He's another one who had a unique, EXCELLENT rock voice... I was fortunate enough to have seen him twice - once with The Babys, opening for Foreigner and Ted Nugent in the mid 70s, and once as a solo artist, opening for Peter Frampton and Journey, in the early 2000s. Both times, he was flawless, live.
Take me back to hanging on a street corner as a teenager in queens, no cell phone, no computers, but we always seemed to meet up and hang out. Rock and roll, fast car, cold beer and no drama.
Great feel good music that unfortunately is not around any more!! But thank God for You Tube so we can revisit and keep these classics alive, because there aint too much around today that inspires this sort of feeling.
Superb. Great vocals. Catchy tune. Even the background singers are fabulous. Very nice performance. Not many people have the talent to put together something like this today. Thanks for posting that up for us.
The Baby's were an awesome group, both musically, and on the vocals--excellent vocals! This band should have been much bigger than it was! Sincerely, BobbyK
Saw these guys warm up REO Speed Wagon at Grand Valley State in Mi. The Babys were incredible. One of the best drum solos I've ever seen. Reo rocked too.
Like this song, like this guy...He's hung in there pretty well. Around 2006 he did a "Missing You" duet w/Allison Krauss that did well on country top 40. IMHO this "Midnight Special" performance was really "Special" because of the backup singers...they were great. Annie Bertucci (the redhead) is an accomplished and talented performer on her own, she kicked butt on this song, a big plus for this performance.
MIchael Corby..You founded a GREAT band!! You put this band together...You WERE the Babys..Too bad other can't face the truth!!! I really wish everyone could put things aside and let the band ( GROUP) re-unite!! You guys were really phenominal!!
Absolutely brilliant soul vocalist. Charisma . Gorgeous. He was the biggest star of 1984. But he took a step back and let the superstar thing go. Smart man, he knows fame can kill. Bless ya John+++
I know how you feel. I was 14 when this song came out and only 11 when Isn't It Time came out. I honestly didn't believe things world change so much, and for the worse!
Saw these in Chatham not long after I had my first child in 76. Been a fan ever since.Beatlebabyforever its great to hear John's still performing. Thanks redmancfan for uploading
"Seasons come and seasons go, but our love will never die... let me hold you darling, so you wont cry.." Still chokes me up after all these years, it's impossible for me to play or even listen to this song without my eyes welling up just a bit. One of the best love songs ever written, a true masterpiece. Thanks for posting!
Thank you, Kelly King, see what you started! Ha Ha! Have been singing this in my head all day! "Maybe I was wrong not knowing how our love should go, but I wasn't wrong not knowin' how our love would grow!" Great piano and guitar solos.
I remember seeing this show back when this was live the thing I remembered was the dancers in the front row. The guy had silver suspenders and a silver cap. Never saw a silver hat before or since. Quite striking.
1979 through 87 I can't remember a damn thing about it. But, OMG this brings back alot. I need a shower now. What fucking carnage. Great times. Too many drugs, booze, chicks and everything I could get my hands on. Cool shit here.
Just got home from a 3 day run with Sammy Hagar. Last night in St Paul,, John Waite showed why he is one Rock's Best!! After 35 plus years his VOICE just get's better. And a Class act and True Gentleman, Man,, He tore it up!!!!!!! Thank You SIR!!! Many more years to come,,,, All The Best, Kevin K Dugan Dugie
Saw The Baby's at The Tower Theater back in the late 70s with a one hit wonder band called , " New England..It was a great show..They brought down the house with " Head First" and "Midnight Rendezvous "...
@MrManEnough Thanks. Can someone tell me why this woman is not more famous? John is great and I love this song but I think Annie lifts this song up to another level. Good Stuff, Thanks to whoever posted this
Annie Bertucci (the blond backup singer) had an amazing voice. Why she didn't go on her own is beyond me. And John Waite's voice is incredible. t can be soft or he can rock it out. Awesome time in music with real talent. Not like the crap today.
She did. Search her name and you can find many of her songs and videos here on YT. She isn't actually singing here though. All of this is tape except for John.
Nor did Largefrog have the incredible fortune to appreciate a beautiful, English rocker back in this time. John Waite may have been the first English musician I loved, but he has not been the last!! And this song, effing fabulous!
This song is great and I could listen to it over and over. The interesting thing is you hear a strong horn section yet there is not one trumpet or brass instrument in the group. Must be synthesized.
I saw the Babys in 1979 or 1980. I don't think they had any female vocalists at all touring with them at that time, and they were missed. This was a great record. The extra production sold the song. When it was stripped down for live performance, it lost something.
This band was so underrated.
100% CONCUR...
