Love your vids! I have one. The model is pronounced ‘KAL-AYE’
Kal- Ay- is' luv it
@@rejuvenationgarden5193 yeah it's interesting given its a French word and they sold an Oldsmobile cutlass Calais in North America too.
Yep, rhymes with ‘heaps sick aye’
yes lol
🤣 I kinda love how so many people are triggered by it in the comments! I’m only human now I know guys 👏👌
Damn that's a great looking CalayEs 🤣🤣🤣. It's kal-ay bud lol.
🤣 I learned the hard way
Calay why the K
Awesome review as always. I have never heard Calais pronounced in such a posh way that made the review that much better. Thanks Ross you made my weekend.
🤣 glad you enjoyed my insane accent 🤣🤌🧐 loved the kal ay is 🇦🇺🤌🤌🤌
@@RossReviewsau I was born in Calais, France 🇫🇷 and the S is silent 🔇
@@RossReviewsau I have a vx clubsport I’d love for you to review
The VT and VX have always been favourites of mine. Great review, Ross. 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it man
Such awesome cars. I miss my vt
What was your VT? Assuming it was a V8, was it an LS1 or 304?
Calais is said with a silent s mate. 🤣. You say is strangely lol
The colours called Delft Blue 👌🏻
Love it
I bought a straight stock V8 calais LS1 about 3 years ago now in a Sydney car sales yard of all places for $6500 with 205,000 klm s , at the time I had zero idea prices go through the roof I could sell it now for $15,000 -20,000 I have kept the car as stock as possible I’m an Automotive tech , I changed Myer the head unit so reverse camera , hands free etc , dash camera system that records in real time 12 hours after leaving car. , it is insured for $8000 , I put in performance coil packs , new shocks and struts , I still have king springs to put in , I put in a K&N standard filter to fit in the original box , I have “ HOLDEN8” plates in South Australia they allow you an extra number … have kept the car as stock as possible as they are worth more unmolested
It’s amazing how much they have gone up in price eh! But also how rare these are to even find now.. really Is getting difficult
Own a hsv R8 Auto and love the shape of these 2000s cars that is a great looking car your right mate blue on blue u found a good one thanks for the video 's always look forward to seeing what you come up with thanks
Good stuff love the HSV version 🔥 good looking cars
Pretty sure the colour is Delft Blue Mica B196
Cheers I really like it
I have a vx ss in mint condition 6 speed manual in tiger mica fully adjustable coilovers in the front and fully adjustable rear suspension break upgrade with braided break lines brass button clutch pacemakers 2.5 in exhaust sound awesome its my baby no sagging roof lining
Cammed ls, 🤤🤤. Great review man, owner has kept it in great shape! Definitely aren’t no 10k car there
love how you say calais haha
I always love a calais the calais was the SLE commodore replacement all those years ago
They came 3.8 . 3.6 was vz onwards, love the reviews though awesome
Thanks yeh just had a brian fail on that one
Well done mate
Glad you enjoyed it
it sounds really good
✅😈
I had a mint unmolested Delft Blue 2001 VX Calais International LS1 with some bolt ons and I loved it! This video reminds me of just how much I miss it!
The stock Aurion I now own smashes alot of Commodores and Falcons however it just doesn’t make the noises of the V8s! 😅
You are dreaming mate a stock aurion won't even come close to beating any ls 😄😄
Cops are so hungry always no matter where in oz you are. Love your content Ross, that's a nice ride, and so mint and nicely modded, qudos to the owner 👍🏼
Sad but true they will get you when ever they can 🙄
Lol this old girl still cruising along what a gem hey Johnny & yes I laughed too at your Calayis sorry bro it's funny haha, another legend review there cheers mate.
Bought this one from new! Fantastic to see it sounding and looking better than ever! 👍
Goes well!
Did you do the build on it?
@@DYSTURBED22 .. I started it with the bonnet, front HSV splitter, pacemaker headers, cat back exhaust and an engine remap. Whoever bought it after me has done a great job on the extra mods and maybe a fresh coat of paint! They certainly spent a few bucks doing it.
gawd I have a vx (prettiest model holden made imo) but SS..like the softer curves ...got pulled up since my build for the first time this week for a breatho... 383, bigish cam with a charger whine...let me through...soooo lucky. Good luck with the sticker removal :)
I do love the VX looks I must say.. VZ always my favourite but VX is sexy
Love the defect sticker on the front and silver fern on the back.
👌👌👌
I own a cammed 2002 vx ss manual and I love it
Awesome mate!
