Matt D'Avella: doing all this work takes work and u should be compensated for it. It's frustrating whenever ppl always commenting "oh it's sponsored" and right away they accuse u of being a fraud not knowing that these videos take time, money, and effort. It's really ridiculous. Matt D'Avella yes you made me a minimalist but I think you're kind of fake your about money that's fine I got some UA-camrs are on here simply for-profit that's why I don't subscribe to nobody and I don't pay into people's patreon or go for me I never support nobody and never will so don't ever get my money so how do you don't do people get conned or the the stupid people follow all these videos blindly without to make doing their research on these UA-cam videos
Exactly! Minimalism, is not just about having the least things, it's about determining what actually adds value to your life, and keeping things that do. Which means if you 24 T-shirts works for you, by all means, go for it!
Say it with me. J U S T I F I C A T I O N. Ok what works for me is a garage full of Ferrari’s and a house full of crap. I need it all and it works and sparks joy for me..... NOOOO
@@ssing7113 Good use of hyperbole. If by having more of one or two things, it allows him to make the most out of other things, produce less waste, and consume less, it still counts as minimalism. He is minimizing the peripheral things he needs by maximizing in a few select areas. Minimalism is not asceticism. Minimalism is not having the least amount of things possible in order to survive. Minimalism is minimizing the things you have to things that make sense, are useful/used, don't clutter home/mind with little to no return, and maximizing the benefits gained from the posessions you do choose to own. In your example, hoarding an entire house full of stuff would do none of those things. Having more than 1 Ferrarri would do none of those things. Mainly because time is finite, and having so much, you wouldn't have time to use it all AND maintain it, thus letting things fall into disrepair and creating more waste.
Yep! I consider myself a minimalist now, but I still have over 100 nail polishes because I love doing nail art and that adds a lot of value to my life. It’s not about the number of things you have, it’s about everything that you have adding value to your life instead of being dormant or draining
To be fair you can only use one fork at a time, maybe two if you're very skilled, so you really don't need four. What's next, two coffee cups? Two chairs? Might as well start buying souvenir teddy bears everywhere you go.
People seem to confuse MINIMALISM with AUSTERITY based off those comments you mentioned... Austerity is more of a lifestyle where you strip down your entire life to the bare essentials and live within those means. Minimalism, which I feel gets a bad rap because its also called a lifestyle, at least to me, is more of a mindset which is opposed to consumerisms. That doesn't mean minimalists don't buy things or own more than the bare essentials. It just means they don't feel the need to participate in the consumer culture of today. That's just my two cents.
You seems to confuse. Austerity is a goverment manouver. Minimalism comes from "minimal", so you don't have to have the things that ar not necessary. 2 shirt is minimalism, 6 is just a regular guy. American people don't know how to live a normal life, we can left outside a "minimalist" life.
@@Knicols you missed the point. Minimalism is not about numbers of things you own, it's about being mindful of what's you gonna buy, and make sure they all gonna serve you in your life one way or another, instead of buying just for the sake of owning stuffs.
The thing is, I watched the documentary, I decided to go minimalist (at least try to). I opened my drawers to clean and realized that I already have 14 t-shirts, 2 pants and 3 pairs of shoes and some socks. I checked other stuff to get rid off and all I have is, two bed sheets and school books. I've been using the same pen for school for over 6 years. I thought going minimalist was something for me but the thing is, I was born minimalist.
I feel the same way. I recall hearing about the minimalists just when the blog was starting and I felt like they were talking about me. It's too late now, people will think I'm a hipster now. But the things is that I just hate having stuff around me
When I first started, I got rid of most of my T-shirt’s, ending with 8 (1 for every day of the week +1 for laundry day). I had to wash them so often that most of them had to be replaced within a year. Now I have closer to 15-20 T-shirt’s, and they’re lasting a lot longer. I can run a full load instead of filling the washing machine half way and wasting all that energy. It’s all about finding your balance.
@@ryan5668 It kind of does though, right? Part of the reason to be a minimalist can be to live with less stress. 10 shirts = double the washing. 10 shirts = double the number of times you need to go out and buy new shirts. Of course, this mostly seems to relate with things that have a constant wear & tear or are consumed rapidly. Otherwise, less stuff would always = less stress I feel like.
12 PANCAKES?!?!? A minimalist would never eat 12 pancakes! I will have you know that I (a true minimalist) manage to subsist off of the dew of a single ginkgo leaf and the energy of the universe. :D P.S. I hope you got the reference.
Oh my God Matt! How can you call yourself a minimalist? You have two feet, you should have just one and hop! It would save on socks and shoes!! People are so judgemental, everyone’s minimalism is different. And I loved the t shirt maths 😂 xx
