Thankyou so much for showing a basic understanding way in teaching this float level situation on my ford galaxie xL 351 clev with a 750 double pumper car wouldn't even start and lm on holidays now after your tutorial im tuning it myself and its running like a 747 thankyou keep up the great work !
Glad I could be of assistance. It's really old drag racer tuning. Keep an eye out for more carb tuning info (idle mixture and speed along with accelerator pump tuning are live now too). :)
Great video, now I have a better understanding on adjusting floats. I was getting backfires through my carb at the low end, now I feel more confident in being able to tackle this issue. 🍻
@@lonewolfhotrods I have a question...i have a 4160 single feed vac sec and im trying to help a "Burning Rich" issue. You said that by lowering the float level this would help. By lowering the float level aren't you raising the fuel level? There is a difference between float level and fuel level so this is where im confused. So for a "burning rich" issue do i lower the float level (which raises the fuel level) or raise the float level (which lowers the fuel level)? Any help is much appreciated!!!
nice video. I'm in the process of making a video of trying to get an old grain truck with a holley running. I think I need to adjust my fuel level. Its my first time playing with an actual carburetor. All the carbs I have touched were on a snowmobile, 4 wheeler, or lawn mower. I'm glad you made this video so I have an idea of what I'm doing. haha.
Brilliant - way better than holleys own video, to the point with excellent instructions. Thanks! Bought a Reman 850 from holley and fuel was spewing out the vent, had grime inside - cleaned and now float still high. This was much more helpful, i think ill bench test it as im constantly flooding the motor, fouling plugs and almost dang near hydrolocked my brand new 383 motor with gas yesterday! Not fun!
Do you recall what the results where of the change you did? I have the exact same set up and the exact same thing is happening to mine. Spark plugs foul less than 200 miles of driving.
So raising the float level raises the fuel level to or does it close the needle more? My boat one is flooding, I think the floats just stuck, but not sure. It sat over winter now flooding.
Good info. I chased a of line bog on a Holley 600 vacuum secondary. When I first put new carb on my 302 Mustang I could pull sight plug and shake front end and get some gas out. So I thought it’s good. Took carb off this week and pulled front bowl. The float was not level. I leveled the float and left it a little on the high side. Now the car just rips out of the hole. Fuel starvation was the problem!
This is all well and good but I need to know the float setting while the carb is off the car and on the bench. Everything has been taken apart and cleaned. Then it has been reassembled with new gaskets. What is the static setting?
With the float bowls off the carburetor, you can turn them upside down and set the level. Eyeball it so that the float is just below the sight plug window opening.
If ya have one of the new ones with sight glass . level is adjusted to middle of glass . If ya have to lower float , I loosen up screw on bowl just below sight glass. to empty fuel.
very good info and instructions< but i have a governed 391 truck engine and cannot figure out the engine rough idle and fluttering. cannot find a vacuum leak. cannot find parts. it has 2 extra vacuum lines going thru the distributor i believe for the governor. can i put a different carb on without the governor vacuum lines?
I had my boosters dripping at idle and when off they where peeing out... when there was fuel pressure Had to lower my floats to keep them from leaking.
Is there a trick to setting the secondaries? When the engine is at idle nothing is being used so the level will not drop. I am thinking I will set it super low and drive it hard then in the driveway slowly bring it up with the plug removed???
I just fired up my carb it is a avenger double pump and it's shooting gas from the top of carb but sounded great haha how can I fix this or is this a whole rebuild? Last time I ran it it was just fine, just bought new pump then replaced some lines and added a filter
@@lonewolfhotrods I've got a '68 Torino with a 289, Holley 4 bbl, 1850. When car is in park, I can operate the gas pedal and the car accelerates fine. When the car is in drive and I apply the gas, it doesn't go above 12 mph, and unless it's very warmed up, it will stall out.
@@timothyfrost8807 Do you mean the engine revs up when in park, because the car can't accelerate when it's in park. With that in mind, check the choke operation first.

Thanks for the video, worked like a charm. I just switched over from the Eldebrock AVS2 to the Holley Brawler, best money Ive spent on a carb.

@@lindajones1592 no. If you physically lower the Holley float, the fuel level also goes lower.
Fuel will follow the level of the float.
Fantastic and straight forward. Keep the videos coming.
I'll try!

Yes. Be sure to block off the vacuum lines.

No trick. You're over-thinking it. Set them per the video. Please do not drive it with the sight plug removed.

I suspect your new pump has too much pressure. Likely needs a fuel pressure regulator.
Thanks for the info. Good work. I subscribed. It looks like you almost got 1K subs. Keep it up.
