1. This is clear Makalov erasure. The best way to torture him is to drag him kicking and screaming through the entire game instead of benching him, which is what he wants. 2. Since you didn’t touch on Kaze Saizo and Kagero, I’d like to highlight how well the three create their own niches. Kaze has fantastic Speed Skill and Res, making him adept at fighting large groups of mages, which is valuable in Fates, especially Conquest. Saizo has great strength and bulk making him the best enemy phase ninja, and Kagero has the best strength but paper defenses. Letting her be the glass cannon of the trio. You probably won’t have room for all three in a BR or Rev playthrough but the choice between them feels meaningful which I think makes Kagero a solid iteration of the “third cav” or ninja in this case.
1. You're so right, using him is probably the best way to torture that mf... noted for if I ever end up replaying Path of Radiance (ew), I guess lol 2. And yeah, thanks for the ninja expansion!
Lmaooooooooooooooooooooooo, but yeah, my analytical videos generally have subtitles on them, mostly because I would benefit from them being present if I were a viewer. I do try to actually put in some stuff that's on the actual video though for the enjoyment of anyone actually watching along
Something else intresting about noah in fe 6 is he is the character that recruits fir on the western isles so if your going for a 100% recruitment he has to be deployed on one of the best training maps for him since he his sword rank and movement make him take the brigades on easier
Beowulf has pursuit to match his fast swords Lex has vantage to compliment his high damage brave axe Finn has miracle, which explains how he survived to see gen 2
I don't know if Kein and Alba from FE5 count as part the Kain and Abel archetype but Callion that is supposed to be the third cav is just better than the other two
I'm playing through Thracia for the first time as a streamed playthrough, and yeah, that's what everyone told me. Carrion's growths being considered good is funny to me since I'm much more used to playing modern FE, but I guess in the context of Thracia...
@@akirasou the three have very good growth rates but what makes Callion better is that he can use sword and lances when is mounted and the other two only lances, also Callion have a movement Star and PCC of 4
Personally I'm more of a robert enjoyer, but my friend vouches for carion. To me he's just a free paragon sword though as I'd rather use it to train other units
The Franz Fallout is very interesting to me. He's still a top tier draft pick, but with how FE8 works with most of your early units requiring a good share of the intro maps exp in order to function properly it really shows how much he requires favoritism to work, and how being the second best target is a sad story for people wanting to optimize. I have a caveat on the Midir Good train that might just be my own play experience but even with the killer bow he struggles hard, lacking the durability to take any enemy phase and lacking the reliability to get kills. The Oscar hate train I've never understood, maybe at some point that lecture will come out but the thought that Astrid is a better unit feels like heresy to me. And not mentioned but worth talking about is sometimes a new cav will join later but with the best of both christmas cav's worlds, see Hardin in fe1 and its remakes. Of course if we opened the floodgates to EVERY cav that isn't a Christmas cav in games with Christmas cavs we would full an entire FE roster and then some just from fe1, 3, 5, 6 and 9.
