Brees Goat agree Star Wars only has a place on this list for its impact and innovation. A good movie, but better off in HM than top ten. That being said, I can see the reasoning that puts Star Wars top ten, even if top two is super wishful thinking
spinz186 Yeah I agree that lower top 10 would be fine, but putting at number 2 makes it look like it’s almost as good as Godfather and its definitely not
G4nst4Ch33se The movies I have seen from that decade are, in average, better than those I've seen from other decades. I'm not really sure what made them better.
The list does not include: Death Wish, The Sting, Bad News Bears, Steve McQueen movies, the disasters movies were fun to watch, Three Days of the Condor... So many great films.
Fruiec Wilkford .... The Godfather I & II, Taxi Driver, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, The Exorcist, Jaws, A Clockwork Orange, Apocalypse Now, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Rocky, Alien, Rocky Picture Horror Show, Mean Streets, Halloween, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Carrie, The Deer Hunter, No Country for Old Men, & The French Connection all beg to differ.. They REALLY don't make them like they used to anymore...
Well I mean movies from the 70s that compare to 90s films like shawshank redemption and pulp fiction. Pretty much only ones are Godfather and Taxi Driver. All are very very great movies that have impacted my life.
I've only seen 5 so far. 5.) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 4.) Dog Day Afternoon 3.) Monty Python and the Holy Grail 2.) A Clockwork Orange 1.) Taxi Driver
rybrentmannftw Oh, well I have seen Star Wars. I thought it was great, but not as great as everyone sets it out to be in my opinion. Sorry. And no, I haven't seen The Godfather or Apocalypse Now. Once I see more movies from the 70s I'll make a 10 list, and those 3 might make my list.
You've got great taste, Taxi Driver is my favorite movie of all time, you really should watch The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter and Chinatown, All masterpieces.
List Me #1 The Godfather #2 A Clockwork Orange #3 Apocalypse Now #4 Taxi Driver #5 Jaws #6 Star Wars #7 The Godfather 2 #8 The Exorcist #9 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest #10 Chinatown
My top best movies of the 70s are : 1 Godfather 2 . 2. Godfather 1 . 3. Star Wars IV A new hope . 4. The Exorcist . 5. Taxi Driver . 6. A Dog Day Afternoon. 7. Jaws . 8. The French Connection . 9. Rocky 1 . 10 . Alien . Honorable Mentions : Chinatown , The Deer Hunter , Serpico , The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Deliverance , Midnights Express , Apocalypse Now , Annie Hall , Superman 1 ,Rocky 2 , The Sting , A clockwork orange , One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest , Grease , Carrie , The Omen , Barry Lyndon , Kramer vs Kramer , Dirty Harry , Novecento , The Towering Inferno, Mean Streets , And Justice for All, The Conversation , Halloween 1 , All The Presidents Men , Papillon , Marathon Man , Straw Dogs , Patton .
I don't want to be that complaining fanboy, but I think Star Wars should have been #1. I'm not saying it's the greatest movie ever made (it's definitely not) but no movie in history has ever had the Impact of Star Wars. Cinema wouldn't be what it is today without Star Wars. I mean, it was (next to Jaws) the first ever Blockbuster. You can't watch a TV show without getting a Star Wars reference. The VFX was revolutionary. The Characters are Cinematic Icons. Everybody knows Star Wars. And let's not even begin with the undoubtedly most iconic movie Soundtrack of all time. Even if you never watched it, you know the characters, the music, you know the Story, you probably had the merch at some point of your life. It's just sad that movies like the Godfather aor Citizen Kane are constantly preferred for the #1 spot, because it is more serious, and Star Wars is too much Sci-Fi and Fantasy. No other movie has had the impact of Star Wars. It was impactful when it was released and it had the longest lasting impact than any other movie ever.
Kilian Belahcene i think movies like citizen kane and godfather are referred more as number one not because they are more serious but because they are better written and deal with heavier subject matter but dont get me wrong star wars is one of my favorites and definitely changed cinema
Great to see so much brilliance that came out of the 70's. Now we have "The Avengers". Not really bagging it because I'm a bloody old nerd, but the depth to the stories we used to see was far greater. I'm guessing that's why there's more people complaining about 'how boring' the old movies are. I weep for the future. Flame on, people.
Don't get too sentimental and remember the amount of shit that came out of the 70's. It's nice that people remember all the good movies and interesting stuff but people don't seem to realize that there were literally shelves full of garbage amid the brilliant movies.
+Jack stratif 3 year old post, I know, but it warranted response, I believe. You are right to point out that most films made in the 70s were b-movie trash. Fact is, most movies in ANY time period are going to be trash. True talent is rare, people who want to make an easy buck are not. That said, the quality of the top grossing films of, let's say, 1976, vs. 2016, is disparate. Let's have a look. 1976 Top 5 Highest Grossing Films. 1. Rocky 2. To Fly! 3. A Star is Born 4. All the President's Men 5. The Omen 2016 Top 5 Highest Grossing Films 1. Captain America: Civil War 2. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 3. Finding Dory 4. Zootopia 5. The Jungle Book I mean, come on. Zootopia wasn't a bad film, but it wasn't of the caliber of the '76 films at all.
+Super Sapiens If u think THE DARK KNIGHT is Trash then u r Probably an Old Fart,Narrow Minded Person,A person who only like Fight n Bombastic scenes like Michael Bay movies or U know Nothing about Cinematography.I mean Seriously why do u even watch Movies How the Fuck is Dark Knight trash it has Best Villain,One of the Best Soundtrack n Story telling in Movie History,Almost every scene is Intense and Acting from everyone is 1000 times better than Batman 1989.Not saying that Batman 1989 is bad it is a Great Movie but The Dark Knight is on Another Level n it is 1000 times Realistic than Batman 1989 and You are the one who Probably have a Mind of an Edgy Kid if u think The Dark Knight is Trash

