The power of nine, the power of seven, the power of three, the power of subverted expectations!!! One show to screw them all and in the darkness be laughed at. 😂
Nothing about this show represents Tolkien's works. They can use the names all they want, it will never be Tolkien because they never read and understood his works.
Luckily for us all it’ll be their hubris that’s causes this show to fade into oblivion once it’s over cause it has no soul to it. It’ll be the next GoT after that show ended
@@nyr14first 4 seasons of GoT are timeless classics, it is the best tv HBO has ever put out. Unfortunately they do not know how to end a show in a satisfying way, couldn’t do it with Sopranos or Succession or The Wire or Watchmen. Just their fatal flaw, they put too much faith into people that are either burned out and don’t care or people who aren’t a good fit for it and are way out of their depth.
@@drip.season8504agree. GOT S1-4 were the best. Showrunners carelessly hastened the story and fuckrd off to Disney. Although they were never hired in the end
Here's my solution. I'm stealing this idea from Dallas and Newhart. Have Cate Blanchett, as Galadriel, wake up and tell us about this bizarre dream she had and say that she will never, ever smoke pipeweed with Gandalf again.
Here's my solution: Zoom out, so we see all these images are actually playing in the Palantir. Then Gandalf covers the Palantir with his cloak, saying: "This is the poison Saruman uses to create the orcs. And the reason I don't want you to ever touch that thing, Pippin!"
As a black person, I’m immediately pulled out of the story when I see black people randomly placed in medieval European fantasy films. Because then I start thinking about how the population came about. And the more I think about it, the more my brain punishes me for thinking about it. Thinking about how the population and races work for longer than like 10 seconds always makes it so much worse and makes the world seem less and less likely with each new thought! I try to keep watching and push the population issues to the back of my mind but it’s hard to move on and keep watching when the world has fallen apart for you 5 seconds into the movie. I just made and uploaded a video on this very subject. Go watch it.
Weirdly enough multiracial societies tend to fit more organically into dark fantasy settings because you can just say there's a lot of racism going on to help keep the different ethnicities intact. In an idealised fantasy setting where racism isn't a thing you would expect any long lasting civilisation to end up looking quite homogeneous. It's odd that the left has increasingly fallen in love with the kind of diverse looking society that only huge amounts of racism and/or strong anti race mixing laws could hope to preserve...
It's just infuriating. You have someone trying to tell us this is some fantasy mediaeval world, and they put in as much effort as possible to contradict that setting. They show some random feudal village with 100 people who have never seen a person that lives more than 20 miles away (Wheel of Time show) or a band of insular nomadic thieves like in this show and yet both of these groups are more cosmopolitan than modern london. They couldn't put more strain on my ability to play pretend if they tried. Why would you put an African man or Indian lady in your band of faux-Irish hobbits? It's as ridiculous as putting a Norwegian or Mongolian in a Bantu tribe. It is so damaging to the storytelling process. It is like casting the ugliest person in the world as the "fairest of them all" in a Snow White movie.
They had black people in those times. The problem is these idiots don't know how to write them into the story. They just over power the character and place them in. Look at game of thrones. Many powerful women as the audience we understood, because it was built up in the storyline
I LOVED the Hobbit as a kid, we read it pretty much once a year as a family. I never noticed there weren't any women in it until someone told me in college and I am a woman. If you can't enjoy fiction without people who look like you then there's something wrong with you
