1 hour ago I knew norhing about this species of turtle. You are providing a grand service educating the public about the wonderful world of turtles/tortoises!
Chris the most interesting part of this was your attention to detail on the set-up for this Turtle..absolutely agree 100% keep it as natural as possible.well done sir
As much as I like turtles, I certainly would hate to meet up with this turtle in a dark alley. Its intriguing, but I would have to say, "Only it's Mother could love that mug."
@@Astro_touches_children Whether it's mother cared for it or not, the Mata Mata had a mother and never seeing it herself, she would be shocked. Just my Sunday morning sillys. Have a Blessed day sir.
Kenan (Kamp Kenan) has a Mata-Mata in one of his ponds and I’ve always been fascinated by it. I think their camouflage is second to none and I also think they’re beautiful. An unusual opinion, I know but I really love what Evolution By Natural Selection does. 🐢❤️🐢
Mata Mata are my favourite turts 🥰 they're like leaf/dragon/turtles and are so beautiful and fascinating. Their permanent smile expression makes me so happy 🥰
I love Mata-Mata, I had a book on animals for children in '80 with the chapter on this particular species.. It was probably the first turtle I got to know about❤️. I admire what you are doing guys along with Kamp Kenan and few others, great inspiration for reptiles conservation programs.
I've seen these turtles before but I learned so much more about them in this video! Given that you have lots of breeding projects going on, are there any plans to breed this species when Jata is adult size?
Love everything that y'all do, and it's so amazing to see all of the great enclosures and outdoor setups! If ok to say, just be careful with rosey reds and fathead minnows, as they both contain thiaminase just like goldfish do.
Is your nature room in a converted garage? I noticed the pathway and rocks and thought that was a really cool. That set up was awesome, I love all the animals/reptiles and bugs that mimic nature! Those are my favorite kind because they blend in so well you could be staring right at it and dont even know it! She was really interesting to learn about, thanks for sharing this!
I THOUGHT that might have been what was in your recent “what is it?” Quick clip the other day. They have the BEST camouflage ever, and I have long been fascinated by the species. Congratulations on adding Jada to your critters.🖤🇨🇦
I was referring to the intro before I watched the whole video. I thought the alligator snapping turtle was the ugliest looking of all turtles, but this one is the winner! I meant "ugly" per human-eyes standard. 😜 IN MY HEART THEY ARE NOT UGLY AT ALL. I love watching turtles. I love your videos. Mabuhay! 🇵🇭
I thought it was cool when you mentioned that “one of the VP meanings of the word Jada is tangled/matted” and I wanted to mention that coincidentally the word “Jada” means Girl in Haida (the language of the natives of Haida Gwaii also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands!
Great video Chris and Casey! Do you have any thoughts to try to breed this species? I've heard that it's extremely difficult, but I also have seen some USA CBB being offered by Jay Frewer.
Thanks Tom! Hard to say really. Everyone claims it’s impossible but yes I see that Jay is offering CB. I don’t have enough background with matas to make any claims but I guess anything is possible!
I love turtles - all kinds of turtles (and tortoises). But, that thing's got a face only its mother could love.......... Thanks for the education on this type, Chris.
Oh my goodness that looks like a dragon that don’t look like a turtle although I can tell it is but I wouldn’t have known it unless you have told us and showed us they are amazing😳💕
Only Chris could love such an ugly turtle! LOL Very educational video as I've never seen a Mata Mata except in pictures. Hope she/he loves the enclosure. Always amazed as to the effort you guys put into creating their habitats. One question: what do you do in the winter if you have a power outage for more than a couple of hours? Do you have a backup generator? (Also loved everyone's comments)
🤣🤣 We are well prepared with multiple generators in case that happens. Lucky for us south jersey winters aren’t harsh for long and even on the coldest nights the building doesn’t get near freezing with everything turned off.
@@GardenStateTortoise I think the largest freshwater turtle is in India.another weird one is the one where it wraps it's head to the side in it's shell
Is that wild caught? Can they be captive bred? Also I hope it does not drown in that tank. They are really poor swimmers and need to climb up the banks to get air..might be difficult for it to balance and climb on the branches.
ever since first seeing one of these earlier this year i been wanting one. but i realize the setup and so on is more than i can handle. neither of us would be happy. still my family have a nice pond be cool to get a few set free in there. but i afradit the snappers would kill them.... Edit, wow that pretty warm water temps. yea def cant do the pond idea then. fresh underground water def not freezing but i guess it sticks around 60*... seems to be to cold sadly. well good to know

I didn't either

Beautiful turtle and love the setup! Keep up the great work GST family 😍 can’t wait to see you in the Snake Discovery enclosure build off
Thank you!!

