The Bowler hats: The drummer is Jason Bonham, the son of LZ Late drummer John "Bonzo" Bonham who was known for wearing that style hat, so it was a tribute to him. When Bonzo passed, LZ didn't feel that he could be replaced and they ended the group. The lead singer, Robert Plant and Bonzo were very close friends and Robert was the godfather of Jason Bonham. Jason was wearing his fathers' Bowler hat and playing on his dad's drum kit, while the Choir also wore the hats in memory of Bonzo, that is one of the reasons why Robert was brought to tears.
Robert is Jason’s godfather, Robert & John were friends since about the age of 14, & played in at least 2 other bands together. I think Robert was thinking John should be there, watching his son play in a tribute to them. The best cover of this song ever.

They did such an awe-inspiring tribute to Led Zeppelin, it even brought them to tears. All the guys were there except John Bonham, the drummer, who passed away many years ago. As others have stated, Robert Plantvand John were best friends from their early teens, and Robert was Godfather to John's son, Jason. They had asked Jason to join them at the Kennedy Center since it was his father he would be there for, but Jason told them he was already committed to something else. Yeah, the shock on their faces to see that the "something else" was playing his father's drum set wearing his father's bowler hat and paying tribute to them, with Heart. John wore that hat when he played, so Jason wore John's hat, and the choir paid tribute to John by all of them wearing a bowler. The best tribute ever. The guys did look fragile, especially Robert. But nobody deserved that tribute and honors more than they did. I hope Heart gets a tribute, too, as they so deserve one. Thank you, Saeed, for watching them back to back. It put things in perspective in regard to age, time, and memories. Much love to you and your family ❤️ 🫂.
I think Robert is indestructible! At 76 he's still out there,, still got the voice, still touring. Jimmy at 80 leads a quieter life but is still playing.

This performance and Adam Lambert's rendition of Cher's disco song, Believe, at her Kennedy Center Honors event are the two most outstanding performances I've ever seen. Both brought tears to the eyes of the original artists.
Jason Bonham was also the drummer for Jimmy Page for Jimmy’s solo tour of his album Outrider in 1988. He was also the drummer for the “Zeppelin” reunion concert in 2007 called Celebration Day. A fantastic two-hour set, btw, with all of them in top top form.
Hey Saeed! I couldn't listen to this one for a long, long time, when I finally did, I was shocked at how good it was! Seeing Robert Plant almost in tears made it even better! Absolutely love your intelligent reactions and your creative skills and instincts that enhance them. Keep this fire burning, brother.
Heart and Led Zeppelin knew each other from the early 70s, when Heart was an LZ cover band. LZ was so impressed that they gave Heart a lifetime permission to play their music, something they gave to very few musicians.
Heart was never "a LZ cover band" - they did their own music - and, like most other bands, occasionally played someone else's hit just out of respect and love of the music.
That's inaccurate. Jimmy Page did give Heart his blessing to cover their catalog, but it was in 2014 when they toured with Jason Bonham and did a Zeppelin set. Ann and Nancy didn't meet Robert Plant until 1982, although he did walk in to one of their early club performances ironically when they were playing Stairway.
I grew up in this era, in a suburb of Seattle. Heart was our local band (I'm a year older than Ann). Imagine hearing them in 1967 (the year I graduated from high school). What I love about this tribute is the validation of what geniuses rock musicians really were, and the lasting legacy of this song that the original writers/performers get to witness. They are so valued during their lifetime. I also loved it that John Bonham's son was there to play drums and connect with his dad in that way. I always burst into tears watching this.
Saeed, I see you went from the greatest solo performer on the Planet, possibly ever with the incredible Miss Lucy Thomas, to Heart and their backing band plus orchestra putting out an incredible masterpiece as a tribute to the greatest band ever, Led Zeppelin! Shocking surprise that both Lucy Thomas and the members of Led Zeppelin are ALL from England, where the top of the list performers have hailed from there!

Robert Plant is one year older than me. When I first saw Zeppelin live I was 19 and Robert was 20. You can only imagine the emotion I feel when I see this!!! Many, many years have passed since I was at that concert. Incredible and can't be described. Only experienced.

Robert Plant has said that he hates it when people cover this song, because they always F it up. But he was obviously impressed with Heart's performance and told them so at the after-party. Also, Dave Grohl sat in for Jason Bonham for the rehearsal to keep his appearance a surprise. Plant wanted him to sit with them in the Honor Section, but he made up an excuse that he had other commitments.
