Another great review, Byron. Roll or jerk 🤔 whatever gets them bitting. I love all the colours and can't wait to get some. Also, I am looking forward to the force review. Stay safe.
Hey Byron been really digging your content lately. So much so that I picked up the 2 Infeet rods that you reviewed, they feel awesome for the price point. Even whipped out the old blue Luvias to match with the hardbody rod. I'd use these lures to slow roll in the highly pressured West Lakes in South Australia. The EXDR shape/depth reminds me of a lure that I was a big fan of, especially in the Glenelg, the OSP Dunk.
Found your channel as I was looking for info on these lures, have definitely subscribed. Was not into the originals of these, too big for the yellow fin in my local system and just always found myself going for another lure in the box. I’ll definitely be grabbing some of these to slow roll over the flats and the drop offs. And run past the rock walls. Similar lure from a lesser manufacturer has often worked, so keen to see if the new goods from Daiwa increase the catch. Cheers for the great content.
@@ByronTeaHill Anytime! Can't believe I only just found your channel lol going back through all your content, amazing stuff. Appreciate the efforts you go to. Hope you're catching plenty this summer. Cheers
Thanks again for another great video mate. These actually spiked my attention for Bass fishing in the river up my way. We get all of of Sooties and Bass that sit on the deeper rocky points and at times I really enjoy just rolling smaller baits down to them when the bite is tough. Can't wait to get a few into the tackle box!
Dude pleasure is mine. They’ve caught a few bass for me but I’ll be giving them a go in this years bass comps. Tight lines dude, I hope they bring you some luck!!!
I'm such a fan of the original tournament spike which I have in purple suji and bleeding prawn. This lure slays as a trolling lure and pulls up all the regular estuary dwellers, yes all of them. It is also great as a jerkbait and I'm a huge double clutch man. Super excited to try these in the smaller profile and diff colours and really tune it in as a jerkbait .
Hey Byron, you've helped keep me sane with everything going on in Aus, and keep me inspired and dreaming of my next day on the water. I'll try all styles while learning lure fishing once I get this bad boy
Roll looked good. Recently received a kayak for my wife and I anniversary. Been picking up plastics and lures to try out in the Mitchell and backwater. Would definitely use these lures as a rolling lure as only new to lure fishing. Merry Christmas mate
As newbie to lure fishing, I reckon I’d go rolling crank style. My son and I still haven’t hooked up yet on a hardbody yet but hopefully that’ll change when we hit Wallis Lake next weekend! Yew!
Newish angler here! Thanks so much for your videos! Helped me a lot! Will give these bad boys a try. I’m a fan of the twitch so I can be as active as I can be and not fall asleep 🤣
Hey Byron you've helped me so much with learning to lure fish and which lures to choose. I'd definitely be using that lure in both styles to catch some great bream this summer. Thanks again for a great video and keep them coming.🔥🔥🔥
Hahahahaha pork rolls for the win!!! Did you try these lures north of vic? I watched the diawa promo video and suggested that they were pretty good on the yellow fin bream, aswell as a lot of bycatch. I don’t think I could limit myself to one retrieve and would switch between jerk and slow roll. Can’t wait to test it out though! Have a good Christmas and get some more vids of the yak out!
Hahaha! Mrs Hill delivering the goods! Looks like another winner from Daiwa - something a bit different from the chubby style cranks and minnow jerkbaits - might just get the bite when neither style would. For me, I’d use roll these along the deeper rock walls, drop offs and wash zones - would save the twitch baiting for the new mini-double clutch.
These lures are gonna smash it here in Tassie for sure mate, I got my eye on the blue suji and moebi. Our trout down here love the sunny gill colour as well
Been waiting for this one mate! I fish double clutches alot but have always struggled with getting them down deep, whereas with the spikes can fish them a fair bit deeper whilst still getting a good cast and a nice size. as for the giveaway entry I will be working it like a crankbait !
Jerkbait style for sure I reckon, especially up here in QLD. Will work great for the bass up here which I’m keen to try out! Mint information again mate.
