I'm sure as Hell happy he made the PT!!! I absolutely LOVE THEM!!!! My favorite era in the entire Star Wars saga episodes 1-6!!!! As well as the Clone Wars.
Prequels were always great. Love them as well as the originals 🔥🔥 what I would love is a supplemental piece to the prequels like the 2003 clone wars was and training stuff with Anakin. And to show MORE of Hayden and Ewan Anakin and Obi-Wan and their adventures and exploits in the clone wars in live action and their bond unfold and training flashbacks with him and Anakin. I still love and am more than satisfied with the prequels but it would be even better to get this stuff as complementary/supplemental matieral to the prequels.
Morgoth from Angband your just another person going by what everyone else says 'prequels suck' 'prequels are shit' the truth is they aren't tho are they
what's sad is the basic outline of the story in the prequels was right the clones the emporer rise to power but other things the jedi's personiality and backstory etc. Anakin in general and padme and everything about jar jar the nemoidains qui gon jinn count dooku's name and maybe waito. other than that it would have worked if tweaked a bit a well :(
Gary Renkins I disagree episode 3 is the greatest, but I think 1 is better than 2. 2 had a more interesting story (but the romance and cgi), 1 had podrace Darth Maul, Qui Gon, and some great practical effects
No one hated the prequels when they first came out. They were loved for the most part then those but hurt fans that didn't like thme started talking shit and going on youtube when it was just starting out and starting painting a narrative and people like sheep fell for it smh.
Like or hate the prequels we all can agree he cared about Star Wars, respected the fans and was really creative. How did he even come up with all this? These cultures, planets and aliens.
Say what you will about his lack of talent in the dialogue department (this is true for the entire saga, not just the prequels), George Lucas is still a master storyteller.
I appreciate George Lucas for what he did! He is a unique director who is more of an avant-garde director in Hollywood (which is hard to think of). I love prequel trilogy as he explored such a vast and beautiful galaxy.
Both deserved to use better technology. Modern era let to make much better SCI-FI with CGI etc. Lucas "just" brought innovation like the first time after all. Very well made.
Dream I felt he had the presence of a powerful Sith lord or Jedi. Even if not, you could still do a good "Was good now evil" transition if he was just a commander.
I know I did, but everyone can't be pleased. The new trilogy and the upcoming spinoffs are far better than what George Lucas cultivated in the prequels.
How blind! How blind! George Lucas cultivated Star Wars in the prequels than destroying Star Wars what Kathleen Kennedy, Jar Jar Abrams and Ruin Johnson are doing in the new trilogy!
carmineglitch You CANNOT be serious. Prequels have flaws and cheeses but they are MASTERPIECES. The Disney movies are just cash grabbing, forgettable sci-fi popcorn flicks.
Oof, for the recent trilogy of Star Wars movies everybody was like "the directors gotta be so careful to make this right". Then people hated the new movies like "it makes you appreciate the prequels". But here sits GL himself saying that he did these movies because he thought it was an "interesting challenge". No consideration of whatever the heck people would say about it!
+80s baby Latino I liked all the prequels as much as the originals. The Force Awakens was pretty to look at but pretty lame otherwise. Definitely a poor plotline. And the way ep3 fits in with ep4 like a perfect puzzle piece was just masterful.
80s baby Latino It showed us how Anakin came to be Darth Vader and why, and explained how the situation with the galactic empire came to be, while exploring the nature of the dark side in more depth. Just off the top of my head.
+Oxcilic I agree with most of what you said except it didn't focus on characters of the dark side like it should of. I loved all 6 so far have not seen the new one yet. If the prequels had focused on the dark side as much as the Jedi's I would of loved it even more this to me really let down the fans and myself in general but I see more now just disappointed with so much room for more about Darth maul in ep1, dooku/fett in ep2, and Grevious in ep3 as well Palpatine in all three working with the dark side to show his manipulation towards everyone instead of making it all subtle and more about focusing on Anakin and all it felt like it wanted to blame anakin alone for his change but the Jedi council and the sith were more about his faults
@40Pacino I respect him for not apologizing. Regardless of what you think of the prequels, he made them the way he wanted, and he's happy with them. Plus he's made millions of dollars off of them, and we're the ones paying and complaining.
I'm glad to find out that there are fans that respect/admire Lucas!!! It's sad that many fans started treating Lucas as if he was a CRIMINAL, in fact he was treated like garbage, just because they didn't like the prequels. I like Lucas, since he made American Graffiti, Indiana Jones, and the old trilogy. I love all these movies.
Padme Amidala is my favorite character. I hate she gets scraped in 3. I do love that she helped start the rebellion but you gotta find the deleted scenes for that.
I think a lot of people don't realize that the original Star Wars movies weren't all that beautifully written either. It was revolutionary to the period of film. It was a summer action flick. People were surprised by it. I grew up for 11 years watching and rewatching the original trilogy. When the prequels came out, I enjoyed them too. They were fun movies. I watch them now, they're still fun movies. They have minor annoyances that weren't in the originals, but they're still fun.
It would be interesting to see which scenes he had already come up with prior to the filming of the prequels, that were deemed impossible by then current technology, and which scenes were the result of George thinking 'Hell, I have a magic computer now, I might as well put it to good use. Shove another 300 Jedi in there. And give that guy two more arms.'
For years people told me the prequels were shit. Comming out of my teens i now understand why the original movies were better than the prequels and i feel that myself. Now what i am starting to find most anyoing is the people that still tell me the prequels are shit. Everyone loves something and that isn't even static or permanent. So why the fuck waste your time on people trying to convince them while they are not, or are not yet, like you. Let people figure out for themselves!
