Hey Natashas Kitchen, I made your French onion soup and my family loved it so much. This is the best French onion soup that I have ever tried. The only thing I changed from the recipe is you use 1/2 teaspoon of granulated sugar, I used 1 teaspoon of it. Instead of using granulated sugar, I use brown sugar for a bit more flavour.

But even with the overcooked onions this soup was very good! I will try it again soon with red wine, and cooking the onions at a lower heat. Thanks for the recipe!
There are so many variations on how to make this great dish! Yours is wonderful! Only one gentle caution: I wouldn't add any amount of sugar to the caramelized onions until I taste them. For example, I've made this dish from Vidalia and Walla Walla onion varieties, which are incredible sweet on their own. I've found that certain varieties of yellow onion may benefit from the addition of some sugar. Of course, the amount of sugar required will vary depending on your personal taste. Many thanks for another wonderfully instructive post. Cheers.

But I suppose that’s French onion soup for you! Just writing in case someone else likes a meatier soup as well :)
I've been making FOS since I first read Julia Child's recipe. Great video. Just my differences - I slice my onions using my food processor. After the onions have browned, I add 2 TBS of flour and cook another 3 minutes. Then I add 2 quarts Beef Broth, and 1 cup of dry white wine. If people don't have Gruyere, I recommend Swiss. If you don't have Baguettes, use panne or even rye bread. Put mine in the toaster, then into the soup, covered w/cheese, under the broiler. One of the best soups out there.

Great recipe, I will make this over the weekend, thank you for making so many simple recipes that are perfect for people without all the extra time other recipes require. And your recipes are delicious, thanks again.
You’re very welcome!
Made this for my sister during our snow/sleet storm here in New England. We both loved it. I did add about one cup of the Sherry instead of 1/2 cup and it was delicious.. Great recipe thanks Natasha. Where do I post my picture of it?
Just soak the onions in salt water for 10 mins after cutting them and don't remove the cover of onions while soaking them you will not get any tears.
@H S Okay try this trick next time and it definitely works too. Just cut the onions in half and soak it for Atleast 10 mins then you will never gets onion tears
Your young man did a wonderful job.
