I actually used this video to get to the airport last time I was in Bangkok, I had to just go to buy a ticket and then go back to my hotel in Asok and didn't want to waste money on a cab Thanks a lot Peter and Mali.
Not long got back from my third time in Thailand, twice in Pattaya. Did this run about 4 weeks ago for the first time, exactly what you did. Went to Bangkok and stopped in Nana on your say Peter. Soi 4, the Plaza, soi5 and the Cowboy were worth a visit. Then got the train down to Hua Hin again on your say, yep cool quiet town, the girls are there but not many guys. Planned on getting a ferry to Pattaya but there isn't one at the moment. Pattaya was quiet more girls than guys. Anyone who visits Thailand really should visit Bangkok for a couple of days at least, hustle and bustle. Really enjoy your content it helped me plan my holiday. 52yr old from the Black country UK.
Great informative video Peter and Mali I always wondered how to take the train it looks pretty easy , maybe I’ll try it next time . Love the bloopers Marli is an asset to the channel
I would have changed at Makkasan and gotten on MRT to Sukhumvit. Faster and cheaper. But there's still that long walk between Makkasan and Petchaburi stations.
Adding Mali is a stroke of genius, sir! Quite the delightful and fun personality while doing a good job. Definitely could easily take that rail trip to my old digs, just a couple more stops down the line to Thong Lor (or maybe the one before).
Hi Peter, I love these types of videos so much, I will once again be taking this same train ride on the 28th Oct this year. I cant wait. PS Thanks to Mali for being such a great guide.
Thats always been my routine - out the airport and get my SIM card then down to the rail link, have a green tea at the little drinks cafe and then change ££s at one of the booths. Train to Phaya Thai and then short walk to the BTS. Cost to Phaya Thai in March was still the same as on my first visit in 2012 😊. Great video and I’m sure many will find it useful.
Traveling to Thailand, I suggest to use Airport Rail Link (City Line) from the airport to downtown. It's a quick under 30 minutes, and the ticket price tops at just 45 baht.
It may be a little quicker but it seemed more of a hassle. I did the route you suggest last December. It is a short hike to the MRT station after you get off the ARL. MRT Terminal was crowded, several flights of stairs, etc. I ultimately made it to Terminal 21 with no problems. It seems to me going to Playa Thai station and jumping on the BTS is easier, although it might take an extra 10 minutes to get to your destination. Both ways will get you there.
Never got a cab into central Bangkok, i've always used the Skytrain & Airport Link. Back in March i took a cab from Pattaya to Suvarnabhumi and then the Airport Link, still quicker than the cab fighting it's way to the Asia Hotel! You can even get the State Railway of Thailand train to Hua Lampong if staying near there, Airport Link one stop to Lat Krabang and the main line is downstairs, and the SRT fare is only 6 Bhat! At the right time of day (around 07.20ish) you can get a main line train to Pattaya for 31 Bhat as well.......
Yes, but the problem is that SRT trains do not go so often. Used to live close to Khlongtan station, but taking the train always needed planning ahead, unlike ARL/BTS/MRT.
I didn't think to mention that basically the City Link hotel from the airport to the BTS station is about 10 to 15 minutes and then the BTS is about the same so it's about 30 minutes to get in maybe less but definitely not more
I enjoyed your video. Mali is good fun. Would love to see her more often. I normally taxi from the Airport to the City. Maybe next time (when it comes) I will try MRT from the Airport. Thanks again! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Pete and Mali. The SuperRich at Phaya Thai was a good shout. The line at the airport can be a bit brutal at times, with 10 flight loads of tourists all wanting to get some Baht!
Excellently done. Last time I was exchanging money at the airport all the bureau de exchange adjacent to Super rich had the same rates but this might of changed judging by the queues. Look forward to Dong Wang airport video
I have had the same experience about 6 months ago, all rates were exactly the same. So I went to Kasikorn because there was no one there, whilst 10-15 people stood in line in front of Super Rich. I was surprised about that, but obviously didn't mind at all.