A saw a video (filmed in aliving room) on facebook yesterday, it was the scene from TTT where Gandalf the White reveals himself to Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. The where serveral black kids chearing for this sceen and they were all happy! They don't need to have Morgan Freeman as Gandalf. This series is so damn over the the subject away "we must have POC in every sceen". It ruines everthing. They cast POC for Elves, dwarfs (a folk that lives under the mountain, with not much sun light), Halflings, Men, Numenoreans in stead to creat real homogen folks with there own culters. Where are the Haraddrim - Black Numenoreans, Easterlings, the mountain folk, which will be cursed by Isildur? There is a scene in season two, where Miriel looks like the Queen of Wakanda! In Season two they qoute more and more scens from LOTR and now they even qoute other movies! I gave this show a chance and second chance, but there is nothing that follows anything of the story from the books. That's like Epic MOVIE as a series!
Exactly. Anyone who can relate to a character only if it's of their race/gender (which the marketing definitely implied) is the actual racist/sexist. Amazon made it all about race, not the fandom where 99.9% basically just said "idc about skin color, give me good storys and less pseudoprogressive politics". It's so backwards nowadays, something went truly wrong somewhere
well it's only natural that it reflects the modern world today! i guess the definition of "fantasy" has been changed, like "man", "woman", and anything else that used to make sense. by this point Hollywood has pretty much ruined every IP that used to mean something so this all has to end at some point. right?!? i guess next up is Paki Harry Potter, with Black Hermione and of course Draco and all the Slytherins will be the only whites in the cast. in a story that's supposed to take place in Britain in the 1990s. but that's par for the course for Brit programming today. if a kid grew up just watching new BBC shows they'd think the UK was always 80 percent black and muslim. it's sad beyond belief.
Also it's problematic that LOTR is so white, never mind it's inspired by European history and mythology. And you don't see creators from other cultures like Kirasawa made movies that were a celebration of diversity.
Tolkien is a very different take on fantasy - no snark detected, it's all old school heroic epic high fantasy that uses beautiful flowery prose. It has its dark moments, but also a lot of humanity and heart. It inspires the readers to do and be the best themselves, not just for the sake of people around, but for their own sake. Tolkien's works are in all instances the exact opposites to the freaks and failures that rule the film industry. They don't want to and could never understand his works, let alone correctly transfer them into the series.
Man, Galadriel in the lord of the rings trilogy within seconds of seeing her commanded your attention and respect. She mesmerized you. You could immediately tell she was powerful. Didn’t even have to say a word. She didn’t have to pick up a sword. Didn’t have to wear armor. Didn’t have to physically fight like a man. Just with a single look you respected her immediately. I was a kid when I watched lotr, and when I first saw her I just immediately knew she was an important and powerful person. Within five seconds of seeing her. That’s what you call a strong character that’s female. Not a strong female character like we have today. They write female characters like dog shit today.
Within seconds of rings of power starting I knew she was useless. Climbing an ice wall in a storm using a dagger means you are an IDIOT! Climbing said icewall not carrying a rope to assist your party? What a great leader l. How well prepared and concerned for the welfare of her trusted comrades of centuries of adventure!
@@The_Primary_Axiom And this is exactly the reason all women that read LotR hate on these biyatches. Because we like what we got in the original. True women with agency, strong will and purpose. This thing is a joke of current day tropes, not characters. And I love boss babes in TV. Xena being my favourite one. But not like this, not like this.
@@agiksf.8998 Yea because today they build characters around the real life identity of actresses, instead of building actresses around characters. Listen to Natalie Portman give an interview about starwars, she always refers to her character as she and her. “She does this, and she does that” Divorcing herself from her character. Then listen to the acolyte actresses give interview. They constantly say me me me and I when referring to their characters. That’s because there is no character lol. They are primary and the character secondary. They use to build actors around characters and now they build characters around actors. This is why they hire somebody first based on their DNA and orientation. Then they write the character. It’s really sad and pathetc.
Ahh yes, Tolkien was a Roman Catholic and didn’t cast LGBTQIA+ so we are morally superior and have every right to “make it better”. Absolutely disgusting 🤢👎🏼