Robert Plant had a successful solo career, and still tours today…mainly with his folk group, Saving Grace, and also with collaborator Alison Krauss, with whom he has done two albums of Americana music.
Saw this notice pop up while commenting on your reaction to the original Led Zepp song! Great idea to react to them back to back! This performance is the only worthy cover this iconic song and it can still, after twelve years, bring tears to my eyes. The original never did that. The original gives you pause, makes you think and contemplate, but never brought tears. Watching Jimmy, Robert and John's reactions is what gets me every time. Their initial trepidation followed by their interest, awe, then joy as the performance progressed. Ann's vocals, Nancy's guitar, the surprise and shock of seeing Jason on his dads drum kit and then all the bowler hats.....honored the music and brought fun memories to what could've otherwise been a somber event. Great reaction, thanks for the memories.
I'm the same. I usually don't like the covers as much as the originals or even when the same artists play it later and it sounds different than the studio recording. It still might be a great song and sound good, but it doesn't sound right. This sounds great, a pleasure to hear and watch, plus I love Heart. I put it on a different scale and thing it is worth hearing. :) I've watched this video many times now and still appreciate it. All the people involved should feel proud of accomplishing such a large project.
This is such an amazing rendition and fitting tribute to one of the greatest bands ever. There is a longer version of this song that shows the introduction of the band as they appear on stage. During this intro, Jason Bonham is introduced as playing drums and you can see the surprised reaction of Robert Plant. The story behind this is that when told about receiving this Kennedy Honor, Robert had called and ask if he would be available to play drums in place of his father. Jason responded that he was honored to be asked, but unfortunately had a previous engagement. This was the "previous engagement"! He had already been asked and had accepted the honor of playing in his father's place, which is why Robert was so surprised and pleased. I love that part of this amazing moment in time. Thanks for the reaction and keep doing what you do.
The guitarist doing the electric guitar solo is Shane Fontayne, who went out on the road with the “Other Band” when Bruce had put the E Street Band on the shelf.
Guitar solo by Shane Fontayne, formerly of Lone Justice. That band was fronted by the great Maria McKee and both LJ and Maria solo are worth checking out. There's a live version of Maria solo doing a song called Breathe on a late night TV show hosted by saxophonist David Sanborn. It's remarkable. The song is so dramatic and her performance so emotional. I remember seeing her do it live in a club and the tension it created was almost overwhelming. At the end of the song, she turned her back on the audience, stepped to the back of the stage and sort of shuddered and shook herself out.
Yes, amazing tribute. "Heart" performing this great "Led Zeppelin" song along with an excellent choir and two fantastic guitars, what else could I ask for?. I'll think about it 🤔😊. Nice reaction 👌, see you next time 👏👋
Imagine writing and recording an amazing songs and then seeing it performed and being like, “holy cow! we wrote this??!” That’s how this felt to me. Ann and Nancy are royalty. Heart is worth the long trip down a fantastic rabbit hole. I saw Zeppelin in 1977.
Jason Bonham has played with Led Zeplin a couple of times in live performance's, Kashmier is my fave that he played on cannot remember the year but worth the look up and watch.
I love this, but I can't watch it without tearing up especially watching the faces of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. This was so damn good, and Ann and Nancy Wilson were amazing. As well as the rest of the band/ orchestra /choir and topping it off with John Bonham's son Jason on drums!
This arrangement shows how singers, musicians, an orchestra and a chorus can transform a song into a wonderful spectacle but still stay true to the original. If you liked this style you should also react to Adam Lamberts’ version of “Believe”, performed at a Kennedy Center Honors’ tribute to Cher where he covers her iconic hit song. It’s a tour de force performance.
Ann has a way of touching your heart or reaching in and ripping it right out of you! Lol They grew big zeppelin fans and before they hit stardom heart did a lot of zeppelin covers. ❤
Bonnie Raitt had a gig there, too… She was one of the people playing in the tribute to Blues legend Buddy Guy…Who was sitting halfway between Zep , & the Obamas
There is a little longer version of this video which includes the introduction of Jason Bonham, John Bonham's son. The interaction between him and the members of Led Zeppelin is cool to watch. I think this version also has a few edits out of the song itself.
@@obiwanbenobi4943unfortunately, the version with Jason’s introduction is shorter. Verses of the song have been edited out. I wish there was one complete performance of this.
