@@GrumpyEyeGaming Definitely not a ship with much use, i agree. I mostly am banking on its future combat capability as it will use special ammo to start fire and other type of effect within its target. This will make it VERY valuable to cause panic within larger ship as unlike the torpedoes, you cant intercept canon shot and thus i expect the Perseus to be one of the more effective capital ship disruptor.

I had an extra C8X LTI CCU sitting around just for the Perseus. I melted some fighters, a few ground vehicles and 2 Cutlass, a black & blue. So now I have an LTI Perseus and I love the concept. IMO the cargo might get larger since the Ursa barely fits in the Connie and it has 96 SCU. The Perseus was originally built heavily armored without shields because they didn't have the tech. at that time, now it has 2 large shields. I believe you will need lots of small - med fighters to bother the Perseus. Since it has a longe range being a patrol/gun boat, fighters will have to be carrier based, unless heavy fighters, but then they are slower to maneuver, thus easier for those dual size 7 turrets to track, especially when it will also have a selection of different ballistic ammo types and S 5 torps. Even John Crew stated that when originally concepted the Perseus was designed to have 4 crew, but put in 2 more slots because the ship looked empty. This is my Boomstick ! There might be many, but this one is Mine ... and it has VTOL too.
From what I understand, the point defence turrets come stock with AI blades built in to the Perseus, but if you want, you can take them over as a maned remote turret. CIG also said that since the size 7 turrets are bespoke, they will have multiple ammo types, such as flack/explosive, incendiary, armor piercing and possibly shotgun type or deuterium rounds (like radioactive) that have a extended effect on ship hull and systems. So possibilities that there is a reason for the price tag. As you can tell, I like the Perseus.

It is intresting that non of the videos i seen so far talks about heavy armor ignoring smaller weapons. Kapital size ships built for battle can get komponent damage from size 7 weapons and probably only light damage from size 6. So fighters with size 6 weapons and larger will be able to damage components on this ship but most fighters are around size 5 and down. So depending of how sig implements armours even if you get swarmed it will more be a stale mate.

For the price they need to add either a brig or a small medical bay...perhaps even both. I mean, it's expensive and it's a military ship, it woudn't be an absurd proposition, especially for a ship the same size of a Galaxy that costs almost half as much. If they do that than I can see the Perseus being THE military ship for all PvE content, like a bigger and better version of a Vanguard Harbinger.

  • @samisuhonen9815

I don't think the Perseus will be as bad against fighters as people think. Sure, it won't be as good at the role as the hammerhead, otherwise that ship among many others would be obsolete.
But like, one or two fighters won't spell the doom of a Perseus. It has large shields, and in addition at least in design and lore, it is a MASSIVELY armored ship. The guns are large, yes. They are probably slow to turn. But you should still be able to hit even fighters occasionally. And if you do hit, there will be huge damage. The remote turrets also cover the ship, and if one or two fighters orbit you, they will die to the turrets before dealing serious damage to the Perseus.
But being able to defend itself against a couple fighters, still doesn't mean it can even remotely perform the role of the hammerhead. The hammerhead is able to provide a deadly screen of anti-fighter fire, enough to cover other targets in its' area. And when it comes to a proper fighter swarm, the Perseus will fare much worse. It's not able to put pressure on multiple ships like the Hammerhead. It might be able to knock out one or two fighters, but not survive against a proper swarm.
My point is, that if you plan on flying the Perseus without a fleet, it should be fine in most situations. Like if you provide some mercenary service. Maybe you do mainly fps and need a ship that can ferry your soldiers, their gear, a ground vehicle, provide fire support, and fend off bigger threats in space. And for piracy, a Persus could be a good flagship. It can definitely punch holes into large valuable targets, and then provide cover while your crew does some looting.
Obviously the Perseus will be greatly enhanced in the flagship rope, by the presence of a small fleet. Like for ground operations, you might want a medical ship to treat the wounded. You might want a dropship for faster landings and inserts. For big fleet battles, you will definitely want support ships that excel at the anti-fighter role. Like Hurricanes could be really good to protect the Perseus from being swarmed.
Lastly, it is noteworthy that the shell types might play a role. CIG has floated around ideas about the Perseus cannons being able to be fed different types of shells with the ability switch in the middle of firing. Like explosive splash damage rounds against infantry and unarmored targets. Proximity exploding flak rounds to shred careless fighter formations before they get close. And armor piercing rounds for defeating heavily armored ships and punching damage through shields.
If they don't abandon this mechanic, the Perseus will have a much stronger capability to nuke fighters with area denial proximity detonating shells. It will still have a weakness for overwhelming swarms of fighters getting close. But the actual act of getting close would be way harder.