Yo Zenith, finally getting around to responding to this! Hope 2024 has been treating you well thus far :> Yeah, the turnaround on Franz seems to have been pretty big from what I've gathered. As you said, it's a classic moment of "the difference between first and second place is more than one." In the draft context it works (partly because it has to), but even there, the Vanessa flier envy moment is real That's fair. I guess the thing about Midir in my mind is that as an Archer, there was always going to be a limit to how much he could do to be 'good,' but him at least having Pursuit and Canto means that he can kill things good enough on Player Phase to get away so he's in no danger on Enemy Phase. Which, given that an Archer being in enemy range on EP tends to be counterproductive... I view as a plus, anyway Oscar is a weird one. Definitely my views on him have been influenced by Dani, having known her since before I even began playing the Tellius games. The core argument for it is that Titania can kill the things really easily for you anyway with basically no risk, so you don't have to try and train anyone else, especially because of the existence of BExp meaning that even Oscar can just be BExped at a later date. So early contributions for him kinda don't meaningfully exist, at least in my mind And on your final two points, yup! So many Cavs, so much to discuss... Potentially a hack designed around all of your units being Cavs could be cool, in a similar vein to Myrm Emblem or Oops All Archers FE8. Would definitely have to include at least a couple of timed objectives where in order to reach them, you use Paladin Shuffles. Now I'm kinda interested in the idea lol But yeah, there's my response! Hopefully it was half interesting, or at least worth the read :D
I know most of the fandom has never even considered playing fe9 maniac mode, but it's worth noting that bexp is severely limited in that difficulty and depending on your playstyle it either makes astrid one of your main bexp sinks or there just isn't enough exp to go around. You'd only realistically have enough bexp for training 2-3 units and rounding out everyone else's levels so your options are severely limited. Personally I think that's a point against astrid, but I can see the argument for using her *because* she's got paragon even in maniac
That's fair, thanks for the additional perspective from a Maniac PoV! It's much appreciated. I haven't played it yet myself, but I imagine that I probably will in the future under duress lmao
@@akirasou I understand why this perspective isn't often used as maniac mode is a serious roller coaster of an experience to put it mildly. I want to recommend everyone to try it at least once but I honestly can't in good faith. I'd only recommend it if you really liked path of radiance and are pretty experienced in these games. still though, if we have to look at lunatic+/lunatic' for avatar utility, we should definitely look at maniac mode for bexp use viability. (I wish there was a mod to add the class crit bonuses from the western release into maniac mode though)
Pretty interesting to see how each game made most of their cavaliers different in some ways, despite always having the same christmas cavs. It really depends whether or not they're great to use or it's better to use another unit. While I don't really mind the christmas cavs, in nothing else I find them to be a pretty nice FE recurrent element, I do get interested when there's that one or two (or three or more, FE4 be like lmao) cavalier that isn't part of the christmas cavs, like Hardin being the third best cavalier of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, Matthis being one of the worst cavaliers in both the war of shadows and war of heroes (if nothing else, he's pretty mediocre all around), Finn for being the Jugdral character that's the most playable in both FE4 and FE5, and Fiona for being, uuuh, the worst FE10 cavalier (there's a lot of things that makes training her very difficult and not worth the effort). Speaking of cavaliers tho, as for the FE romhack I would make, I think I only have in mind to have two basic cavaliers (christmas ones like always), of which the red one will actually be the one with good STR and SPD and has higher sword level rank than lances, which makes him a unit that can both strike twice easily and do a lot of damage, and be a decent dodge tank, and the green one being the one with perfect SKL (lol 95% growth), and having much better defensive stats and higher lance level rank over swords, perfect if you want someone that can reliably hit and survive for a long time, while having two paladins, one being the regular Jagen you get at the beginning and has the worst growth than everyone else, and another one you get midway in a separate route of two IIRC, that one being the balanced one, with having slightly higher stats and most of his growths being 60%, with his worst ones being magic and resistance (20% and 35%), made as someone that's useable right away in case you had trouble with your other cavaliers (didn't want to train them, somehow didn't end up good, or are dead). If I would add another cav to the game tho, maybe it would be one that's blue and uses axes. I think that's all I have to say. Nice video. Hope you have (or had) a happy christmas!
Yo, I'm glad that you found it interesting! It's definitely cool to see how the series has approached Christmas Cavs and the Cavs adjacent to it. Also lmao Matthis, I completely forgot that dude existed lmaoooo Oh that's cool! At first, when I saw high Str and Spd, I was like, what does that leave for the other one lmao, but especially if the second one still has decent enough Spd to not get doubled by most things, I could definitely see the bulk working out alright enough. And yooooooo, Blue Axe Cav, Lex archetype real? /j Thanks for watching, and I hope you had a nice Christmas yourself! And of course that the end of 2023 treats you well :>
When I first read the title the ones that immediately came to mind were Trec and Noah. a pair of cavaliers that are in fact, not the christmas cavaliers. and yet you chose not to use them in your examples. truly, a shameful decision
Shoutouts to Peri who has the green/red heterochromia and has a birthday of December 24th. Truly The Christmas cav of Fates
And literally the worst cav of her game
Yah just a shame that well, Fates doesn't really get mentioned here since she isn't Crimis-adjacent lol
