So not ideal then? Mike’s always saying that if that’s the case (DOMS for a week) you’ve done too much and you’re unlikely to get benefit from the session. I guess your response to that is that this was a one off and more about smashing it with the guys and you were doing some novel stuff there.
@@richardtrass this was my second proper leg day in about 6 weeks, so I think I'd have been crippled from doing a few sets of 10 bodyweight squats to be honest 😂😂 But they definitely had me pushing ranges of motions I hadn't explored in several years so even if I was conditioned for it I'd say I'd have been sore for a while!
I can't believe how much of an impact just thinking about the RP crew screaming "big chest, knees back!" at me, when doing either good mornings or RDLs, has had. The stretch is insane.
I tend to imagine Mike shouting cues at me while I'm mid-set. When I'm on leg press, all I hear is my music and Mike shouting "SLOOOWWW" as I'm on my eccentric
Dr. Mike is mentioning lamborghinis in every other video because he is actually "manifesting" a lambo" after seeing a tiktok life coach video about it. And it's actually becoming true in a year or two when the subscriber count hits 1 million +
The Buddybuilders are also in awe of Dr. Mike's pitch game, but what's even MORE impressive than his writing skills is his FASHION skills! Dr. Mike! The Buddybuilders all want to walk, talk, and act like you...starting with your shirt! What size shirt do you wear? If we don't fit in it, we will change that.
These two are really the only guys I listen to on UA-cam these days. They have a lot of similar info. Particularly when it comes to mind muscle connection and finding the right exercises for you to get the job done as opposed to just repeating the same shit that a lot of these other channels do.
I was sold at the moment I saw him sport Tool shirt for workout. Shoutouts to Eugene's Trick Bag as well. Super relatable too, going to parties to try to fit in with other people, but almost accidentally alienating yourself from everybody, because you're into something different. And shit getting serious when Dr. Mike goes full russian. Love it.
For a guy who wasn't familiar with GM's, he did excellent! I normally only ever saw women take to GM's like that due to hip position and flexibility by comparison to men. That's a testament to the degree of overall fitness and mobility he has. I can remember when I started doing GM's, just introducing them into my routine caused my plateau'd deadlift max to jump 60 lbs over the course of 3 months due to having discovered the weak link in my pulling.
I so love this episode. It's nice to see Dr Mike and Coach Eugene together as I follow both in their respective social media accounts. Great work to both of you guys.
love how you tackled the parents disapproving situation at the end . it's actually quite common, happened to me, still feel like I need to sneak around to go to gym when mums around lol I'm 45 Elena
Forget the actual exercises for a minute, this video is great at demonstrating one thing: try and avoid comparing yourself physically to anyone else in the gym. You may think you look pretty good when you see yourself in the mirror at home (and frankly if that's the case, you probably do), but as soon as you get to the gym, and much-bigger guys start featuring in the reflection, you somehow resemble a rake. Eugene has an absolutely fantastic physique in the context of his own channel and when compared to most gym-goers, but here he looks positively small, and it's tempting to think he has underdeveloped teardrops or hams etc. He doesn't, at all. It's calves for me; they look alright at home and people at the gym have actually been complimentary before, but they seem to completely disappear in those bloody walls of mirrors!
totally. Eugene is actually shorter than I'd figured, shorter than even Dr Mike, but then you just the the insane perspective of what a unit Dr Mike actually is. Like Eugene's got a great physique but looks positively tiny standing next to these two.
I have also been affected by the fear of locking out on the leg press. As a gym noob (only six months so far), I try to not fully lock out, but I realize now that this fear might be overblown by social media. I mean, I lock out my legs underneath my body weight all the time (and I am heavy). Also when squatting with my body weight + 60 kg do I lock out my legs, so it doesn't really make sense. The biggest thing to be aware of, I guess, is that you don't get some kind of twisting motion or weird angles for your knees, but that goes for everyday usage of the same joints.
Oh man Dr. Mike, that wigs me out you locking out your legs on the leg press. I have personally seen my friend lock his legs out and the weight snapped them backwards so hard they spun completely around and physically turned his knee joints into knots. Then the safeties broke when the sled hit them and it flattened him into a human pizza. I had to go get my grill spatula to help the manager scrap him off the pad. RIP Johnny you will be missed. #LegPressMakesHumanPizza #SnappinThemKneesUp
Ive started a true meso cycle this week adding myo reps in where i lack in strength, my entire body is lit up, i literally feel every muscle in my body, i feels amazing to have a pump like this again, i feel bigger and fuller, today is rest day and tomorrow back to my push routine, thankyou Doc Mike
@@The3Lego3Freak it's $100 but I had a chrome extension called "honey" that found a coupon code that made it like %50 off. I can't remember the code though.
Locking out can increase tendon and ligament strength. If you started training locking out and have been doing it your entire time exercising then locking out will almost never cause an injury unless the load is WAY to high.
After listening to 50 lectures and reading The Scientific Principles of Hypertrophy Training 5 times I can confidently say this: RP is your daddy. Don't you love your daddy?
26:35 That's the sad truth and it's still the case here in Russia. People don't get confused here when you drink but they get confused when you muscle build or do any barbell sport. They think that there might be something wrong with you or you just waste your time.
Recently been doing the deep stretching with the lifting. And I've been lifting and I'm out also a trainer for the past 5 years and holy s*** am I sore
You mentioned rhabdo jokingly at the start. Who's most at risk of this? I'm guessing already well trained individuals who return after a layoff. They have the capacity to push incredibly hard and recruit a lot of muscle, but the intra workout recovery mechanisms have de trained.
I have two questions: 1. Is ICF or 531 better? 2. Should I add a strength day on the side when I do upper/lower? 3. When I do upper lower I only train arms, chest, and back 2 times a week, is this bad? Thanks
2 times a week is good for hypertrophy for all muscles. If you want to work on strength as well as hypertrophy, you can start with your heavier exercises and then finish with higher rep exercises. Or you can do a few heavy sets and one lighter set on each exercise.
I'm interested in the science behind the complete lockout when pressing/squatting because every physical therapist I've ever had, which is about 8 physical therapists(I've had 2 surgeries on each knee in 2010-2011), over the course of 12 years has told me to not completely lockout at the top of the squat to take it to 179 degrees the furthest but to leave a little room. What's the debate and/or science and kinesiology on this when lifting and is it only applied to legs or all joints?
If you have hypermobile joints or a history of knee injury, then "play it safe" is usually the advice I've heard. But I do feel like some of these word-of-mouth cues that don't have much research behind them are really just there to avoid lawsuits.
I wish I could do leg press. The gyms near me only have machines that have no safety stops. I don't want to do a movement unless I can go 100%, guess I can't do leg press! Note: I tested then out with an unloaded sled, end range of motion in the event of failure is me getting hurt.
Whats a good way to progress myo reps week to week? In the past i've just added one or two reps each week. ie. week 1, 20 total reps, week 2 22 total reps.