If u actually look at the footage again, you'll notice both in white and black t-shirt pictures, in reality there are only 3 or 4. And the rest are all identical images of those 3 or 4 tshirts.. Check that out
I'm so glad minimalism is a thing. I am not one, and don't claim to be. I like stuff and clutter ( eek don't hate me!) but it's really made me think of what stuff and clutter I like, and which I don't. It's made me realise that I don't need to keep everything. I used to be a bit of a hoarder, because I may need this sometime in 20 years, maybe. Now find it really satisfying to get ride of things that don't need right now. I still have a lot of stuff. But it's all stuff that makes me happy.
I've been looking into the minimalist movement a lot lately (in a desire to declutter and simplify my life) and ran into the same challenge - what exactly qualifies as minimalist? Ultimately, I have concluded that the term has no actual definition. I believe it's more about making conscious decisions as to how we live our lives, the things we keep in our homes, and the ways we choose to spend our time. I didn't want to spend 20 minutes cleaning and re-organizing my washroom counter every week. So, I took all the crap off of it, donated/tossed the stuff I wasn't using and now the only things living on my counter are hand soap and a vase of dried lavender. Cleaning it takes 2 minutes :) Another great video Matt, cheers!
Thanks. At the very least the word gets a conversation started which is a good thing. Everyone seems to have their open opinion on what it means to be a minimalist. Not sure it would have gone so far if the word wasn't there. Kind of like tacos.
Yeah, that is how I see it. Basically get rid of clutter in your life. If it's unnecessary to your daily, chunk it. Is it sucking up too much time out of your day? Get. Rid. Of. It. Less is more.
Eating to Live You mean you have a soap that's made JUST FOR YOUR HANDS??!! Do you have a special soap just for your butt too? THAT'S NOT MINIMALISM!!! LOL! Sarcasm font needed!
I love this approach, it's what isn't adding that conscious value to your life to me. My husband and I are moving and I've always loved the sleek minimal/contemporary styles of homes and I want that more for us. Not for just the look although it's nice, there's so much daily on shelves or tables we do not use. What is the point?! I want whatever is out to be used and not pack things with us we don't need or use. My goal is to toss what we aren't using daily. Less to clean, less clutter and a more peaceful space I think at least if we can do that.
paper2222 Know who that person is? I’m my own friend lol so it gives me strength, regardless what shit I have to go through. It’s truly devastating that you’re friendless
Sometimes people miss the main idea of minimalism. Minimalism isn't just about the number of things we own, it's bigger than that, it's about defining what we value most. I like your video Matt, keep the good work!
Then call it something else. No one in this comment section sounds intelligent for misappropriating minimalism. The reason people are confused is because Matt is claiming he’s minimalist when he’s really just organized.
Keep them. You probably benefit from having so many plants in your house. I can't say I know of any research that links plants to better health outcomes, but I reckon that having plants in your home can't hurt you. I gotta ask though.. Do you talk to your plants? My coworker, lovely lady, talks to her plants. I smile and say nothing.
@@DanChainsawman Plants in the home clean the air, there are so many different kinds that do so much like for example Snake plants, they remove toxins like formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, benzene and xylene. Maybe you could google them individually and find out more, and I love the idea of playing healing music to them XD
@@erikoetoile8890 It takes a lot of plants per sqft to do this to any statistically significant degree, so I think he totally can justify more plants :)
This problem transcends into every identity lifestyle. This is why labels suck. For example: I eat a mainly vegan diet to stay in shape but also allow myself to eat whatever(including meat) on a night out with the boys & other occasions. Although i don’t identify as vegan EVER... people see what I eat daily, assign that label(and therefore the rules that apply) and then try to shame or question me when I eat meat. Labels suck & Minimalism like anything else is just a broad mindset that people share about the value of stuff. People get too wrapped up in the rules. Thanks for this video!
I fully agree. For some reason we like to categorize things into neat little silos, but that doesn't work all the time, and certainly doesn't make for a wholesome view of the world, or the individual.
I didn't see the shirt video but would have assumed it was based on cleaning schedule. Some people don't understand that a Nomad Minimalist is not the same as Stationary one. Minimalism is relative to the person with the goal of maximizing your life while minimizing your stuff. Doing laundry more often is not an efficient use of time. So when lifestyle allows "more" shirts is more effective. It focuses on Minimizing laundry time.
Minimalist is just another label to look beyond. It’s not one size fits all, nothing worthwhile is. If forks and t-shirts and haircuts enhance your life and make it better, great. If they bring stress and any kind of discomfort, that’s something to pay attention to. Minimalism is not a numbers game.
