Yea none of these guys can bend like Marty. They are amazing in their own right for sure. Broderick was the only guitarist they had that could nail Marty's parts near perfect.
Dave's interview:"We currently have a guitar player situation, where our current guitar player is a man named Teemu Mäntysaari and our regular guitar player was Kiko Loureiro, Kiko had some issues. Highly recommend checking Teemu out in Wintersun - 'Sons of Winter and Stars' live in studio, Megadeth is awesome and all but Wintersun is one od the most technically tight bands of all time and one of the most complex - Teemu can shred a 14 minute track whilst doing backing vocals without breaking a sweat 🤘
Funny you mentioned Desert Storm. This album released less than a year before that. I was military during DS and this album was blaring in our barracks when Desert Shield was announced to us.
It's so funny that we all end up using the same words to describe Marty's playing.. " exotic". There is literally no other metal guitarist alive who has ever been given that title. Marty IS that far east " exotic" sound. Such a unique treasure that guy. I think we should look at some of Schenker's finest work on your next videos. That guy is another gem.

Dave’s voice has suffered since he killed cancer, saw him on the Endgame tour and his vocals were great, and I was blown away with the sound of the band, absolutely incredible tone. 👊🇦🇺
He was suffering before the treatment.. He has blown his voice out around 2010.. He's actually improved considerably vocally since his Cancer treatment.. He has said that the difference now is he can't produce saliva the same way.. And needs to manufacture it using hard boiled sweets and honey to keep lubricated.. His clarity is very noticeable compared to the early last decade.. His vocals were sort of blending together then due to his lack of mouth movement and clarity.. Very tight.. Now he's more fully sounding the words out.. You can make out the words better live than on some records now.. Which is a considerable improvement.. The Conjuring for example.. Its hard enough to tell what's being said on the album recording of that song.. But not live.. Dave nails that song to.. He wouldn't dare touch that song a few years ago due to his vocal troubles.. Nows it's a set regular. Does Dave struggle still? Yes.. Of course... He will have good days and bad.. And that's OK. He's 61 years old.. He's been doing this for 40 years.. Its acceptable to me that someone as unique vocally as Mustaine continues to deliver what he can vocally.. There isn't any other band of Megadeths age that is touring as much as they are.. Megadeth tours more than bands half their age.
Holy Wars is about when Dave spouted his mouth off about the IRA conflict in the UK a few decades ago. He kinda generalized it so it wouldn't be so on the nose, but it was based purely on the Ireland situation and him saying some things he shouldn't have said. It's telling that almost everyone thinks of the Middle East when they hear of this song and it had nothing to do with that.
I woud love to know how the Teemu did pull all this off, how much preparation time he had? Some words also from the guitar tech point of view - new guy coming in. This is just just outstanding. Hyvä Suomi :)
The stage presences of each member in Megadeth is always choreographed. Those guys at Metallica definitely enjoy more freedom when they perform on the stage.
Man , Dave did NOT ace his outro solo. Teemu absolutely did a fantastic job. He's hitting the big bends and the timing better and better with each show.
I understand people not liking Dave's singing voice. He's not for everyone. But my gosh his voice fits that music perfectly. He can carry a tune - a must for a singer - and he has that gritty quality that works in the overall context of the band. Someone should do Megadeth songs with a Justin Timberlane voiceover or maybe Bob Goulet (sp?) just so folks can see how ridiculous it sounds. James Hetfield didnt want to be a singer either but without his voice it's not Metallica.
Dave wrote the song based on his experience in Ireland. Look that story up, it's interesting. Then the end lyrics switch to being about The Punisher character.
Great video as always Shred!! must say though, that the conflict isn't ancient at all. It is an occupation driven by land and financial interests. They make it seem complicated so we lose interest in finding out the truth.
This is what I have been hoping for, it Teemu could be there in the next album, and something heavier stuff would emerge. And I read, that Dirk has been in Swedish melodeth band earlier, so he should be capable of doing some heavier drums too.
Realistically, assuming that he only had a passing knowledge of megadeth - how much time do you think a guitarist like Teemu would need to learn a full sets worth of megadeth material?
Kiko is the guy to give Megadeth its spark back and man did he ever. An incredible musician and Father, just an all out really good man. Kiko has to stay in or it could turn to ashes in your mouth......
Agreed. He almost humanized Mustaine. And as many times as I’ve met the man, it is not. Easy. Kiko’s online propping up of this band was epic. And just like Broderick, Young, Friedman, Petrelli, Drover, and even Poland in the early 00’s, it doesn’t matter to Dave Mustaine who you are, how you play, or what you contribute, you’re replaceable. He will NEVER get over Metallica. He will forever treat every Megadeth member as just a hired gun. Kiko is better off.
Couldn’t tell you who’s better out of all the Megadeth guitarists, but I do know there isn’t a bad one!! Teemu is amazing but nobody can play the Friedman solos like he did himself. This guy however is pretty damn close
Dude he sure has. Do a search for a video of his called 'The best guitarist EVER? | Megadeth's New Weapon'...Then get back to me. When I first read the title of that video I rolled my eyes and was like "Yea whatever"...Then I watched it and holy shit, I think it's true. I don't think I've seen anyone as technically proficient AND melodic as Teemu. It's kinda unbelievable.