Why? They had good stories, fun, excitement, and you got what you wanted, to see Anakin’s slow decent to the Dark side of the force. Episode 1 was taken from Lucas’ own religion regarding a savor. Episode 2 was Romeo & Juliet (only done better). Episode 3 told why people do evil things & how obsession blinds people to the truth.
Anakin was a good kid. He fell to temptation of the dark side and came back. He even turned himself into the chancellor for his crime on Tatooine. "Remember what you told me about your mother and the sand people?" Anakin had along fall to the dark side and it started when Quigon took him from his Mother. "I sense much fear in you" Yoda to Skywalker. Try paying attention to the story.
I am a painter and I totally agree... All art is technology and all artists at some time bumb against it... Because no matter what oils, acrilics watercolors or digital... all mediums are cool but none is perfect... The artist is always in a higher level than the mediums... MTFBWY
The Prequels are just as important as the originals. They're exist and are part of the entire Star Wars fans. Those who hate the Prequels are not true star wars fans like John Campea. The Prequels are fantastic and I would recommend them to anyone. Star Wars Prequels all the way baby!!!
So as soon as someone doesn't like a few movies in a series, they are no longer a true fan of said series? That is like saying I'm not a fan of the Karate Kid series because I think part III sucked. Or that I am not a true fan of Indiana Jones because I don't like Crystal Skull. If you like the prequels, whatever, I really could care less. I have a different opinion than you, and we could debate that, but that is not the problem. I think it is not fair to say someone is not a true Star Wars fan, just because they have a different taste than you. For a more in depth view, see a video called Prequel fans and the phrase they use. It is by Sams Channel. Thanks for reading my little rant!😄
There are so many things wrong with the prequels in terms of story telling and pacing and other film elements . It's not needless nitpicking. Why would a Star Wars fan want to hate Star Wars? They don't, it's just that the movies were bad expect for ROTS. Have you ever watched the People vs George Lucas? So many people were HYPED for the phantom menace and then they got what they got and they were extremely disappointed and watched it 5 more times to try to like it and they couldn't. It's not them just wanting to hate on something new.
the Prequels are AMAZING! and i like them better thne the Originals, i also like the new clone wars series the new films gave birth too (well not tecnicly but there is some conection..) George Lucas is an awesome storyteller and pretty cool guy, i hope to meat as well as work with him someday.
3:11- "I like the story of Darth Vader, and I thought, this will be fun."And it was fun. Mr. Lucas told a very good story. Now let's shame him and treat him like a criminal because we didn't like Jar Jar Binks and there was too much CGI. And let's keep doing that for the next twenty years.
"Uh I never intended to do more than the original trilogy." George on Mondays, Wensdays, Fridays, and Sundays. "Uh I always wanted to do this as one movie, and now you can view these films 1-6 as one long film about the story arc of darth vadar." George on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays.
guess its good i never saw 4,5 and 6 but grew up with the prequels, i rather enjoyed them all and never really saw problems, a lot of people complain about jar jar and thats like all they have to say, yea he was a bit annoying, but it didnt ruin anything.
the dialogue is cheesier than the originals, the mis casting of anakin both child and jedi, the killing of darth maul, Midi-chlorians, yoda killing droids which is against his philosophy in the original trilogy, also its mostly politics not adventure or spectacular landscapes like the first three.
It's not just jar jar that ruined the prequels. But if you watch the original Star Wars trilogy you'd probably understand why the prequels did not live up to their predecessor.
Matthew Sands i see, i guess if you grew up with the old trilogy and are a big fan, the prequels might not of lived up to the OT. Also, thanks for giving more examples on why it was bad, because most just say, "it sucked".
DeltaPie The re-mastered, and altered films are not pure star wars, it's a very different feeling to go from the original ORIGINAL'S and do it that way.
George talks about something that usually isn't that brought up... Technology will naturally limit art and the only way to surpass those limits is by pushing them as George Lucas did, especially by his usage of CGI technology in Episodes I-III which pioneered this technology into what it is today.
Look, prequels have flaws, like dialogue. But it’s consistent to the saga, unlike the new trilogy. Plus George asked 10 other directors to help direct but they all gave him the same answer “he should make them, it’s his story and characters”. Soo he did, and got shitted on. But I’m glad he made them before Disney took over god knows what they would’ve. Probably would’ve wrote the film individually instead of consistent
Star Wars I-VI are the true cult classic wonderful movies that built the legend of the Star Wars universe, the Skywalker saga, Star Wars world building, iconic characters, world expansion and exploration, the diversity of peoples, planets, environments, creatures, a great galactic epic in six wonderful parts, the story of Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one destined to bring balance to the Force, the rise and fall of a hero who succumbs to fear, anger and the temptation of the dark side, his quest to save those he loved, leading him to become Darth Vader, and how he ultimately redeems himself through the love of his son, the story of a democracy slowly corrupted into a dictatorship, as Palpatine manipulates fear and crisis to seize absolute power, until the fall of the Empire and the restoration of the Republic's order through Anakin's sacrifice, ending with the liberation of all the planets of the Star Wars world, the wonderful Star Wars galaxy, the work of its creator, two wonderful facets that form an inseparable whole of the Star Wars galaxy, the six original movies of the Star Wars universe, the creativity of world-building, the perfectionist visionary genius and incredible imagination of George Lucas, six amazing movies that built the myth and legend of the Star Wars universe, that revolutionized pop culture and the film industry, and Star Wars I-VI will never be beaten.
to his own credit though, the idea of writing a story of a character or movie plot from its beginnings or origin did not just occur with SWPrequel. Lucas already did this with Indiana Jones:The Last Crusade. The difference is that Indy's younger version only lasted about 5-10 minutes and then the rest of the movie shifted back to the current adult Indy. Lucas also had help with the screenplay and had THE BEST director of our time (Spielberg) direct it. Wish he wouldlve done the same with the SWP
I admit it. I'm from that crowd who is a bigger fan of the Special Editions than the originals, and I am Pro The Prequels. I think Lucas has made all the right moves despite what others will say.