Very true!! I get panic attacks when my house is dirty or just about any part of my house. If there is too much clutter I cannot function and my husband never understood what I meant, until he watched the film with me. Thank goodness 😅
Can not agree more. Minimalism is not a numbers game, it's about how you keep something that you valuable most. And I think the number of things will depend of our daily activities.
Minimalism is kind of like vegetarianism or veganism. You tell people you don’t eat meat because you care about animals and they tell you plants have feelings too....but since when are they concerned with harming others or morality...you tell someone you live minimally and they point out how you have too many shirts or books...when they have a closet full of stuff
Agreed. Once it becomes almost like a religion, that's when it puts off would-be minimalists from joining the movement because heaven forbid they don't get rid of enough stuff
You realize you aren't normal as a vegan if you aren't down everyone else's throat about eating meat, though, eh? Btw, its counterproductive to go down someone's throat about eating meat, since the act involuntarily makes them a cannibal.
Next time someone tells you plants have feelings, you might want to reply something like, 'I've heard that several times, but I doubt it's true. Plants don't have a brain or a central nervous system, so they can't feel pain or emotion.' A little science often shuts people up. :)
After watching your documentary in Netflix, I immediately started thinking on how to start to become a minimalist. Now, I've been organizing my stuff based on their functionality. Less clutter, less stress. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Keep making videos like this. (Hope I can go to the gym 5x a week. LOL)
Minimalism is a mindset, those people are thinking way too much like people think about vegans, and going way too much into how they want it to be rather than how the community of minimalism and veganism are to those individuals which gives both of them a bad name because of those thinking negatively about those things, those people do it to try and ruin a community so I just ignore them. Minimalism is what it means to that person!
Thanks for the explanation! I myself was thinking “Why so many shirts?” after the wardrobe video but when you actually look at the math then yes it makes perfect sense. Love your videos!
I aspire to be more minimalist but it takes times and everyone is always improving. Those seeking perfection will be seeking misery because it doesn't exist. Everything has blurred lines and you can choose to define the way you live or are as you please. You cannot tell someone else they don't feel or live a certain way. Inspirational Matt, keep going dude. I think it's very educational and inspiring regardless of if people would adopt the lifestyle themselves.
Minimalism to me is reducing hassle. It's kind of like why I never lie; It's not a moral decision, it's a simplicity decision. Life is incredibly easier if you just tell the truth and see what happens. No need to hold onto lies. It's easier to go out when you only have one outfit. Easier to focus when nothing is disrupting your engagement.
Great video... and after seeing you mention the Minimalism documentary, I went over to Netflix to watch it (for the 2nd time, because I watched it a while back)... My wife and I are slowly moving our family closer and closer to being minimalists. We’ve been decluttering for a while, but in our most recent cleanup, we just donated 25 full sized trash bags of stuff and also had a “bulk pickup” trash pickup come by to take about 10 moving boxes worth of junk away! Decluttering our lives has already begun to declutter our minds...
My mom and I really love your documentary! We watched it a while ago, when we were kinda in the middle of getting into minimalism (after becoming enamoured with zero waste and cutting waaaaaaaaay back on our plastic use). Now we’re well on our way in the minimalist journey. Also, it’s so easy to have a tiny wardrobe when you’re both seamstresses and can repair your sturdy homemade clothes...
Your videos made me wanna be a minimalist. I thought at first that I would have to get rid of everything, but this approach, I not only can see the benefit, it's very appealing. Thank you. I love balance and hate extremes, which is what it seems like most people enjoy. It's either TOO MUCH STUFF or NOTHING and anything in between doesn't count. I feel like its the in between that is what we need to focus on really. Edit: Also thank you for teaching me I can do my laundry less and not feel like a slob and that it would actually take better care of my clothes XDD
I love your videos. They are so precise and crisp. There’s something so satisfying about seeing minimal stuff in your backdrop always. Call me crazy, but it gives me a sense of peace and comfort lol. I don’t understand why some people have an issue with how others lead their lives and have all these negative comments to throw at someone. I’d think it comes from a place of insecurity of some sort. Great work Matt! You’re an inspiration and I’m glad you made this video
I love this video. Yes, my idea of minimalism was loving with nothing. The documentary changed my idea of what it means for ME. I think that is the whole point. Living with brings value to your life. Keep it up Matt.
Great video. Wise words and great responses. Dealing with comments and people like that can’t be easy but you do it with a calm inner confidence that is true to yourself without trying to force everyone to be the same. Something we can all learn from. Well done! Cheers!