Hey Byron love how unbiased your opinion is on these reviews keep it up mate 👌 I really like the look of the new Spike 44 will definitely be picking up some to try on rock walls up in the north for Mangrove Jacks and other reefies 👌 Massive thanks to the legends over at Daiwa and yourself for all the giveaways
Have been waiting for these and vid on them, I can't wait to use them. With the versatility I'm going to have them in the box for both yellow and black bream. I can't wait to throw them at the hybrids we get in the local 👌🏽
Quick work pulling that together after the ABT GF! I enjoyed watching the live feed with Steve, and was impressed 👍. If I had these I'd probably go for the XDR, and prefer a rolling crank retrieve generally.. haven't used a lot of minnow lures, so I'm interested in these!
Definitely a situational thing in my opinion, over the flats chasing shallow water bream it’s really hard to beat a slow roll as you would with chubbies or the infeet cranks for example, also if out in deeper water using a jerking style retrieve to get it down quicker then into a slow roll to keep it down there, but up along rock walls and weed beds and snaggier country I think it’s very hard to go past a jerk bait style retrieve, I’m also a massive fan of using a jerk bait style retrieve on bass and will definitely be giving these a go doing exactly that. Great vid as always Byron keep it up!
I’ve been lucky enough to score 1 Matt prawn 44 mr from my local tackle shop and I can concur while the spike has not been my number one choice based on the 53 model I will be using these more often, fishing off the beach in south Australia for bream is my new fishing addiction and with an all round round lure it minimises the tackle needed to be carried in the back pack, the roll and twitch will be perfect to roll the lure through holes in the limestone and twitch over the sand flats. Can not wait to get my hands on some of these awesome lures. Great vid mate keep up the content 🤙🏻
Another great video. Thanks mate. I've only got a few hard bodies and they're all rolling type lures. I'd been keen to give these a go and also move into some jerk style lures.
Great review Byron , I would mix up the retreive, as i would also chase flathead with it, as I have used the larger one, in matte prawn colour, and caught flathead and bream on it,
Thanks, Byron. Just like you, I’m looking forward to casting a few of these around in Tassie next year (all being well!) So we’d have to see how well they can be twitched and paused down there!
Thanks for the review! Will definitely be adding this one to my tackle box. I do find I have more success with a rolling crank retrieval with my 53 spike so keen to try these
These lures look dynamite. Very keen to roll it around the deep edges of pontoons and structure for big bream! Cracker video BTH! Merry Christmas mate looking forward to more in the new year.
As you know i have just started throwing rolling cranks in the mobei colour over the last month in the shallows and had great success on bream. I would slow roll the spike 44 on the deeper drop offs in lake Mac. Great vid, keep it up
Hey Bryon, for me up on the Gold Coast Id either fish this lure with a fairly fast retrieve against bridges and pontoons to try and get a reaction bite or cranking it with long stalls around the docks and sand edges. Again another awesome review mate. Merry Christmas.
Byron, mate, I really respect the amount of time and effort you put into the testing and knowledge base you develop on these products. Never been much into targeting Bream yet I'm still chasing flathead. But however for me, slow rolling a mobi over the flats and rocks and walls will be my jam. Great video looking forward to your review of The Force Motor. Have a great Christmas 🎄.
Great content Byron, the MR would be the suited to my area over the flats and around the racks. Daiwa are pumping out some pretty good softies and hard bodies of late. Using it like a rolling crank would be my go to, waiting on the 48 DC to be rereleased.
Hey Byron, those spike 44's look very cool and we look forward to getting a few to roll along the bottom of our local estuary's in south west Victoria for black bream, We love your videos and reviews keep up the good work.
omg they look amazing can't wait to get a few and use them with a slow roll for some yellowbelly in a local waterway close to home. Once again other bloody awesome video good work.