@TheDevineBeing Weta made the props and a fair amount of the CGI creatures, ILM was the one who broought in the Landscape of Pandora, the bioluminescent jungle, and the shit ton of trees they had to get done for the movie. They also handled a lot of the vehicles.
@DemiathDoomhammer I loved Episode III, I actually have no problems with it at all. It also has some of the "best" dialogue Lucas has ever written, not saying much, but it's something.
+Joey Cepeda We all tought was like previous 6, while the creppy mess from Abrams, clearly is not. Only good thing are the ideas of original subject from Lucas and Harrison Ford and his character.
+The0nlyKyd But apparently the prequels does? Is that it, you hate one subjective crap in your eyes but, love an objectively cash grab by Disney, to silence the OT tards that hated the prequels, is that it?
Forget what I said, I just saw TFA it sucked balls. There was too many shit going on, it was too fast and the story was predictable. I was just saying what I thought the movie was going to be. Still though, it was better than the prequels.
Apparently technology and effects were the main focal point for the prequels. "Don't be too proud of this technological terror you constructed. The ability to fill a screen with load of cgi action is insignificant next to the power of a good story and shooting on locations."
numkie You do realize they traveled to locations all over the world from Spain, Italy, and even Tunisia. Hell the Krayt Dragon bones you see in Episode II are the same ones from Episode IV. They found it still intact after all those years. Also they used tons of real sets and props and when they couldn't use sets they used miniatures. Sets aren't as important as people think. Actors especially stage actors are used to having to use their imagination when on set. The Originals were just as much about pushing the boundaries of cinematic technology and special effects. George Lucas pretty much sold the Original Trilogy on special effects. Actually the story and script of the Original Trilogy was often lambasted not just by critics, but it's own cast from Ford, Guinness and even Hamill. Without those Special Effects and John Williams score Star Wars would never have become the mega movie franchise it is today.
Star Wars Ain't Just A Movie, It's part of an American Culture, It's about the humanity of Movies of how a movie should made and I'm Proud to say that Star Wars is more than just a movie
I do enjoy the Star Wars prequels, but just not as much as I enjoy the original trilogy. Revenge of the Sith was the first Star Wars movie I ever saw on the big screen and I will never forget what a great experience it was.
+odeerg My point is simple. His art regresses as his technology increases. He says he now has all the technology he needs to make his vision true. In the original star wars, there wasn't any advance CG, just puppets, camera techniques, model building... etc. Yet the indigenous animals on Tatooine look more realistic than the cartoon computer elephant he added in the special editions. He abuses technology and doesn't know where to stop. More, and bigger is not better. Less is more. It felt like George Lucas sees a new computer software or technology and just wants to put it in his Star Wars no matter if it's needed or not. My opinion is this: Art should be simple and from the heart. Not overly complicated. Why are some films from even almost 40 years ago are better than some made in a much more advanced technological era? If you can ponder that, you get what I mean in the comment. Technology does not make art.
they're great kids movies that teach basic rules of morality and how to be a good person. if you're looking for something thats the STRONGEST in story telling etc, then probably not your thing. but jesus the level of shit that people hurl at these movies is just unbelievably ridiculous.
I think that NOW he should go back and do some of the THX 1138, American Graffiti style movies again, because I really would like to see what he's capable of outside of the Star Wars universe after all these years. Although, those movies usually don't involve CGI - err, "new technology", which he seems to have become hooked on. He needs to exercise those creative muscles which have atrophied since Return of the Jedi in 1983.
whatever happened to the guy who said 'special effects are a tool, a means of telling a story. a special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing'
The starwars original trilogy and prequel trilogy are much better than the Disney sequel trilogy cause if george Lucas is not involved or Dave filoni i don't consider them starwars movie i see the sequel trilogy more like startrek films
@12skolvikings My god. Someone who dislikes the prequels but doesn't blab on like an upset senior in a nursing home. You win the internet sir, your prize is in the mail. Seriously though, it's refreshing to see someone who dislikes the prequels react with dignity and respect to someone else's opinion. You made this youtubers day a whole lot better.
The prequels had their own identity and style, befitting of the different era. Visually and imaginatively they were a treat. The original and prequel trilogy are both so unique, unlike Disney's efforts. Would've loved to see George's ideas for a third trilogy. Going microscopic sounds, again, very unique.
I can defend Anakin Skywalker's whining in Episodes II and III with the consideration that he is a tragic hero. He's whiny because he is impatient. Look at Achilles from "The Iliad". He was also whiny and angry like Anakin was.
Ozma2112 Gary Kurtz? Went over budget on almost every film he produced and hasn't made a film since 1989. Kasdan made Dreamcatcher which is absolute shit compared to the Prequels.
But clearly he went through a lot of shit to get those made, whereas with a bigger budget and more support there's less stress. At least delegate jobs so you only worry about a few things.
I'm glad you created the prequels Lucas! They established a whole universe in the franchise! And you still kept the original structuring for the movies. Which is the main part of creating the Star Warsy feel. The OT did need a fresh reboot, and that's what you have done. We are going to enjoy Star Wars in centuries to come.
yeah the basic outline of the back story wasnt bad (besides the first one starting with a tax dispute), it was just told so awfully, and there was no development to any of the characters other than superficially in all honesty. all 3 films were so tightly focused on Anakin being this be-all-end-all being, and all the rest of the characters in them were just poorly written devices or distractions to getting him to the Darth Vader suit, for what turned out to be no real reason at all, as he wasnt seduced by the dark side, he was tricked by a vague story.
i will say, in george lucas' defence, the prequels were never going to be as emotionally gripping as the originals for the fact that they were backstory, and the element of surprise wasnt going to be there. we all knew what was going to happen, the trilogy was going to end with the Empire taking over the galaxy and Anakin's turn to Darth Vader. So the core of the story was predictable. Having said that, i never expected it to be as contrived or as bad as what we saw.