I'm laughing because I thought you had a lot of tee shirts but I don't judge your minimalism. LOL. Gosh, I miss living alone where I didn't have to do laundry daily for our family of five (even with capsule wardrobes). Haha. This was a great conversation. I also gain a lot to think about and I love your podcast.
Love the minimalist movie and your channel. Totally changed the way I think about stuff and how I live my life. You all are doing such an amazing service for so many. Thanks for all you do!
Haters will hate bro, but the truth is you are doing something in this life that can gives us a better perspective in adding value in life. I watch your videos not just to copy the idea of being a minimalist. Rather seeing a person who gives his mind to set an example of how can we be just happy of what we have. more power to you Matt 👍👍👍
I just watched your documentary, but I had no idea it was made by you! It was amazing and awe inspiring. Made me appreciate the little and beautiful things life has to offer
I have to say I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! I just found out about you a few weeks ago and I am already subscribed to your channel, podcast and newsletter. I am so into your content and your way of presenting it. Thank you so much.
This is such a good video! I very recently decided to embrace minimalism and have gotten rid of over half of my possessions. I have felt like I couldn't/shouldn't call myself minimalist because I kept 25 pairs of shoes.
The thing with people like this, I think, is that I doubt they are happy with how they lead their own lives. Failing to control themselves, they try to control other people.
Wow I never realised you made that documentary! I’m suddenly blown away by that fact even though I know you are by trade a filmmaker... go figure! I’m really inspired by how in control you are of the way you make money and the way you pursue a career that you are invested in... I’m trying to guide my future in a way that I’m in control of, but I’m struggling to have the confidence to know that I can survive on the less-well-travelled path instead of just taking the sheltered route. You’re an inspiration to me, so thank you for your videos!
But wait....... YOU HAVE 58K SUBSCRIBERS?!?!?! A MINIMALIST CANNOT HAVE 58K SUBSCRIBERS!!! Now take your snake oil and sell it somewhere, ya charlatan!
I made a vlog about minimalism too, but I deleted it........ ‘CAUSE I’M MORE OF A MINIMALIST THAN YOU ARE! #minimalismcompetition #ifimwinningyourelosing #toomanyhashtags
I love your UA-cam channel so much!!!! The other day I took a hard look at my room and went and got everything I don’t use!!! Half my closet space is open, all my draws are clean and organized and I just let go of things ik I will never wear again !!!! Seriously I’m inspired to keep downsizing some more and have the things a need and invest in quality of goods, people and relationships!!!
Hey Matt, Im from Cancún, México. I loved "the minimalists"you made, it was like cold water in the morning for me, you made me realize to many things at my early 22. Congrats for the message you deliver.
I love the Minimalist documentary I didn't know who filmed it! Good job kind sir, it was moving and couldn't have been done without you. I tried the minimalist lifestyle but I ruined my life because I didn't make conscious decisions, I made extremely impulsive ones. But I'm working on getting back into it and taking the true value from it.
I think other minimalist videos gives me anxiety. However, after watching your 'A Day in the life of Minimalist' I started down this rabbit hole of 'Tidying Up with Marie Kondo' and then back to watching your videos again and several times at that. I figured out that a lot of the things I have I just have for no reason and as I watch them am on a mission to remove the things that no longer bring me joy. Your video of being more productive by being a minimalist makes sense to me and what I've always wanted to do by traveling and living a simple lifestyle. I think the clothes you have is more than what I initially thought of as a minimalist, but is enough for someone like me to have a simple life. Even cutting my daily routine by 20 minutes would mean that I can be at my 9-5 sooner and plan out my day better and make it meaningful and intentional. Keep Up these videos. I find them purposeful and great for someone that is tired of being things on amazon just to get the dose of dopamine for no reason and then sits in my home gathering dust.
I've noticed that people don't even try to think of why some, for example you, Matt, have "so many" t-shirts or don't think outside certain numbers. Or another thing, those people, who are extremely extreme minimalists who could be called "frugalists" always say that others are hoarders just because everyone has more things that they do.
You will always get negative feedback in social media. Some people just like to bring the worst of people trying to to some good. Remember what you do has a bigger positive impact, most people don't react in social media but learned from it. I really appreciate the minimalist documentary, I'm starting my own minimalist lifestyle after watching it, thank you so much. Keep on.
I wonder how that guy would feel if he had to be in the vicinity of someone who didn't wear a clean shirt everyday. He should be glad that you have 24 shirts
I’ve been incorporating more minimalism when it comes to my lifestyle lately and I find the videos you make really helpful. Thank you for taking the time out to create these insightful contents 🧡
