Nick I would get rid of the fake plant but add a lot of leaf litter, Indian Almond leaves, Oak leaves and the like. They need lots of tannen in the water and the leaves will help with that as well as give it the proper environment to trully feel safe and comfortable. As the tank is I would only give it a 4 max 5. Also for the next time you want to add driftwood to a tank get a trashcan, completely clean and disinfected, and soak if long before you add it. It should already be waterlogged and not floating before you add it to a tank.
But you need to change your leaves from time to time. And I'm not sure if tannins are going to help, because I tried that, but my turtle's still rotting.
The setup is already amazing but adding live plants would bring it to another level! Epiphyte Plants like Anubias and some easy rooted plants like wisteria would really make it look more like a natural environment
If possible, get rid of the fake plants and put in leaf litter, especially on the bottom of the tank. The reason matamata turtles look like that is because it camouflages themselves from their prey. They pretend to be leaves on the bottom of the rivers they inhabit in order to catch quick, little fish. Giving him nothing but bright sand makes him stand out like a sore thumb
Hello, I have a question: is an LED lamp absolutely necessary in a water turtle aquarium? Not talking about the UVB lamp but to cycle the water, because I have brown algae that have appeared since the impoundment of his new aqua and it's impossible to get rid of it.. the aqua is not directly under sunlight for your information Thanks in advance !
Hi I have no idea if you will see this but here goes , I rescued a beautiful red eared slider about 6 inches in size she was not in too bad a shape but came with a bunch of her habitat bits and peace’s one of them is the same large filter rock you put in you tank . Now my question is do you have any idea where a replacement internal filter pump could be found this one has no way of being a filter with out the inside pump ? I have enjoyed your videos and they have helped me with a number of questions so thank you Take care. Jacquie
id give it a solid 8 because its really cool but to make it a 10/10 add like a few live plante i love your vids watch them all every single day you upload keep up the good work mate
It’s a actually bad tank. It’s not filled to the top which is vital for turtles. Also, just because it’s from a “turtle kit” doesn’t mean that it’s sustainable for one. A turtle that can grow large should have at least 70-100ish gallons (in a wide tank.) It’s definitely an upgrade and nice looking though.
@@smashbrosguyt915 but one thing your not realizing is he keeps upgrading the enclosure as the turtle keeps growing its temporary for now I’m sure one day he will go in the big pond in the back yard he’s still small yet though
@@mattbrownvideos4988 It’s always (mostly) better to have them in a tank that they will grow in as to reduce stress. Also, not sure if he’s going to release it to the backyard pond or not considering how exotic it is. If he does though I’d be fine with that has the pond has a nice ecosystem.
I’d give it a 6/10 add some live plants. You can get leaves on Amazon for like 5 bucks and put the, in the tank for him to hide in other than that it’s a cool tank.

Hey Nick! Awesome video! I wanted to let you know about a channel that’s looking to rehome their Blue Cod. The fish happens to be the blue cod from Predatory Fins. It was given to them as a gift from the person Rod gave some of his large groupers to when he left for NY. The channel is called “Barbs Buzzin (The Fish Guys)”. Hope you can check it out cause I think it’d make a great addition to the pond! Anyways, great video and hope you have a great day man 😁
I honestly love them type of filters for animals that do not need deep fast flowing water. I have java moss growing on mine though. It's only growing cuz I made a fence of sorts, so my turtle can't just eat all, or rip off the filter so easy. The goal is for her to snack on it if she wants to, and to put small pond snails in there as well for her hunt down and snack on.

What if we do 6000 gallon freshwater pond? And we get mini freshwater pond? That would be epic

Good bacteria doesn't live in the water, it lives on surfaces such as the sand and in the filter.
U r correct in that bacteria lives on surfaces such as sand and filter but it also lives in the water to
@@Gallantcailyn sorry but it doesn't
@@brazzr maybe not in freshwater but in saltwater yes.

My point is that maybe you can step up your lighting, because brown algae seem to prefer places where the light isn't as strong.
You should add your bamboo shark to your large saltwater pond
You should eventually get a 55 gallon lowboy since it has a shallow water lwvel but a huge sudrace area
