I still can't believe he's gone. Every SINGLE song from Careless Whisper to this day I just never tire of. I so wish he was still here - singing , bringing us joy and making us think. I have listened to this song hundreds of times - he's done Rufus proud - what an amazing performance.

His final tour. A genius in every way possible.
It is difficult to describe just how extraordinary this vocal performance is. Rufus wrote such a beautiful tune and his version is brilliant. George's version transcends all versions imo. To sing this clearly, in this key but with such control and respect for the song and not make it about the singer's vocal chops and indulgent nuance is a masterclass in class and humility. It is what he does not do that makes this one so good for me. He cuts through the note like Sinead O'Connor might but with more reserve, so the song comes piercing through to us. And that may be because the song cut through George. He always worked his socks off on covers and often elevated them above the original takes, like his Long and Winding Road and Someone to Love. George has been such a huge part of my life in that I spent so so long listening to him, singing along to him, screaming my heart out to him and spending so long trying to get my hair like his since I was a teenager 😂 and I know I'm not alone. And in the 35 years I've followed George and seen him many times live from the last Wham gig when I went to London from Dublin as a 14 yr old on my own, to seeing him do Symphonica, buying the 12 inch of Last Christmas every year for years (even though it's not really a Christmas song) because of the added tracks, his dedication to his image was rarely matched and his voice and singing was so clean, so worked it was almost dismissed because of how it was packaged. And now, we can all enjoy his great work without fear being judged ourselves. For me, George was a great songwriter but an incredibly gifted and crafted singer that only a few can match. Thank you, dear Giorgios Kyriacos Panayiotou for your amazing dedication and for sharing your tremendous work with us. Bless you deeply, my dear Brother. All the Love. All the Love.

I was lucky to have seen George,the greatest voice I will ever hear in my lifetime,twice. Once in 1987 and then in around 2007 or 2008. No one will ever come class to that voice of his. Pure emotion,soul, and just joy. He had such an impact on my younger years. George was my first big crush. My biggest regret is not being able to see Wham in concert. His voice is Angelic, the tone of his voice is off the charts.
I’m lucky enough to have seen him Live, never heard a wrong note.
When he passed away part of my youth died, he was a beautiful soul, his generosity was overwhelming and always anonymous.

Agree fully! Been a huge fan since Careless Whisper, and all the covers he does just stun me. I love Bonnie Raitt's original of I Cant Make You Love Me, and he even makes that one better. One thing I didn't know for decades was that was him singing the high parts on the 2nd half of Nikita by Elton John. I went duh when I figured it out about 20 yrs ago. I was young when it came out, and loved it, but since Casey Kasem didn't apparently know that was him backing Elton, it wasn't stated. Casey always gave great tidbits! LOL
Rufus wainwright is more emotional. This is reasonable. I love GM and think if another artist were to perform one of his songs they wouldn’t be able to give it justice.

George Michael is the only artist I know of whose covers of other artists' songs are almost always better than the originals. This cover of "Going to a Town" is no exception (and that's saying something, because the original recording by Rufus Wainwright is absolutely beautiful). This version just blows me away, esp. from 3:20 on. And that note he hits on the Dmin7 at 3:59... Sublime.