That’s what I’m saying. We’ve got stories, books, movies, video games and whatever other media that no human being could ever possibly ingest all of it. Chances are, there’s hundreds if not thousands of pieces of media you can directly relate to. But no let’s make every single story ultra inclusive so no one feels “left out” cmon man
"Expand Tolkien accessibility" A series of books already translated in 57 languages across the WHOLE world YEARS before even the movie trilogy. Loved deeply in basically ANY culture in the world, from the far East to the deep South and the frozen North. But they have to EXPAND it somehow by insulting the already multicultural, multiracial and very diverse fan base. That's delusion on a very grand scale.
What they actually mean is culturally appropriate his works. That's what they mean by "expanding the accessibility". It's derived from their hypocritical view that while cultures from around the world should be properly represented based on their people in their territories, the native Europeans do not deserve to have the same kind of equal treatment, which means they are not entitled to have their history and cultures accurately portrayed on screen by the people who created them.
@@rpgadventurer32 The world is changing. This ordeal is happening because Frodo had an identity crisis and wanted to wear the ring because of how much more of his feminine side he could show instead of hiding it under his shirt... Saruman and Sauron achieved world domination and wrote history anew...
If Tolkien wanted his works to look a certain way, he would have written it that way. To change his work is to show a massive level of disrespect and hubris towards him, and proves they are not and never were fans.
When I saw Finrod Felagund get killed in battle, I looked at the episode & said, 'That's not right' & then when they sent Guyladrial (I love that) to Valinor I turned to the friends and said, 'But she's of the House of Feanor, she can't go back. Because of the Kinslaying at Alqualonde.' And I got such a blank.look at that, that I just gave up. Total Tolkien nerd I admit, but this was depressing.