No lip syncing..no auto tune..just pure, real talent.
nope, this is lip synced, at least most of it... it seems Waite's vocals may be the real deal... but I still loved the Babys
It's ALL the original recording except for John who is singing live. Everything else...Memorex (or more likely Ampex)
Wish us Baby Boomers could back to 1979. Loved my long hair. Would love to be 24 yrs old. Miss the 70s.
I rocked the 70's and 80's and they were completely different vibes going on baby boomers vs baby making burn outs?
He's another one who had a unique, EXCELLENT rock voice... Both times, he was flawless, live.
This one of the most underrated bands of the 70 / 80 era. What a tear jerking song.... Met him.. Nicest down to earth guy you would ever meet
The great Annie Bertucci NEVER has to lip sync. Ever.
His voice is so pure. Never a questionable note. They are all spot on.
Take me back to hanging on a street corner as a teenager in queens, no cell phone, no computers, but we always seemed to meet up and hang out. Rock and roll, fast car, cold beer and no drama.
never missed Midnight Special always had the great musical groups of the day... miss all those great times ....
79 I was a sophomore in high school living in Hawaii. OMG, such the day and night! Thank God for memories and good times.
Every time I think of 70's and 80's music, it always turns out good.
Back when a televised live appearance actually had a chance to be live.
Great feel good music that unfortunately is not around any more!! But thank God for You Tube so we can revisit and keep these classics alive, because there aint too much around today that inspires this sort of feeling.
Oh wow this takes me back to the good old days love the midnight special with Wolfman jack and the music was freaking awesome.
Love these performances, actually performed. John W is one of most underrated rock voices ever.
John was live but the background vocals were tracks.
It's a shame this song is practically nonexistent on the radio nowadays.
Like many others
Mark Levin led his show with it yesterday!
Superb. Great vocals. Catchy tune. Even the background singers are fabulous. Very nice performance. Not many people have the talent to put together something like this today. Thanks for posting that up for us.
Have not heard this song in ages. What a blast from the past.
God... this brings back some wicked memories!!!!
Addicted to this video. One of my favorites.
OH MY;; i was only 17 and loved this music then;; and still DO
those were the days;;;;;;; those days and music will ;NEVER be the SAME
The Baby's were an awesome group, both musically, and on the vocals--excellent vocals! This band should have been much bigger than it was! Sincerely, BobbyK
Saw these guys warm up REO Speed Wagon at Grand Valley State in Mi. The Babys were incredible. One of the best drum solos I've ever seen. Reo rocked too.
Seen em in the 70's with Alice Cooper. Awesome show. All general admission. $6.00 per ticket. Gone are the good days.
Must have been a great show
Saw the same tour in 1979 in Denver. Alice on "From The Inside" and The Baby's on "Head First". Such a great show!
Rare clip! Brings back memories of yesteryear ... "Midnight special" and of course... "The Baby's"!
I had good times with John back in the day seeing him live was awesome! 😎
No "AutoTune" back then, just pure awesome music straight from the heart.
Like this song, like this guy...He's hung in there pretty well. Around 2006 he did a "Missing You" duet w/Allison Krauss that did well on country top 40. I love this song & also Baby's it's you. Thank u I've never been seen the clip to either but always heard on the radio.
I miss the seventies . I know I'm older . It was the best time of my life!
Man I love'd this song! I remember my 1979 pinto hatch and bad speakers:)
GUILTY!! There is something about this song that gives me goosebumps. I use to roller skate to this when I was a kid.
full of emotion, just fantastic!!
"Seasons come and seasons go, but our love will never die...
let me hold you darling, so you wont cry.."
Still chokes me up after all these years, it's impossible for me to play or even listen to this song without my eyes welling up just a bit.

Thank you, Kelly King, see what you started! Ha Ha! Have been singing this in my head all day! "Maybe I was wrong not knowing how our love should go, but I wasn't wrong not knowin' how our love would grow!" Great piano and guitar solos.
I love how the one girl looks at her in amazement when she sings her part.
Timeless band and classic tune.
What a sweet, sweet guitar solo!
Excellent romantic seventies tune,that I remember well😎
I remember seeing this show back when this was live the thing I remembered was the dancers in the front row. The guy had silver suspenders and a silver cap. Never saw a silver hat before or since. Quite striking.
Wally Stocker, reallly underappreciated as a guitarist! Great rockin' band!
LIVE music, not lip synced... Awesome.
1979 through 87 I can't remember a damn thing about it. But, OMG this brings back alot. I need a shower now. What fucking carnage. Great times. Too many drugs, booze, chicks and everything I could get my hands on. Cool shit here.

Love it, so many memories - thanks
Waite is so good on stage with his cool charisma.
Beautiful. Live perfomances. Good days.