This was the first video I watched from you 🥺 It was a fairly new when I watched it, I don't know why I had the urge right now to look up how long I've been watching your content. But kinda makes me emotional 💜
There is no set way to live Minimal. So you have 24 t-shirts. Thats great! I have 200 t-shirts. I’m minimal in my own way. Its all about how you live your life. You’re awesome Matt D’Avella!! Keep on with your minimalist way in whatever way it is!!
I think minimalism means when you do not have stuff that you do not use. Unused T-shirts, Shoes that you haven't worn in 2 years, Cluttered, tangles wires in a drawer box that you do not open because you fear tangled wires.
Sure minimalism isn't totally defined but there are certain boxes you have to tick to call yourself a minimalist and as long as you're not a tshirt designer you cant have 200 t-shirts and call yourself a minimalist
if everybody is a minimalist, then the word has no meaning to distinguish it from the word everybody. Everybody coming up with their own definitions of words only results in nobody understanding what the other person is saying. Generally, one should think of a minimalist as a 'person who is striving for minimalism'. While this could result in real world scenarios where in achieving that goal you may have 5 forks, part of the journey of minimalism would be receiving advise/criticism that you could do with just having 1 and how to do it. And then because of your journey to minimalism, you would try to change yourself accordingly. This a opposed to non-minimalists who may have multiple copies of items with little to no striving to reduce what they have.
My mom and sister are always telling my that i could never be a minimalist because i like clothes and makeup but they also get mad when i try to get rid of things. Seeing this video is super important to me because it gives me hope that i can do it.
What i have understood minimalism is just essentialism, keeping things with you having values to it,and using them all. I am just teen, and as excatly wants to be ,your ideas making my thinking easy. Tysm Matt, lov u ❤️
Its been 6 years now But im still watching your video over and over, you really boost up my mood every day and reminding me what kind person I wanted to be. Thanks matt
I have encountered minimalism years ago, i used to call myself a "minimalist", i thought that when i just wear black clothes, im one. So i had tons of black blouses/dresses. I didnt fully understand the concept until ~5months ago. I now unterstand that it is a way of life, not based on the no. Of stuff i own. I still have most of my clothes n stuff BUT i dont buy as much stuff in a span of little time. And by that, I have save enough to prepare for a time im my life when i will not be paid enough, "medical fellowship". I am too shy to ask for my parents to support me after putting me thru medschool. It was wen i bump into the MINIMALISM doc that i truly truly understood and fully practiced the concept by heart. So thank u Matt, Josh and Ryan and all other minimalists out there for introducing this to me.
This is comforting. After I found this channel and, soon after, seeing the documentary I started getting rid of clutter and clothes I wasn't particularly fond of like a crazy person throwing stuff out the window. And then there were the books. I couldn't do it. I seriously doubt that I'll ever re-read the Last Unicorn, and the hassle of explaining why it is such a great book despite the title probably isn't worth it, but I couldn't part with something that had such a transformative impact in my life. And there were so many more of these and a bunch more I hadn't read. So Minimalism was not for me , I thought. And if that were the case, it would be alright. For me, the experience of minimalism has been less than a label, an identity, or a criteria of the number of things I'm supposed to have and more of a framework that informs my decisions. Going back to books, it resulted in a compromise of reading every single one on my shelf and I can only buy one if I can knock one of the "to read" list. I think there was a point in there somewhere...
I have an ongoing conflict or struggle with the books in my efficiency apartment. I've accumulated, I'm embarrassed to say, maybe 2,000 books that haven't been read yet. Most of the books are in boxes along a wall. I finally realized I have a problem and I cleared out a little over 300 books but I find new ones. The difficult part is I really want to read the books I have but the presence/clutter of so many has been causing me stress for a number of years. I've gone through my books twice and probably should do so at least one more time and ask myself how much I really want to read a book. I simply have to use self-discipline to stay away from Little Free Libraries and Free Days at book sale fundraisers and make more time to read the books I have then give them away though I'll always have a small permanent group of special books. The difficulty for me it's that moment of deciding to give a book away: ow! Once a book is gone I feel fine. I've also started an In and Out list of book titles and my plan is to make the Out list bigger than the In! Other than books I own very little and my living space could probably be cleared out in one day.
Conscience decisions that make you happy , that’s a minimalism life for me , it’s not about how many stuff you have, but given value to the ones you do have .
What I took from this video is that it’s not so much as having too much, but using what you have. In other words, if you don’t use it, you don’t need it. Awesome. I’m learning so much from Matt. I recently began minimizing and although it gets stressful at times, it’s rewarding.