You forgot Close Encounters Of The Third. Anyway, the 70s were so amazing that for every movie remembered in a Top 10 movies of that decade, there are 10 classics that you are letting out.
ikr. One thing that bothers me is that they censor f word, but they don't censor words like s**t, c**k, c**t, pu**y, fa***t, or d**do. Really stupid of them.
you have to be living under a rock cut off from all media and human contact your entire life to not see or at least know all these movies plots and what they are about so stop being whiny
I love A Clockwork Orange too. It's my second favorite book-to-movie adaptation, because that movie is so well made, it can stand alone. It agrees with the book, yet it is creative enough to be interesting.
Not everybody loves star wars..actually there is a lot of people who haven't even seen the movies and a lot of people who don't like it. so I would say there judgement is just right :)
***** when someone mentions "Star wars" they immediately think of the cash grabbing prequels instead of the originals, which although die hard fans liked people new to the franchise will think that they're terrible/ already seen bad reviews and will put them off. I honestly thought that the Phantom menace and clone wars were the weakest and thought that in some ways most of the Phantom menace was rather pointless, but that's my opinion.
My Top 10 Movies of 70s 10. Alien 9. Jaws 8. The Deer Hunter 7. Dirty Harry 6. Chinatown 5. A Clockwork Orange 4. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest 3. Apocalypse Now 2. Taxi Driver 1. The Godfather
10. Chinatown 9. Apocalypse Now 8. Rocky 7. One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest 6. The Deer Hunter 5. A Clockwork Orange 4. Jaws 3. The Godfather 2. Taxi Driver 1. Star Wars
My picks would be: 1. The Godfather 2. The Godfather Part 2 3. Apocalypse Now 4. Network 5. Chinatown 6. Jaws 7. Alien 8. Taxi Driver 9. Life of Brian 10. Dog Day Afternoon Top 3 HMs: Star Wars, Halloween, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
+Darkzz Lord So if a movie was made back in 1978, everyone has watched it? What if he was just about to rent the movie on UA-cam? Your argument is invalid. Gtfo.
A suggestion for another top ten. A really hard one as well. Top ten best movie catchphrases. You could split it into different genres if you wanted to or different eras of film.
It's often considered to be the greatest decade for film ever and I think it was. Both Hollywood and foreign film were at its best and put out so many classics
Yeah. Think how influencial this decade was and how quotable! How often did people say something like "I make him an offer he can't refuse" or "I like the smell of fresh in the morning" and probably didn't even know what he was referencing.
My favourite is The Deer Hunter. It easily became my favourite movie of all time after I first watched it in 2012. It’s such a beautiful movie that perfectly documents how much soldiers went though during wars. Also, Christopher Walken’s performance always leaves me in chills and makes me cry
10) Annie Hall 9) Star Wars 8) Jaws 7) A clockwork Orange 6) The Deer Hunter 5) Apocalypse Now 4) Taxi Driver 3) One Flew Over A Cuckoo's Nest 2) The Godfather 1) The Godfather 2
The 70s had many of history's greatest directors, where many of them had the latitude to craft their trade and make films they way they wanted to, without being over controlled by the studios and production companies. No other decade had so many quality films, films that were complete in all aspects, well written with intelligent dialog, top acting, cinematic storytelling, lighting, and photography. Just to list a few - The Deer Hunter, Deliverance, The Last Detail, Day For Night, Taxi Driver, Annie Hall, Dog Day Afternoon, The French Connection, All The President's Men, Chinatown, Alien, A Clockwork Orange, The Getaway, Enter The Dragon, American Graffiti, Mad Max, The Sting, Apocalypse Now, Five Easy Pieces, Patton, Mash, The Outlaw Josie Wales, Mean Streets, The Last Picture Show, Saturday Night Fever, Dirty Harry, Three Days Of The Condor, The Marathon Man, Network, The Conversation, Sorcerer, Nashville, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Annie Hall, Manhattan, The Exorcist, Don't Look Now, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Animal House, Serpico, Jaws, The Godfather, and others. These weren't good films, they were great films. Today we have an endless list of mindless "superhero" movies, that appeal to the young and the very young in mind. Director William Friedkin (The French Connection, Sorcerer, The Exorcist) in a 2014 interview in Esquire - WF: "Star Wars is one of a handful of films that changed the zeitgeist forever. If Star Wars had failed, you wouldn't have 90 percent of what's out there today. Star Wars gave birth to all the computer-generated superhero films. They're all a result of the success of Star Wars, and many or most of them have even exceeded Star Wars because of the development of the computer technology,"