ASobsessive They could have been emotionally gripping though. Watch BelatedMedias version of Episodes 1 and 2. He's still working on his own episode 3.
What may appear to be "self-explanatory" to you is not necessarily self-explanatory to others. If someone asks for an explanation then it is obvious that it is NOT self-explanatory.
Yes you can "start a fall from grace story with a 9 year old" I know lots of kids who are good at heart but have a bad temper still need their parents to guide them, & others can be sent to a boarding school & come out just fine. Killing an entire village by people who are basically good is a common them in history. If you are raised to think of a race as no better than animals you’re going to treat them like animals. But it was a big step towards the dark side, but it was not the final step.
Creativity can be defined many ways, including the creativity of using a tool appropriately. I just think Lucas went overboard with the digital wizardry at his disposal and forgot about a good story, acting, and dialogue. Jar-Jar was just the most blatant manifestation of that.
@kurvos here's where I will RESPECTFULLY play counterpoint: - in terms of love story (and Sam Witwer's also stated this) it's NOT a love story until the sequel: It's a crush story: He's gone for YEARS without seeing a woman, so I wouldn't say it's forced for the first one. - He only GREW to be more powerful and Vader IS limited by his cybernetics, - Starkiller really is Luke had Luke been raised by Vader, so instead of bright-eyed, he's emo, but there is room to grow if one lets it.
George clearly admits not only here, but it's strongly on display here; that he cares nothing about story, but only did Star Wars, especially the prequels, for showing off technological feats. This explain how while he has a good general ideal of a saga with an interesting concept, it's so poorly written out and executed in the prequels. He really doesn't care about the story like the fans who are disappointed with prequels do. The story is only there to tie together the scenes so he can display his technology; instead of being what a movie should be, where the technology supports the story. The Star Wars prequels were nothing but a CGI jack off for Lucas. He and most of Star Wars fans have very different motives for their interest in Star Wars. That's why there's such a disconnect between what Lucas did with Star Wars and what fans wanted.
Yobachi2007 Star Wars Producer Gary Kurtz split with him for this exact reason. George Lucas only cared about the special effects. Gary Kurtz wanted to move Star Wars into more bittersweet and poignant storylines.
+Sam Gilley So you think all caps make a point, because they don't. But by proof of your comments you can't follow the point anyway. You clearly not familiar with the concept.
Lucas has already written the story for the last 3 installments. These were based on ideas he came up with when writing Episode V. But he changed his mind after he finished Episode VI. Fortunately for us loyal fans Lucas never throws anything away. But unfortunately he is not producing the movies so the screen writers and producers can change them into anything they want.
Whatever made you think that the prequel trilogy needed cutting edge technology and computer effects, George? If anything the prequels should have had a more basic and primitive look than the originals, given that they, you know... come BEFORE Luke's story! Filling the screen with gigantic CGI backdrops and monsters takes us away from the Star Wars universe and simply adds to the film's lack of realism. For us to believe the prequels came before New Hope we must at least see that the technology back then was even more basic than how it is in the originals. Talk about a royal fuck up. You managed to make a prequel trilogy look like a sequel. Congrats on that.
I'm not defending the prequels, but why would they have more primitive technology? The timeframe between the prequels and the original trilogy is not long enough to make a significant difference, and the Empire would likely have sent progression on technology into a halt. It would only make sense that common rebels and people would only have access to X-Wings and the only technological advancements would be the imperial sith-inspired weaponry.
thats because of the clone wars and because there where much more planets to show in the prequels, since they don't get shown at the time they are a part of the empire.
I grew up with the prequels, I loved them as a kid, and the originals as well. Now that I'm older and more mature, and smarter is cinema and quality filmmaking. I know see the prequel trilogy as a complete terrible mess. Terrible dialogue, boring political scenes, disappointing story, too much CGI, annoying characters, and absolutely no heart or passion. Just a quick way to make a shitzillion dollars. However not EVERYTHING in the prequels were bad. There are some thing to like. Ewan McGregor was great, Darth Maul was cool, the action scenes are entertaining, some dramatic moments in Revenge Of The Sith are actually very well done (not all, but some). One of my favorite scenes is when Anakin and Padme look out their windows, and there's no dialogue and it's just ambient music and it's very eerie and just well done. Also the music score in the prequels are just as great! John Williams did a phenomenal job with the score. But overall, a very irritating, boring, and disappointing trilogy.
Ryan Wessel The only dissapointing here is you. It's great that we can grow up and mature on our tastes and preferences in films, books, music, games, etc. But if you change your opinion based on biased reports of people that can't either direct or write well, then you're just a sheep. A sheep that blindly follows what other people say and do, and that's why you're dissapointing. Have a pleasant day sir.