Hey Byron, always keen to see your next video and this one is no exception. Spike 44, rolling crank every day of the week. Looking forward to flicking one at my local river system. Maybe thanks to BTH?
awsome video again Byron. These vids help me so much when trying to get into new styles of fishing. I would use the new spike 44s to roll across flats and jerk them around . mate
Another cracking video , I just pick up 2 for myself from Adam at fishin .I can’t wait to slow roll them at some boat hulls of the flats . Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas
Glad you enjoyed the video mate, I'll stay classy here but Adam does not support the channel on this content and has been vocal against it. Tight lines.
Great video as always, I'm excited to see these lures FINALLY hit shelves! I would use them in a rolling style and target local Redfin and Bass in my local waterways. They look like they have a great action, and I agree with your assessment of Moebi as the best colour :)
Great Vid as always. That Moby colour looks like a killer when the rivers hit the lake. i would slow roll it in that area. also from launch to that area i would troll it behind the yak. Had many successful hook ups doing this.
that sandcrab colour is so sick! & you got me craving some pork rolls now haha! Jerkbait style action is what i reckon will get them for me personally!
Cracka video Byron honestly the effort in editing of the videos just blows me away no one really knows how much goes into them! Only if Sydney could have stonker black bream you have 😭 Haven't really used any types of lures like the spike but have used plenty of rolling cranks so that would be my go to for style of use. 🔥🔥
I love the spike 53 lures, I would love to have a set of these new spike 44 lures and hopefully get some bream with it up in Lake Macquarie. I like to use the jerking technique but I think these new ones will be good to use with a slow roll as well.
Given the type of fishing I normally go in for, probably the rolling style in the medium depth would be where I'd start. Fished along weed edges in a couple of metres of water. Must be awesome to be a tackle tester!
Great vid as always. I can’t wait to give one of these a go once I get my hands on one. Most likely going to fish it as a crank, but will mix it up a bit to see what produces more fish
Great Video! I think I would prefer the rolling crank style for the yellowfin and more of a jerkbait style along the weed edges to mix it up for some flathead
These look great, haven’t tried them yet but looking forward to giving them ago, I’ve used the infeet rolling cranks and they go well, got the moebi and matt prawn colours after watching your video on them, but I did like the bloodworm colour too
Great video again mate. Id be using the spikes as jerkbaits when targeting bass and redfin , and as a slow rolling crank around the snags chasing bream.
I think the rolling style would be my go to but that don’t rule out the twitch jerk bait retrieve to mix it up and explore the lures versatility especially in the medium depth model
thanks for that Byron now I want a pork roll 😂 I’ve ordered 2/3 of your fav colours in the 44EXDR hoping to have a chance after Xmas 🎄 to get out and rolling crank these to get onto some fish
Wow these lures look good 😍 personally I would probably use them more as a slow roll as the redfin in the Adelaide hills just love a really slowly moved hardbody. And with the reservoirs opening up recently it gives a great opportunity to hit some of the deeper edges with the EXD’s. Great video Byron and I can confirm Vietnamese rolls are amazing😋
Great info regarding the use of this lure, I admit I was a bit unsure if it was a jerk bait or a crank. I would probably fish it as a crank, I seem to have issue using jerk baits in deeper water, just not much luck. Still hanging for those DC 48's to be available though.
Can’t wait for these to be released! I’ve been waiting for them to come out as I really like the current Spikes but like you, believe they would be better smaller. I use them in a rolling style more than a jerk bait style. Would love a set of these mate!
I use the spike heaps, a smaller profile would be mint. Thanks for the vid, and reminder that I need a pork roll!! I would use this in a mix retrieve to see what they want on the day.
Good job mate, thanks for the info. I've never really knew when this lure sat because of the exact reasons you mentioned (hybrid crank/jerkbait) and given my go to is the Double Clutch - ive never bothered. But I suppose it makes sense to use this more as a rolling crank and use the DC in a more jerkbait style retrieve. Can't hurt to mix in both retrieves I guess. Keep up the content legend.
I’m looking forward to giving one of these a crack on the bream, I’ve never been a fan of the original spike because of its running depth and size. The exdr will be perfect for rolling over deeper drop offs with a couple of pause/twitches in the retrieve.