@@SaeedReacts.Any available Led Zeppelin's live version on Stairway to Heaven is must to see, hear and feel !!! Each of LZ are genuine virtuouse!!! Anyway, welcome to the Led Zeppelin's musical and lyrical "rabitt's hole"😏
Oh Saeed...just to let you know, this is the BEST reaction to this song I have heard, been back multiple times, (more than I remember!!!), just to hear it again, WELLDONE !!! Will be back many more...thanks❤
HOORAY!!! THANK YOU for reacting to the full wonderful performance!! …I’m also SO VERY HAPPY and GRATEFUL that Anne Wilson recently - SUCCESSFULLY - completed her cancer treatments, and is on the road to recovery! (I was so upset when first hearing about her diagnosis this summer, because the poor timing fell right on the heels of my best friend having suddenly passed away of cancer with only a couple weeks’ notice… So of course I thought “oh no, NOT Anne, too!”) 🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰
This edit missed the introduction of Jason Bonham on the drums. Robert, his godfather and close friend, had invited him to come as his guest and Jason didn't tell him he would be playing, just said thanks but I've got another gig that night. He even hid when the band came backstage before the show. The moment when Jason was introduced, Robert leaps to his feet in delight as he realises he's been fooled! A great moment. Robert has said that it was only this occasion that made him understand why the song meant so much to millions - previously he had come to despise Stairway as an early work with too much Tolkien-style imagery and effects that were just too easy. Hearing the song performed with such passion and mastery brought home to him what a masterpiece he and Jimmy had written. I don't think Robert has ever felt that the end of his career is near. At 76 he's still touring in yet another great collab, after the massive success of his collaboration with Alison Krauss, which meant he had to learn a whole new genre (bluegrass) as well as the fun of collecting possible songs for the albums and arranging them with Alison and legendary producer T Bone Burnett. In an archive interview with the three men, Robert was still the one with all the nervous energy, while John Paul Jones revealed a great ability with hilarious one-liners. Worth watching to see how three rock gods have turned into affable elderly English gentlemen, while still keeping some fire in their bellies.
For the record, literally, Heart record Rock and Roll from Led Zeppelin, which is on their Heart Greatest Hits/Live album. During their Desire Walks On tour on 94,I saw them so The Battle of Evermore on stage. They are huge Zeppelin fans and will play their sins whenever they can. So I know this was a thrill for them. This would be every Zeppelin fans dream
Rock Royaly playing for Rock Gods, an amazing performance: Ann Wilson is simply one of the greatest rock voices of the world. I've seen this a lot and it still makes me emotional! The drummer is the son of Led Zep's drummer.
Shout out to Shane Fontain (Michael Barakan) for doing the solo under that sort of pressure 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸 Ann just said that she is well enough now after her chemo to get back out on the road for 2025
The story goes that LZ asked Jason Bonham to play at this Tribute, but he said that he couldn't as he had a previous booking. hence their pleasant surprise when he appeared on stage.
Wow. My first time hearing about Anne's cancer. I guess I've been living under a rock lately. Prayers for her full recovery. And nice reaction by the way. You always seem to know how not to overdo it.
I saw an interview with Ann, who was recovering from the flu during this performance, and the conversation with the band after and her sis before. Great behind the scenes info. This performance makes me cry every time! Between Robert tearing up and Jason looking up at the end, gets me every time!

The tears in Plant’s eyes are for everything you spoke on. Also the guys were surprised to see Jason Bonham there. They had invited him to sit with them for the honour. He turned them down, stating he had a prior engagement. Knowing all along he was going to be performing
Honestly...this performance...it just takes your breath away...the drummer was the late drummer John Bonham's son, Jason...the bowler hat was something John always wore...

The drummer here, Jason Bonham, is the son of John Bonham and the god-son of Robert Plant. He is a highly successful drummer in his own right, having a Zeppelin Tribute band (excellent btw), and right now he is Sammy Haggar’s ( former vocalist for Van Halen). bands drummer. Also in a hard rock super-group called Black Country Communion, with Glenn Hughes ( formerly of Deep Purple) and Joe Bonamassa, one of the top blues and blues rock guitarists in the world today
Congratulations on finding the full version, most react to the edited version. The full version has Ann's vocal's higher in the mix, so you can appreciate how great she is, as always. You can hear the rawness in her voice in the last verse as she pushes, so great. The edited version also obviously has "edits", which seems almost sacrilegious to us old fart Zep heads. The guitar solo is chopped up in the edited version; here it's complete (I think?), as it should be since it is so so iconic. The full version also has more people watching moments, like Bonnie Raitt etc, that's fun to see iconic artists appreciating this (Sheila E, Yo Yo Ma, ...). If/when you see Zeppelin live versions, they don't sound like this. Zep was kind of a jam band live, and never used other musicians live, so it was always 4 people, lots of improvisation, some mistakes and some inimitable brilliance.