"I do my laundry every other week" This might sound stupid, but it would be amazing if you could make a small video about your laundry routine. Is it like a non-negotiable that you do it every other week? Do you do it at home?
Hi Matt, eventhough I am not a Minimalist by any definition, I have learned (and practiced :)) a lot. I have cleared my closet, and got more organized than ever. Now every time I go for shopping I do with intention. Thanks for your movie and your videos.
It’s not about minimalism, it’s about living up to your standards and no one else’s. If like the idea of minimalism, you don’t have to do it perfectly like others, do it however you want.
Love your quote "Minimalism at its core is about intentionality. I's about making conscience decisions about how we live our lives, the things that we consume and buy and how we lead our lives" If I could change the definition of minimalism in the dictionary I would use this quote! Keep up the great work!
I've found myself interested in minimalism recently, after I decluttered my home using the KonMari method. Perhaps you could, if you want, make a video about what minimalism is and how to start the process? Btw, loved this video Matt
Thanks!! Currently getting into a minimalist mindset. Three children, 4 pets, husband and myself. I wondered how, but after your video I see how I can have a minimalist mindset and not become the teacher who wears the same dress every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 🥰🤣🤣 Also thank you for the breakdown of how to determine how many t-shirts you need. My children have tons of shirts!! (They also the have 9 aunts)!!! I will consider our lifestyle and work numbers that are reasonable for us.
All of this is good stuff! I love your videos there’s something so informative & peaceful about your voice lol idk what it is. I’ve been decluttering my life for about 2 weeks now and i feel GREAT!! Thanks for the videos!! VIDEO REQUEST: Can you talk about minimalist style? I notice all the rooms I see in pics are light colors with light furniture and modern looking furniture. I’m definitely a farmhouse/rustic/ traditional type person & have a dark brown leather couch. Seems like my home will never look like a minimalist house lol seems silly but look it up! I haven’t found anything online, maybe I’m lookin in the wrong spots
I loved the film! I had my husband watch your film and he has now agreed to get rid of a lot of things. Thank goodness because I get panic attacks. I cannot function when the house is dirty or when there is too much clutter but he never got what I meant. I just hate clutter and it makes me feel claustrophobic and decluttering makes me feel much better. After watching your film his all perspective change. I also consider this to be a fantastic thing since my Environmental Class made me realize how much trash we humans produce so overall, it has helped me a lot. Thank you so much 😊 and I hope others understand that minimalism is about keeping things that bring happiness into your life!
You have made a big difference in my life and I've started decluttering a few things and feel alot better in general with my anxiety levels. Thank you.

