HOW TO AFFORD YOUR DREAM CAR WHILE WORKING A NORMAL JOB

- When people see the cars I drive, I always get the question "what do you do and how do I get that car?" I'm here to tell you that you don't have to be rich to get your dream car. No this isn't a how to trade stocks video or how to flip houses. I have had some great cars in my life which include a FD3S RX7, a R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R, a Honda S2000, two MKIV Toyota Supra Turbo and currently my R35 Nissan GT-R. Most of which I got while working in restaurants, and not even expensive restaurants, I'm talking Olive Garden and Outback. It was through some techniques that I share in the video and some skills learned along the way that I was able to get my dream cars. I hope this video helps set you on your way to getting your dream car.

I have been a wrench head for years. I started off with building a 69 Camaro, then moved on to Miatas, followed by my first turbo car a 97 Eclipse GSX. After than I moved on to a Honda S2000, then my first MKIV Supra, then a 2010 Camaro, FD RX-7, R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R and my second Supra. I am now the owner of a 2013 Nissan GT-R Black Edition. I love JDM cars and would like to share that enthusiasm with all of you. I will be do car reviews, how to videos and opinions based on personal experience with those legendary JDM tuner cars. I tend to do almost all of the work on the car my self. This comes from a budgetary need as well as a lack of trust of mechanics in general. Working on cars are not has hard as people think, and I hope to show you that you can do it as well, regardless of your experience.

This video made me realize that there's so much money I could be saving if I stopped buying all the little things that I do.
Those are the ones that get you because you don't think about them. You drop $200 on a boost controller you remember it and slow down your spending, but the $10/day you spend at Starbucks you forget. After a week you've spent $70 and after a month $280.

Great point about looking for a rough car. If you interested in using the car as a daily it makes day to day wear and tear less worrying some. Honestly i say this about all new things, i enjoy new and shiny things but there also the fact that i want to keep it that way. When something is already dirty or damaged you feel less bad causing more of it.
100% agree

I agree with this video, my journey started in my 1989 323 gt 5 spd, then 1999 mits eclipse 10th ann edition, then to a 2004 Chevy Malibu, then 1999 preface lift e46 328i sedan sport edition, 2001 330ci (current car for 2 more days, lol) about to buy my dream truck 2002 escalade 6.0V8 yess, and working on cars is a BIG PLUS in saving money! learn it, do it, or forget it!
Awesome. Congrats bro
Anything worth having requires work. I like how it was broken down here. It's alot of discipline and sacrifice. I recently purchased my second car and its an BMW e46 with an M54 engine for my daily. Always loved those I'm thinking working for an f20 in future. I totally agree with learning how to work on your car as I think that just comes naturally from wanting to own something of value, knowing how to maintain and repair it should be a must.
Been learning how to "wrench" on my elantra. Just did rear calipers, rotors, and pads. Trying to save for something that isnt a elamtra. Already saved a ton doing the brakes myself. Now I need to do the steering coupler.
That's awesome. Sounds like you're on your way

The one for patience can be really hard. The advice my dad has given me is this, don’t think about getting a sports car until you have a steady job and a place to live first.
Although part of me agrees with you dad, part of me doesn't. Depending on where you live it can take a lifetime to get a house. Also Depending on your age, you're only young once. Im.not worries about a mid life crisis because I enjoyed my youth. If you're young and have little in the way of responsibilities, why not go for a fun car. You can be all responsible when you're married and have kids. If you wait until then, it will be to late. It's hard to convince the wife you want a dedicated sports car when you need to be able to fit two car seats and have to pay for the children's doctor bills and hobbies.
@@JDArcher you make a great point. My main hold up is i want to finish college before i end up getting my dream sports car.
@@chasealvarez5209 that is always a good plan. But to say that is the only way to do it would by hypocritical of me since I had my Ecliple GSX, S2000 and MKIV Supra when getting my under grad. Then swapped my second MKIV Supra for the R35 GT-R while getting my juris doctorate
@@JDArcher i wouldn’t say it’s the only way to do it especially since i’m older. It would be something i could do if i figure out monthly payments during college. Credit isn’t built currently. I really appreciate your responses as i haven’t had many other views on my dream.
@@chasealvarez5209 ah, I see. I actually managed to get all my cars without a car payment. I'd pick up a car I knew was low on price but rare. Then build it up, sell it for a profit and move onto a better platform. If you're going to float a loan, definately wait until you have a reliable income. Restaurants were great for me in that aspect while still in under grad
Yep keep your job and slowly build up a side hustle. It doesn’t matter how much you make if you pay cash no one can ever take it away from you.
this is exciting! I just got myself a 2020 nissan versa sv. i'm a toyota person but i dropped the gun too fast and this is what i ended up leaving the lot with, lol i'm grateful! all glory to god! i like watching these types of videos! i have videos of my car on my channel too!

@@zoa1011 I currently owe $8k on a car that is worth $4k, (rebuilt title bc a guy didn’t see me and switched lanes, 133k miles, clutch slipping, aftermarket stereo system in which the factory amp is bypassed) I’ve pretty much just gave up on my dreams, I work in a factory and they won’t let me work any overtime, I bust my ass more than anybody there and I’m making the same amount of money that the crackheads make. Also have some credit card debt that I’m slowly taking care of. My insurance is also 245 a month so that doesn’t really help either.