I think I’ll use it for a bit of testing what the fish might be after. Kind of like a finder lure. Try a slow roll, if that’s not working, try a twitch. If it turns out the fish are liking the twitch/jerk, switch over to a double clutch, etc.
Hey Byron, Great video as usual. I think this lure would go great around Jumpinpin area and rolling back from the bank. That's what I would use it for. Might go Ok on the troll around pontoons of the GC for Jack's. Thanks for content this year and keep up the great work 👍
G'day Byron, I think this lure is the perfect mixture of a 48 doubleclutch and a chubby 38 and that's exactly why I'd probably give both techniques a go at first. Probably would prefer rolling with it just because the yellow fin bream are finicky and a natural retrieve would tempt them more. Solid content as always!
Byron thanks for the information it helps enormously for an old bloke like me, faced with tackle store walls of HB. I think I’d use it as a slowly worked jerk bait . Safe Xmas to all of the troops.
My order just turned up and they look the goods, keen to dredge them in the mud in Vic next year. Rutherford bakery has the best Vietnamese rolls too 😉
Hi Byron, thanks again for the enjoyable content. I've used the 53mm Spike in the past and have been successful with just slow rolling it. With the new ones I'd be interested to try both slow rolling and jerking, especially the extra deep diving version.
+1 for jerkbait, have honestly never caught a fish on a rolling crank at deep, medium or shallow depth. Would love to have a go though! Thanks again for the competition :) Haven't been able to find risky critters in any independent tackle store, or the bigger chains either! Hanging out because they look amazing!
Hahahaha legend. Roland the critters are available on that affiliate link in the risky critter video. My pleasure for the comp dude. Really lucky to have people supporting the channel
Most likely be using it in a slower crank bait action for bass on drop offs and snags in blue rock lake here in Victoria especially in the deeper diving model
Thanks mate, love the look of this lure, I’ve mainly used the original as more of a crank style, but with the depth this one gets to, I am keen to use it jerk bait style deep on some metro bridges.
Would be keen to try them on the yellows in south NSW. I would keep switching them up between jerking and rolling to see what they are liking on the day
It's a crank bait for me every time. I love a slender "shad style" crank and find they have a great hookup ratio as well. Depth would have to be the exdr around deep rock faces for bass and bream. Merry Christmas mate.
Hey Byron, I’ve had these on my list since daiwa’s new product catalogue was released it’s been a long time coming. Definitely keen to try them using the slow roll to get those summer whiting fired up. All the best for Christmas and New Years 🍻
Vote 1 for the Pork Roll! With Extra Chilli!

Less Chilli, extra coriander please
Me no chilli. LoL 😅😅😅
I’m betting there’ll be a pork roll give away coming soon!
Thanks for the review Byron. I’m do most of my Bream fishing in Sydney Harbour, so I reckon I’d be using the lure as a crank bait more often than not.
Great informative video 👍 can’t wait to grab a couple when they hit the stores, and slow crank them and see what happens!😁

I love the spike 53 lures, I would love to have a set of these new spike 44 lures and hopefully get some bream with it up in Lake Macquarie. I like to use the jerking technique but I think these new ones will be good to use with a slow roll as well.
well you've entered legend so you're in with a chance!
Given the type of fishing I normally go in for, probably the rolling style in the medium depth would be where I'd start. Fished along weed edges in a couple of metres of water.
Must be awesome to be a tackle tester!
lots of excitement, lots of effort, lots of fun Grant.
Enjoy the fish up here in the newy area. Will be Keen to see how these go vs the double clutches in Lake Macquarie & hunter river.
Cheers Matthew
Love the videos. I would use this lure in a twitch style for yellowfin bream around rock and kelp edges
Cheers legend, thanks for commenting bud
‘Already subbed’ for the deep version I would use with a jerk action and would just roll the shallow version right up in the shallows 🤙
Entered mate! Legend
Great vid as always. I can’t wait to give one of these a go once I get my hands on one. Most likely going to fish it as a crank, but will mix it up a bit to see what produces more fish
Awesome Alan! Cheers legend
Great Video! I think I would prefer the rolling crank style for the yellowfin and more of a jerkbait style along the weed edges to mix it up for some flathead
Nice!
