I stopped watching UA-cam over the last many weeks.... since early spring. So tired of all age politics and lies and and covid and the depressing narrative. It was leaving me very upset. Anyway, a couple or three weeks ago, I needed something positive to lift my spirits. I cancelled all the news channels ... bar one or two neutral facts only ones, and a couple of bloggers, but all the gardeners I loved over the years remain. I am so very pleased I made the choices I did.. I am so happy to have watched your post this morning! It will be a beautiful fall weekend here on the Canadian prairies and I will be in my garden putting it to bed! I happen to have a number of galvanized steel planter liners from a trading site, sitting taking up space in my garage! I think I will adopt your vision and place them out in the garden and next spring they will be ready to bring new life to neglected corners. They will freeze solid over the winter! but I can overwinter some plants in an in ground pond, or the garage! Thank you for the inspiration and just for being good for my spirits.
Blimey it’s you!! WOW I used to watch your channel regularly years ago but then for some reason YT stopped showing me when you upload and I haven’t seen one in what seems an eternity. Anyhoo this has just showed up whilst I was watching something totally unrelated (yea good job UA-cam) so here I am again after all this time. Great video, love the pond. PS if you want some power down there you should have a look into the EcoFlow or Bluetti LiFePO4 battery systems. You could stick a 200w solar panel on your shed roof and then just hook up to the solar battery and you would have pretty much unlimited 240v and 12v power for anything you need such as bubblers, pumps, lights, even boiling an electric kettle for a brew.
Love this! I have a passion for plants and ponds. Besides several ponds and a bathtub pond outdoors, I have a pitcher plant indoors and I think I will try planting it in lava rock as you have done to give it more hydration. Currently I have it sitting in a plate of pebbles with water but this is a wonderfl idea! Thank you for sharing.
Lovely concept thank you for sharing I am across the pond in the USA . I am setting up my first patio pond. I have three bog garden housing all carnivorous plants each spring the blooms are amazing. 😚⛲🌿🌿🌿
That’s really cool, I might try something like that next year. Looking forward to seeing what type of fish you put in. As a kid, I was always fascinated by looking at pond life through a microscope, as an old guy now, I always think about taking up that hobby again. This would be a great source for microscopic critters.
Hey , just come across your channel now , laid up with injured ankle ,just as soon as I bout my own first plastic greenhouse .....typical lol. Looking forward to seen your videos and watching . I'm in South east Ireland so only across the pond.
Wonderful project Katrina and a brilliant piece of inspiration for anyone building a smaller type of water feature. The textbooks would have us believe a pond shouldn't be any smaller than 2x3 metres . Portable too when drained down enough to lift and keep the fish alive.
i'm going to use this for botanical reference! although my pond would be home to several mollies. and i'd be using a solar submersible pump, not an aerator, for water surface agitation. much gratitude from the Philippines
Your pond looks gorgeous 👍 Inspired by your wildlife pond I've build one pond as well. Once you have one, you get addicted to it 😂 Now I have two ponds and another plant is sitting in a rain barrel and waiting for the third pond. This Sagittaria sagitttifolia is so beautiful 🤗 I think it would fit very nicely in there 😉
Thank you, however I’m cautious about using it as the carnivorous plants probably wouldn’t like that. They really do need rain water only, fussy things 😆
That looks really nice with a generous plant selection - you have built it beautifully. I am a bit concerned about having fish in it. It is quite small for most fish which can grow quite big, also much of that space is taken with rocks and bricks etc. I imagine it would get very hot in the summer and cold in the winter because it is above ground and made of metal. Perhaps that is worth checking out with a fish expert.
I’ve done my research and the fish I plan to grow only reach 3cm in length and much like the goldfish survive winters. The tank is in shade most of the day and I’m currently keeping a close eye on the temps of the water. If we have a harsh winter (doesn’t happen much anymore) I can easily move the tank into the polytunnel.
What a cool project! I would not dream of doing something like this, but you might have inspired me to give it a go... I need to find a spot for it first 😅
Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada. I am originally from the Island of Newfoundland on Canada's east coast, where the pitcher plant is the Provincial Flower...I remember seeing these alot in boggy areas. a nice reminder of home. Your pond is well done, very Pretty. Thanks for your videos, they are an inspiration for this Plant Junkie... Cheers from across the pond.
Started getting some bits I need for my revitalised tank pond and realised the downside of getting lava rocks on line. I guess you might have gone to Pro Shrimp to choose your rocks? Bit of a trek for me.
I did yes as it’s not too far. They do post them but I guess it’s tough when you don’t know what you’re getting. Maybe there’s an aquatic place near you?
Perhaps an edited version could be sent into Gardners world view videos. Since they had you on before presenting I think a trimmed video could be ideal for this alternative pond arrangements with unexpected planting
I think it's fabulous. It's a visual treat, love the combination of plants you chose. I've seen my dragonflies dripping down and lay larvae on the water. Put my pond in back around 2000, with a bog garden at one end. This makes me want to replace several of the original plants and add yours. Looks like your ant issues might be getting better.?
Wow love the pond although I think you might have overdone it with all the plant you have added but time will tell. For during winter I would get a large piece if bubble rap, enough to wrap around the the tank twice, to help stop the water temperature getting too low. I know plastic is evil but this wouldn't be a single use occasion and should last you several years and sometimes it just needs to be Keep up the good work
That's awesome! I bought the sundew on a whim when I visited the garden centre, if it dies I'll definitely replace it with out native one, Drosera Anglica.
I may overwinter the sundew in the polytunnel as it’s not as hardy as the Sarracenia which will tolerate frost and even snow! They will go dormant and die back like a perennial plant. The water lettuce (not hyacinth as those are banned here) is not hardy and will die in winter.
It should be absolutely fine 😊 The only plant that is likely to die is the water lettuce. I’ll move the sundew into the polytunnel as this is more tender than the Sarracenia.
i love this! so beautiful, and thoughtful. please keep us updated over the different seasons. i don’t have any outdoor space right now but i would love to do this when i have.
Awesome pond, can't wait to see how it progresses over the years. Not sure if it's just me but I swear you look even happier than usual in this video, what a pretty smile!
Aww, thank you. I was just super excited to get my pond made. Once I get set on an idea I’m so impatient and impulsive that I just have to get it done 😆
I have just taken the surface temperature of my tank pond which was 26C - 15.38 on 14/08/22. There is no way I can shade the pond and I have had great problems with blanket weed this year and as the pond sits in full sun for most of the day, it's not surprising and possibly I should think of a different regime. It has been a great success for the last four years and the pond plants grow really well. I shall probably follow your new pond ideas so I will follow your progress with interest. Thank you for yet another charming and informative video.
What a great job, I was surprised to see all the plants you were putting in a fairly small tank, but in the end it all looked very pleasely balanced. We have a ground level pond for years now. We first had some plants and fish, the raccoons took the fish rather quickly. Fast forward, we now only have a water pump and water fountain for circulation. I love your plants and look forward to seeing your efforts evolve. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Lovely, I sank a large plastic reservoir partially into the ground but as the rear of it is next to a camellia bush I raised the soil at the back so it’s level for wildlife to climb in , bricks and gravel at the bottom to provide habitat for creatures, plants have grown well so as my garden borders fields and I have steep bankings which get a bit wild and overgrown in summer I’m sure to get frogs or toads laying in it, but no 3 years on not a single tadpole, so maybe small fish may be the answer, I would be interested to know what variety you eventually buy. I did enjoy watching you create your pond and look forward to updates .
How will the plants, especially the carnivorous ones manage in the cold? I really like the depth and size of the container. It is just right. Will be lovely when things flower and start to spread x