Always loved that colour on them and the utes
Looks mint eh
We grew up driving the manual V6 earlier versions, the VR Commodore had a Buick that was bulletproof for drifting, I’ve owned so many 😂 good Australiana🎉
Love it Rosco. I'm just gonna call them 'Kalayess' from now on
Good man 🤣🤝
I think the vx corners pretty well maybe not compared to a corvette or something but I can really push mine on new zealand roads which are alot more twisty than aussie, this Calais sounds awesome thanks for another great review I'm late to your channel really enjoying it.I have a vx ss it's my second one most comfortable to drive out of all holdens made I reckon.
I used to have an L67 VX calais in that same colour scheme
Delpht/Delft blue exterior + ultra rare blue leather
Idc that it was only a 171kw 375nm v6 I regret selling it every day
Hi Ross if your ever in Cairns would love for you to review my vf ssv with 334 rwkw just with head and cam OTR and full diphillipo exhaust cheers
Appreciate it mate! Would love to see it some time
I run a VZ SS 6LTR ex chaser
Head cam and exhaust package makes the same amount of noise and HP as this one my lefty neighbours hate it 😂
55years age I think about selling it but soon as I get it out puts a smile on my face
Excellent review
Good stuff mate! That’s why we love em! Hold on to it
Will do
@Mr VZ cheers mate will do
Awesome car sounds awesome I still love the 5.0 ltr sound , in my opinion best holden engine for sound maybe not power but it sounds amazing 🤤
Absolutely. Especially the 355. They have distinctive sound. A bit like 1000 singing angels.
I reckon the 253ci sounds best, better noises than the 308/304ci but makes waaaaay less HP and doesn't get the same support
@@phizzle24 the old thong slapper.
@@phizzle24 Boat anchor good for nothing 253.?
Looks nice, sounds mint & goes well, Big Thumbs up to the owner.
Massive thumbs up 👍
Nice ride , makes me never want to sell my VX Calais International even more . Even stock these engines never fail to surprise . They love cold mornings...warm them up slow and they scream in the cold morning air. I keep traction on and doing so has pulled me out of some sticky situations . Whats cool about the traction control in some of these models (mine) is it actually kicks the accelerator pedal back at you. These cars are pure fun and a pleasure to drive. Some folk upgrade the rear end with the VY subframe to get the toe adjustment. Mine gets toey if you push it too hard which is why traction comes in handy. I see some mention of oil use and I assume many are thinking of the sloppy rings , lucky Holden sorted much of this via recall. They are high maintenance if you want to drive them hard...change oil every 5000k's , bleed adjust/change brakes as required, they can handle a caning if you maintain them...waterpumps ,fuel pumps, alternator last about 100000ks ...Main problem rear main seal plate tends to leak... but compared to ls2s and 3s they are value for money. ... Love the video.... I thought the front was off a Senator. The standard VX grill is actually chromed under the black paint...for those thinking of buying one paint stripper will give you a chrome grille. ....cheers...🚦🚦
Glad you enjoyed the video! Hold on to yours 🤝
Definitely calling them Cal Ay Ess now, sounds fancier 😎🤣
🤌🧐 kal ay is 😎
My uncle had a vs Calais back when I was a kid and I was so confused the way my dad said it compared to what I was reading 🤣
Love you video mate, I bought mine for $2,500 2001 vx ss LS1 GEN 3 5/6 years ago and now getting a lot of people offering me $25k plus but I refuse it, it looks clean and good I’m glad I got one before thinks change lol
Nice buy mate 👍 wish i was so lucky haha
Calayess LOL and a Yellow Sticker to boot ...Great review mate keep it up
😁
🤣 glad you enjoyed it mate
4 speeds are 3 speeds with an over drive. The ratios aren't closer together.
Unless it's got the sonnax 2.84 first gear 6 pinion planet in the box, the The 4l60e then wakes up.
Gey bud living the reviews would you be keen on doing a vr Calais v8 5 litre?
Yes mate flick me a message on Insta or fb
Calais Clay famous boxer, used to drive one 😝
Very , very nice.
👌👌👌
The colour is b186 delft blue which was only available in the vx and vy
great color
Silent S on the end 😂
Awesome vid mate and correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure there was no option in the VX Calais to take traction control off? I could in my VY Calais just not sure on the VX.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Will have to do a review on mine once it's done for Sure see how it compares 👌
Very keen
@@RossReviewsau got the last of my parts ordered so should be done soon 🤞🤞
We’ll have to definitely run them down the track been following your build for a bit now love the car 👍🏻
LS1, Ross used more oil than petrol in this test. Lol.
🤣🤣🤣
😆I was behind a LS1 powered SS on the way home from the shops today, and she was a bit smokey.