@@ssing7113 This made me really laugh hahahahahahaha
Yep! I consider myself a minimalist now, but I still have over 100 nail polishes because I love doing nail art and that adds a lot of value to my life. It’s not about the number of things you have, it’s about everything that you have adding value to your life instead of being dormant or draining
There are not only some fool people (haters), there're also too many wise people like you ❤️
Other content creators haters: Your exploiting kids for money!
Matts haters: You have too many forks!
Ridiculous
Thanks for that. Made my day a bit better
To be fair you can only use one fork at a time, maybe two if you're very skilled, so you really don't need four. What's next, two coffee cups? Two chairs? Might as well start buying souvenir teddy bears everywhere you go.
TOO MANY FORKS!!!!
I mean, do you not invite people to your house to eat? Or do you ask them to bring their own forks?
There are too many pixels in this video. A true minimalist would use 144p.

This is a great comment
I've never heard of that word Austerity.

Elliot Austere same for me I only needed to declutter my sentimental items and old papers.
That's great! It's kinda silly when you think about it. The fact that we need help getting rid of stuff that we don't use.
what a beast
I feel the same way. I recall hearing about the minimalists just when the blog was starting and I felt like they were talking about me. It's too late now, people will think I'm a hipster now. But the things is that I just hate having stuff around me
How have you managed to keep this one pen over 6 years? That must be a magical pen. Mine disappear on the regular.

