My late wife loved the tune.I used to play it for her, it was played in tribute to her on my best plpes by my fellow pipe major @ her funeral on 10 th August last year, all who attended were very moved. an absolutely beutiful tune! Pipe major John Anderson.
@@TheWackiboy I know. But it is still suggested to be made as the Scottish Anthem by many. Was it not written with the pipes in mind? and for the 'Highland Games' held in Germany that year? Hats off to those two composers! A brilliant melody. The bagpipes really make this melody
@@johnnycox6812 I completely agree with you, it's a beautiful song that fits Scotland perfectly. The composers definitely had the feeling for Scottish music and soul. Personally, I am German, but I love bagpipe music very much. We were at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo during the Fringe 2015, we are a big fan of Scotland, the music and the people.
Being "Scotch, no rocks, no water, no soda" as I like to describe myself, this piece brings me to tears every time I hear it. I'm also a member of the Scottish Rite within the Masonic Fraternity. We use this piece as part of our opening and closing ceremonies when we hold our exercises. I am a staff organist at my Consistory, and I've worked this up as a solo piece to play on our organ.
I played this song at the St.Paul police memberal in May 16, 2022.with the obtain in the area of the law enforcement day week is a surprise to the once-in-a-lifetime of the past few years ago when I playing this song.
My dad was an Ulster man!! Born and raised in Derry and he came to America as a young man. We went over twice before he passed I was blessed to see his beloved homeland. He was the last of 6 children to emigrate after his parents passed
It was. For a time in the 1990s, it was the anthem of British Hong Kong (though unofficially I think). There is even a version with lyrics in Cantonese.
i hope that Scotland will adopt this beautiful, stirring piece of music as its national anthem when it becomes an independent country once again in the near future.

To me there is great irony in the bagpipe. It really is a very ugly instrument and makes a very ugly sound, but when put into a great and moving context it seems to always suck the emotion right out of me. Never hear this song with crying.
This is in no way meant to put you down in any way, but the bagpipe actually does make a beautiful sound. I personally stand up a little straighter and walk a little faster. But that's just me. Scottish instruments are some of the most amazing sounding
My late father loved this. I cry when I hear it, in remembrance of Dad and my pride in being Scottish.
But it was composed by a German and not Scottish at all they just appropriated it

One word. Brilliant!
I cry every time I hear it also...it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of music played by the bagpipes and drums.
Yep I know exactly what you mean it's an emotional piece so we'll put together.
You‘re not alone 😊

Two Germans wrote this song. Just wonderful. This song deserves to be an Anthem.
It was. For a time in the 1990s, it was the anthem of British Hong Kong (though unofficially I think). There is even a version with lyrics in Cantonese.
It's now scotland tune given to them after the German Highland games where Scotland was invited to
Scotland was given it by the German composers and wish we had it as our national anthem instead of what we use
Where might one locate the lyric to this song?
Absolutely fantastic
Beautiful music real tearjerker what was the Paul girl doing standing in front she looked very out of place she didn’t look happy.
So touching..
Brilliant so good.