I love THE WARRIORS my favorite top 10 movie but I knew it wouldn't make list because it wasn't that world wide iconic.. I was surprised WILLY WONKA didn't make list
not american! ...1 UK film only on top 10 list. Anyway you could do a top 100 70's movies and some great movies would be missing ,it was that good a decade
Considering the 14 films mentioned in this video, here are my lists: TOP 5 (Oscar for best picture winners): 1. The Godfather 2. Rocky 3. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 4. The Deer Hunter 5. The French Connection TOP 9 (the other films): 1. Star Wars 2. Jaws 3. A Clockwork Orange 4. The Exorcist 5. American Graffiti 6. Chinatown 7. Alien 8. Taxi Driver 9. Apocalypse Now
When it came out people saw it as something that could actually happen. In the information age, religion is nothing but fairy tale, but back then people actually believed what they claimed to believe.
There are too many great films from this decade. My list would go like this: 1.) Star Wars 2.) The Godfather 3.) Apocalypse Now 4.) Jaws 5.) The Godfather, Part II 6.) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
My own 70's top 10: 10)- The Omen 09)- Assault on the Precinct 13 08)- Rocky 07)- The Exorcist 06)- Mad Max 05)- Close Encounters of the Third Kind 04)- Halloween 03)- Jaws 02)- Alien 01)- Star Wars Honorable mentions: "1941", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Superman", "Deliverance", "Duel", "Westworld" & "Rollerball"
Because that's what it deserves. But I think it's not that good and overrated - films like "Nashville", "Cabaret" deserve the honorable mentions more than that film.
@@adamfurey7320 how the fuck do you hate Jaws. Like don't get me wrong ALIEN needs to be on this list, like that's my favorite movie of the 70s, but JAWS is also perfect. There is no reason to ever hate JAWS.
My Top 10: 1. Star Wars Episode 4: A new hope 2. The Godfather 1+2 3. Taxi Driver 4. One flow over the cuckoo´s nest 5. Apocalypse now 6. Chinatown 7. A Clockwork Orange 8. Jaws 9. The Exorcist 10. Life of Brian Honorable Mentions: Annie Hall, Monty Python amd the holy grail, Rocky, Close encounters of the third kind, The dear hunter, Alien, American Graffiti , Serpico, The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Oliver Lane I agree about 00s, but imho, 90's was the 2nd best movie decade after 70s. It was packed with awesome movies from the beginning (Goodfellas, Silence of the Lambs), through the middle (Pulp Fiction, Shawshank) to the end (Matrix, Fight Club). "Few truly great"? I don't think so
I love the original Star Wars but it has no business being number 2. Godfather 2, taxi driver, a clockwork orange, apocalypse now, China town, and one flew over the cuckoos nest are all way better than Star Wars
Godfather is already at number one but star wars is more popular than all the other movies on this list. Watch MOJO only makes list based off popularity and taxi driver is not nearly as popular as star wars sadly.
Some that didn't get mentioned but are great movies -- Deliverance (1972) Dog Day Afternoon (1975), The China Syndrome (1979), The Boys from Brazil (1978) -- truly a great decade for film.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Serpico, The Vanishing Point, Mean Streets, and Dirty Harry to name a few. The 70s in my opinion was the best era for film.
MrNastyTouch The Sting, Halloween, Alien, Exorcist, Apocalypse Now, Grease, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Chinatown, The Godfather, The Godfather Part 2, Star Wars, Annie Hall, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The French Connection, All the President's Men, Kramer vs. Kramer, Enter the Dragon, Carrie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Midnight Express, Manhattan, Dirty Harry, The Omen etc...