(Prequels Should Never Have Been Made) I have spent over £9,000 on everything (STAR WARS) been collecting since the mid 90's I have the Blu Rays, Dvds, Original VHS, Games, Puzzles, Lego, Posters, Artwork, Cell Frames, Signed Photographs, Action Figures, Mugs, T Shirts, Props, Books, Magazines, Rare Figures, EVERYTHING Star Wars, NOW I love and grew up with the ORIGINAL SERIES of the first (3 movies) and what a MASTERPIECE they were, and I mean AMAZING. The Prequels lack EVERYTHING including bad Acting, crap story-lines, horrible characters, thousand mistakes, rushed, bad CGI, and also some of the story in the movies makes NO SENSE and burns out everything we knew from the original movies. Never the less because I'm a HARDCORE fan I still have the memorabilia and DVDs of the new movies, not to say I think they were the BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER...... its clear George Lucas had too much money and let the movies flow out of his control. I was very angry about the prequels and always will be.....and YES the new movies are going to be even worse......I 100% assure you on that. lets all just remember the first (3) movies and forget the rest.......(May the Force Be With You)
DragonsReign Return of the Jedi was no different than the Prequels. But to be fair, nothing can compare to Empire Strikes Back, let alone even a JJ Abrams homage.
DragonsReign The movies weren't made for the HARDCORE fans. THey were made for kids, just like the original ones were. Plus those who see the original series as sacrosanct are inevitably dissapointed by anything that isn't exactly the same.
Plus Lucas wanted to keep the franchise going. People keep going "Only for money." Yeah, well it was the only thing he knew how to tell to be absolutely honest.
Don't mean to knock you off your high horse but NOTHING can be worse than the prequels. I mean nothing. And the sequel trilogy looks extremely promising
Yea I always felt the same, those films really needed to be made like somebody took a camera and filmed it, then came back to earth to show it to us. Episode 1 - 3 really needed the aesthetics to take people into the Star Wars universe. No chance in the 70s and 80s.
George Lucas' six original Star Wars movies are the true wonderful cult classics masterpieces that built the legend of the Star Wars world, a magnificent, wonderful and timeless work, an indivisible whole in six wonderful parts that form the Skywalker saga, six amazing movies that shaped the lore, built the mythology, the iconic characters of the Star Wars galaxy, the Skywalker story, digital technologies revolution, the expansion of the lore, the mythology, the great exploration of peoples, environments, creatures, and expanded the open world building and expanded universe of the Star Wars world, the fabulous vision of George Lucas' imagination and creativity, and Star Wars I-VI will never be beaten.
Hang on a second +Ira ProV, are you supporting me or cutting me down? If it's the latter, I don't care if you don't think I'm intelligent and I've written BS. If you like the Prequels, fine, carry on! I'm not that intelligent, no, Lawrence Krauss is. I'm more than happy to concede that. But the Prequels stink on Hoth.
Not saying one way or the other, but my Dad told me not too long ago that Star Wars used to be my favorite movies when I was little, so long ago I don't even remember. That's not to say that they are not grown up movies. I think it might be the opposite of Pixar movie's, where they are kid's movies that also appeal to adults, and star wars is adult movies that appeal to kids. If you get what I'm saying.
I think people still have mixed feelings on the prequels, but I think they’re more positive. It’s just that a few things don’t make sense in the movies, that’s probably why they got so much hate.
Since writing that I've learned that the original film never had that in the title, so that makes sense. Give me a break, I'm 30, I was only born when Return of the Jedi came out. I think Mr Lucas should take notes from all the negative feedback he's had over the years and start heavily editing the prequels, adding a few new scenes, so that they're worthy to be counted as Star Wars films, get Ray Park to reprise his role as Darth Maul and put more of him in there instead of the boring shit.
+philipbuster12 I personally liked the prequels. I liked how large the scope of the story was with the whole galactic senate thing and the political corruption. Yeah, some of the lines were kinda weak. And some of the acting was kind of stiff. And of course Jar Jar sucked ass. But hey, at least it was a whole new story. Unlike the Force Awakens, which is pretty much just A New Hope except with a few minor character change ups and little tweaks here and there.
+Sly Cooper yep you're absolutely right. Poop jokes, fart jokes, space taxes, chinese aliens, video game action sequences, 20 minutes riding around on a peacock lizzard making walrus sounds, 6 hours of horrendous clunky dialog spoken by cardboard characters- yep, they sure are awesome
@DemiathDoomhammer Yeah, the death of Owen and Beru, the death of Kenobi, the deaths of the rebel pilots, the elation on seeing the Death Star destroyed,Han and Luke being rescued by Rogue group, the passion between Leia and Han,Han being lowered into carbonite,Lukes reaction at Vader revealing his true identity, the ending of Empire as Luke and Leia watch the Falcon depart to find Han,Han being thawed out by Bosch and it being revealed to be Leia, the death of Yoda,Vaders redemption etc.....
Well i could reply to this in a lengthy manner, but ill just say this instead: Obi-wan didnt recognize R2-D2 or C-3PO in episode IV despite spending most of his time in the prequels with them. He changed alot of the backstory that was already accepted from the original trilogy. And Jar-Jar is hated because he is a slapstick-character made for 5-year olds. And that would be ok if he was used for like 5 minutes... not the entire frikkin prequels...
These prequels could of been great if maybe they went through the same constructive and critical process the originals would of gone through, but due to his success, no body really questioned him where he should of been questioned.
The same fans that hate on the new directors hated Lucas so he was so bullied that he gave Kathleen Kennedy the responsibilty to continue the franchise.
He never said he didn't recognize R2-D2 or C-3PO. In fact if you watch closely he eyed the droids with interest even before he saw the message. Jar Jar is funny, I love slapstick and I'm over 40, So there! PS Jar Jar had a small important part in Ep2 and he did not appear again until Padma's funeral. He was only slap stick in the first movie and only obviously in the end battle. Try paying attention. PS. EP 1 is meant for 6 & up. Ep 2 is for 9 & up Ep 3 is for 12 & up. Get it now?
George seems like a pretty nice guy. I mean he never scremes at his workers when hes making a movie he created star wars But going back into film making after me made last crusade was a huge mistake.