These look great, haven’t tried them yet but looking forward to giving them ago, I’ve used the infeet rolling cranks and they go well, got the moebi and matt prawn colours after watching your video on them, but I did like the bloodworm colour too
All three colours are good dude! 100% they are good to use.
Great video again mate. Id be using the spikes as jerkbaits when targeting bass and redfin , and as a slow rolling crank around the snags chasing bream.
Sounds great!
I think the rolling style would be my go to but that don’t rule out the twitch jerk bait retrieve to mix it up and explore the lures versatility especially in the medium depth model
Thanks for sharing Chris
thanks for that Byron now I want a pork roll 😂 I’ve ordered 2/3 of your fav colours in the 44EXDR hoping to have a chance after Xmas 🎄 to get out and rolling crank these to get onto some fish
hahaha Julio! thanks for the support mate. those colours are wicked hey dude
Couldn’t agree more legend pork roles FTW. Merry Christmas legend
Great info regarding the use of this lure, I admit I was a bit unsure if it was a jerk bait or a crank. I would probably fish it as a crank, I seem to have issue using jerk baits in deeper water, just not much luck. Still hanging for those DC 48's to be available though.
Mate me too!!! I had the conversation with the guys today about them!
Can’t wait for these to be released! I’ve been waiting for them to come out as I really like the current Spikes but like you, believe they would be better smaller. I use them in a rolling style more than a jerk bait style. Would love a set of these mate!
Hey Carly, these are out now :), there's a couple links in the description so you can peruse tight lines!
I use the spike heaps, a smaller profile would be mint. Thanks for the vid, and reminder that I need a pork roll!! I would use this in a mix retrieve to see what they want on the day.
hahahaha pork rolls are awesome
Good job mate, thanks for the info. I've never really knew when this lure sat because of the exact reasons you mentioned (hybrid crank/jerkbait) and given my go to is the Double Clutch - ive never bothered. But I suppose it makes sense to use this more as a rolling crank and use the DC in a more jerkbait style retrieve. Can't hurt to mix in both retrieves I guess. Keep up the content legend.
my pleasure Matt, thanks for commenting and helping the video. always keen to hear your thoughts
I’m looking forward to giving one of these a crack on the bream, I’ve never been a fan of the original spike because of its running depth and size. The exdr will be perfect for rolling over deeper drop offs with a couple of pause/twitches in the retrieve.
Amen bud amen!
Would use them both rolling crank and jerk bait style, just depends on heaps of factors, and what the fish want on the day! Great vid
Cheers Alex!
I think I’ll use it for a bit of testing what the fish might be after. Kind of like a finder lure. Try a slow roll, if that’s not working, try a twitch. If it turns out the fish are liking the twitch/jerk, switch over to a double clutch, etc.
I see what you did there.. nice idea, let me know if it works
@@ByronTeaHill once I get my hands on a couple, will let you know.
Hey Byron,
Great video as usual.
I think this lure would go great around Jumpinpin area and rolling back from the bank. That's what I would use it for. Might go Ok on the troll around pontoons of the GC for Jack's.
Thanks for content this year and keep up the great work 👍
Pieter, really appreciate that dude, nice of you to say legend
@@ByronTeaHill you have taught me so much over the past year and my catch rate has increased.
Props to you Legend
G'day Byron, I think this lure is the perfect mixture of a 48 doubleclutch and a chubby 38 and that's exactly why I'd probably give both techniques a go at first. Probably would prefer rolling with it just because the yellow fin bream are finicky and a natural retrieve would tempt them more. Solid content as always!
Right on Andrea, thanks for commenting mate
Onya Byron! Where I am in NSW I'd be using it more as a crank for yellowfin who seem to prefer that slow roll rather than twitch and pause
Awesome Liam! Merry Christmas mate
Probably use a mixture because I could use on a variety of species like redfin and trout to bream and snook.