G4nst4Ch33se Nah, as far as I know that's not how honorable mentions work. If I'm not mistaken, the honorable mentions are movies that didn't make the list, but are still worth pointing out for some reason or another. If there are multiple movies they want in first place they probably just let them fill out the highest places on the list in a semi-random order.
Couldnt agree more, Alien changed the Science Fiction genre forever, and is still making movies. Not only that but it also made Sigourney Weaver a star. No offense to fans of Deer Hunter, but I'd replace it with Alien.
My 80s list 10. Do the Right Thing 9. Ran 8. Blade Runner 7. Once Upon a Time in America 6. Cinema Paradiso 5. Platoon 4. Amadeus 3. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. E.T. The Extraterrestrial 1. Raging Bull
Great list :D But slightly let down after Alien didn't make the list, but the 1970's was a year full of amazing movie masterpieces, and I'm sure it was a tough to narrow it down to just ten movies.
You've scored another triumph Watchmojo!!!!!😄✌️👌👍👏😃🙏 This is way better than some of your other ones. But I really wish you hadn't made that one list of "top 10 most hated songs" that one was mostly wrong.
Loran Coondiddles this type of comments are just stupid. People become a movie fan in different stages of their life. Most people click on the video to look for great movies to watch plus no one knew what's gonna be on the list. By the way, there are thousands of movies made every year, how could anyone fucking watch them all?
Rui Wei Chang I got into film at the age of 10 and still am One of my favorite movies of the generation is the godfather and taxi driver Not that anyone cares just pointing out that you said people get into things at different times
wrong we just remember what is good instead of whats bad. just like music i tell this to whoever says "xyz is the best decade for music". im sure if you lived in the 70s you would have thought alot of movies were really shitty.
relard wisteria I did live in the 70's, and I thought The Godfather, The Wicker Man, Don't Look Now and Taxi Driver were groundbreaking and much more than "Shitty"
My favourite decade in cinema - so many classic masterpieces!! Here's my personal Top Ten: 10. A Clockwork Orange (1971) 09. The Exorcist (1973) 08. Chinatown (1974) 07. The Deer Hunter (1978) 06. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975) 05. Star Wars (1977) 04. Apocalypse Now (1979) 03. Taxi Driver (1976) - My personal favourite!! 02. Jaws (1975) 01. The Godfather (1972) / The Godfather: Part II (1974) Hon. Mentions: •The Conversation (1974) •Dog Day Afternoon (1975) •Barry Lyndon (1975) •Network (1976) •Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
This list proves 2 things. 1) That the order isn't important when you have 10 completely brilliant films to choose from cause your opinions will change week to week and 2) that the 1970's cannot be whittled down to just 10. Wouldn't be suprised if half of the overall top 10 come from this decade. The Excorcist is the scariest movie of All-Time and doesn't even make the top 10? Case in point.
Ok, one thing. You really think "The Excorcist is the scariest movie of All-Time.." ? Have you not watched Asian horror movies? Thai? Korean? Japanese? The Exorcist looks like the teletubbies compared to movies like the ring, shutter, grudge e.t.c.
Couldn't agree more that's one film I have to admit I was so immersed into with the non-stop action. I hardly even realized I was actually watching a movie. And was almost devastated seeing it end.
1. Apocalypse Now 2. The Godfather (Part 1/2) 3. Chinatown 4. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 5. Taxi Driver 6. Jaws 7. Alien 8. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 9. The Exorcist 10. Rocky
The only major superhero movie released after Superman was more than ten years later. I wouldn't say Batman was the real cause of the rise of comic movies, even though they are great (except for a few). I truly believe Blade did it. It's not as highly-regarded as other superhero flicks, but it was the first Marvel movie to do well in the box-office. From there, Marvel began production for X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and more. Marvel is making more successful comic movies than DC anyway.
When Alien and The Exorcist appear as Honorable Mentions, it's a good indicator of how good the decade was for film.
Actually, those 2 should NOT have made WatchMojo's "Honorable Mentions".
Patrick Martin no it shows how bad they are at making lists 😂
@@patrickmartin897 And why is that?