I LOVE those lava rock bowls! So natural looking. Well done. An idea i need to borrow

Love your new pond. Incorporating carnivorous plants is a new idea for me,I never would have thought to use them the way you have!A good idea.
greetings from malta i watch all your videos they are so refreshing

Just loved listening to you... looks great and I will make the lavaplants.. thx
Such an enchanting new feature for your garden. Love it.
Having fun is hard. Great job

Looking forward to seen your videos and watching .
I'm in South east Ireland so only across the pond.
Fascinating.. I need to do this. Very inspirational
I love this! It looks great. I created a "patio pond" this summer and it has been such a joy - and having fish out there is so fun!
I’m inspired to do this at my place. Thanks Katrina.
Wow encore une belle vidéo bravo 😉
A bientôt 👍
Polyurethane pond seal.... Hmmm. This might solve a problem I have. Thanks for sharing the product!
Looks wonderful, great job! It’ll be lovely when that water lily flowers too 🙂
Yes! I’m so excited to see it flower 🌸
What a lovely job, so much thought and attention to detail! Gorgeous! 🌀🌳
I love your content been watching a wile now keep up the good work.
Happy growing
From Seed To Harvest
great presentation👍🤗
Greetings from the Olympic Peninsula in NW Washington! Thank you for sharing the creation of your new water feature! Loved it! 💛🌻💛🌻💛
Great video!
Stupendous!
Beautiful ! Love the way You put it all together. Thank You for sharing and have a fantastic day
Love it! Great job Katrina 💚
Thankyou for sharing this pond creation. Lovely.
This is absolutely beautiful! 😍

So interesting. Thanks for sharing. I’ve seen pitcher plants in regular pots but this looks so much more interesting.
I LOVE this 😍 Looking forward to seeing you adding some fish 🐠🙏
I love it! It will be so relaxing to sit near! 🪷🪷🪷
It really is! 😌

turned out really nice! I know you will enjoy it.

