This is a song I finished about 6 weeks ago but it took awhile to find time to make a video. I really appreciate anyone taking the time to check out any of these original songs. I know what it’s like listening to songs for the first time but I’m really fascinated with song writing and I think it’s by far, the coolest pursuit in music. I love playing and want to learn practically every instrument I see someone jamming on but I think there is not much cooler than a great song that changes how you feel.
I’m 13 years old and I’d love to get to make music for the rest of my life. I’ve recently written a group of songs that I’m recording right now that all came together faster than any others and they seem to fit together. I’m really not sure how I might keep up with videos when I’m recording songs at the current rate but it’s my hope that I can learn to be a song writer in the same way I’ve learned other instruments. Getting feedback, both good and bad, encouragement and motivation from those of you that follow my work is truly priceless. Thank you so much!

That Door , is where She walked out... Years ago. That is a very powerful and Haunting opening line , it drew Me in right away , opened up memories in My life that I normally choose to forget. Your song is Beautiful and sad , music and art should make You feel something , and Your Song does just that. So once again I got Bitch Slapped by Your Brilliance.

Mia Morris this was deep and powerful, not something you would expect from someone your age. This song grabbed me by the shoulders and said HEY! listen to this. I absolutely loved this. 👍

Wow, Mia. You just sent me back down memory lane. No, I don't mean the lyrics or the music, but that 'door' in the video is only a block away from an old Carriage House I used to work in. Head down the hill from that 'door', pass under the train bridge and the old Carriage House is on the corner of 8th Ave. S and Drexel on this same side of the street. I worked on the second floor writing software, learning computer networking, learning how to build personal computers, and watching the South Central Bell tower (now AT&T batman looking building) and Arena being built from beginning to end. This was in the first half of the 1990's. I used to drive under that bridge almost every day and several times walked under it to go eat at the 'meat and three' restaurant across the street from this 'door'. Thank you for that trip down memory lane.
I don't like to ask personal questions, so don't feel like you have to answer it, but what was your motivation or inspiration for writing this song? I do know about all the homeless people in this area of Nashville and one of the buildings on this side of the street used to be a soup kitchen, maybe even this building with the 'door'.

If I was very worried about personal question, I don't think I'd post videos and I don't think I'd ever learn to be a good song writer. I actually read a story about homelessness and I sort of built the story of the song in reverse. You are right on about this location and you know the area better than me. I come around here a lot and thought the train and the setting fit with the song when it was finally done and playing back in my ears. Thank you for your encouragement and for giving my songs your time. I will keep working at getting better.
It's amazing how advanced and mature you are for your age, giving you the ability to write music way beyond your generation. I'm very impressed with everything you put out to the world. That is absolutely my favorite part. That little girl walked up there on her own and we told her mom it was fine, then she proceeded to imitate what she was seeing. When I got home to look at the take, it brought tears to my eyes. We only did one take because people were waiting to take selfies and it was just completely spontaneous... and awesome :)

Awesome stuff, Mia! My 10 year old daughter is also a drummer and we love your videos! You should do a cover of The Beatles “Rain”; it’s Ringo’s best drumming with The Beatles imo. It’s funky.
Thank you for checking this out and it is awesome to hear your daughter has an interest in music and especially in drums :) I love the Beatles. I've played a game with my dad for as long as I can remember. If a Beatles song comes on the radio, it's not a question if I know who the band is - the game is to pick if it's John, Paul, George or Ringo singing at any given time. I really make him smile on something like Srgt. Pepper or The End when I can go along and keep up with whoever is singing lead as it changes... and don't forget back-ups. I've gotten to where I recognize their accents in addition to their styles.

Thank you for the input and I think it's a good idea. I have to make myself push ahead with a lot of those decisions so I don't get too slow with everything but I think you might get what you're looking for with the next group of songs. They took a strange turn and were actually the reason I hunted down that acoustic kit. Who knows how long it will take to get them to a video but they are all rock songs in my head with more imperfection and aggression. They sometime change a lot along the way but it's along the lines of your suggestion...

One of my favorite things to do is read through the comments: a) to see all the positive feedback; and b) to see how much you appreciate it. I watched your song/video - and I thought it was wonderful. Wasn't sure if I would like what you were going to do with your original work, being a mostly hard rock fan. I can honestly say - I enjoyed it, and it's quite obvious you are multi-talented. Your parents must be so proud - not just of what you are able to do musically, but how you handle yourself. Thank you for giving it a try. I'm really all over the place with my, "style' when it comes to writing. I really like a lot of heavier stuff too but then I fall in love with a Lumineers or Brandi Carlile song or get on a Beatles kick... So the style, thing is really confusing to me at this point. I've tried just adding parts as I go and see how it turns out so far and my voice is a whole different thing. It sounds young and I'm pretty sure I can't practice that away... so my songs get a certain sound automatically. Anyway, I'll stop boring you with the details.. here's the exciting thing I wanted to say. About 2 or 3 weeks ago, I wrote more songs, all at once, more easily than anything I've ever done and they all seemed to be in the same sort of style. I wrote them all on guitar, (I've tried practically everything to write on) - AND they all sound a little more rock/power pop/grunge/rockabillyish to me. Sooo - I'm pretty excited. That's why I talked my dad into getting a used acoustic kit. I think they would sound perfect with less perfection.
I should probably warn you that I think every song is great until it's done... The other problem is I don't know how I can make videos for songs when I write 4 at a time... so who knows what or when they might be able to be actually heard. BUT - I may be on to something... Thank you for your support!

Hi Mia. I just discovered this song of yours and I couldn't but notice the imagery you chose for this song. First of all, the overall tone is a bit sad. The loss of a relationship that can no longer exist. The loneliness of of the void its left on the person. I find it real interesting that you depicted a lot of the homeless to depict the emotion of your song. I don't know if that's intentional, but it does fit, and the musical arrangement and sound fits the mood as well. Even you look a bit sad in the way you deliver the song. But you sound also as if your trying to console yourself and at the same time to find the strength to move forward. It's a heavy sentiment for a 13 year old I gotta say, I couldn't have done it at that age ! Props and great effort on your part to push yourself to grow at such a young age Mia. Glad you still have it posted. : )

Actually, I've got a group of 4 or maybe 5 that I've just written that sound very rock to me - we'll see how they end up. Another thought.. When I said you have to train your ear. I meant listen to everything You like or not. Now why, if you use earbuds headphones doesn’t matter.. What should happen with your talent is you will be able to breakdown the.music by tracks. Basically pulling the song apart. It gets easier the more you listen. Understand what I mean? 🤘

Beautiful stuff Mia. Best advice I can give you is keep writing, keep playing and keep learning. Music is a gift and the best way to acknowledge that gift is to use it. "Making it" in the music business can be completely subjective to who is listening at any given time, but if you love creating and playing everything else is just the cherry on top.

Thank you for listening and for this comment. I totally get what you are saying about making it. Right now, it's completely natural to find all the satisfaction I can imagine in just creating. If I'm being honest with myself, I do daydream about getting to make music for my job which is where the business gets sketchy... It's easy for me to stay focused on just getting better right now because I've got so much to learn and I hope the rest of my daydream takes care of itself along the way.

They are a little more rock than this one but I'm beginning to maybe feel like they have some direction. Hey Mia, I was moved by this piece of work. At your age I was writing about cars and girls, lol. You are such a mature soul. Continue to let your light shine. Some advice if I may. Be in this for the love, all other reasons will fail you. Be smart but let love be your guide. Again, wonderful song. Okay, I cried a bit, but don't tell anyone, haha.