Olga S-Cruz you got it
Exactly. Less you have, the more you wash. The less they last.
@@deathbystereo- But whether you have 10 shirts that you replace every 1, or 20 shirts that you replace every 2 years, it doesn't really matter.
As long as you make sure you actually use all of those 20 shirts, and none of them just sit in your closet.
Is there a confusion between minimalism and (anti-)materialism? It seems that the critical comments were more about anti-materialism.
Sounds like it. I was also thinking confusion between minimalism and asceticism

Sofie Aspeslagh same, there is clutter I choose, like a full closet of cool clothes and clutter I don’t, like piles of old books and dvds.
Eating to Live why you wanna join a movement be youre own.

Sometimes people miss the main idea of minimalism. Minimalism isn't just about the number of things we own, it's bigger than that, it's about defining what we value most. I like your video Matt, keep the good work!

The reason people are confused is because Matt is claiming he’s minimalist when he’s really just organized.
I'm pretty new to minimalism and i love it but i have about 50 indoor plants and they bring joy to me
Keep them. You probably benefit from having so many plants in your house. I can't say I know of any research that links plants to better health outcomes, but I reckon that having plants in your home can't hurt you.
I gotta ask though..
Do you talk to your plants?

Minimalism is relative to the person with the goal of maximizing your life while minimizing your stuff.
Doing laundry more often is not an efficient use of time. So when lifestyle allows "more" shirts is more effective. It focuses on Minimizing laundry time.
Aaron Doud amen!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

Agree. Real minimalist say minimal words.
Terry Magram Well said👏👏👏
Praise🙌🏻
Had no idea you produced that film!!!
It was the reason I became a minimalist. Pretty dope!
Absolutely! There is an ancient proverb about "trying to remove a splinter out of your brother's eye while you have a plank in your own eye."
Jesse Smith exactly. It's your life, as long as you aren't harming another human, people should leave you alone with your own choices.
I like when non-minimalist criticize minimalists...
LOL)
Not very minimalist to go to the gym 5x a week tho 😅
People who judge other people online for their minimalist scale are the worst, live n let live man Jah bless

This is so funny. Matt, you look like the minimalist that you want to be and that's all that matters. Keep up the good work.
This explains a lot. I was a bit sceptical at first, but now I get it...sort of
I think other minimalist videos gives me anxiety.
Lord I miss quality content like this. Happy I found you. I cried when this movie FINALLY came out btw. Was so happy. Great job.

There is no set way to live Minimal. So you have 24 t-shirts. Thats great! I have 200 t-shirts. I’m minimal in my own way. Its all about how you live your life. You’re awesome Matt D’Avella!! Keep on with your minimalist way in whatever way it is!!
why would you need 200 t shirts..? When you say minimal in your own way, does than mean the racks you left behind in said stores..?!! ;-)
Cobb True that!
My mom and sister are always telling my that i could never be a minimalist because i like clothes and makeup but they also get mad when i try to get rid of things. Seeing this video is super important to me because it gives me hope that i can do it.

Its been 6 years now But im still watching your video over and over, you really boost up my mood every day and reminding me what kind person I wanted to be. Thanks matt
You should have told that person to stick a fork in it!!!
Nooooooo!!!!!! I BLEW IT.

"I do my laundry every other week"
This might sound stupid, but it would be amazing if you could make a small video about your laundry routine.
Love your quote
"Minimalism at its core is about intentionality. I's about making conscience decisions about how we live our lives, the things that we consume and buy and how we lead our lives"
If I could change the definition of minimalism in the dictionary I would use this quote!
Wake up sheeple. He has over 3 million subscribers. A true minimalist would only need 1
Great vid mate! It’s about being intentional with what you have and where your money goes, loved the doco, changed our lives!
Awesome videos! keep it up the good work! cheers from Ecuador!
All of this is good stuff! I love your videos there’s something so informative & peaceful about your voice lol idk what it is. I’ve been decluttering my life for about 2 weeks now and i feel GREAT!! Thanks for the videos!!

Can you talk about minimalist style? I notice all the rooms I see in pics are light colors with light furniture and modern looking furniture. I’m definitely a farmhouse/rustic/ traditional type person & have a dark brown leather couch. Seems like my home will never look like a minimalist house lol seems silly but look it up! I haven’t found anything online, maybe I’m lookin in the wrong spots
"too many forks" LOL
I loved the film! I had my husband watch your film and he has now agreed to get rid of a lot of things. Thank goodness because I get panic attacks. I cannot function when the house is dirty or when there is too much clutter but he never got what I meant. I just hate clutter and it makes me feel claustrophobic and decluttering makes me feel much better. After watching your film his all perspective change. I also consider this to be a fantastic thing since my Environmental Class made me realize how much trash we humans produce so overall, it has helped me a lot. Thank you so much 😊 and I hope others understand that minimalism is about keeping things that bring happiness into your life!
sometimes haters comments are so damn funny and ridiculous, they never fail to crack me up lol
You have made a big difference in my life and I've started decluttering a few things and feel alot better in general with my anxiety levels. Thank you.
The 24 t-shirt math 😁
I'm going to title me memoir, "The Power of 24 T-Shirts"
Matt D'Avella's next target after The Rock's podcast 😄
did you see The Rock figure on the coffee table XD
Love the maths aswell, what’s your maths on the socks and underwear?
I don't care how many shirts he has......but a gym shirt sitting for 2 weeks has got to get pretty smelly lol.
