    Did anyone else notice the water flowed around the outside of the floodgate and back into the river during the badwater test. Needs one more levee. Biffa is in for a surprise when it hits and turns all his water bad. Things going wrong is on track for this season though.

    LADDERS: They need to be built on empty ground, but then a path needs to be put up to and under the bottom ladder. Also, one side of the “cube” has the ladder go up, which blocks the ability to walk through and off the ladder from that side.

    • @samtro
      @samtro 26 днів тому +10

      Plus, beavers can only build two levels upwards, so if you need to build higher _up_ you must put 2-level scaffolding next to it, so they can "step out" and build the next two ladders

      Yeah, the blocked side is key. It prevents you from being able to to do things on all 4 sides of it. You have to have the ladder blocking an empty direction. Building them carelessly causes them to block access to the buildings you are stacking. So you can have 1 path, with storages on the left and right, and the ladder blocking the foreward direction, leading to an effective dead end path with storages stacked as high as you want them on both sides, but you can't continue the path without a whole 2nd stack of ladders back to back for a really long detour up to the top and then back down the other side. If you don't want that, then you have to skip a layer of storages, such as the bottom layer, and use something like 1x1 platforms or offset storages so that one ladder can block that side direction while the rest block the foreward or backward direction (since they have access via the ladder they are built on top of, you can block the ground entrance direction)

    • @avemt1
      @avemt1 25 днів тому

      Beavers can use ladders to climb and build on top of other ladders. You can remove a path to put a ladder in as long as the ladder is on the side away from the building entrance. The problem with your current ladder setup is that it is not connected by a path on the ground and the ladders are blocking the building entrance. Turn the ladders 180 degrees and put a path connecting the bottom ladder to the path just to the north. Ladders automatically make a path for the solid building/ground spot they are on.

    • @anialator1000000
      @anialator1000000 25 днів тому

      @@avemt1 they can't build while standing on the tile they are building on, which is what happens when you stack more than 2 ladders. Due to their ability to build up only 1 tile, the 3rd ladder is out of reach from the ground, forcing them to climb the ladder to reach it. But without some platform to stand on, then they just end up standing on the 3rd ladders tile and thus can not build it. Maybe an older version allowed this, but not this one.

    I’m not seeing anyone else give this tip so figure I can throw it out there: You should plant other crops besides Kohlrabies. They’ll need some additional processing but the food per day and per tile is much better. That means you’ll need fewer beavers employed in food production and few tiles devoted to food production if you use other crops. This was something I had to learn with the Iron Teeth the first time I played them.

    • @littlebear274
      @littlebear274 25 днів тому +3

  • @Lars1690

    You don't need to switch the Farmhouses from harvesting to planting and back. Just put them on planting and they will also harvest the crops when they are done growing. The only harvest option is for example when you need to get everything fast before the water dries up or if you want the bulk of the crops harvested by the farm nearest to storage and others plant new

    • @fokeyjo
      @fokeyjo 15 днів тому

      With Iron Teeth there's an efficiency trick, because harvesting takes longer than planting. Build 2 farmhouses, one with 2 beavers and set to harvest only, the other with 1 beaver and set to plant.

    The ladders for the storage: Either rotate them 90 degrees or build platform in front of the storage doors and the latter stack next to them. With the latter method you ca build as high as you want.
    ..and yeah connect the paths also at the bottom. Loving the plan, I tried this map and failed utterly 😅

  • @Jockles

    you can (and should) build two or three waterwheels side by side so that you're covering the whole river, and you're capturing as much power from the flow of water as possible. I'm sure I'm not the only person to say so, but scrolling the comments on mobile is an arse. And the waterwheel acts sort of as a blockage in itself, so the water slightly prefers to go around it if flow is low (As it is on this map)

    The ladders act as paths you just have to connect them. You also need to make sure the ladder side isn't towards where you want them to go, they cant get off and move through it. You need levees on the side of your badwater diverter, its gonna flow back into your fresh water as it is now. You need to lower your work hours again, that's why people are not getting food and water.

    Hello biffa! I've seen the video, and I have some remarks; first of all, ladders have 4 sides and one of them has theladder, and this side the beavers cannot go trough, but can go in the 3 others side. also you should start to plan the path to the dem, and you should put the corner piece before you forget to, as we all do. and with your badtide deviation thing, the water can go beside it and end up in your river, contaminating it. And in case you need to, i remeber you there's 2 other water sources on the map.

    The last time I played on that map was a while ago (before badwater specifically) but what I normally do on there is make a big vertical box of water at the top water source and then also build up a tile or 2 each side around the river on the top of the mountain, and later dynamite down a few layers. That way you can store quite a lot of water stored on top of the mountain. One technique to also consider is making "power channels" where you dynamite out a trench, drop a mechanical power shaft in it and put platforms with a path above. This brings power, water (and therefore fertility) wherever you want it. It can be a great way to open up new areas becasue you bring all that with you.

      yep those up to 30 day droughts on hard mode are definitely a killer, you need lots of storage, iirc you need enough storage for Water/food, 3 units of water per beaver per day and 3 units of food per beaver per day(example 100 beavers need 900 water and 900 food for a 30day drought), for IT you also need berries on top of this number for reproduction.