Surprised that The Godfather: Part II, didn't get at least an honorable mention.
Moses Hart Because the godfather is #1
Because WatchMojo almost always has a "One movie/game per franchise" rule for their Top 10 videos.
before anyone more complains, there were to many good damn movies made in the 70s so its hard to even have a fair list
Absolutely right!
Agreed, I think since the 70s there should be a top 10 for every single year and top 20 for a decade
The 70's was the great year for pornography
Very true. That the same case with movies from the 80s.
This is one of the best done lists of Watchmojo, they pretty much nailed it. Also, 70s has to be the best decade for movies.
spinz186 except for Star Wars at 2. I like Star Wars buts not at the same level as movies like Chinatown or Apocalypse now
Brees Goat agree Star Wars only has a place on this list for its impact and innovation. A good movie, but better off in HM than top ten. That being said, I can see the reasoning that puts Star Wars top ten, even if top two is super wishful thinking
spinz186 Yeah I agree that lower top 10 would be fine, but putting at number 2 makes it look like it’s almost as good as Godfather and its definitely not
@Funk O'Matic What about Serpico ?
The 70s are a bit overrated decade when it comes to movies and this is not a great list at all. Extremely uninspired.
I think the 70s was the best decade for film, so many amazing films!
I think the '80s had the best movies. In my opinion the '70s and '90s are tied for second place.
G4nst4Ch33se The movies I have seen from that decade are, in average, better than those I've seen from other decades. I'm not really sure what made them better.
Yeah the 70's were full of amazing and influencial movies.
The greatest decade for films. This list just scratches the surface.