I think the Q&A said the guns were bespoke. Which probably means you can't swap them out. CIG said the ship is meant to be used against "large" ships. So, less than capital size.

  • @Gary_The_Metro

I assume they'll also be giving the option to choose ballistic cannons over gattlings right?
Infact I am not sure if they are the same guns, looking at the concept art of the turrets (although obviously that's concept art and not a ship) the guns look quite different from the ares inferno's gun. Which seems like a very intentional move.

  • @strongback6550
    @strongback6550 2 роки тому +1

My perspective on how this ship works is that it's a huge aggro magnet because if you ignore it, it will keep clapping with torpedoes and S7 cannons at you, dealing unacceptable amount of damage.
Meanwhile if you attack it, the defensive guns of the cargo ship you are guarding will clap the fighters that are the biggest problem for Perseus.

  • @Arkticus
    @Arkticus 2 роки тому +2

...until proven otherwise, I don't think you can compare the Ares' S7 guns with the Ballistic Cannons on the Perseus, other than "because they're the same size" (and most _definitely not_ the same guns). In terms of power, I think it's much more feasible to look at the Slayer Cannon on the Nova Tonk, which is S5, but in terms of raw alpha damage (at least according to erkul.games) only second to the S10 Destroyer Mass Driver Cannon (as far as we can tell, as I couldn't find numbers for the latter, and the Slayers is the highest when sorting by alpha damage). But, you know, two sizes bigger. And it's supposed to be able to use different types of shells. So saying that it's equivelant to 4 Ares' of either configuration, doesn't seem all that accurate to me.
But more importantly, and this a hill I'm willing to die on, is that no, they should never add anything to the Perseus. It should not be made in any way multi-capable, because 1) that's the Polaris' (or other larger ships) job, not the Perseus', and 2) adding anything to its current design would be superfluous to requirements (a fancy way of saying, its design is perfect as it is, stop it). Its mission is to be a (interstellar) coastal defense gunboat and a (fleet) force multiplier, at the lowest possible requirement of crew and the highest amount of practical firepower, while still being economic to make and maintain (from an in-universe logic point of view, and it should be partially true in-game as well). That's it. And that's how a military ship should be. It's design for the military, not the civilian/militia market (despite them now being in-universe sold for such purposes "because of the Vanduul"), so it has a specific role it's meant to fulfill and nothing more. It patrols in systems where it has easy access to a friendly base or a planet that has any or all of the facilities it doesn't (medical support, holding cells...), or it operates as apart of a fleet group where the larger ships have those sorts of things instead (Polaris, Idris, Javelin, all the way up to the Bengal). It's not designed for independent operation, because, as you said, it's a one trick pony of a support ship.
That said, it doesn't mean that it can't do piracy or bounty hunting. First, with regards to pirating, I think this will be one of the most terryfying raiding ships in the game, much due to what I said above (though I agree, it's not carrying off the loot itself, but what sort of a pirate group would go anywhere without a Catepillar or two?), and scondly/in conjunction to that, capturing people alive is something I can see this ship being able to do, simply does to one mechanic. Death of a Spaceman (ignoring the NPCs for now, though they should also have a "surrender" option, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle). Because this is a game where getting blown to space dust is supposed to have consequences, surrendering to people that outgun you, at least to me, makes surrendering a valid option. And if I'm anywhere near right about the firepower this thing is supposed to have, and considering its introduction in lore was a "one of these appeared and made a rebelling planet collectively go 'oh crap!' and rethink their actions", I'd say this ship will most likely have the necessary intimidation factor where that becomes a thing. And I don't know about you, but I can practically hear the potential pirate captains salivating over the prospect of operating a Perseus with 3 people (maybe less with blades/NPCs), and a couple Caterpillars with a couple of people each and being able to rob the cargo of who knows how many ships with as little cuts into their earnings as possible...
Now, would I recommend anyone to buy this for real money? No, unless you find any part of what's said above in anyway interesting and have the disposable income, I would never recommend a ship like this (or most large/multi crew ships for that matter) other than as an in-game purchase. And, as you said, it's a one trick pony, as it absolutely should be.
Sorry for the wall of text, but as you might have noticed, I have some opinions when it comes to the Perseus (having one as something of a crown jewel of my personal little fleet may have some hand in that. Maybe. Just a little), and being someone who's been supporting/following the game since 2013, I also have a number of opinions on that. Now, I'm not saying that I'm right, about , really, anything (add the headstamp of "Under development" here), and there is every chance that I will be proven completely wrong, but until that day this is what I choose to go with. That said, while I disagree with you on some things I did enjoy the video, and you got a new sub. Keep up the good work, and looking forward to future videos.

