      Is a rear suspension refresh in the works?

    • @RacecarAndChill
      @RacecarAndChill  5 років тому +2

      Yes! We are waiting on the rear trailing arms to come back from powder coating before we throw some new bushings in em and install! So much more e28 stuff to come, including engine swaps and a full track car build.

    I just want to change upper and lower control arms, swaybars and tie rod end assemblys. Do I also need to take off the whole shock assembly and brake or is it enough to just remove the parts I want to change?

    • @RacecarAndChill
      @RacecarAndChill  5 років тому +1

      No, you should be able to keep the shock assembly in place if I remember right.

    You missed out the hard bit. How did you remove the shock absorber from the strut after you took it off the car? It needs a special tool to remove it and also one is useful to clamp the strut while working on it.
    The rest of the job is some if you work carefully.

    Does anyone out there know what spring damper combo this is? Looks like it’s partially assembled from ground control maybe?

    In fact, the load on the suspension prior to torquing the bolts should be the vehicle weight plus the equivalent of 2 adults sitting in the front seats, one adult sitting in the back seat and about 100 lbs in the boot/trunk.

      Garrett Lowell
      And the car needs to be roller back and forth several feet for the suspension parts to seat properly, then tightened to torque specs.

      Hard to find these days... I went with Delphi upper control arms on RockAuto fitted with PowerFlex street bushings

      Buy genuine BMW or Lemforder brand. Genuine BMW suspension parts for this car are made by Lemforder. All others are junk and will stretch and the car will feel sloppy. I owned 23 BMWS mostly 80s. That’s my advice to you. Pay a little more but save yourself the headache for years.

    How many pairs of those gloves did you go through on this job? Just use regular work gloves and they actually protect your hands and don't tear every time you touch the car.

    • @RacecarAndChill

      This is a subject that few people discuss. Lol Its hard to use the camera with regular gloves. And the car we were working on was really greasy, so I didn't want my $20 mechanic gloves to get soaked in dirty oil. Rubber gloves are cheap and actually keep your hands clean which is important to me because I work in an office setting. I use regular gloves often, but when filming the dexterity is a priority.

    Deeeewds thank you for the informative video but christ allmighty do you have to run that music throughout the whole thing? how about like, 20 seconds at the top of the clip, fade it out, bring back a little stinger at the end of the vid. Its really distracting. My 2cents
