    Rick thank you for your helpful videos
    Do you have one on how you made your watering system for your raised beds?

      Here's a link to a quick video on the system. I also have a paid course that teaches you how to build it.

    Well Rick, after temps in the 50's just 5 days ago, you and I are presently getting dumped on with 5" of snow so far and who knows how much before it's done. So will the seeds just sit and wait for the snow to melt or do we need to replant once we finally get Spring weather? IF we ever get Spring this year. that is.
    PLEASE show us when and how to plant and grow parsnips. I can't find any video's on this for our zone or even our country. I have no trouble with beets and carrots but have yet to have any success with parsnips.

      The seeds will sit and be fine. I have mine covered with a row cover, but they shouldn't need to be replanted as long as they germinate in the next few week.

    Hey Rick, I love your videos, so, thank you!!
    I have much anxiety over this compost thingy!! I want to make my own but not sure how to go about it. I do compost my left over scraps in to my garden beds. I will not buy compost from a box store because I’m not sure what’s in it, bio sludge is my fear. Do you put animal manure in your compost, as in chicken or rabbit? What can I use for compost if I do not make it myself?

      Jayne, I do also buy compst. I always opt for organic een though it cost more. We have a local producer that uses poultry manure for theirs, that's the one I usually choose. I do not add manure to my compost, not that I wouldn't, but I don't have a reliable source here in the city. Compost doesn't need manure so just set up a pile and go for it!!

      Me too, but seeing Walmart's price online price for a can of beets, $4.54 each, I will be more serious planting beets this year!

      We eat the leaves too, but I really love the roots.

    I was thinking of a good company to buy beets from. I love beets and l would like my money’s worth for the seeds that l buy. Also. How do beets have seeds we don’t know what the future holds. It would be nice to know how to harvest the seeds from beets. 👍🏽

    Have you heard of Square Foot Gardening? They recommend 9 per square foot. 🙂

    I live in zone 7a . Can we do fall beets?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  Рік тому +1

      Of course! Plant them about 6 to 8 weeks before your first frost date.

    After you’ve planted any of the root crops do you mulch and if so with what?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  Рік тому

      Good mulch options would be shreaded leaves, grass clippings, straw, or simply compost.

    • @janaehaase1104

      How thick of a mulch would you recommend?

    Are beets sweeter, the cooler the temps are? I cannot remember where I heard that from. 🤔

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  Рік тому

      I've heard that too, but I honestly never really notice much difference

      @@StoneyAcresGardening Thank you 😊 & I have to try your variety. Clothing from stained beets end up in pet carriers. I need to put Ring cam on the pillow stack. Chanel knows how to put stuff in & out of her house!! 🤣🐕

      Fall planted Cabbage is always sweeter, especially if you don't pick until after the first freezing temperature.

    What or how do you mark your seed location?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  Рік тому

      My beds are prety small, All I planted here are beets and carrots so I don't worry about marking. In some of my larger inground beds I will put a stick at the begining and end of the rows, but that's really it.