Monty python, animal house
I prefer the fifties

I'm really suprised Star Wars is above Taxi Driver, A Clockwork Orange and Apocalypse Now. Also really no honorable mention for Mean Streets?
bop Well I'm not surprised.
Joseph Preston Star Wars deserved it!
@@kilianbelahcene1712 yeah but taxi driver is a better movie
The Exorcist didn't even make the list? One of the best horrors of all time...
+Nicholas Gabriel That Movie sucks
That movie is downright overrated.
@@severusdelacruz5932 nah, it’s the best horror film of all time
@@ccl7983 No, it's not. Lmao you need to remove yourself from the bandwagon, boomer
@@severusdelacruz5932 it is the greatest horror movie ever 😂😂😂
Great to see so much brilliance that came out of the 70's. Now we have "The Avengers". Not really bagging it because I'm a bloody old nerd, but the depth to the stories we used to see was far greater. I'm guessing that's why there's more people complaining about 'how boring' the old movies are. I weep for the future. Flame on, people.
Don't get too sentimental and remember the amount of shit that came out of the 70's. It's nice that people remember all the good movies and interesting stuff but people don't seem to realize that there were literally shelves full of garbage amid the brilliant movies.
Jack stratif
Yeah, don't worry. I know there was crap that decade as well, but I've mainly put most of that out of my mind.
1. Rocky
2. To Fly!
3. A Star is Born
4. All the President's Men
5. The Omen
2016 Top 5 Highest Grossing Films
1. Captain America: Civil War
2. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
3. Finding Dory
4. Zootopia
5. The Jungle Book
I mean, come on. Zootopia wasn't a bad film, but it wasn't of the caliber of the '76 films at all.
Comic book movies have a demographic anyways. Good films are always there especially indie ones with the inclusion of the internet.
+Super Sapiens If u think THE DARK KNIGHT is Trash then u r Probably an Old Fart,Narrow Minded Person,A person who only like Fight n Bombastic scenes like Michael Bay movies or U know Nothing about Cinematography.I mean Seriously why do u even watch Movies How the Fuck is Dark Knight trash it has Best Villain,One of the Best Soundtrack n Story telling in Movie History,Almost every scene is Intense and Acting from everyone is 1000 times better than Batman 1989.Not saying that Batman 1989 is bad it is a Great Movie but The Dark Knight is on Another Level n it is 1000 times Realistic than Batman 1989 and You are the one who Probably have a Mind of an Edgy Kid if u think The Dark Knight is Trash

i would have put Network in top 15 and added some movies not made in USA but that's my opinion
where is stalker?
How the heck was Enter The Dragon not on this list?!!! It was one of the most influential movies of all time!
yea exactly
Hell yeah! 1st Hollywood made martial arts 🎥 and also influenced many others as well as action movies
Thank You!!!!!!!🤔😉👏👍
Why do you guys bleep out the swearing but you show violence?
Watchmojo isn't exactly family-friendly. I'd rather they didn't show either one.
ikr. One thing that bothers me is that they censor f word, but they don't censor words like s**t, c**k, c**t, pu**y, fa***t, or d**do. Really stupid of them.
You know it is a good decade when you number 10 is rocky.
Lol so true.
Grease .... One My Favorites of the 1970's
Dirty Harry should have been on this list
Matthew Drake I agree. Gotta love Detective Callahan
You guys really need to cut back on the spoilers. I mean, I've already seen these movies, but I'm a little worried for all the people who haven't.
I thought the same thing. They were two for two right out of the gates.
Spoiler Alerts are not necessary for movies that are older than the Demographic. Thanks for the chuckle anyway.
you have to be living under a rock cut off from all media and human contact your entire life to not see or at least know all these movies plots and what they are about so stop being whiny
I'm glad you picked The Godfather as #1.
that is something Unquestionable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .
The screenplay of Chinatown is still pretty much unmatched. What a timeless, genius movie!
Totally agree.
It's among the rare ones which I return to over and over again. Although it's a thriller it has this soothing magic to it.
The Chinatown screenplay has been used in film school as a study for decades
Jaws definitely belongs on here, It's a Steven Spielberg classic.
A Clockwork Orange is my favorite fucking movie next to Amadeus.
You sir, have a fine taste in movies.
Thank you, friend. Unfortunately, I live in a house with people who watch Twilight and National Treasure. Constantly. = n =
I feel sorry for you
Nate Haimson I haven't seen Twilight, but National Treasure is cool.
I love A Clockwork Orange too. It's my second favorite book-to-movie adaptation, because that movie is so well made, it can stand alone. It agrees with the book, yet it is creative enough to be interesting.
Annie Hall, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Godfather Part 2???!!???!?!?!?!!??!?!?
Exactly what i was thinking. ( I know that this was anout 4 years ago but idc ) (:

Yes it should. That's the one thing I would change in this video.
Also animal house

Star Wars is NOT number 1? I find your lack of judgment disturbing...