"Something i dont understand" ... "dave we cant understand you" hahahahahahahaaha Subbed! I was rolling. Great breakdown and commentary of one of the greatest metal songs. Subbed, liked the whole 9 yards!
This had great audio. I watched a few others of this concert and couldnt hear Dave singing. This one was clear and Dave sounded great considering age and defeating cancer.
A strangled goose😂 In all seriousness, we grew up making fun of Sweating Bullets because of his voice and what do you know, it's now one of my favourite songs.
When you said "I love how Dave doesent care about keys when he's soloing". I fucking lost it😂😂 Havent laugh so hard in ages. Thank you for the entertainment and greetings from Finland 🤘
I've been watching a lot of Megadeth video's with Teemu and there's no denying that he's very talented but so is Kiko but Marty will always be my fave.
8:38 no hes not wtf is this....who made the videoTeemu's aunt or smth? its obviously lesser than marty, good performance though, just not marty friedman
First up, Teemu is amazing. Research this kid. Secondly, Kiko ain't coming back, IMO. He's too talented to be cocooned in Dave's Web for so long. And last but not least, DIRK! Mustaine really won the lottery getting him to join. One of THE best metal drummers of the last 30 years. Puts Scott Travis in the corner. 😊
It’s one thing to execute playing someone else’s riffs or solos, and entirely something else to have put in the time writing the composition. IMO Chris Poland and Marty Friedman are the 2 best lead guitarist of Megadeth’s past.
Teemu lacks Marty's rich and velvety vibrato like a fine wine..that makes a great difference. Apart from that, he's a really good player...better than Kiko who's butchering the solos.
I think 99% people would disagree and HARD. Plenty of people don't wanna listen to MD because of Dave's voice and many complain and wonder what would the band be like with a "better singer". Me? surely not the best singer, but I'm a BIG fan of his voice and think it's one of the main ingredients in their original sound. I love it
dave is an awful singer. you can like megadeth while understanding that. he's a good guitar player, but a bad singer, and that's okay. he's the frontman of megadeth, so he doesn't need to be that good.
You should review some older Voivod, like Dimension Hatross and Nothingface. That is some interesting guitar styles and would be great to learn some theory behind it.
He wrote it while touring in Ireland 🇮🇪 agile the IrA was fighting the English/Great Britain!!! Dave had made a comment that was very unpopular and had to be escorted by armed gaurds!!! It was crazy shit Shred!!! I know you're too young to remember that shit, but it was popping off big time!!!
@@minkorrh I read Dave's biography and he explains it exactly as the guy said. After the concert he wrote the riff and the line "fools like me who cross the sea and come to foreign lands ...". I think he got the idea about holy wars through the incident in ireland but the rest of the lyrics is definitely about middle east
People need to stop trying to figure out who’s better? And start asking the right question because anyone can practice and learn to play another musicians music note by note if you put the effort. The right question would be can He or anyone can create an iconic solo like that?
I read an interview with Mustaine around the time Marty had recorded his first album with Megadeth. Dave said that he had learned so much from Marty, technique-wise, ie scales and cleaning up his playing to not be so sloppy. Conversely Dave had taught Marty to be more "rocky" in his approach because Megadeth's music is very different than Cacophony's music. I thought that came out very well in their albums. A combination that just rocked!
Shred, when you were referencing the key and the chromaticism of the second part of the song, you were talking about it in the original key of E, instead of the whole step down difference they play it in now. I thought you knew everything and now I don't know what to believe.
Dave sounds like lemme motor head. The ace of spades.. fucken suppressed voice. The new dude pulling off Dave's expectations with discrepancies. Dave.. hey ringworm this is the guitar I want you to play, when I walk here on stage you better counteract🤘😎🤘.
He measures up to the task well. I was at this show, Daves solo was intense, i was really lucky he was right in front of me for it. I dont know if he'll be back to Bloomington but I sure hope so!! Ps Dave wasn't putting on a show for the cameras, he calmed the crowd from rioting & stopped the fighting. Lucky Charms kept his cool and handled it like a professional. Will Kiko come back....Kiko has said many times he aspires to be a guitar teacher on Ytube. Who's to say?? Ps Temmu played Tornado of Souls correctly, lol, Im suprized that hasn't been brought up yet...Thanks Mr. Shred! 🤟💀🤟👋🖤🦋🖤 If Kiko decides to move in a different direction, I'll love to see him performing his solo shows also!! Cheers to both Kiko & Temmu🖤💋🖤
To be fair no matter whos better at what since dave was jn metallica in the early days growing up they all learned theory in high school, they can all play each others instruments with ease
How to properly pronounce Teemu; The E-sound is not the same as in "team" or "emu", it's more like the E in "leg". Draw out the E in leg; leeeg. Then add a T instead of the L; Teeeeg. Then replace the G with an M; Teeeem. Then finally, pronounce the O the same way as in the word "cool" but shorter.