All of the 6 movies are good. It doesn't matter to me that the Old Trilogy is better than the New one, the new trilogy provided back story. Besides, we have tons of Star Wars books that provide back stories so people really shouldn't complain.
George Lucas made the prequels so you could enjoy them as children and appreciate them as adults. That’s why I think they’re so great and intricate.
Deep down, we all hate sand.
am i the only person who liked the prequels (even if the script was a bit rough)
I did it had some Memorable moments for the Saga.
I like them
yes, you are
I thought Phantom Menace Was Just enjoyable Okay star wars Movie. Attack of the Clones sucked. Revenge of the sith is Close to being good.
But its not that of a Good star wars Movie.
Episode 1 was OK, 2 was a little better, but 3 is my favorite of all of the Star Wars movies.
Episode 1 and 2 were awful, 3 was partially ok.
Yeah I liked 3, it gets a bad rep because of the other 2 which were painful to watch, that being said though it's nowhere near as good as empire.
I came from the future and no one hates the prequels anymore. The sequels tough...
Only 40 Year old Neckbeard Manbabies still hate the prequels
No one hated the prequels when they first came out. They were loved for the most part then those but hurt fans that didn't like thme started talking shit and going on youtube when it was just starting out and starting painting a narrative and people like sheep fell for it smh.
@@bilbobaggins9451 dumbass critics and media played a role in it as well. But people are sheep and they just followed the herd of influence.
Give the sequels 20 years and they’ll be there too.
I like the Sequels and the Prequels.
Like or hate the prequels we all can agree he cared about Star Wars, respected the fans and was really creative. How did he even come up with all this? These cultures, planets and aliens.
Very true
He stole them from Dune, westerns, and Flash Gordon serials.
Theoretical you are right but I really don't like nor the prequels neither the sequels. All I really love is Star Wars as we know it!
I loved the prequels! The sequels? Not so much.
I loved the prequels. Revenge of the Sith is my second favorite Star Wars movie. Empire Strikes Back is my first.
Everyone's a film critic nowadays.
+Zoso The Outrider But not everybody is a good film critic. It's the internet, opinions will be shared.
+Zoso The Outrider Art's always been subjective
fran jaff No such thing as a good film critic. Film is subjective, apart from a handful of films which are inarguably shit.
No, but most people are moviegoers.
So you can't criticize a movie unless you get paid for it? lol
Say what you will about his lack of talent in the dialogue department (this is true for the entire saga, not just the prequels), George Lucas is still a master storyteller.
Dialogue was much better in the original trilogy.
He doesn't get enough credit for just how good his dialogue secretly is.
@@TurboTurds30 he gets the exact right amount of credit because his dialogue is honestly not genius, its not bad, but it isnt the best either

Revenge Of The Sith was fantastic, very dark, and epic.

I appreciate George Lucas for what he did! He is a unique director who is more of an avant-garde director in Hollywood (which is hard to think of). I love prequel trilogy as he explored such a vast and beautiful galaxy.
Said no one ever
Mr. Tenandstuff He and like 1 billion people did. Smartass.
Both deserved to use better technology. Modern era let to make much better SCI-FI with CGI etc. Lucas "just" brought innovation like the first time after all. Very well made.
His CGI is awful in the prequels. Jurassic Park and Lord of the Rings still would have convinced people that CGI can be good without the prequels.
Sightseeing you hate the prequels so you hate the cgi
@Sightseeing You do realise that George Lucas's company made the CGI effects on Jurassic Park, right?
Thing is now a days movies are made CGI and they praise the prequels for that.
@@sightseeing7993 oh come off it for the time the visuals are really impressive
personally I think the idea of the story with Anikan was pretty good. The way it was executed wasn't that good.
+Deathshredder58 EXACTLY.
YOU SAID IT!!!
Deathshredder58 YOU WRECKED GEORGE LUCAS MOVIES.
but seriously imagine anakin's story well executed
+Deathshredder58 Anakin's story makes no sense, Vader was never a powerful jedi/sith he was just a commander.
Dream I felt he had the presence of a powerful Sith lord or Jedi. Even if not, you could still do a good "Was good now evil" transition if he was just a commander.
Come back, George! Save us from Disney!
NOOOOOOOOOO (Darth Vader Voice)!!
You all hated everything he did from 1999-2005..
I'm glad to see positive comments on a Star Wars video.
I love Star Wars.
I liked the prequels and originals, not the farce awakens. Thanks George.
+80s baby Latino I liked all the prequels as much as the originals. The Force Awakens was pretty to look at but pretty lame otherwise. Definitely a poor plotline. And the way ep3 fits in with ep4 like a perfect puzzle piece was just masterful.
Oxcilic
very lame. it did not advance innovate or progress the series at all...
80's Born EcuaRican this "farce awakens" joke isn't funny. It was a very good film. The prequels weren't well executed at all
@40Pacino
I respect him for not apologizing. Regardless of what you think of the prequels, he made them the way he wanted, and he's happy with them.
Plus he's made millions of dollars off of them, and we're the ones paying and complaining.
It is an understatement to say that George Lucas is so much more intelligent than all of the people that hate the prequels.
Happy Birthday to the creator of Star Wars George Lucas thank you George for star wars may the force be with I absolutely love star wars
Episode III is possibly the best SW movies. Yeah I said it. Love you George.
You can say whatever you want.
Padme Amidala is my favorite character. I hate she gets scraped in 3. I do love that she helped start the rebellion but you gotta find the deleted scenes for that.
she is amazing. We will always love our queen
Whoo Lucas FTW and all of starwars is beautifully imagined every step from the movies to the games and to the cartoons
Star Wars has taught us that having technological restraints to push against and overcome through other means was a very good thing.