56:57 Bezos said he wanted his own GOT, but "Stick them with the pointy end" works because Arya is a literal child being taught by someone with combat training. Those Numenoreans were not children. And Galadriel was not trained in combat. This show is just pure fanfiction. It isn't made for Tolkien fans, but rather for the creators themselves and fans of their ideologies.
Not a single person on that show talked about the show and what it is about. Every word out of their mouths was about gender and race. This is why these shows are failing, and they can't seem to get their heads out of their asses to figure that out.
they know exactly what they're doing. They know people will watch it and hate it and then they get to project and gaslight. But it is kinda crazy how it keeps happening over and over again
As a HUGE LORT and Tolkien fan in general.....I was disgusted by this show. Terrible acting, too much cringe, bad writing, story was not middle earth feeling at all. They made the characters all look "model like" and not ruff and tuff. Such a missed opportunity.
Me too, i loved the time period, but from episode 1 i could tell they copped out of everything and expected me to like it for just the CGI backgrounds. Joke's on them I am turned off by obvious CGI.
Peter Jackson spend 10 years of prep. And it shows. Just the props were handmade and the care for details were insane one of the reason it's still holds up 20yers after.
I always thought Pablo Escobar burning millions of dollars in a fire place for warmth was the biggest waste of money until I saw rings of power.....at least Pablo got something for his money, unlike Amazon
don't be so sure? they took a serious axe swing at traditional European folklore. that's worth it to them, and they're hoping every dollar spent on the front end of Western collapse will come back tenfold in its aftermath.
One of the greatest crimes of this show was having Galadriel be the reason Sauron turns back to a life of evil. He was content to settle down and become a smith in Numenor and even said he was trying to escape from and atone for past sins. Galadriel made him fight and in doing so gave him a taste for the power he'd previously rejected while on his journey to redemption. Had she left him alone and been a kind and rational person to him, he would have become "Halbrand, beloved smith of Numenor" instead of going on to become the one of the most brutal and evil tyrants in fiction.
I remember when i learned sir Ian McKellen was gay like 20 years ago or more i was like, oh, okay. He's Gandalf, i love the character did it change anything? No. But that wasn't a talking point, nobody cared, its his personal life and he does what he want with it. Now if one of the actor is gay that is the only talking point, the only thing giving the show/movie legitimacy in the eyes of hollywood and the medias. How far have we fallen...
Sir Ian McKellen did his best to be Tolkien's Gandalf for us (and his best was spectacular indeed) while Peter Jackson and his crew did their best to translate Tolkien's work to a different medium. They couldn't portray everything perfectly and without change, but they sought to let Tolkien's story and characters live through them. They were the canvas on which to paint Tolkien's work. The writers and actors for Amazon's trash want to paint _over_ Tolkien's work. His characters are merely outfits to put on while the "actors" just play themselves, and his stories are merely names and phrases for the writers to scalp and hang on their modern-day, self-congratulatory mess. They neither know nor care what Tolkien was writing about.
Sir Ian McKellen was chosen as Gandalf because he is an amazing actor with training in Shakespearean acting. He was simply the best choice as an actor to portray the character. He certainly wasn't chosen just because he is gay.
"Back to the book, back to the book, back to the book" obviously just meant selectively repurposing characters and stories for their progressive re-imagining so they can the say, "This is totally Tolkien." These big studios ruining OG content and the legacies of real talent to push cultural propaganda is truly disgraceful.
This is so lazy, bad, and only gives cover to the show. Instead of getting raked for not being true to Tolkein, messing up plots, messing up characters, and writing bad dialogue, they get to be victims because someone on the internet criticizes their gender & racial casting choices. It's a terrible show. The gender-bending of it is not even the 100th-worst thing about it.
but diversity is our strength don't you know. As said by Americas 44th president, the guy who reintroduced slavery to north Africa, destabilised the middle east creating ISIS, leading to the collapse of Syria leading to mass immigration of Europe leading to mass grapping of European women and girls. BUT again, say it with me "diversity is our strength!!!"
"You have not seen the things that I have seen" dialogue improved by ChatGPT as follows Galadriel: "You deem that you have seen much, Elrond, but the shadows I have known are deeper still." Elrond: "My years have not been idle, Lady. I have borne witness to many griefs and dark tidings, long have I walked the paths of sorrow." Galadriel: "Yet the darkness that I speak of is older than the stones beneath our feet, wrought in the ancient fires of the world’s first malice. You have not gazed into the void as I have, nor felt its cold touch upon your spirit. Your trials, though great, have not led you to the depths where I have wandered." Now seriously, just let ChatGPT write the next 3 seasons.
"Why does a boat float and a rock sink? Because boats are floaty and rocks are sinky." "The sea is always right!" The dialog in the show is on a whole other level and it's a very low level.
Ya know, at this point in time, Galadriel is married, has a kid (married to Elrond) no less. The King, Gil-Galad, is her nephew's nephew.... And yeah, she never. EVER. Commanded armies. Didn't happen. Hobbits (Harfoots, Fallowhides, and Stoors) didn't show up until the 3rd age. WIZARDS didn't show up until the 3rd age, and they got off a damned boat in the Grey Havens, fully in control of their powers. The elves knew who they were and where they came from> This thing is pure shite.
The importance of Galadriel's daughter is understated. Since Celebrian is Arwen's mother, by removing her from the show and refusing to acknowledge her existence, the showrunners have effectively erased Arwen -- a character from the original trilogy that they are so desperate to tie themselves into -- from existence.
we all know they not care about the lore and works they try rewrite it as they do with history biology and common sense and every logical rightfulthing under the sun ....how i despise them ....
The only out I can give them is that since Amazon doesn't have the rights to the Silmarillion, they can't use any of its content, so they had to make up their own lore.
@@Folker46590 But they do have the rights to the Appendices at the end of Return of the King, and everything that OP said is covered IN the Appendices. Besides, not having the rights to the Silmarillion hasn't stopped them from borrowing liberally from that book anyway.
I really don't understand this obsession with representation and "seeing oneself" on screen. I don't want to see myself. I'm full of flaws and far from perfect. I want to see someone that's not me, someone that can inspire me to better myself because they struggle and strive to better themselves. I couldn't care less if a character looks like me. Hahah :). Yeah...that was....how the hell these elves HAVE NOT SEEN ANY OF IT...hell they supposedly patrol this land for decades!!!!!!!! Who wrote this moronic tv show plot!!!!!!!!!
As someone who works for Amazon and who is a lover of fantasy, I am grateful for the coverage of this abomination. I work my ass off at my local Amazon Fulfillment Center and I just weep at the fact Amazon cares not for the slave force that made them able to pay for this horror of television. The worse TV show since Kurtzman's Star Trek shows.
The worst part is that Tolkien’s works are already diverse. One of the major themes is different races getting along, thus the creation of the fellowship. Some of the major themes - Legolas and Gimli becoming best friends, despite deep seated distrust between the races. There’s an entire section of Galadriels kindness to Gimli changing his perception forever on elves. Hobbits - a race of small folk that can be classified as useless compared to elves, men and dwarves, becoming heroes of the entire middle earth. There’s diversity everywhere in the story….its called…a metaphor.