    Here is a big butt:
Looking at the smaller than subcapital ships... You are very unlikely to run into smaller than subcapital ships in the outer reaches of space. Because they don't have quantum drives, or they have a very small range.
So in that sense, a Perseus may end up being effective even outside of bigger combat situations that involve capital class ships, as long as it's far enough removed from planets. And if there's a platform that supports fighters in the middle of nowhere (for instance a Kraken) this is an excellent ship to blow that to smithereens.

If not ignored greatly reduced, with enough practice and tactics.. many small to medium fighters will get one shot trying to close distance.

It would still be vulnerable to fighters swarming it if they get close. But at least it would be a bit harder to get close if you can be peppered with a wall of proximity detonating shells.

I think fighters isn't a worry for this ship. I'm pretty sure CIG wanted armor to have some minimum requirements for penetrating. With this in mind I can see like a escape from tarkov system where depending on size of the weapons will determine the value of damage penetrating the hull . So I think size 3 will just do nothing, size 4 will probably do minimum amount, but size 5 it where it going to be needed to fight this ship. It makes sense, hammerhead can get away with size 4 because it has 28 of them, the vanguard, corsair and Connie can get size 5 and the ares will be the best.
What I hate in the ship is the lack of cargo, I think this ship so have some cargo on the sides of the elevator lift, so in total like 76 where 26 is off the lift. Second wasted space over the cargo area, they could and should give it a tier 3 medical bed since it suppose to do long range patrol mission. And last I think this ship so have some jump seats in the cargo area and this ship should be able to fit one tank or anvil spartan for ground assault.

    Personally, I like that it's a 1-trick pony.
Me and a few friends generally don't like fighters, because they're fragile and honestly we've played a lot of games where you could only fly snubs.
I don't like the Polaris because it has its bridge on the front of the ship which makes zero sense for a military ship, and it's got torpedoes, and only that. The Perseus literally satisfies my "Smol ship with big guns" fancy ontop of looking like a traditional warship with the bridge in a more traditional place. The only thing I wish it had was missiles in the wider portion of the hull to give it just a little more defense against snubs. Its not meant to be a dropship, it doesn't have a rover bay, that was just a happy accident because of the 50SCU of cargo space, I can see this ship loading HE rounds and using its big ass cannons to provide suppressive fire for dropships that are dropping troops, but not landing them itself.
All in all, I don't need versatility in this ship when it tickles my classic military warship fix that was designed for one purpose and one purpose in mind. There's another military vessels that will be added that can cover a more wide variety of roles.