"You either die a hero,or you live long enough to see yourself become villain.."
Or to be a fucktard who posts shit like that on YT.

Thanks for reading my little rant!😄
dude it was a year since I posted this. people are free to have opinions. I'm sorry ok?
The prequels sucked.
The story writing was terrible
Real Star Wars fans enjoy Star Wars the way they want to.
Leo Aguilar nope . I enjoyed them and a lot of other fans do.
"Uh I always wanted to do this as one movie, and now you can view these films 1-6 as one long film about the story arc of darth vadar." George on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays.
yeah it rhymes
guess its good i never saw 4,5 and 6 but grew up with the prequels, i rather enjoyed them all and never really saw problems, a lot of people complain about jar jar and thats like all they have to say, yea he was a bit annoying, but it didnt ruin anything.
the dialogue is cheesier than the originals, the mis casting of anakin both child and jedi, the killing of darth maul, Midi-chlorians, yoda killing droids which is against his philosophy in the original trilogy, also its mostly politics not adventure or spectacular landscapes like the first three.
It's not just jar jar that ruined the prequels. But if you watch the original Star Wars trilogy you'd probably understand why the prequels did not live up to their predecessor.
Ricziden yea i have all of the movies 1-6 on a hd, i just gotta get around to watchin em.
I think that Clone War Cartoon is WAY BETTER Than the Prequel Movies.
TCW Anakin >>>>>>>>>>>>> Movie Anakin
Ahsoka Tano >>>>>>>>>>>>> Jar Jar Binks
For your fucking opinion!!!!
I admit it. I'm from that crowd who is a bigger fan of the Special Editions than the originals, and I am Pro The Prequels. I think Lucas has made all the right moves despite what others will say.
i am so glad that you made the prequels George Lucas
Thank you !!! The Prequels are awesome
thank you george
@TheDevineBeing
Weta made the props and a fair amount of the CGI creatures, ILM was the one who broought in the Landscape of Pandora, the bioluminescent jungle, and the shit ton of trees they had to get done for the movie. They also handled a lot of the vehicles.
@DemiathDoomhammer
I loved Episode III, I actually have no problems with it at all. It also has some of the "best" dialogue Lucas has ever written, not saying much, but it's something.
But my point is the same that Lucas stated in an interview. He pointed out that Hitler did not start out evil, he became evil with his lust for power.
I don't care if the Disney version is successful. I will not consider it cannon.
Dumbest comment ever
we will, cause TFA is actually a fun movie about friends, adventure and epic. A lot like the orginial trilogy.
It's a sci-fi adventure. It's a knockback to the old 1930's weekend sci-fi serials. Especially Flash Gordon. Kids.
Apparently technology and effects were the main focal point for the prequels. "Don't be too proud of this technological terror you constructed. The ability to fill a screen with load of cgi action is insignificant next to the power of a good story and shooting on locations."
+Green Pulsar again... It doesn't matter. You need a good script, and set locations helps the actor know wtf they are doing...
+numkie yeah, thats why there arent any good actors on theater
+Green Pulsar Indeed. Best game so far. And all SW movies are great!
numkie
You do realize they traveled to locations all over the world from Spain, Italy, and even Tunisia.

I do enjoy the Star Wars prequels, but just not as much as I enjoy the original trilogy. Revenge of the Sith was the first Star Wars movie I ever saw on the big screen and I will never forget what a great experience it was.
"All art is technology." - George Lucas
"This is why you fail." - Yoda
+GooseHinson And people who oppose the progress of technology like luddites and stick to the status quo for fear of anything new, always lose.
out of context, that's not what he meant.

they're great kids movies that teach basic rules of morality and how to be a good person. if you're looking for something thats the STRONGEST in story telling etc, then probably not your thing. but jesus the level of shit that people hurl at these movies is just unbelievably ridiculous.
It only took 3 shitty sequels for us to appreciate George Lucas and the prequels.
No. People have always loved the Prequels before Disney bought Stsr Wars. You're just realizing that now.
My favorite thing about the prequels is all the interesting designs and of course the music. And the acting isn't that bad either.

Four words: Gary Kurtz, Lawrence Kasden. I'm still angry they weren't involved.
Ozma2112 Gary Kurtz? Went over budget on almost every film he produced and hasn't made a film since 1989. Kasdan made Dreamcatcher which is absolute shit compared to the Prequels.
+amaxamon prequels are shit compared to shitty dream catcher.
I would have been (and still am) interested in what else he is capable of outside of Star Wars or big, action-driven CGI stuff.
'... less stressful than directing a movie'
You only directed the 1977 film. What are you talking about?
I believe he's referring to other movies he directed besides 'A New Hope' like THX 1138 or American Graffiti.
But clearly he went through a lot of shit to get those made, whereas with a bigger budget and more support there's less stress. At least delegate jobs so you only worry about a few things.
Hmm yeah, I see what you mean, that may well be true.
Watch the empire of dreams documentary. Making a new hope was very stressful and George was definitely stressed and fed up with it.
I'm glad you created the prequels Lucas! They established a whole universe in the franchise! And you still kept the original structuring for the movies. Which is the main part of creating the Star Warsy feel. The OT did need a fresh reboot, and that's what you have done. We are going to enjoy Star Wars in centuries to come.
the star wars prequels are good i mean ya there is jar jar but George wrote a good story he just didn't tell it well.
yeah the basic outline of the back story wasnt bad (besides the first one starting with a tax dispute), it was just told so awfully, and there was no development to any of the characters other than superficially in all honesty. all 3 films were so tightly focused on Anakin being this be-all-end-all being, and all the rest of the characters in them were just poorly written devices or distractions to getting him to the Darth Vader suit, for what turned out to be no real reason at all, as he wasnt seduced by the dark side, he was tricked by a vague story.
i will say, in george lucas' defence, the prequels were never going to be as emotionally gripping as the originals for the fact that they were backstory, and the element of surprise wasnt going to be there.
we all knew what was going to happen, the trilogy was going to end with the Empire taking over the galaxy and Anakin's turn to Darth Vader.