Haha definitely! Such an incredible animal, though.
Awesome habitat! Your habitats always are so amazing 👏 😍
Thank you Sierra!
How neat! What a great addition! This is going to be fun watching and learning about the Mata -Mata.
❤️💜💚
Thanks Paige!
What an extraordinary example! Such an amazing and unique turtle, one of my favorites! And what an awesome setup!
Thanks Mike!
That innocent, sweet smile....surprise! Jada is beautifully made to suit her environment.
Thank you for the donation! It's a lovely container!

Does the blackwater share any similarity to tannins?
So happy y'all got a matamata, especially with such a dope (and visible) enclosure. They are my favorite species of turtle!
Awesome and thank you!
Also, have you guys though about making a Discord? Might be a really cool community! Congratulations, you guys are flying towards 100k!!!
😮💗 this is incredible! Thanks for sharing so much about this wonderful turtle! Never knew it existed! She really looks like a little Kaiju!

Wow that is a cool looking turtle absolutely beautiful🥰💕

Thanks Jim!
I had to slo mo at 0.25x to make sure it ate the fish but I couldn't tell if it did. It was way to quick!!

Are the lights uvb?
I loooove mata mata turtles!!! I'm so happy you have one now 😁😁😁🥰
Thanks!
I saw a short on one of these and had to find a full video. I'm still trying to figure out where it's eyes are.
one type of turtle that is aggressive, cool
WOW! amazing looking animal! almost alien like. great video
So excited for the build off!
Do you still have her?
Thank you for teaching us about this amazing species of turtle. So cool!
There’s a huge one of these in a small, bare tank at a local fish store where I live. It’s so sad.
Never seen this before in my life but I love it, sorta like those soft shelled turtles with the cute noses
So in love with this species!😍
"Weird, but cool weird." Best definition of a Mata Mata I've heard!
Thanks Jay!
I had no idea this turtle species existed. I feel the prehistoric!
Didnt know about the snorkel nose. Cool.

Amazing..I've never heard or seen anything like her and I love turtles
The Mata Mata reminds me of some of the fungus that clings to rotting logs here in western Washington!
Wow, I bet certainly resembles it!
Tiene un camuflaje espectacular
Parece una pedazo de tronco o una hoja seca en el fondo del lago
That is amazing evolution 👏 🐢
Fantastic habitat!
i never heard of this turtle and yes strange interesting wonderful education i enjoy your educational series😊
What about keeping this spiecies with other turtles?
Do mata matas bite?
What the shell is that?!? Wow!!! I've never seen anything like this. Looks like a Mass Effect alien 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I think that is the strangest but coolest thing I have ever seen xxxx
Your background music journey is so interesting … I say rock music !!
Wtf that is so weird I have never seen a turtle look like that before.
Can you keep different species of Mediterranean tortoises together. Like for example a Russian and Herrman's
He's getting a little 'wiggley', I think she wants you put her down, lol.
Turtle ? Ah....
Great Tank and Turtle
Thank you!
Cool turtles so well blended with the environment it lives in awsome 💚 java
Wow, that’s the funkiest looking turtle I’ve ever seen, where are the eyes on it?
Mata is good, interesting. But it is Otis with whom I am infatuated.
A Mata Mata is my dream animal, they are so cool.
Awesome. Definitely amazing to experience them!
it's a water puppy

Thanks Tim. They really are bizarre.

When you first showed the tank it looked like a dog was in it as well it wasJust a reflection but spooky
Definitely strange looking
I need a tank like that
very cool look but very stinky after several fish😅