It's a pure gunboat and I'm okay with that. It also has a pair of high capacity class 5 torpedo tubes for the pilot to play around with, so that's a plus.

you do know that the concept ship price is not remotely close to the price of the ships once they get released?
So for example if perseus is 700 now, it will be 1500 once it gets released... The BMM started as a 300$ pledge, and look at it now.
Also, I hope you know that you get a hammerhead as a loaner for the perseus? :/

4 Ares ions or infernos are not comparable to a Perseus. Well they all have size 7 guns the Perseus has the ability to change it's ammo. Reload it's ammo internally and has 20 size 5 torpedos.
Further vs a Kraken.... I'm pretty sure you are forgetting the main weapon system of the Kraken which is 8 fighters/bombers on its deck on top of more and larger weapons than an Idris-P

  • @DomBogey94

I wish those 7's were 8's to make it mroe dangerous. I feel like its slightly undergunned for the price they are asking!

  • @niklasdahlgren7641

    Eh, no.
The guns on the Perseus are NOT the equivalent of the Ares Ion and Inferno, or even other equally sized weapon classes.
Think of it this way. The Perseus has 120mm smoothbore anti tank guns and the Inferno has a 30mm gatling gun from an A-10. They are in the same size class, but their impact on a target will be different.
One giant armour piercing round vs a torrent of smaller rounds with less armour penetrating ability.
Gatling - Repeater - Cannon in that order of magnitude.
The difference is also impacted by the fact that they are bespoke weapons so they can be more powerful than equivalent S7 weapons on ships that can replace its guns.

    • @jedi_drifter2988

I agree the S7's on Perseus are like a large modern day field artillery cannon, with different ammo types.

The 100 meter would be too small for a sub-capital class ship, especially the ship that focused on destroying another sub-capital or capital class ship. Also, the ship lack of self defence AA, I would say this ship is poorly designed for its purpose. Just my own opinions.

CIG's balance philosophy really annoys me sometimes ngl. There is a gigantic amount of empty space around and above the cargo lift. They could EASILY fit two rooms above the cargo, one on each side of the catwalk. A medbay and an armory would be perfect. It would complete the design of this ship and make it feel like it could be real. Instead we're left with that huge amount of video gamey empty space where only some shitty catwalk exists, because their stupid balance spreadsheet says so. Sigh.

This is a pretty bad take. The way to measure a ship efficiency in the universe isn't based off like the number of weapons it brings or Shields size but how many people it takes to crew it to make it effective. The Perseus has room for six crew members but two of those are redundant in most situations. The captain could also be the pilot that means you need two people one for each turret and one person for engineering, this is me being generous and assuming that engineering is going to be super important because if it's not now you're down to three people to crew a ship that has two size seven turrets and over two dozen size 5 torpedoes. And saying that size 5 torpedoes can't shoot down fighters... Grumpy come on man the ballistas armed with size 5, and I shoot down fighters with it all the time. So at the end of the day you have a ship with heavy Shields, and heavy armor that's packing enough firepower to take out a light capital ship in a one-on-one fight and then do it again and then do it again. You're saying you could get more versatility out of four ions with a fighter escort, duh because it's more people grumpy. you're bringing four pilots for the aries and then what's a fighter escort one two three four guys in other ships? It's useless because it can't win an eight on 4 fight? The real way the game is balanced is if they have four people four ions and four light fighters you would have two perseuses, and suddenly that fight turns one-sided in the opposite direction. Honestly the Perseus is going to be the most common org combat ship you see in the verse. It has minimal crew requirements to bring massive firepower to gain, but it's small enough and cheap enough that if you lose it it's not breaking the bank to get another one and refit it. Who's taking their idrises and krakens and javelins out as daily drivers? No one not even the biggest org, but a Perseus? You can drive that b**** all day. I also don't understand this obsession with jump seats and loading hundreds of Marines onto every single ship, most of the ships are boarding aren't going to have a giant Marine contingent on them, but if you wanted to bring Marines why not just park in Ursa inside and have them all sit in the Ursa. I really think you underestimated the ship on this one.

Rather than release another ship 90 percent of us wont even ever see.....how about they fix the goddamn game? I no longer care about new ships or deformable bed sheets or dynamic player events. I want the bugs squashed and the game finished. I don't even care about the lie of 100 star systems anymore. Just release it with the one system they already have. If 3.17.1 didn't give you a clear idea of what CIG is capable of - nothing will. 450 million dollars and 12 years of development. This will never be finished because Chris Roberts has no boss to tell him enough is enough.