How? You simply can't see every film ever made. Why you hating

The 70's really where the times of originality and oscar-winning successes. These are not just films of the 1970's, these are masterpieces.
A suggestion for another top ten. A really hard one as well. Top ten best movie catchphrases. You could split it into different genres if you wanted to or different eras of film.
I didn't realize how many awesome movies are acutally from the seventies! Great list.
Best movies of the 70's
Anything with Robert DiNero, Jack Nicholson, Marlon Brandon, or is Star Wars.
That is pretty accurate in my opinion
My favourite is The Deer Hunter. It easily became my favourite movie of all time after I first watched it in 2012. It’s such a beautiful movie that perfectly documents how much soldiers went though during wars. Also, Christopher Walken’s performance always leaves me in chills and makes me cry

9) Star Wars
8) Jaws
7) A clockwork Orange

5) Apocalypse Now
4) Taxi Driver
3) One Flew Over A Cuckoo's Nest
2) The Godfather
1) The Godfather 2
The 70s had many of history's greatest directors, where many of them had the latitude to craft their trade and make films they way they wanted to, without being over controlled by the studios and production companies. No other decade had so many quality films, films that were complete in all aspects, well written with intelligent dialog, top acting, cinematic storytelling, lighting, and photography. Just to list a few -
The Deer Hunter, Deliverance, The Last Detail, Day For Night, Taxi Driver, Annie Hall, Dog Day Afternoon, The French Connection, All The President's Men, Chinatown, Alien, A Clockwork Orange, The Getaway, Enter The Dragon, American Graffiti, Mad Max, The Sting, Apocalypse Now, Five Easy Pieces, Patton, Mash, The Outlaw Josie Wales, Mean Streets, The Last Picture Show, Saturday Night Fever, Dirty Harry, Three Days Of The Condor, The Marathon Man, Network, The Conversation, Sorcerer, Nashville, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Annie Hall, Manhattan, The Exorcist, Don't Look Now, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Animal House, Serpico, Jaws, The Godfather, and others.

I disagree I think there is very few truly great 90's and 2000's films
Oliver Lane not the 90's. Shawshank Redemption, Forrest gump, pulp fiction...
I don't think so
Oliver Lane Aliens has to be there a truly amazing film of it's genre
One word : goodfellas
Good decade. Damn good decade.

Midnight Express, Manhattan, Dirty Harry, The Omen etc...
Those aren't this decade.

What?! How can Alien just be an honorable mention?! It should have been among the top three at least.
G4nst4Ch33se Could you clarify what you mean? I don't think the honorable mentions are numbered, if that's what you're saying.

This is way better than some of your other ones.
But I really wish you hadn't made that one list of "top 10 most hated songs" that one was mostly wrong.

Exactly
Loran Coondiddles this type of comments are just stupid. People become a movie fan in different stages of their life. Most people click on the video to look for great movies to watch plus no one knew what's gonna be on the list. By the way, there are thousands of movies made every year, how could anyone fucking watch them all?

True. Most groundbreaking films came out that decade like "Taxi Driver""A Clockwork Orange",And "The Godfather"and it's 1974 sequal

No, case in opinion.
Ok, one thing. You really think "The Excorcist is the scariest movie of All-Time.." ? Have you not watched Asian horror movies? Thai? Korean? Japanese? The Exorcist looks like the teletubbies compared to movies like the ring, shutter, grudge e.t.c.
I'm not trying to debate scariness with you brother. Would you feel better if I said, "is widely considered the scariest"?
Yes I would brother

I know that these lists don't show much love for foreign movies but Das Boot and Grave of the Fireflies gotta be in 80's list
sadly they aren't widely known and that was one of the factors that determined the order of the list
great list , love the 70s
Superman (1978)??? without it, superhero movies wouldn't be as big as they are today...
as in none existent for 30 years?
The only major superhero movie released after Superman was more than ten years later. I wouldn't say Batman was the real cause of the rise of comic movies, even though they are great (except for a few). I truly believe Blade did it. It's not as highly-regarded as other superhero flicks, but it was the first Marvel movie to do well in the box-office. From there, Marvel began production for X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and more. Marvel is making more successful comic movies than DC anyway.
True
+Josh Thomas No, it wasn't Blade, it was Superman.
One of my 70s favorite movies is the exorcist
