    Welcome to my official Sid Meier's Civilization V (Civ 5) UA-cam Tutorial Series! Founded in 2016 and revitalized in 2021! Civ 5 is perhaps one of the best 4x strategy games of all time. This series will cover over civ v tips and tricks for beginners as I guide you through how to settle a city, what cultural policies to choose, how to tech up fast, how to take cities, win wars, defend your lands, negotiate peace, take to the seas and much more!
    About the game:
    Sid Meier's Civilization V is a 4X video game in the Civilization series developed by Firaxis Games. The game was released on Microsoft Windows in September 2010,[3] on OS X on November 23, 2010, and on Linux on June 10, 2014.
    In Civilization V, the player leads a civilization from prehistoric times into the future on a procedurally generated map, attempting to achieve one of a number of different victory conditions through research, exploration, diplomacy, expansion, economic development, government and military conquest. The game is based on an entirely new game engine with hexagonal tiles instead of the square tiles of earlier games in the series.[5] Many elements from Civilization IV and its expansion packs have been removed or changed, such as religion and espionage (although these were reintroduced in its subsequent expansions). The combat system has been overhauled, by removing stacking of military units and enabling cities to defend themselves by firing directly on nearby enemies.[6] In addition, the maps contain computer-controlled city-states and non-player characters that are available for trade, diplomacy and conquest. A civilization's borders also expand one tile at a time, favoring more productive tiles,[7] and roads now have a maintenance cost, making them much less common.[8] The game features community, modding, and multiplayer elements.[5] It is available for download on Steam.
    Its first expansion pack, Civilization V: Gods & Kings, was released on June 19, 2012, in North America and June 22 internationally. It includes features such as religion, espionage, enhanced naval combat and combat AI, as well as nine new civilizations.[9]
    A second expansion pack, Civilization V: Brave New World, was announced on March 15, 2013. It includes features such as international trade routes, a world congress, tourism, great works, as well as nine new civilizations, eight additional wonders, and three ideologies. It was released on July 9, 2013, in North America and in the rest of the world three days later.

    Clearly the most important tech to research is the Internet. It allows you to watch UA-cam tutorials like these, which will improve your performance on ALL future Civ 5 games!

    This is obviously the best "ideal" path and I cant argue with that..... but there are times you may need to get a some techs earlier than you normally would
    1. Sailing/Optics: If you are playing in a non pangea/all land map and need water access to meet other civs, city-states and potentially locate natural wonders & ruins you may need to get these earlier than normal. Even on a pangea map you may not have easy access for your scouts to move around the map so embarkment may be needed. Besides, getting the extra trade route from sailing alone is really beneficial early game.
    2. Construction: If you are having major barbarian issues or another civ near you is being aggressive you may really need composite bowmen earlier than you normally would just to defend yourself adequately.

    I been having a hard time getting ahead even in king difficulty. I used to go mining>pot>writing. I've switched up to pot>mine>writing on a whim and shifting my priority to food earlier and its been a breeze.

    I was concerned about my tech lineup for a while, because I was prioritizing culture. Turns out I was accidentally prioritizing science right along with it….

    for late game culture victory, i like to grab computers so i can snag the great firewall. the tourism boost from the internet can be so huge, i gotta go out it my way to counterpick. sucks that the internet and computers are literally on opposite ends of the tree.

    I recently beat the game on level 6 with spain extremely easily my sicence at the end was 1600/turn. some of the AIs didn't even get into the modern era by the time I won through cultural victory (I play on epic for 750 turns) and won at around turn 550

    You mentioned "Rationalism" - is there a social policy order that needs to work with this tech path?

    • @bryancomlor1435
      @bryancomlor1435 9 місяців тому

      You only really need to adopt Rationalism. It's not even necessary to go further in it. Take order or freedom as ideology for a science win.

    is this standard speed?
    on quick speed deity level you should generally be able to go to space between turns 170 and 185 (or sometimes around 200-s if your land is really garbage) - so usually if you play efficiently you are going to space around years 1770-1870s which is hilarious given the actual history timings

    You do not get reduced tech cost from entering the next era, not sure where you're getting that from, maybe its a pre-BNW thing? Or the reduced tech cost from other civilizations researching a tech?

    • @JumboPixel
      @JumboPixel  3 роки тому +1

      Yikes - really? I must be showing my age as an early Civ v player then! Thankfully it doesn’t take away from the rest of the video or the tech order I recommend.

    • @roughmercies1491
      @roughmercies1491 3 роки тому +1

      @@JumboPixel yeah 100%. I've only been playing since BNW so not sure if its from before then, or something else. I don't actually agree with a lot of your tech path recommendations, I think you're over prioritizing science compared to production. I think if you prioritized production higher you'd find you end up building your uni's almost as quickly but also get though all of your important buildings enabling you to get things like hermitage for more culture and a quicker rationalism, and grand temple for more faith purchased great scientists resulting in more total science by the time the game ends

    • @JumboPixel
      @JumboPixel  3 роки тому +2

      I like your analysis, and I do have a personal bias towards science - only because it’s the gateway to all other things.
      Your point about production is well taken. But, in conjunction with my other science through growth video, I still believe a high food, high science strat works in the long run. More growth = more citizens = more specialists and workable tiles (which in turn leads to better production).

    • @roughmercies1491
      @roughmercies1491 3 роки тому

      @@JumboPixel I agree food is more important than production, but we're just going to have to agree to disagree about production and science. Appreciate you not deleting the (hopefully constructive) criticism

      You do, however, unlock rationalism by entering the renaissance era, which can be very important if you are making good progress in your policies.

    • @JumboPixel

      When I set up to record the footage for these videos I sometimes use advanced settings to start games in different eras or at different speeds - allows me to ‘jump around’ eras more easily.
      In this case it’s probably the game speed (slower than usual).

    • @JumboPixel
      @JumboPixel  3 роки тому +3

      Straight away (before shrine?) - it’s not a terrible idea! But two things:
      - a very very early library doesn’t provide much science because it’s science output is tied to city population
      - the early pantheon benefits can be much stronger than a library
