The DKS House in Vietnam tackles the challenge of creating a comfortable home on a noisy commercial street. This 200-square-meter townhouse faced issues like traffic noise, dust, and harsh sunlight. The architects responded by separating living and working areas. They placed the living space on the quieter second floor and dedicated the first floor to commercial activities.
To further shield the living area, they employed a large-span structure and double concrete floors to minimize noise and vibrations. Additionally, an elevated natural garden was created on the second floor for a refreshing green buffer zone.
The design also incorporates smart use of nature's elements. A "natural green core" and strategically placed architectural blocks optimize sunlight and airflow. This mastery of the microclimate ensures a comfortable environment for both residents and plants.
Green buffer zones and atriums connect the public commercial space with the private living area, fostering a sense of flow and connection. The facade reflects this separation with a dense layer of greenery filtering dust and harsh light. Inside, a minimalist design with contrasting materials creates a sophisticated and personalized living experience.
Ultimately, the DKS House exemplifies an "introverted house" - a peaceful retreat amidst the urban chaos.