If it helps I'm 14
It doesn’t! What helps is you getting involved Jack! Cheers legend
Really love your content very detailed and truthful opinion. Thanks heaps. Will be slow rolling these bad boys
My pleasure William. Thanks for being a legend.
I definitely will be using them in a rolling crank style! What an awesome lure!
Merry Christmas mate, give them a whirl
Byron thanks for the information it helps enormously for an old bloke like me, faced with tackle store walls of HB. I think I’d use it as a slowly worked jerk bait . Safe Xmas to all of the troops.
my pleasure Geoffrey, Merry Christmas to you too
Defintly an all rounder mainly crank but defintly be a great option for search and getting a reaction bite as a jerkbait!
Awesome JM!
My order just turned up and they look the goods, keen to dredge them in the mud in Vic next year.
Rutherford bakery has the best Vietnamese rolls too 😉
handy to know!!! Heddon greta bakery has been hammering my guts with them
Great vid as always 👌 would be working that lure any way that will catch 🐟
Thanks Legend
rolling crank style for the spikes!! good luck to everyone too
Nice!
Hi Byron, thanks again for the enjoyable content. I've used the 53mm Spike in the past and have been successful with just slow rolling it.
With the new ones I'd be interested to try both slow rolling and jerking, especially the extra deep diving version.
awesome to hear legend. Entered
+1 for jerkbait, have honestly never caught a fish on a rolling crank at deep, medium or shallow depth. Would love to have a go though! Thanks again for the competition :)
Haven't been able to find risky critters in any independent tackle store, or the bigger chains either! Hanging out because they look amazing!
Also, cucumber is disgusting haha, I don't blame ya mate.
Hahahaha legend. Roland the critters are available on that affiliate link in the risky critter video.
My pleasure for the comp dude. Really lucky to have people supporting the channel
@@ByronTeaHill Amazing! Purchased the 4 recommended colours. Thank you for your help!
Mate you mentioned this isn't your favourite jerk or crankbait lure for bream, may I ask what is your favourites?
Most likely be using it in a slower crank bait action for bass on drop offs and snags in blue rock lake here in Victoria especially in the deeper diving model
100% work a treat
Was just looking at these yesterday nice to see what colours work, my technique for these lures would be a slow roll over a deeper rock bar
Awesome Simon. Merry Christmas buddy.
@@ByronTeaHill merry Christmas to you as well
Thanks mate, love the look of this lure, I’ve mainly used the original as more of a crank style, but with the depth this one gets to, I am keen to use it jerk bait style deep on some metro bridges.
Thank you for commenting legend. thanks for always coming back legend
@@ByronTeaHill anytime mate, keep up the awesome content and I’m sure not only will everyone stick around, but you’ll continue to grow.
Would be keen to try them on the yellows in south NSW. I would keep switching them up between jerking and rolling to see what they are liking on the day
Cheers Angus
It's a crank bait for me every time. I love a slender "shad style" crank and find they have a great hookup ratio as well. Depth would have to be the exdr around deep rock faces for bass and bream.
Merry Christmas mate.
Cheers Jason. Thanks for sharing bud
I'd use it as a crankbait. I think it would do well in the local bass creek. I also have a craving for pork rolls now
Cheers legend
Hey Byron, I’ve had these on my list since daiwa’s new product catalogue was released it’s been a long time coming. Definitely keen to try them using the slow roll to get those summer whiting fired up.
All the best for Christmas and New Years 🍻
Merry Christmas Justin. Links below!
Done mate 5 in the bag, will give them a go as soon as I get them 🎣 appreciate the effort you put in to produce quality content 👍🏻
Bloody legend.
Nice review, haven’t used the bait but I am a fan of osp highcut and dunk which is a similar shad shape hybrid bait.
Yeah dude! Similar lures.
i think i would probably use these in rolling and twitching action for flatty and a slow role and pause on bream.
Cheers dude! thanks for the thoughts