The thing that always got me was GUYladriel's actress explanation for her just standing there during the volcanic explosion when a cloud of burning ash come rushing towards her, was that this was the moment she was choosing to relax.
How does the 'Rings of Power' audience actually know 'Disa' is a female dwarf? In what scene does the character explicitly self- identify as 'Female', she may identify as a 'Attack Helicopter' for all the audience knows. The stereotypical accoutrement of a female means nothing we are told, these 'social engineers' never follow their own canon.
She said repeatedly that she holds the record for being the first female dwarf of color to ever be on the screen in an Amazon-licensed Tolkien-based IP.
They don't have anything else in life but their 'identity'. And most of them are fake anyway. What do the wokies have in their life beyond twitter posting anyway? They hate actual religion, they think everyone who doesn't subscribe to their cult is evil. The cats can only give you so much 'love'. Empty, friendless, full of venom. It sure sounds deep and fulfilling, doesn't it?
This generation has no imagination, none at all... I can see myself in Bilbo - I am not a hobbit, nor a male, nor wealthy nor a bearer of a ring of power.
I have more imagination than most. I’m not the only one either. This is obvious. Don’t paint the whole lot with one brush. Then you are just like them.
Just one example out of thousands why this show is bullshit: This show's premise is that it takes thousands years before LOTR trilogy, and yet, we have Isildur, who is Numenorian who live longer than ther men, but not that much longer, 200 or 300 years maybe. Now, do the math.... Ok, and another example. The whole point of 3 elven rings is that they are made in secret and that's why Sauron doesn't have and connections with them, in the show they are made first and Sauron helped making them....
"First female dwarf seen on screen." Ignores the female Dwarves featured on screen completely. Dwarf females can be seen briefly in the beginning of An Unexpected Journey, when the story of the destruction of Erebor is told. Bromwyn and Doreena in the Huntsman. Still female Dwarves seen on screen, just a different film.
Well now the goal posts have shifted (as is typical :))...they say first female dwarf to TALK in the promotion for season 2 hahaha....all a bunch of bullcrap anyway because the dwarven characters of particularly importance ARE MALE...the FATHER of the Dwarves and reverence for the Seven FATHERS is important part of dwarven culture. Hell the dwarf women were rarely seen outside their halls...so obviously they will now spin the female dwarf warriors I bet with what is coming with season 2 it seems. Of course their gender quota will be irritatingly trying to steal the stage.
Aside from her twitchy rabbit nose and jubilant horse ride, Morfydd Clark's face is unchanging through the whole series. Regardless if elves were supposed to be portrayed as somewhat emotionless, her performance makes Mr. Spock look like a hysterical spaz.
I honestly have not been this entertained by a YT video since I started watching 6 plus years ago. The idea that something isn’t ‘accessible’ if the people in it don’t look like you is so stupid. What they did was equivalent to if the show shogun had a bunch of samurai that were white and black and female, and they just never gave any background or explained it at all, other than to say they are making it “accessible to everyone”. It’s literally just giving LOTR the Bridgerton treatment, which is so stupid and pointless and cringe inducing.
My favorite part of season one marketing was when someone asked the "my girl galadriel superfan" during a livestream how she was enjoying season one and she says I don't know I been watching house of the dragon hahahha.....long sigh.....
I'm not a LOTR fan, I'm a Star Wars and Frank Herbert fan. That being said, as an onlooker, I find it sad that the agenda has once again taken existing I.P. to use it for ideology over artistry. I believe some I.P.'s should be protected like historical buildings in society because this is getting out of control.

