You should moisten the soil before you put your plant in the pot, that dry soil will dry the roots out while waiting to be watered. It will also settle making the need to add soil afterwards causing another step. When moist it makes the soil easier to manage, I.e. making the finger hole, dirt doesn’t fall back in on its self. I admire your work ethic and use of time thanks for your videos.

One of the things I have learned this year is just how hardy plants and seedlings are. Earlier in the year I had a couple of small chard starts I put in a garden, only to find the next morning that the wild pigs had rooted in my garden and dug them up. I just took the seedlings that were laying on the ground and stuck them back in the ground. They have bounced back wonderfully! I’ve also separated small tomato plants into 3 different pots, and after a few days they all started to thrive.

I recently discovered greenhouse megastore also, and absolutely love their trays and pots! I’m not in a place right now where i can order the bootstrap trays, so i know i took a chance spending $100 on stuff from GH MS but i am really impressed!

Thanks for sharing. Great info as always!
I live in zone 6. This year, I did something different- I started my tomato and pepper seeds (all seeds) outside in solo cups and keep the cups moist in trays without holes. I filled the trays with water - 1”. After several days, they all sprouted.
Then I separated the young plants into 6packs. When they got stronger, I up potted them in solo cups and buried them deep. By mid May, I have some plants to plant and some plants to give away (in solo cups).
From now on, I’ll do that instead of heat mat and started indoor under grow light, then acclimate … way too much work and stress. Nothing is wrong with starting outside just a couple weeks later than normal.
The key is to keep the young plants moist at all times. Also, add water soluble fertilizer 1/2 strength.

Great video love finding out how others do their transplanting. Everyone has their own system in the end as long as it works. I have saved time counting pot by knowing that when you open a case, the pots are packed in rows, one row has twenty-five pots. Another trick that helps the seedlings, is transplant into already damp soil when you go to water them after transplanting the water wick to the roots where needed fasterand on hot days they won't wilt down and stress. Big time saver for me was instead of filling one pot at a time with soil I put pots in the tray and dump soil on the tray level the soil and all the pots are filled in an instant. Happy planting

It's interesting you detailed the starting mix v. potting mix in this video at this time. I have been starting my own seeds for almost 10 years and this is the first season I'm seeing a ton of issues with my standard seed starting mix (organic Jiffy). It has worked beautifully until this year and for some reason everything I've started seems to be less than stellar. It's the first time I've ever had this happen. Next year I will try something different. Gardening evolves and changes constantly, and to think it has to always be the same is limiting yourself. We are all free to garden how we want and it's important to harness changes. We don't grow as gardeners if we're resistant to change.

Great question that we get alot. One of the benefits of up-potting is giving the plant start new fresh soil with more nutrients. The biggest advantage is to make sure the plant starts don't get root bound in your container which can actually stunt the plant when you transfer it into the soil. It makes for overall stronger/healthier plants. The up-potting process specifically benefits tomatoes and peppers. Hope this helps

Why don’t you check into a plant tag marker. I know it runs through the computer and I think it prints them out right onto your tags. It’s possible that someone else at the farmers market would pay you to make their tags or go in with you to purchase the plant tag marker. I’m sure if you checked some of the places where you buy your supplies they will have them. Good luck with your plant sales.
I just looked online and it is called a label printer. Without going through all the paperwork I could not get a price.

Girl, it's 2021, you don't have to hand write all of those labels. Lol
If you have a cricut vinyl cutter, you could make little decals to stick on the labels or make stickers using the print then cut option on there and just stick those on the label. There has to be an easier way.
You could even use a cricut with a marker and have it write them for you 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
