My son told me this and I thought of you: “You can’t plant flowers if you haven’t botany.” 😄

I would have to agree with you. A garden should be beautiful and functional. If time is spent in the garden it must be visually appealing.

I seriously LOVE gardening with my 2 year old! While things do take a bit longer, and sometimes a pot or two are dropped on the ground, I love it! she gets so happy to play in the soil. and I love that she says words like "soil" or "flower" and just yesterday she saw a cell that didnt germinate and she said "oh no mommy, no plant!!!" hahahahaa

I don't plant things like tomatoes and peppers in 5x5s. I use deeper containers and don't up-pot. I did the whole up-potting ONCE and decided never again. I'll find the space for everything lol. It's one of the shortcuts I take BECAUSE I have a toddler who LOVES to help lol I do adore the colors and think these 5x5's would be a fun splurge lol

Ooh strawberry containers from the store, mushroom containers, and the plastic salad mix containers all make great things to start seeds in as well. 🙂

I didn't like the tedious plucking out and transplanting them into cell trays, so I'd always jist plant into cell trays, but now that I'm growing for production & selling veggies & cutflowers, the space saving is very helpful! & I like that I can dill up an entire cell tray, have a full cell tray, without having to waste a bunch of seeds, planting multiple seeds per cell...

I am using a couple of the aluminum casserole pans this year. Mostly because it came with a clear top to use as a humidity top. I used the plastic cells & set them inside the pan. The pan actually works as a drip pan to water from the bottom. So far, so good.

June is the cutest!! Her little "uh oh" warmed my heart. So stinkin cute! I think those trays would be excellent for micro greens, like you said. I ended up making a silly buying purchase. I accidentally bought a bunch of 10x20 trays from a local nursery (b/c they were relatively inexpensive). But I didn't realize they had holes in bottom until I got home. 🤦🏽‍♀️ To fix my blunder I lined them with tin foil, which helped me in 2 ways. It kept the water in so I could bottom water, and it kept in the heat because my seed starting area is a little colder than the house temp. Win/win!

P touch tag printers work well. They stick right on your container.

I think onion and leeks would be fun to start in those trays. It would make it easier to separate them once they are ready to go in the ground vs old school seed trays.

I like the way Jess does the thick sow.. Then separate.. I've been doing that for a couple yrs now.. And it works great in my opinion

Your notes are better than mine... I don't even take any even though I am sure I should! I needed more paste tomatoes this year than anything else so that's what I planted for me but I have close to 200 Better Boy planted for my dad because that's all he grows.

Did you make an update video on how you liked using these 5x5s for seed starting? I'm about to place my first bootstrap farmer order and am interested in getting these

I use the styrofoam meat trays that I get from the grocery store. I've seen them used on another channel as well. I don't see the need to spend money when I don't have to. I would rather spend my money on seeds and/or flower bulbs.

You are just a delight to watch and listen to! I am new to this space and curious why I see people growing so much but only using seeds packets instead of buying in bulk. I would assume it would be better financially to buy by the pound than packet but maybe I'm missing something since so many people have packets? Also, a seed swap sounds so lovely! Thanks for your video! - Autumn