@@chrisrolfe6917 Actually you don't see many smoking cars these days they do stand out.
Awesome video I'm not sure if you've had one on the channel but you need to get a turbo LS on the channel that's the real fun right there 😀 👍 😉
Thanks bro! I’m looking for a turbo LS still yet to find one tho
@@RossReviewsau if you where in nsw I could hook you up with a few all good still enjoying the video all the same
Calais pronounced Cal ay just for future reference,,love your vids keep them coming.
my bad haha.. more on the way
Delph blue. Had a vu ss ute back in the day in that colour.
Really nice colour
Was going to mention the model prenuciation. Did like the blue painted center vent & shifter surround. VXs weren't optioned wiyh 3.6 Isuzu motors. They still had the Buick 3.8s. Yes superchargers were an option.
You know I actually wrote down 3.8L 🤣 and me in my wisdom just said 3.6 thinking of the VZ idk why lol 😂 my bad
@@RossReviewsau you do a seriously good job on your vids mate, all sarcasm aside like the eye lid phase. Cheers on the content you pump out.
Here I thought getting a bmw would keep me from getting yellow stickers then I see this tidy thing with a canary there is no hope for us. Great vids as always keep it up
They alway trying to get ya for something eh
I got a 2001 vx Calais ls1………. But manual 6spd lol 😅😂
Best thing you could ever do to a ls1 Calais
I also have a vx calis I put a cam and tune in. It's been good but I may go more power soon
Love em
I have a 2001 vx calais international same colour and I'm wanting to spread it out to the world I want people to say "I want to build something like that".
I was also able to pick it up for 4 grand back in 2015 which is incredible for a car that only had 350 of them made.
Lovely Callayas :)
🤝🤣
@@RossReviewsau Love your work mate :)
wow man .. i really do like how the car look like.. i wanna make my car like that. but where to bay the parts
Fb 🤣👌
Very very nice 💪💪👍👍✌✌
👏🇦🇺👏🇦🇺👏
got a VY SS same running gear BUT the best mod i ever did was kick that 460le to the kerb and go turbo400 with a 3500 stall
Good stuff bro! Yes 100% If you got the auto you need that
@@RossReviewsauonce you cam these motors and let them breathe with exhaust cold air induction and headwork that 4 speed just never felt the same even with a built box and 3000 stall ,ONCE you go built turbo 400 and 3500 stall it transformed it to another level ,that LS1 is happy now
Yeah colour looks like delft blue
It’s nice
Either a Jealous or stuck up cop. What's unroadworthy about it?
It's better looked after than any hwp vehicle in the country!
@Hates Spam True, but surely they can appreciate that it's an LS1. It's not unreasonable from what I can hear from the video.
They just see a modified car a young guy & look for issues 🥲
swap out the the rear sway linkages to str8 ones...whiteline supply em....you will notice a difference then.
u need to check out a HSV GTO COUPE . I have a VY 6 speed manual and their Sick, even stock. Peace from New Zealand
ive been trying to find one!
Cal aye
Seeing as you're Canadian living in Australia I'm a bit disappointed in the pronunciation of the French name of an Aussie icon.
🤣🤣
Fuckin luv it!
🤣🤣
Trust me when I say 99% of Canadians besides people in Quebec.. don’t speak a lick of French 🤣
But I had to throw my own flair to it 🤌🧐
Awesome review John! It's pronounced as "Celey" and not "Celeyis" It has an awesome note to it and feels like it has a high stall converter hence the higher revs.
Yeah 3800
She had a stall I believe🤣 yeh I learned now how to properly pronounce it
I know that car very very well since about 2015/2016
Was a fun ride
My old mate Alan "Noddy" use to own it and now Mitch does..Me step son Curtis did some paintwork on it when Alan owned it except for the roof lol ..Yeah ive tuned it since 2015 same combo but its a little weapon 💪, ive always liked it ...Ross reviews glad you enjoyed the drive gd stuff 👍
We will all let the Calais thing through to the keeper because yet another great review. Never disappointing.
Yeah, I was thinking a Canadian would know better.
🤣 glad you enjoyed it!
Lol I was wondering about the TC hey I don't think you can turn it off in these.
Love this thing 🙂
There was a TC button you could turn on or off 👍
@@RossReviewsau true, the Vx my mate had he must not of found it lol.
Dickhead trying to do a burn out, it was bad lmao.
Never drove it, he had a VT and his girlfriend flipped it in a bad accident, while I was in the back. Insurance got him a vx and he reckons you couldn't turn it off.
🤮Friends hey🤦🤬👍
The executives didn’t come with it the rest of the models did not too sure about the acclaim
That is one quick beast! Does it run a Trutrak diff? That would likely give it more traction.