I arrived early June 2023 and exchanged US$ at the basement level. SuperRich & Happy Rich had the same rate, whereas the green Kasikorn Bank booth was slightly worse by 0.06 Baht. I then took the ARL to the end at Phaya Thai station and the SuperRich booth there was actually better than the airport location (34.66 Baht compared to 34.55).
I find it amusing that people get off a plane tired, wait 30 minutes to get their bag, and then wait in a long queue to Super Rich to save 100 baht. Then another to buy a SIMM. Whilst waiting for your bag, exchange money and but a SIMM. No hassle, no queues.
Hiya, came across your video. Quick question, while looking at the transport map you showed. How comes you didn't take the Airport link to Makkasan to change instead? Is the MRT not linked to the BTS? Thanks.
Yes, it looks to be faster to go to Makkasan and take one stop MRT. But... you have to walk from ARL to MRT quite a long way. So it is easier to go via Phaya Thai. And by the way, in my opinion that station Makkasan is the most confusing named station in Bangkok. On the ARL it is "Makkasan", on the MRT it is "Phetchaburi", on the Khlong boat it is "Asok" (while BTS "Asok" is MRT "Sukhumvit" and one stop further south), and on SRT it is Asok while "Makkasan" is one stop further to the west.
I have travelled via Makkasan, change to MRT and then on to Sukhumvit often, but it is a hassle with luggage as there is a long walk and changes of levels, and queing for tickets.
That was very good, coming to Bankok next week, never even thought about train...Can you tell me please, when that was built, first time I came to Bangkok was 2015.....And Loved the Bloopers....
Great info again Peter, for newbys and past travelers that need a refresher…and agree about Super rich, great for some instant cash on arrival and my go to cash booth… I’m sure she gave you a kiss on the cheek at 11.15 in the bloopers 🙃 😝 Great relationship, collaboration mate 👍
I did this once in 2019 just for the experience - I was able to buy a ticket from the machine from Suvarnabhumi to Asok, I didn’t have to buy a second ticket at Phaya Thai…. Good video though, I think (as you said) a decent alternative with just a backpack but I wouldn’t recommend with a suitcase if you have to walk a bit when arriving at Asok.
How that is possible? The ARL and BTS are two different systems with different pricing and more important: The ARL gives you tokens, but the BTS gives you cards. Not possible what you are writing.
@@JamesColemanChess But how you get out in Makkasan without using your token? And you have to buy a new ticket (token) for the MRT to go from Phetcahburi one stop to Sukhumvit (which is the MRT name for Asok BTS).
From Don Meaung, I get the A2 bus to Mor Chit BTS station for 30 B, and from Mor Chit to Nana station, it's 44 B. Total = 74 B. So cheap! It's great for those traveling light.
True super rich is the best but when I'm at the airport I just exchange $300 or so so I'll lose a few bucks no biggie, then go to a good place later. Thank you for this video I hate the taxis on the 4th floor. They know 500 baht is suffice but they won't take it.
I've seen the airport rail speed past my taxi, leaving the airport. Looks like it drops you off near Victory Mall. Great alternative if you're staying west of Sukhumvit. I may try that out. Is Super Rich in the airport as cheap as Super Rich in the city?
I think the rate is the same in all SuperRich outlets. The rail link is good but you need to change onto the BTS which will take you to most places in Bangkok.
Afternoon Peter, good to let the people know where to get the best rate whilst in the airport. i have been using them for years from a video off you tuber KEY FRAME 5 . the pound is rising daily now in the right direction for a change.

You can come in on 30 days on arrival and extend for another 30 days but if you apply to the Thai Embassy in your country you can get 60 days and extend that for 30 days in Thailand giving you a total of 90 days

I don't agree because 7/11 don't sell fast internet! I have purchased from 7/11 in the past and the maximum speed you can get is 50MBs whereas the airport packages are much faster, up to 1,000MBs! Why not get off at Makkasan and change to MRT at MRT Petchaburi, just one stop from Sukhumvit MRT (Asoke). Much faster.
We decided not to do that because you can't see a lot of the city when you're Underground