Yeah, it did seem to me that they were protecting their star, Morfydd Clark, by pretending that alllll the casting criticism was about the "of color" actors.
I mean unless that was intentional. And it's kind of hard to come to any other conclusion when you really look at all the evidence. It seems possible that there is a deeper game than what is obvious on the surface. The elves basically represent western culture in the tales, weird coincidence that they would be subtly made evil and incompetent and weak, right?

First female black dwarf ever. What does that actually say about this actress's career? Wow! First female black dwarf. That's impressive. Very impressive
The essential thing about Identity Politics is that it's all about what you ARE. Not about what you DO. So, of course she considers the colour and gender of this character to be important, and she doesn't say a word about the character's actions.

Amusingly the only way they go for is to race swap white folk...so the actress is playing a role of a race swapped white folk :) must be proud to play a Dwarf..product of cultural folklore/mythology of Europeans (Germanic, Norse etc.) bearing a NORSE name Disa (which is basiclaly altered for of Dis...a female dwarf named in Lotr appendices...sister of Thorin Oakenshield and mother of Fili and Kili..so stealing name from actual canonic character..living in Third Age...basically she can do no better than playing an imitation and white folk role. Hell amusingly enough in Lotr there are dark skinned peoples....Haradrim...the only way to make a lore friendly diversity....it would actually be much better and more respectful to see a whole new culture of dark skinned people rather than stealing white people's accomplishments and identity :). "Swertings. Said by Sam to be the name in the Shire for the legendary (to hobbits) dark-skinned people of the 'Sunlands' (far south). It may be left unchanged as a special local word (not in the Common Speech); but since it is evidently a derivative of swart, which is still in use (= swarthy), it could be represented by some similar derivative of the word for 'black / dark' in the language of translation. Compare Swarthy Men, the Common Speech equivalent (III 73)." JRRT Sophia Nomvette could have played a Haradrim witch (she's irritating witch anyway), Ismael Cruz Cordova playing a young Haradrim warrior (this would also give more interesting visual design for character, just look how Tolkien describes Haradrim warriors: ""'More Men going to Mordor,' he [Gollum] said in a low voice. 'Dark faces. We have not seen Men like these before... They are fierce. They have black eyes, and long black hair, and gold rings in their ears... lots of beautiful gold. And some have red paint on their cheeks, and red cloaks and their flags are red, and the tips of their spears; and they have round shields, yellow and black with big spikes."/""For a moment he caught a glimpse of swarthy men in red running down the slope some way off with green-clad warriors leaping after them... a man fell, crashing through the slender trees, nearly on top of them. He came to rest in the fern a few feet away, face downward, green arrow-feathers sticking from his neck below a golden collar. His scarlet robes were tattered, his corslet of overlapping brazen plates was rent and hewn, his black plaits of hair braided with gold were drenched with blood. His brown hand still clutched the hilt of a broken sword." scarlet robes, gold jewellery war bling :) and general more cool look than what they gave his character)..Lenny Henry could have played a Haradrim tribal chief or king, father figure, Cynthia Addai Haradrim princess and love interest...and voila...they would have their 'representation' and be lore accurate!!!!!!!
“Arise, arise, Riders of Rohan! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered! A sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now!"

All that money and can only tell part of the story and we can see some of characters but not all, because why would they need all of the characters to tell a competent story
I am what everyone says is a "Tolkien Nerd", I read the book, hell I read the professors letters to understand the world he created. They didn't make it for people like me, they made it for woke/DEI crowd. It is an abomination and what ever money it makes will be a fraction of what they could have made. Jackson left a lot out of his movies, he even f'd around with the story a lot (spoiler Sauruman doesn't fall off the tower and die). Tolkien nerds like me understand that latitude has to be given in order to tell the story timely and appeal to a broader audience. As our Star Wars friends say, this isn't cannon and its going to be horrible to see what they do with Tom Bombadil. I implore all of you, don't watch it, not even hate watch it. They have screwed with Tolkien, and Tolkien fans are not to be fucked with. Let the beacons be lit, let the horn of Helm Hammerhand sound once more and you my fellow warriors we fight now with our wallets and our views.
I'm a woman from the Caribbean and a fan of both the books and movies, and it never once entered my mind that there should be more dark skinned women like me in the adaptions. Rather, I identified with the values, virtues and struggles of the various characters. That is how I see myself represented in my favourite books, movies and series. Feeling that I can't identify with a chatacter unless they LOOK like me is rather shallow and tbh... rather prejudicial.
Gary: " I bid you STAND fans of true Tolkien!!!" Bless you all in the Nerdrotic crew for always reminding me I stand not alone in honoring the true heart of the great Professor by rejecting this corporate abomination.
An actor tells us 2:30 that it's important, when watching a story, to be "represented" - to "see yourself staring back at you". Excuse me? I thought the point of a story was to get you AWAY from yourself? To meet other minds, to experience other ways of thinking? What is the point of "seeing yourself"? Does it boost your confidence? Then you have a self-esteem problem, but it's not the job of an entertainment show to fix your problems. I'm just guessing here. She doesn't explain why it's "important" to "see yourself". Are we all supposed to be like Donald Trump, watching TV only for news about himself, lacking any interest in other people? Is narcissism now a virtue?

Thank you so much for this
Weirdly enough multiracial societies tend to fit more organically into dark fantasy settings because you can just say there's a lot of racism going on to help keep the different ethnicities intact.
What do you mean, "how the population came about" ?
They had black people in those times. The problem is these idiots don't know how to write them into the story. They just over power the character and place them in. Look at game of thrones. Many powerful women as the audience we understood, because it was built up in the storyline
I LOVED the Hobbit as a kid, we read it pretty much once a year as a family. I never noticed there weren't any women in it until someone told me in college and I am a woman. If you can't enjoy fiction without people who look like you then there's something wrong with you
That part! Thank you

@@aeonise People always forget about Samwise's speech about 9/11 in Return of the King.