It sure does run a trutrak driff
@@tayladonovan4093 Wow!
Yup true trac but still I was impressed
Kal aye is how it's prounounced
My Passat does the same on winter Tyres
;)
3.8 lol 😆 😂 3.6 in the vz unbelievable
I had a VX Calais, same colour but with beige seats, with headers and straight-piped exhaust. It was slow as shit.
You should test the VY Calais.
I've got one you can borrow 😆
You in Perth brotha?
@@RossReviewsau spewing na NSW
Bro you need to review the vt gts 300kw
Who’s got one👀
pronounced cal-lay, Sixes in Vx were 3.8 litre capacity, however you may be referring to the alloytec in VZ which was 3.6 litre.
Yeh I knew it was a 3.8 and in my wisdom said 3.6 thinking of the VZ onward cars.. oh well cheers for the fix
That 0-100 time was damn impressive. I have an auto VY SS ute, I would be interested to know what the mods are. Specifically transmission and diff ratio change if any.
Really was impressed
Trutrack with 3.9s
@@mitchgoated3887 Thanks mate. That explains it. Great work.
@@RossReviewsau My VY SS ute, is just one of many mate.
I was wondering what this rare KuhLayUs model was until I read the comments lol.
🤣🤣🤣
Great review but the VX had the 3.8 L36 and 3.8 Supercharged L67 V6, not the alloytec V6...
It'll be interesting to see a review of an L67 Supercharged V6...
Yeh I knew it was 3.8 from my notes but my brain decided to go with the later 3.6 I’m more familiar with 🤣🤦♂️
@@RossReviewsau 🤣🤣🤣
Great review I like the car; it’s a silent s, calaaaaa not Calais but all good John
Glad you enjoyed it non the less
Cal-aye
You should get a vs ute
Would love one
What was the defect for?
A few things 🤣🤣🤣
The colour is delft blue😁
Review a brand new m3 competition trust me it will blow your mind they are wicked quick
VT and vx are the best shape
Fuck that’s beautiful
Blue woodgrain is interesting, nice blue interior as well. I had a vs Calais. Hated the vt-vx so uncomfortable and look like a dumb bubble. But this one looks ok I guess. Done well.
its was actually surprisingly nice.. still needs a little TLC but coming together
@@RossReviewsau I find compared to a vs or even a vy the vt-vx is just uncomfortable. Idk what you've driven in your life but the VT has dumb pedals, seats, arm rests, steering wheel. The only cool thing is the nostalgia I feel because my dad owned one growing up 🤣
Nonetheless I reckon you gave it a good review.
Hoodlining has fallen down, them commodore feels lmao
It’s an Aussie tradition
Guys what this rear bumper the r8 different from that one
VX were a good car. I'd love to know why that car got a canary sticker. Its neat, straight, and looks very well maintained.
Got the canary for a greased bonnet Sturt, old engine leak forgot to clean up and wrong size tyres
They were option with a 3.8L V6. Not 3.6 btw
Interesting way to say CALIAS.........hahaha..........Ive always pronounced it KALAA............keep killing it mate.
🤣 most agree with you mate.. but I gotta put my own spin on her 🤣
Calayis sounds mean!
🤌 that extra flair
One word
Calais
If you wanna come to England and review my vt2 HSV , one of 32 imported by wilkinshaw in 2000 , you are welcome to.
Oh wow would love to see that!
Pretty good time for 5.3seconds
Not bad at all eh
Don't listen to em Ross it's cal-aise
Appreciate it mate
It wouldn’t be a post 1990 Holden if the roof lining wasn’t sagging 😂
Absolutely correct 🤣
It's a real runner..
Goes well
That’s one quick ls
Definitely a bigger cam will make it slower
Mates got a Ute with 420wrhp and absolutely so much slower than when he just had intake and tune done.. but so much fun tho .. no wonder ppl use them as skid rigs..
Maybe if your large cam only starts making power above 400RPM but otherwise your statement is bullshit I put a 229/235 cam in my LS1 powerband is from 2400-6400 rpm its a shit ton faster and more power than when I had my stocker cam in with OTR. and maflless tune.
@@AndrewMitchell001 how much power is yours making though? 420whp is around 315rwkw, to get that on an Ls1 you would need a pretty big cam but lose a lot of low down, hence it could feel slower overall
@@vxsr33 Im making 270 rwkw to the rears but thats through an auto with big stall so I would be touching 300rwkw if it was manual.
It’s pretty simple
Too much power equals wheelspin
@@chrissmith9854 No it doesn't its how you feed the power in with your foot you dont just floor it unless your frying tyres.
