There are never enough shots of Dave, in any PF footage. He could be playing a mean riff or singing lead and the focus would be on Roger or one of the other members of the band. I guess the camera person didn’t like his immense talent, along with his gorgeous face.
Roger in the 60s: "haha bass go pluck"
That's every bassists at some point to be fair
Close your eyes and listen Pink Floyd.
It´s another level, music that enters your cells and transforms your live experience.
Bro, I know!
It's fucking insane!
I think what you said is entirely correct.

0:50 Roger pretending to do something with the knobs on his bass lol
Could be a compulsive thing. Whenever I'm on stage and there's a break or small pause where I'm not playing anything, I'm always checking the knobs on my guitar, even though I know they're set right.

I was 16.......January or February of 1968 when I first heard this off The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I was the only kid I knew at the time that knew they existed. My little secret for a month. I think they were more special to me back then, when nobody'd ever heard of them.
Pink Floyd the best
It's like Dave Gilmour didn't exist. There's like a single 1 second shot of him in this whole video.
I don't think David is there. The person at 00:37 I'm pretty sure is an audience member.
@@DerekBolli Definitely Gilmour at 1:23
@@janinecarson8380 Oh, there he is :) Blink and you'd miss him :)
David wanted them to avoid him in those first months because he didn't feel right playing syd barretts stuff he said it once
He was still the new guy during this performance so he probably didn’t want to be filmed as much
Italy seems to be the perfect paradise to express Pink Floyd's genius...we all love you so much🌈
Seems like the cameraman doesn’t like David Gilmour very much ....
Gilmour doesn't appear much in any of these early (1968) videos. My guess is that the band's production asked the filmmakers and TV companies to avoid him in order not to make obvious the absence of Barrett, who was the creative mind and leading force of the group at the time. In other words, publicity reasons.
It should have been Syd.
It’s from about a month after Syd left the band. Not an easy time for anybody.
@@KlausSgroi He actually talks about being incredibly embarrassed the first few months he played with them, so he probably asked them not to film him much.
in 1968, Gilmour wasn't really member of the group you know. Considering Syd's abcense he is probably covering for him in this footage.
Nick Mason is back with his Friday uploads!

Keep 'em coming Nick!
Na its David
5:42 Nick Mason switching from traditional grip to matched grip
So?
Probably an accident
The film editor had more psychedelics running through his veins than the whole band combined. This is the BBC
Cannot blame the BBC for this one. This was made by an Italian TV crew, likely RAI
@@childrenofminervaofficial4316 i think the Channel was Rai 1 (the First italiano TV Channel)
I always wondered how often the band would trip before playing live
It does go perfectly though but it would throw a parent off watching the video but the band really wasn’t hard into drugs
R.I.P Syd Barrett
Rick Wright too
@Rolls Royce fuck you too buddy
@Rolls Royce your opinion is trash fucker
@Rolls Royce if you think that at least be great full of him, without him Floyd wouldn’t exist
One of the greatest guitar riffs in human history ❤️💙♥️
Love the avant-garde cinematography these older music vids had
Its called poor camera quality!
My fav piece from "Piper at the Gates of Dawn since1967....this is a greatly improved version of a sweet descending scale theme and musical hook!
Waters always with character and determinate moves love it!
Oh man, Nick was so sweaty, and it wasn't because of the heat
He was a naughty boy back in the day.
The early Pink Floyd years (1967-1972) are the best. PF and Syd 4ever
Zdecydowanie
The Syd period was pretty good But in between that and DSoTM they were pretty terrible, as this film shows.
Definitely not!!!!
1971 to 1979 Is where you find the absolute Best Of Pink Floyd.
Roger desperately trying to turn his knobs to 11
Yeah that was getting on my nerves. Kind of egotistical considering he did nothing every time he went to grab them
@Number Five good point good point ☝️