So glad this link was sent to me. When i was making the thumbnail I saw there was a shorter version and i smiled, cause it has happened in the past with other video's i had an edited version. Thanks for taking the time to share some info and your thoughts on this performance. Much appreciated.
In the US, the intro of STH (recorded nearly 50 years ago) is jokingly banned in guitar stores as “the forbidden riff” (bc it’s usually the first thing customers strum when they tryout a guitar). Heart’s performance blew them away, Plant & Page. It was like they were hearing it for the first time. What a legendary performance by the legendary Wilson sisters.

Thanks so much for checking it out with me. That means a lot ❤️
Thank you for doing the full version!
Thanks so much for watching !
ANN, NANCY, rocked this tribute along with all
This is such an amazing rendition and fitting tribute to one of the greatest bands ever.
Will look up that video. That is an awesome suprise!
Thanks for watching!
The guitarist doing the electric guitar solo is Shane Fontayne, who went out on the road with the “Other Band” when Bruce had put the E Street Band on the shelf.
Stairway Xs 2 today... Ambitious...lol
Keep it rockin' Now 🎶✌️☮️🕊️🇺🇸
An AMAZING performance!...........for some reason I can't help but to get teary eyed no matter how many times I've seen this (probably 100+).......
@riksplace Me too.
The guitarist was Shane Fontayne, who's played with Bruce Springsteen among others.
I hadn't seen this before. It's 🔥💯
After hearing the album version 12,982 times, this performance got to me a little bit. 🙏🎶🩵✌️🕊️☮️🇺🇸
Such an incredible tribute! Thanks for checking it out with me.
This tribute is amazing, I'm glad you did the reaction. Big kiss. Ana
Probably the greatest cover/tribute ever.
This was a phenomenal tribute! Absolutely amazing!! I love Heart and I love Led Zeppelin and I just loved this performance!! Thanks Saeed!!
Truly incredible performance of this iconic song. Thanks for watching.
This is my favorite version, it has parts of rehersal that got cut from live show
Lol...audience...Yo Yo Ma...Stephen Colbert...Jimmy Kimmel...Bonnie Raitt...Debbie Allen...Oh yeah, The Obamas...many more, all that I recognized
Jason Bonham, Jon's son on drums! Robert Plant is his godfather! It was a surprise, he told them he couldn't make it!
Ooooh! That is a cool surprise!
@@SaeedReacts. He said he couldn't sit with them all cause he had another event...then he appeared on stage!
Bowler hat was the signature of his dad, Jon Bonham, considered the greatest rock drummer ever.
Yes, amazing tribute. "Heart" performing this great "Led Zeppelin" song along with an excellent choir and two fantastic guitars, what else could I ask for?. I'll think about it 🤔😊. Nice reaction 👌, see you next time 👏👋
This is truly magnificent! Thanks for watching!
U doing this right after doing the original is perfect!!!! U a step above the rest. Super smart!!!!
It was a great day checking these out back to back! Thanks for watching.
I love that song. Must check out that performance at some point.
Ann has a way of touching your heart or reaching in and ripping it right out of you! Lol
They grew big zeppelin fans and before they hit stardom heart did a lot of zeppelin covers. ❤
Bonnie Raitt had a gig there, too… She was one of the people playing in the tribute to Blues legend Buddy Guy…Who was sitting halfway between Zep , & the Obamas
Heart took them to church here! ❤
The guitarist, Shayne Fontayne was married to troubled actress Mackenzie Phillips (daughter of John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas) for 14 years.
There is a little longer version of this video which includes the introduction of Jason Bonham, John Bonham's son. The interaction between him and the members of Led Zeppelin is cool to watch. I think this version also has a few edits out of the song itself.
Yes, I always wonder about that when I see someone reacting to it. "Are they going to have the right version...?" Often it is no... :(
@@obiwanbenobi4943unfortunately, the version with Jason’s introduction is shorter. Verses of the song have been edited out. I wish there was one complete performance of this.
Moment when Jason, John Bonham's son look up is priceless! Amazing tribute to LZ! Thank you so much for this reaction! ❤
Such a great performance. Definitely one i will watch a few times. Thanks for watching.
Love how you did these reactions brother. Back to back with the original and the tribute. Only you could be so cool!😎
Thanks so much for this one, Alan! Appreciate you!
(I was so upset when first hearing about her diagnosis this summer, because the poor timing fell right on the heels of my best friend having suddenly passed away of cancer with only a couple weeks’ notice… So of course I thought “oh no, NOT Anne, too!”)
🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰
That is great to hear! Hope she makes a full recovery.
I'm loving your channel. Great reactions
Thank so much!
I’m so glad that you reacted to this. I love everything about this performance - and everything about your reaction.
Incredible performance! Glad i finally got to it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for taking the time to share this. Learned a few new things. Definitely want to learn more about them and their music.
This would be every Zeppelin fans dream
robert plant is still recording, most notably with bluegrass icon allison krauss. it would be good if you were to dive into their work.
Rock Royaly playing for Rock Gods, an amazing performance: Ann Wilson is simply one of the greatest rock voices of the world. I've seen this a lot and it still makes me emotional! The drummer is the son of Led Zep's drummer.
What a performance. Definitely one i will be revisiting from time to time.
Thanks for watching and letting me know about the drummer.
Great rendition. Love this music!
Extraordinary!!!!
Shout out to Shane Fontain (Michael Barakan) for doing the solo under that sort of pressure 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸
Ann just said that she is well enough now after her chemo to get back out on the road for 2025
I would cave and crumble! 😅
Glad to hear that!
I saw this on the Kennedy Center Honors when it aired on TV. Wow!
Nancy is great on guitar here also. Ann’s voice is supreme as always. ❤
The story goes that LZ asked Jason Bonham to play at this Tribute, but he said that he couldn't as he had a previous booking. hence their pleasant surprise when he appeared on stage.
That is an awesome surprise!
❤❤👏👏👏❤❤ What more can I say. 😊❤Stay safe
Heart did more than justice to Led Zepplin's iconic song. You can the looks on their faces. It says it all! Love your reaction!
They definitely did! Thanks for watching!
Wow. My first time hearing about Anne's cancer. I guess I've been living under a rock lately. Prayers for her full recovery. And nice reaction by the way. You always seem to know how not to overdo it.
Hope she makes a full recovery.
Thanks so much for watching!
She has announced a tour next year. ❤
Fantastic performance! Thanks Saeed
Amazing! Thanks for watching.
Legendary ❤ 🔥
I saw an interview with Ann, who was recovering from the flu during this performance, and the conversation with the band after and her sis before. Great behind the scenes info. This performance makes me cry every time! Between Robert tearing up and Jason looking up at the end, gets me every time!
Will look up that video. Incredible performance. Thanks for watching
One of the greatest tributes ever done. I will leave you one more that is a super fabulous performance as well as another son who plays tribute to his father. "My Hero" - "The Foo Fighters" with Shayne Hawkins filling in for his late father. It is well worth it!
Love Heart Ann &Nancy best Love Led Zeppelin to
Glad you seen & heard this performance, on a side note, the entire night honoring Leppelin is a must watch (esp. Lenny Kravitz)
Amazing performance. Definitely interested in checking out more from this night.
@@SaeedReacts. not sure if you've listened to Robbie Williams! I never took much notice untill I watched/listened to his 'Live at Knebworth' concert. simply WOW........ his voice sounds so different, REAL,EMOTION & what a entertainer. God bless him (never judge a book by its cover is what I learnt)
ps. love your reaction's brother... (from Syd Australia)
If you haven't already, look at Adam Lambert doing Cher's rendition of BELIEVE at the Kennedy Center ♥ Thank you as always for the amazing reactions Saeed!
I have not yet, but have heard great things about it. Thanks for watching and the recommendation.
It was also a surprise to everyone that Jason Bonham was going to play the drums. During practices Dave Grohl played the drums!!!🎵🎼🎶🤘🤘🤘🥁🎙🎸🎹🎤🎧🔥🔥🔥
@@marcieharreld286 keep in mind...they only had 2 practices with Heart in attendance...Robert Plant actually called and invited Jason to attend, not knowing Jason was already going to be there as the drummer...Jason said he informed Robert he already had obligations, and would not be able to attend...soooo...Robert was shocked and pleasantly to see Jason there at the beginning of the performance...

WOW!!! I have no words. Amazing performance!
what a great version!!
Kennedy Center Tributes in DC. Led Zep was sitting right there. ❤
SHE KILLED IT!!
9:11 make me chills 💗
In the US, the intro of STH (recorded nearly 50 years ago) is jokingly banned in guitar stores as “the forbidden riff” (bc it’s usually the first thing customers strum when they tryout a guitar). Heart’s performance blew them away, Plant & Page. It was like they were hearing it for the first time. What a legendary performance by the legendary Wilson sisters.
That is hilarious! I would have been one of those people thinking i was impressing someone :D