George, sir, your writing lacks the maturity that you should have had.
You demented brat.
Hey, Larry, you too old for that.
Fuck you Khultan!
1. The Empire strikes back. 2. A new hope. 3. Revenge of the sith. 4. Return of the Jedi. 5. Attack of the clones. 6. The phantom menace
I agree with your order. People don't give Revenge of the Sith enough credit, its actually a really good movie.
Attack of the clones is god awful. I'd rather watch Phantom menace for its cardboard acting all around vs Anakin and Padmes cringe-mance
Creativity can be defined many ways, including the creativity of using a tool appropriately. I just think Lucas went overboard with the digital wizardry at his disposal and forgot about a good story, acting, and dialogue. Jar-Jar was just the most blatant manifestation of that.
The real GL died in the 80's,This one is just a sellout that make dreadful movies so he can sell toys
MrEzioBR ewoks aswell so before 80s
ROTJ was released on 83, and ESB was released on 80, the last serious film he made
MrEzioBR He kept Han Solo alive actually so he could sell toys of him so that's not accurate.
Jeff Mackey He made that decision on ROTJ, so what I said is accurate

@kurvos here's where I will RESPECTFULLY play counterpoint:
- in terms of love story (and Sam Witwer's also stated this) it's NOT a love story until the sequel: It's a crush story: He's gone for YEARS without seeing a woman, so I wouldn't say it's forced for the first one.
- He only GREW to be more powerful and Vader IS limited by his cybernetics,
- Starkiller really is Luke had Luke been raised by Vader, so instead of bright-eyed, he's emo, but there is room to grow if one lets it.
Yobachi2007
Star Wars Producer Gary Kurtz split with him for this exact reason. George Lucas only cared about the special effects. Gary Kurtz wanted to move Star Wars into more bittersweet and poignant storylines.
Right. He cares NOTHING about the story...it's not as if HE FREAKING CREATED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE...he clearly didn't care.
+Sam Gilley So you think all caps make a point, because they don't.
But by proof of your comments you can't follow the point anyway. You clearly not familiar with the concept.
Yobachi2007 where does he admit that ? That's horseshit.
Damn, this was before he sold SW
It would only make sense that common rebels and people would only have access to X-Wings and the only technological advancements would be the imperial sith-inspired weaponry.
how was europe after the fall off the rome? Not that much more technology they even lost technology
+FocusReborn I believe the fall of the Jedi order was a major setback, just my thoughts
#2MONTHLATEREPLY
thats because of the clone wars and because there where much more planets to show in the prequels, since they don't get shown at the time they are a part of the empire.
TheProject your hatred towards the prequels blinds you from realising why CGI was needed, says Yoda
And thankfully he did them. The best fantasy movies of modern cinema.
I think the main thing to consider is how many scenes take place on couches.
(Prequels Should Never Have Been Made)
I have spent over £9,000 on everything (STAR WARS) been collecting since the mid 90's I have the Blu Rays, Dvds, Original VHS, Games, Puzzles, Lego, Posters, Artwork, Cell Frames, Signed Photographs, Action Figures, Mugs, T Shirts, Props, Books, Magazines, Rare Figures, EVERYTHING Star Wars, NOW I love and grew up with the ORIGINAL SERIES of the first (3 movies) and what a MASTERPIECE they were, and I mean AMAZING.
DragonsReign Your missing out stupid...you better loosen up those uptight ass cheeks, you tight ass...you missing out HA HA HA
Thank god technology was not good enough between 1977-1983, George Lucas would've ruined those amazing three films
And they sucked.
"How wude!"
No, they didn't suck!
No they didn't
Robert Bermudez Not in my opinion. They were Awesome!
He should have done something else! What a waste of everyone's time.
I think people still have mixed feelings on the prequels, but I think they’re more positive. It’s just that a few things don’t make sense in the movies, that’s probably why they got so much hate.

I think all the prequels sucked except for Episode 3.
+m0nstaLulz NOOOOOOOO!!!
All two of them? Lol
The prequels sucked, except Darth Maul.
Padmé was a good character and so was qui gon
+Camden Mason hahaha padme was a good character. she was a slab of wood
+John Doe A plinkettite
Well i could reply to this in a lengthy manner, but ill just say this instead:
Obi-wan didnt recognize R2-D2 or C-3PO in episode IV despite spending most of his time in the prequels with them.
I want this guy again toSAVE STAR WARS PLEASE GEORGE UR OUR ONLY HOPE!
The same fans that hate on the new directors hated Lucas so he was so bullied that he gave Kathleen Kennedy the responsibilty to continue the franchise.
@@darkwolf4434 Yeah the fans who hated prequels, are the morons who destroys the star wars saga
I mean he never scremes at his workers when hes making a movie
he created star wars
But going back into film making after me made last crusade was a huge mistake.
All of the 6 movies are good. It doesn't matter to me that the Old Trilogy is better than the New one, the new trilogy provided back story. Besides, we have tons of Star Wars books that provide back stories so people really shouldn't complain.
Were the original three films named episode 4, 5 and 6 when they were first released?
I don’t know but knowing that the prequels came out after the original trilogy fucks me up a lot I get so confused about the order they go in
I'd like to know what exactly "couldnt be done" for the tech constraints
Huge worlds that could be brought to life only with CGI and bright lit cgi characters.