    You know what could be cool for a third faction? One that focuses on fluid dynamics. For example, they could build wells which would be slow, but provide a constant source of drinking water, even during droughts and badtides. In addition, as they progress with science, they could build aquifers and aqueducts, which would automatically transport water over long distances.

    Hi Biffa,
    The ladders have 3 openings for routes because the ladder is in the way of the 4th until the one at the top which can be accessed from all 4 directions. you just needed to rotate them and it would have worked but best to keep in mind which directions you might want paths in the future because you can path through ladders as well.

  • @nitricoxidegod
    @nitricoxidegod 25 днів тому

    In the SE corner there is a water source. You'll have to construct q way over there I suggest just using levees, since you're going to need to build a wall anyway. Use the Dynamite to blow a hole near the water source so the water can head south from the view you shot, once you build your bypass, and secured the other flood gates since you need 2 sides, I suggest exploding to the level of your lowest terrain in both ends of the first inlet so you can make sure that the bad water escapes, then just north of where you shot your photo you should just use that small gap that's there to set up the main dam, it'll provide a lot of clean water when done as long as you don't forget to open and close the gates you should be set. Also, if you keep going a little further south you can use the cliff on the that side of the mountain which you can use for batteries and an industrial complex, unless you just want to use the platforms in the water of the lake you just created. Enjoy. Sorry for the long comment

    Ladder's cannot be placed over built paths but you can place a path on the ladder like stairs after they are built. The ladder will join a path from 3 directions, so the ladders can be inline with existing paths but you have to remove the path section first then place it back by clicking on the ladder. I absolutely abuse the ladder and forsake the stairs in favour of it.

    With the water wheel. I don’t play timberborn, so don’t take my word for it. But maybe it’s some finicky mechanic because the water needs to flow “sideways”.
    I would try to move the whole contraption with the water wheel and sawmill adjacent to the 7:13 water pumps, and see if that helps. If not, then I’ve got no clue!
    Great job and best regards as always!

    • @crowaust

      Water mechanics in the game are a little finnicky but the easiest solution would have been to double up the wheel, and have 2 water wheels.
      The water takes the route of least resistance, and the water wheels have a resistance, and the free flowing tiles beside it was enough to basically reduce the flow through the wheel to nothing.

    The struggle (to watch U do easy things look hard) is REAL ;)
    I would only say that waterwheels need the flow of water to go through ONLY middle block - it's the only one registering - so if You block flow the way that water has to go through the middle block of waterwheel - it will be optimised as best as can be.
    P.S.
    As for the "deathwaves" - none of it happens when You breed well - and it is possible with iron beavers, because You decide when they are born - all You need is to have breeding vats working in sequence rather than all with the same timers. Start new breeding process every day at dusk - have up to 5 different timers for vats and later in game - add more vats to each timer. Then You will have beavers being born (and eventually dying) every day/few days one or (later) few at a time, rather than many born (and then die) at once.
    Bear in mind that increasing beaver happiness increases their lifespan A LOT - so try to improve beavers happiness level every breeding cycle if possible at start - and later in game at least once every new season cycle (green + drought/badwater). It works! No death waves - just steady flow of workforce FOR THE MINES !!!! Buahaahahahaahahaha !

    Put 2 farmhouses side by side and set one to prioritise planting and other harvesting. And maybe 1 beaver is enough for each.

    • @littlebear274
      @littlebear274 25 днів тому

      I don't think you really need to have one focused on harvesting. The ones focused on planting will harvest so that they can plant and it saves a huge amount of time because they'll plant the new crop as soon as they've harvested the old one, so they aren't leaving the whole field empty because they haven't gotten the last few crops yet. The only time you'd need to focus on harvesting is if you're desperate for food because everyone's starving or if you want to get the last crops in before turning the land to a different use, if you want to just have more workers to speed up production you have them all on planting because you want as little time as possible when there's nothing in the field.

    • @KimOstberg
      @KimOstberg 25 днів тому

      @@littlebear274 That also works. Now both are just harvesting and fields are at times empty because no-one is planting.

    Note the lower level, you could close the last flood gates and make the river spill into the crater. This would keep the land green during the draught as well.

    • @littlebear274
      @littlebear274 25 днів тому

      That's what I was thinking, TNT a couple of tiles would maybe be more effective but before researching it just flooding the whole area so that some of the water spills into the hole would also work since there's nothing really there yet that would suffer from being flooded.

  • @jgamefactory
    @jgamefactory 25 днів тому

    With the farms never set them to prioritize harvesting. If you do that they will harvest the entire plot before planting new plants which means you won't have new food growing while they harvest the rest of the grown food.

    dont prioritize harvesting on your farms, it is restricting your food production because they will harvest all the food before they plant more giving you a time of no harvesting.
    unless you have lots of farms grouped together always have farms set to planting so that when they pick the food they plant more straight after so you end up with a constant harvest with no down time (unless you dont have enough storage)

    During a drought the water will be downstream and upstream there will be drought

    Kohlrabies is the least efficient crop, try cassava, you need a fermenter, but it feeds far more beavles per square of farmland.

  • @crit-c4637

    tldr: building 1 height lower will waste less wood, waste less land, and be easier to control.
    I think the great dam should be 1 block height lower than what you planned. There will be a lot less flooding control needed and on the tributaries you will only need to make individual dam instead of damming over the top of the raised land between. That'll also let you build/plant on the raised land between the tributaries.