Havent even watched the show after the first review of this channel. I havent missed anything. It saved me some nerves I would have lost watching a hole episode of this garbage show
I watched the first episode before I saw any reviews. I boat scene where she jumps off had me turn it off. The entire story from that point is nothing but contrived she should have drowned.
I'm half white and half Hispanic. I don't go around whining that there aren't enough half white, half Hispanic characters in existence because I don't need characters to look like me or be like me to enjoy movies and shows 😒
Bruh I'm Puerto Rican, Portuguese and French. Since we have to identify our gender these days I think I'll just be trans-dimensional and just let my daughters stare at me with puzzled expressions

I'm European-Sioux mix. Native Americans are still the most underrepresented people in media. But we don't care. We don't whine. Like you, we are capable of seeing ourselves in media based on a character's behavior, what they stand for, etc.
I'm Anglo Saxon, German, Dutch, and Norwegian. (I burn easily)
I love good music, good films, great stories, and inspiring characters.
I don't care what they look like.
I'll sing hillbilly country one minute, dance to James Brown the next, and quote Chief Dan George when the song ends. It's all beautiful.

At least she got one thing right... that "female" dwarves are mostly indistinguishable from "male" dwarves. 😂
good point. actually, the diversity front should never assume any gender unless a person comes out and explicitly makes it up.
I thought she was a guy?
@@funkydiscogodAnd she was dead wrong about that, too! LOL! 😂
The DEI crowd is so shallow, literally skin deep
They don't have anything else in life but their 'identity'. And most of them are fake anyway.
What do the wokies have in their life beyond twitter posting anyway? They hate actual religion, they think everyone who doesn't subscribe to their cult is evil. The cats can only give you so much 'love'.
Empty, friendless, full of venom. It sure sounds deep and fulfilling, doesn't it?
They’re so racist it’s literally ALL they can think about.
a "story " like that is called seichte scheisse in german ...
What a age we are living to witness these horrific shows...
This generation has no imagination, none at all... I can see myself in Bilbo - I am not a hobbit, nor a male, nor wealthy nor a bearer of a ring of power.
Beautifully said. I am not made of wood, but I understood Treebeard''s anger at how the woods were treated
They worship the flesh its all they can see and all they create is reflected by this paradigm they embody.
It's not this generation. That's just a justification, a rationalization, for what they doing.
No imagination? They don't even see the show they're paid to promote.
I have more imagination than most. I’m not the only one either. This is obvious. Don’t paint the whole lot with one brush. Then you are just like them.
People wanting their exact reflection to be represented in fictional stories is what's killing the fantasy genre.
How much more egotistical and up your own ass can you GET?!

It took me way too long to get “Don Lemonlas,” now I can’t stop laughing 😂
I'm not as online as I need to be to understand that joke. Is that a reference to don lemon or is it something else?
Just one example out of thousands why this show is bullshit:
This show's premise is that it takes thousands years before LOTR trilogy, and yet, we have Isildur, who is Numenorian who live longer than ther men, but not that much longer, 200 or 300 years maybe.
At least she checks 1 ACTUAL box from Tolkien... That female dwarves are mostly indistinguishable from male dwarves... 😂
Aside from her twitchy rabbit nose and jubilant horse ride, Morfydd Clark's face is unchanging through the whole series. Regardless if elves were supposed to be portrayed as somewhat emotionless, her performance makes Mr. Spock look like a hysterical spaz.
Amazon's Jeff Bezos is a Lex Luthor cosplay at this point.
Cosplay?
I honestly have not been this entertained by a YT video since I started watching 6 plus years ago. Your editor is amazing, the way you deliver the commentary and use of jokes from my childhood just makes me continue to laugh out loud. Thank you for being so grounded, Gary. Your videos are always so unique and informative. Stay blessed, brother.
idk why to me THE most ridiculous conversation was when she was 'teaching' the boys on how to delete orcs, saying : ' For you, i will keep it brief and simple' and stabs directly in front of her the air, says 'twist' , 'dead'. i honestly laughed for the rest of the episode.....from aaaalllll the trash that scene and her dancing while fighting was just so cringe i felt third party embarrassment. and they all act like she just showed them a move no one can do or counter. from all her hubris, ego, entitles, that moment was so below freezing IQ i thought the editor fk up lol. stab, switch, dead. like she invented gun powder
Poor Gary. No one should be subjected to a whole season of this.
He just copy and pasted all his past reviews into one massive review video
Give him the meat
@@josem7369I love when creators do that. Makes easier to watch. Same with AVGN and Caddicarus.
Don’t feel too bad - it’s massively grown his channel and made him a lot of money … true hardship!
When Galadriel said "Black lives matter", then twisted Sauron's balls.....man that scene made me cry.
My guy why do you spoiler Season 2
SPOILERS!!!
Even more than Sauron? Lol
lol🤣🤣🤣
Sauron balls were black, weren’t they? She’s RACIST!
To this day the "Sauron... sorry, Halbrand" line still cracks me up.
"Build a wall and make the Elves pay for it!" That was hilarious.
"We're going to build a wall,a big beautiful wall, and it's going to keep out all of the goblins and the orcs and the Uruk'ai,it's gonna be stupendous!"
😂😂😂
It's one thing to make up your own shitty characters, but I will never forgive the absolute desecration of the legacy legends with ; guyladriel, Femrond, Methrandir, GenZildur, CucLendil, Kamiriel, and shift supervisor Gilgalad....
Everyone to The Hobbit Trilogy: "Perhaps we treated you too harshly."
Yes…yes you did 😂
Nah it was still shit... It was just far more well done than this trash.
Wyvern smaug was a terrible choice arms are hard but a smaug that cant do coin flips with giant gold wheels between his claws is not smaug
No, those movies are still trash. RoP just made us realise how much further the bar could be lowered 😂
Wasn’t that bad if you cut out 2/3rds of the Battle of Five Armies.
I enjoyed Peter Jackson's movies, and I don't understand how Amazon thought this would be a good product. I believe some I.P.'s should be protected like historical buildings in society because this is getting out of control.
Apparently that guy on X thought Gary was a bigot, I think he’s one of the few saviors fighting against our modern media. God save the nerdrotic

