- Hi Friends! Bentley and Albert want to share with you their new favorite slow cooker recipe, and I have included the recipe down below. I hope you enjoy!
Easy Crockpot Dog Food Recipe:
Yield: 12 cups
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 6 hours
Total time: 6 hours, 10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 1/2 lb ground beef
1 1/2 cups of brown rice
1 (15- ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 1/2 cups chopped butternut squash
1 1/2 cups chopped carrots
1/2 cup peas, frozen or canned
Directions:
1. Stir in ground beef, brown rice, kidney beans, butternut squash, carrots, peas, and 4 cups of water into a 6-qt slow cooker.
2. Cover and cook on low heat for 5-6 hours or high heat for 2-3 hours, stirring as needed.
3. Let cool completely

Yes, we have made homemade food our 2 babies for years. One of their favorites is: whole chicken, 1 can of green beans ( or peas), 2 can of carrots, 1 can of pumpkin and half a cup of cooked brown rice. I cook the chicken first, then add all the other ingredients to the pot and cook for about 1/2 hour on low/medium heat. They love it and it's super easy and inexpensive to make. 👍

I get a lot of my recipes on Pinterest and here on UA-cam just search homemade dog food. I also add flaxseed, turmeric, and egg shells that I grind up in the food processor. I do give them a multivit daily. I also give them kibble for one of their meals, to get the nutrients missing from the homemade. I just love your babies.
Albert and Bentley's conversations have me cracking up laughing. They are too cute. I can't even... Just too adorable.
I do all my dog food in the slow cooker. I do one with pork, sweet potatoes, pineapple, apples, and cranberries. They love it!

I have a crockpot recipe it’s similar to yours:
2lbs of ground turkey
1 pkg of gizzards
1 cup of brown rice
1 can of Goya Chickpeas (drained)
1 pkg frozen peas & carrots
1 can diced tomatoes-NO SALT (do not drain)
3 sweet potato patties
1 Granny Smith apple (diced)
1 cup frozen mango & papaya
2eggs w/shells
I put turkey, gizzards, rice and veggies into crockpot and set it for 4hrs, I stirred occasionally. I didn’t need the entire 4!hrs. I cored the apple and put in the chopper I then added the 2 eggs with shell and the mango papaya mixed then blended. Once the food in the crockpot was done I mixed it with the fruit and egg mixture and the meat that was too big I put it in the chopper and Voila!! #BabysFood🐶 She love her homemade food #ShihTzuLife

I have just started doing home made food. I pound protein, 1 pound carbs, 1 pound veggies. I use my pressure cooker then immersion blender. They LOVE it. thanks for sharing !

Dogs need organ meats (gross, I know) and a good source of Omegas, as well as other vitamins, depending on their needs. We've been home-cooking for over a year and our girls (8 and 12) have never been healthier. In fact, we have to take them to the groomer more often for haircuts and nail trims because they both grow so fast now! I love that you showed your "oopsies" and kept it real. I have had to dump things out of our crock pot on more than one occasion because they don't fit! Haha!
my2jedi May I ask how you implement their omegas and vitamins while cooking home cooked meals?

I do the same, add some organs to their meal and use the pressure cooker on my Ninja Foodie and is all done in 40 mins. Also use bone broth instead of water. My dogs love sweet potatoes included.
Sometimes I just add the veggies that I have home. We use very lean turkey or chicken ground meat.

@@itzeltellez939 I'm not who you're asking but maybe I can help. As far as organs go. We use beef or chicken hearts. Beef or chicken livers. Also, gizzards and turkey hearts. My almost 14 yr old loves it as does my sons almost 6 yr old chihuahua lol I cook turkey and chicken in my Nuwave oven or crock pot. I use every single part of the foods for them. When I'm finished making broth for them, I make bone meal from the bones. Its so nutritious for them. I add butternut squash, green beans, peas, kale, spinach, pumpkin, apples, blueberries, and different oils such as wild Alaskan salmon, hemp oil, mct and coconut oils. Also, kelp. Vitamin E (but make sure you dose correctly with this one). I use flax & chia seeds as well in her food.
Yogurt & goat milk are also excellent for them. My girl loves her goat milk. She loves having banana or blueberries in her yogurt too. Also, I can slide in pureed pumpkin in with that as well.
I've been thinking about making some videos as well about what dogs can have in their foods. Because there is so much more than many know. Myself, I don't use a lot of carrots or rice. Both are on the iffy scale with me. But that's just me. Everyone learns different 🤙

I Love that this is a CrockPot Recipe. My crockpot is a 7 quart so this should easily fit. TFS!!!! Your furbabies are PRECIOUS!!!! I had made dog food on the stovetop a few years ago. I loved being able to freeze it for several future mealtimes!