5:42 Amazing double bass work
I saw them live in 1968 for the first time, then again in 1969 and for the last time in 1971 when they showcased Meddle before its release. So glad I got to see them in quite small venues before the mega rise to fame and popularity after the release of DSOTM.
Roger Waters is an underrated bass player. In the first two Pink Floyd albums you can hear some of the greatest bass lines in psychedelic rock.
Clearly you have no knowledge of bass playing. Waters is rudimentary at best.
@@jammer3618 You have no knowledge of how opinions work.
Also bass players like you are stuck up snobs who can't get over the fact that nothing you do is important, except that isn't an opinion, that's a fact.
Brie Russell Triggered😂😂 Calm down dude, just listen to your own words. Respect other’s opinions. And Waters was actually a mediocre bassist, he even admitted it and Gilmour played bass for most of meddle, and Pigs. You can clearly see an improvement in the basslines in Pigs (three different ones). Also Gilmour and Wright had to tune his bass lol. He was not bad, we was just mediocre. Not special. He was a genius lyricist tho, that’s why he is recognized as one of the best artists ever. Not because of his bass skills.
I was talking about The Piper at the Gates of Dawn in particular, there are some awesome bass lines on that album!
TheGamesterShow There are! Waters is actually one of my favorite bassists but it’s not precisely because of his skills but his simplicity and taste when it comes to writing basslines. But you can’t put him next to Paul McCartney or Alex James. Even less to someone like Les Claypool or Geddy Lee.
Pink floyd 1st band in space and in my heart ❤
GREAT PERFORMANCE IN 68!!! PINK FLOYD YOU ARE BEST FOREVER

@Satanic Panic Fun and Games I think you're in the wrong music genre then bud
These boys have talent. They work hard. They get along. They succeed in a very hard business: professional musicians.
Roger Waters $310 million. Nick Mason $180 million. David Gilmour $140 million. Richard Wright $70 million.
@Jakov Ćetković what’s up your ass
Look! How beautiful they are!
This is Gold! Thanks!!
There are more early videos of Pink Floyd than I would ever have expected to find on UA-cam. It's interesting to see the different performances of tracks like this one both before and after Syd's ejection from the band. Here, they don't seem comfortable with the playing - it only begins to come together in the last minute or so. And I still keep expecting to see Syd on stage with them ...
Son unos genios me gusta su estilo para mí es lo mejor
Saw them around this time at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, sitting on the floor, about 10 feet away. Savoy Brown opened. My first concert.
Never ever get tired of PF.
Nick Mason, greatest drummer on psyhcedelic era.

The recording date is 6 May 1968, Roma.
Sad that only this part surfaced, Italian TV (RAI) recorded more.

So great, thank you !
Why did every single TV producer at the time hate David? He was hardly ever shown.
I think that at this time Gilmour was only the replacement of Syd in live shows and not an official member
@@smashrunner8954 No. In May 1968 David Gilmour was already a full member.
@@fabriziovilla8688 well , maybe they didn't know it
@@fabriziovilla8688 Yeah, technically he was but in the public eye he was yet to be a real member. Nobody at this time knew who Gilmour was going to become. Easier to see things in hindsight.
bruzie it was to not raise suspects on Barrett’s behaviour:
David was doing more things than him and that could have given people the idea that Syd wasn’t the mastermind anymore

David doesn't show up, but he still publish the video. Good job Dave!
Director of Photography: "Let's be totally fresh and groovy and NEVER show the guitar player!"
this retoration looks amazingggg
Best PF ever, what a masterpiece.
A very unique performance for 68 or for any year for that fact. The early PF with Barrett and the start of David Gilmore is fascinating. The new stuff (atom heard mother, meddle) seem a little more refined.
Awesome stuff from the mighty Floyd
Might be wrong but because Dave was relatively new to the band and playing Syd's part, the camera's were broadly pointed at Rick, Roger and Nick - almost like they were embarrassed that Syd not there and didn't want to spend any time filming the new guy
Magnificent sound and great build up toward the ending
Goddamn they were great
Also Dave is relatively plainly dressed ( yeah, that shirt wouldn't could as plain in any other context. LOL ). But the camera is gonna be naturally drawn to Roger's "dazzle ship" stripes, Nick's hat and silver shirt, and Rick is a one-man disco in gold.
Yeah, why would they want to focus on the most handsome member of the band. There is very little footage of him, even when he is playing or singing, lead.
Also what I noticed which might be slightly off topic is that Dave’s hair was styled the same as Syd’s around the time. I wonder if that was intentional.

The Tangerine Dream song "confrontation" sounds like Pink Floyd. It's on the "thief " soundtrack, and the awesome guitarist is Edgar Froese. Also, the guitar part on their song "song of the whale part-1" sounds like Pink Floyd.
Their first album Electronic Meditation has a lot of Floyd influence too. Most of the electronic German bands took a lot of influence from Pink Floyd.