Hi your pond looks great. If you’re going to use tap water to top up you can get tap water safe from your local pet shop it works really well
Thank you, however I’m cautious about using it as the carnivorous plants probably wouldn’t like that. They really do need rain water only, fussy things 😆
Well done! The plants are gorgeous too.
Fab job, Katrina! Love it!
Super creative project. Fantastic.
That pond looks lovely I think it’s important to make room for wild life! They help you with your veggies growing lol
So inspiring... thanks young lady👌
great job
It looks so wonderful katrina!! Nice job!!! Its so you...ox from NH
Thanks for sharing your talents! Should be able to work well here in Missouri, USA!
Nice! I've always liked sun dews though I don't know why. I think it's the way the light hits them. Good project.

I love your pond, good job. I think I'd like to try one too.
Thanks God this is wonderful
It is beautiful
Just put a Belfast sink pond in so looking for tips!
Lovely!
I love it 💕 there is still time for a larger pond 😉😉😉
No space though 😝
@@homegrowngarden I know 🥰
I love this! I do wish I could find a way to manage a small pond area here in Canada, though I would probably have to start over every season 😅
Beautiful Tank ....Guess what I'm going to Make 💚🌞
Would be very interested to know how the carnivorous plants are managing. I want to put these exact ones on a floating pot on my pond.
You did an amazing job. it looks amazing. I appreciate the step by step video. Let us know in a few weeks how it is doing.

@@homegrowngarden Not one that sells Lava and it's a shame that Featherock isn't available in the UK. At least I haven't found any.

Absolutely beautiful! What fish did you get in the end?
Oh dear! Have you grounded that aerator to avoid a strike from lightning? This dear pond is absolutely delightful!
Hmm, that’s actually not something I thought about 😅
love it

What can I say, I love my plants 😅
I want to make a bog garden bed to see what happens if I tend to two native bog plants. Cloud berry and sundew.
That's awesome! I bought the sundew on a whim when I visited the garden centre, if it dies I'll definitely replace it with out native one, Drosera Anglica.
Lovely job. I might just have a go at one of these myself.
Just need a big container.
Great project although as a woodworker, I winced at what you did with the spade bit.😆
Will the carnivorous plants survive the UK winter?
Hello, how do you fertilise your pond?
Look into Dollar Weed (weed of good eyesight)
Your floating plant survived being put 3 days in the dark in the blue barrel ?
I put the pond weed in the barrel not the floating water lettuce 🙂 Pond weed doesn’t need a lot of light, it was fine.
Does the carnivorous plant die in winter? And the water hyacinth hardy?
I may overwinter the sundew in the polytunnel as it’s not as hardy as the Sarracenia which will tolerate frost and even snow! They will go dormant and die back like a perennial plant. The water lettuce (not hyacinth as those are banned here) is not hardy and will die in winter.
wow. how winter proof?
It should be absolutely fine 😊 The only plant that is likely to die is the water lettuce. I’ll move the sundew into the polytunnel as this is more tender than the Sarracenia.
Can we have an update on this pond??x
There already is. About 2. Weeks ago
Woohoo! Just found it!

Are you going to grow some flowers for your wedding? :D
Where did you get the aerator? It would be just the job for my pond thanks.
Amazon, link in the description!
@@homegrowngarden thanks sorry I asked before I watched the whole video.
What an absolutely cracking job you've made of that....the airpump makes the pond come alive , I could stare at it for hours on a recliner 👌
If I were doing this, I would have said "Nah, the tank is too small", but, hey, it works. Great job !
i love this! so beautiful, and thoughtful. please keep us updated over the different seasons. i don’t have any outdoor space right now but i would love to do this when i have.
You could do a small indoor pond, or riparium tank
For a non gardener . I thoroughly enjoy this site .
Thanks for being here!
I don’t remember you having mentioned your engagement or ever seeing your beautiful ring! Congratulations 🥂
