I was in the midst of editing some videos in Final Cut Pro and noticed that their was no sound so I asked Google, " Why cant I hear anything on my mac ? " Well I found something that actually worked for me and it was pretty simple. Watch this video if you have had to search for " I cant hear anything on my macbook pro or apple laptop. OMG THANK YOU!! it was showing up as grey on top of the sound bar & not letting me use the sound control option when the sound wasn't connected to anything else, it was driving me crazy for a week straight but you saved me!

I tried both "Forced Quit" and "Quit" multiple times but no luck. Any suggestions? Will the factory setting solve the problem?

It happens to me in the middle of calls where I lose either my input or the output -seems the trigger is if I open another app during the call but not sure if that was a coincidence. The audio settings drop and you can’t reset them quickly. It also happens when I switch from MS teams after a call worked fine but immediately after my team wants to huddle and talk on a different app slack-then No f$&king audio on slack!! My colleagues get so frustrated. No time to sit there and troubleshoot. Beginning to hate Mac OS just for this. It happens using Bluetooth, dongles or even jacked phones. So I’ll try anything! I’ve even spent the money on a Mac headset to improve compatibility yet still experiencing the issue on Mac mini m1, MacBook Pro m1 and intel. 🤬
I don’t have that thing that u clicked on audio so is there an alternative instead
I’m using Mac OS Catalina(10.15.6) I’m not sure for other OS versions unfortunately. I would assume anything that pops up after the search of “audio” could be a driver that could be the issue. Also you can try the link in this video’s description to see if these alternatives will work for you. Good luck🤞🏾

Basically go to “Activity Monitor” and quit or force quit whatever pops up once you type in “audio” in the search box.