"I think, therefore i am" - René Descartes.
The irony is for all their claims of racism, the most hated character by far was very white.
These are people who believe you can't be racist to white people.
Remember how incredible Kate was in LOTR? She was a god. She stole every scene in a movie full of awesome scenes and actors.
Maybe Madrial survived her swim because she was a witch and as we all know... witches float.

I can confirm. She turned me into a newt!

I can't wait for the after show streams. I think it was some of Gary's best work. I've never laughed so much and had so much fun being in the live chat. I highly suggest anyone watch the after show streams live. We have a blast. Hail to the Fellowship.

My favorite scene was when Galadrrriel force-choked John Walker and turned her lightsaber red.
This was super helpful, appreciate your effort!
Your editor needs a raise. This is hilariously cut.
I'd like to print the script of this series on a roll of toilet paper, then eat a bunch of chili, and give this entire show all the respect they gave to the collective works of professor Tolkien.
Based.
She's pretty far from being "dwarf" if we're honest.
Nowhere near a Dwarf.
Bolder maybe 😂
I still cant believe this Galadriel is the same character from original trilogy
First female black dwarf ever. What does that actually say about this actress's career? Wow! First female black dwarf. That's impressive. Very impressive
The essential thing about Identity Politics is that it's all about what you ARE.
Not about what you DO.
So, of course she considers the colour and gender of this character to be important, and she doesn't say a word about the character's actions.
How the heck a dwarf can have black pigment while all the live spend underground? 🤔🤔
@@DavidByrden1 or rather, what you are not - according to their propagandized intersectional feminism.
@@PT-rg2vo Either
(a) there is an underground Sun in one of the caves and her people come from that cave.
(b) race is not supposed to matter and we're not supposed to care - but this story is explicitly about races of beings, ancestries, and tribes. It does matter in this show.
Compare Swarthy Men, the Common Speech equivalent (III 73)." JRRT
Sophia Nomvette could have played a Haradrim witch (she's irritating witch anyway), Ismael Cruz Cordova playing a young Haradrim warrior (this would also give more interesting visual design for character, just look how Tolkien describes Haradrim warriors: ""'More Men going to Mordor,' he [Gollum] said in a low voice.
"Bronwyn is a single mother because Hollywood doesn't have Fathers anymore."

Feeling that I can't identify with a chatacter unless they LOOK like me is rather shallow and tbh... rather prejudicial.

Excuse me? I thought the point of a story was to get you AWAY from yourself? To meet other minds, to experience other ways of thinking?
What is the point of "seeing yourself"? Does it boost your confidence? Then you have a self-esteem problem, but it's not the job of an entertainment show to fix your problems.