I have yorkies too, I did a similar slow cooker meal with beef. Boy they got really sick from beef. I did it again with ground turkey they did a lot better.

Omg My dog names is Bentley. He’s a 14yr old shihtzu. I also make his food in the crockpot. I use ground turkey, beef or chicken. Put I mix it with peas, carrots and sweet potatoe. I add a lil turmeric powder and parsley

I made this recipe with stew meat and baby carrots. My finicky dog loves it. I like your idea to buy already sliced vegetables. I used baby carrots. They were still tough after six hours of cooking. Next time I will get the sliced carrots.

Can’t wait to try too. Although I am like you. My dogs love chicken best. I wonder though do they get all the vitamins needed? I have seen people still add certain liquid vitamins to fresh food since not all the vitamin dogs need are in fresh food.
Great video! You may want to ask the vet about the beans. They can upset their stomach.

Best to Boil all meats separately even chicken so you can rinse rinse rinse the greasy water off until it runs clear then add meat last 30 minutes better for tummies #Pancreatitis #Diabetes

How do you store the food so it will keep for a week? Maybe more with your two small guys? You did add a powdered additive to the recipe in an earlier video....do you do that sometimes & not all the time?
I know when I cook for my pet I'll put some in the fridge and the rest in the freezer in amounts that they will eat and pull it out and heat it up as they want it.
How long will that amount of food last
I just made my first batch of home made dog food. I used my big electric roaster on the patio. I'm gong to freeze dry it when it's done. I thought about putting kidney beans in it but I thought it may give my dog diarrhea. Do you have any problems like that?

Also, one other thing. Dogs cannot digest vegetables like we can, it needs to be ground up in a food processor. I grabbed a small inexpensive food processor at target. Now you just need a good breed and health specific vitamin supplement from the Vet to have a complete and balanced diet. ♥️♥️
I’ve never fed my girl beans! I know it would be a very nutritious protein for her. I’m curious does it make the pups gassy?
Hi Becca , I am lucky that Bentley and Albert don't get gassy from the beans :)
I think every puppy is different, so may want to check with your Vet. I have had some that could eat anything and others that were very sensitive.
I have a Maltese poodle she is around 12..she loves shredded fresh pet chicken and carrots..it's good fresh food..you can freeze half of it..it comes from pet store or Target..there's other flavors. I give my puppy the shredded chicken or the small breed chicken..it's in the pet store in the. Fresh. Pet fridge section.. check it out..much easier than cooking...apples are good for pupps too. (Just no core or APPLE SEEDS)!!!!!!! CAN MAKE THEM SICK....I JUST SLICE AROUND APPLE TILL IT GETS CLOSE TO CORE...PUMPKIN SNACKS ARE GOOD FOR THEM TOO..AT PET STORES....BYE...

Apple seeds are fine in small quantity. They prevent cancer.
My vet has a dog nutritionist on referral that will make a feeding plan for your puppups she includes a few vitamins and minerals that dogs need that they can't get from people food. The vet clinic is Noah's Ark Veterinary Clinic Williamsburg,Va. 23188
The food looks great, but my concern is the fat content cooking everything together. Yorkies and multiple other breeds, are predisposed to pancreatitis, and a fat content over 18% of their total calorie intake from fat is the max. My yorkie is a rescue that came with a history of pancreatitis that almost killed her. I have to cook her food, but I can only use low 7% fat ground Turkey, organic chicken and low-fat grass fed ground beef (for a better omega 3 content) (cheap beef, meat.., is too high in omega 6). I drain off excess fat from the meat, I don’t want her organs damaged by a pancreatitis flare up.
Listen, rice was never good for human and I will never be good for dogs