I’m saving for a 350/370z. I’m 18 with $800 to my name. This video made me realize that i have spent way too much money on the little things day by day. I keep all my money in my checking acct instead because I discipline myself and make sure I tell myself I cannot use my money on those little items, when my money is right at my fingertips. It helps trust me
You are 100% on the right track
I was in the same situation. Went through ups and downs, ended up broke again at 21, at 23 now I’m the most financially stable I’ve been in a while and it’s cause I only touch my savings to pay my credit card, which I don’t mind cause I’m building it. Dream car is a cba/dba gtr, I need to pull away and make sure I can afford the payments plus insurance, on that & possibly my 2012 1500 sierra that i need as a man even if it is a personal & not a work truck
taking a lot of things into account. I know I have the finances to afford my dream car. For me it's The MkV Supra with the killer B58. It's a 50-60k car all day long.
I'm a Sr service tech at a quick lube franchise that promotes growth.I get paid decently. I already have the skillset to work on cars(I dd a N54 335i lmfao) so a lot of wrench turning was built as well as from work.
A big thing I noticed is I eat out a lot for lunch. I'm spending about $10 a day on snacks and drinks from the local grocery store. I realized that I should cut that by half and save a good chunk of change. Then I realized I shouldn't spend money on things that aren't bills/payments(those are a must) as well as things that ARENT for my car. If it brings no value to me living or being able to drive my car then it's not needed.
Gonna be doing that from today on out and we'll see the payoff soon.
100% on the right track
Amazing🙏❤️
Thanks
I just told myself to do this year's ago, (before watching vids like this). That if I try to save and never spend a cent on wants, then I can get a bigger want 😆
Yup
This is such an inspiration! Quick question, was the GT-R and Supra financed?
Neither were. I built up to them by buying cars, building them, then selling them for a profit to move up to a better car. I got the second MKIV (the car right before this one) when I sold my R32 GTR
i live in a hotel at 19 right now, i dont have mommy & daddy to lean on. i work at a job but struggle to get there. theres jobs nearby me. so i think im going to try there and attempt to save. its hard because of my living situation but i know i’ll eventually get there.

Why not get a USDM? Be easier

Did you put all your extra money towards your car fund? I can see this working if that's more important than a down payment for a house or retirement savings.
Thinking about taking a loan for a NA Auto Supra, mainly to build credit. Love the car but the cost of parts and the fact I don't live in a garage worries me a bit. And the other fact it's a 90s car
That actually seems like the right reason to get a loan on a supra. As for working on it, it's usually pretty simple and as long as you don't need need Toyota parts
Great video and replies in the comments
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Yeah makes sense to me, you get closer to your car goals through profits of your previous cars, along with having a reliable income to go into said goal. It totally could work except for taking cash out for repairs, but yeah I agree with this video. How much was the gtr btw? Around 50k?
I actually got it for $47.5k and it's a black edition. Hence why I jumped on it even though it wasn't the color I wanted.
@@JDArcher well it's sick either way, was there a website that you got this from?
@@guzzlinggusher7066 i found this one on craigs list through search tempest
But what about insurance cost and the cost of replacement parts? how are those looking? I used to be a tire tech and did a tire change for a GT-R owner. Those low profiles aren't easy to change. I was not able to see how much that person paid for, for all four tires since the sales team handles all the billing. I bet it was costly.
I picked up a set of 4 Michellin PS4 for about $1600. If you want to know about cost of maintenance and insurance I did a video on that as well.
I drive a 2011 cts-v coupe 6 manual black on black on black and I paid $725 a month till I owned it. Great feeling. Edit, I got tired of a monthly payment so I starting paying weekly $169....till it was paid for.
Nice, that works also
Getting my CDL, going to put in serious OT. Fix up my daily Ford ZX2, maybe buy a 16’ MX-5 this next year and trade up as it financially becomes feasible. I want a Alpha Romeo 4C within the next 2-3 years, and a GTR after that when I’m 30.
Nice plan. Keeps focused and you will do ir
I think it’s funny when you very hesitantly said Miata 😂
I expected to get more connects about selling a 69 Camaro for a miata
Like many others here I need to live a more frugal life. It's hard when you have so many hobbies and like quality products that actually last. Sure I can save money by shopping at thrifts and mcdonalds exclusively but the clothes/shoes won't last long and it's not healthy. There's a nice balance in the middle there I need to reach.
Sure. This is mainly going to extra luxuries like getting a Starbucks coffee everyday versus saving for a dream car
I hope one day I will get my dream car I even have the hot wheels version of it. It's a 2008 red Honda S2000
Definately an attainable goal. Keep focused and it can happen
I think your GTR used to be owned by cars across Texas? But love the vid
I know it was a Texas car at some point, but it was owned by a doctor
Putting in the work to live less for temporary to make it happen. 3-4 years with intense saving per paycheck break down is the goal. Like a good diet, I’ve had to cut the serious fat from my expenses.
Perfect. Sound like you're on the right path
So do you cash out on the car when you save or do you save for the down payment because my dream car is like 40000$
I've bought all my last 5 car straight up. Basically try to save knowing the value of your creebt car and when saving and current car puts you wothing striking range of the car you want you start looking to move you current car

Awesome. Thank you and welcome
And the GT-R is my EndGame either the R35 or R34