Lol Dave gets Teemu out the way after the solo. I thought it was still Kiko after I had heard rumors that Kiko had dipped. Guess it's not a rumor anymore.
I understand the new guitarist is learning the songs but jezzzz! He destroyed the acoustic part of the song. He nailed the rest of the solos by the way.

Kiko is an incredible player and such a great guy. 👍👍. He brought the life back since Marty left. And he and Dave are a great combo. FACT!!
@@allendean9807You make it sound as if you have some sort of influence to make an attempt at humanizing him... 😂
Corny Af😂
Not for the money, not for the fame
Not for the power, JUST FOR MUSTAINE!!!
Will we be getting a Powertrip festival review? Would love to hear your thoughts on it
Couldn’t tell you who’s better out of all the Megadeth guitarists, but I do know there isn’t a bad one!! Teemu is amazing but nobody can play the Friedman solos like he did himself. This guy however is pretty damn close
yeah definitely he shreds. . .
LOL Bro have you even heard Wintersun? this is childs play for him. Wintersun slaps my guy
4 security dudes were beating up on someone, DAVE saw that & stopped the show. Even got the police to Remove The 4 Dudes.
Fun fact, song originally called sweating butthole
Shred: “Dave always has his pants in a bunch about something.”
Dave: “DUH”
Have you been using the tanning light again?!?!
I hope rattlehead or skull beneath the skin comes back into the setlist someday. Or my last words!
It’s about the troubles in Northern Ireland
they're still better than metalica after all
I think the clean arabic-sounding interlude is more based on the gypsy scale, which includes Phrygian elements, but also Hungarian minor.
That crowd looked asleep. I have yet to see Megadeth, but when I do, I will not just be standing there
I saw them a couple of weeks ago. Phenomenal.
Yes, best riff ever
You guys should hear the whole Rust In Peace disc they did with Chris Poland!
I only wish the sound quality was even for all instruments, I'll bet they will release official live tracks
Teemu lacks Marty's rich and velvety vibrato like a fine wine..that makes a great difference. Apart from that, he's a really good player...better than Kiko who's butchering the solos.
dave's voice and way to articulate is amazing , best singer ever... in very complex context!
If he's the frontman, then he should be good imho. Tho, I guess his biggest talent was his songwriting.@@Celatra
You should review some older Voivod, like Dimension Hatross and Nothingface. That is some interesting guitar styles and would be great to learn some theory behind it.
Ok. I thought you were about to start an oompah loompah song on the piano.
You really think so considering the opening riff and the Phrygian that it is? That's middle-east all day long.
It was Northern Ireland... and you no idea what you're talking about, neither did Dave.
People need to stop trying to figure out who’s better? And start asking the right question because anyone can practice and learn to play another musicians music note by note if you put the effort. The right question would be can He or anyone can create an iconic solo like that?
Temu got a nice tone, like what I've heard from him so far 👍
That being said, none of them can touch God Emperor Marty tho 🔥
I read an interview with Mustaine around the time Marty had recorded his first album with Megadeth. Dave said that he had learned so much from Marty, technique-wise, ie scales and cleaning up his playing to not be so sloppy. Conversely Dave had taught Marty to be more "rocky" in his approach because Megadeth's music is very different than Cacophony's music. I thought that came out very well in their albums. A combination that just rocked!
Troy from Mastodon did a good cover of holy wars and I think he can do a guest vocals for them.
How to properly pronounce Teemu;
The E-sound is not the same as in "team" or "emu", it's more like the E in "leg".
Draw out the E in leg; leeeg. Then add a T instead of the L; Teeeeg. Then replace the G with an M; Teeeem.
Then finally, pronounce the O the same way as in the word "cool" but shorter.
best tutorial out there!
Hard to go in MEGADETH...Teemu did.
first guitar player that i casn feel marty energy
Lol Dave gets Teemu out the way after the solo. I thought it was still Kiko after I had heard rumors that Kiko had dipped. Guess it's not a rumor anymore.
Temu is amazing, but I will wait to see if he something new for Megadeth before comparing him with Marty.
you could easily be in Megadeth SHRED!!!!
I feel like I've read this script before, so I'll just say that if Kiko comes back to the band I'll eat my socks.
Arguably the best Mdeth song of all time.
Well, he's no marty
I still prefer Kiko but Teemu's great. Don't know if Kiko's coming back tbh.
Nothing against Teemu he's great. I do like Kiko better. No hate, just my opinion.
Hasn’t he played with them before?
I understand the new guitarist is learning the songs but jezzzz! He destroyed the acoustic part of the song. He nailed the rest of the solos by the way.
I believe your in love with Dave Mustaine?
it’s not megadeths new guitarist at all. He’s just filling in. You need to get title right
Hahaha,, yup 💯
How messed up this video dropped right before the Hamas attack love you Shred . Someday I hope the only Holy Wars are shred songs 😢
