Once you unlock the bigger platforms, the metal ones, you could start building on top of your artificial lake. Which would be really cool.
Oooh yeah 👍😁
Is fun, the hassle part though is levelling the ground beneath so platforms line up. Isnt too bad, just need some pathing in the lake. Still fiddly.
Some useful bits:
if the path to the deep pumps is too far away, you can just build platforms/bridges to cut the corner off.
You can always leave the intermediate floodgates at 0.5 instead of always having them at 1 or 0.
It's worth checking the other options in the fermenters, as I think it's cassavas you can ferment without the oil being used as well.
It's better to use mechanical pumps for circular water systems instead of the manual dump, the manual dumps come out of your pumped water storage. Great for little irrigation ponds, but you could drain your stores otherwise if you're not careful
Raise the top floodgates before the drought! Your water channels are only about 75% full if you close the floodgate when the drought is announced.
Also the mechanical fluid pump can keep a good amount of water flowing up top. When you get control of the badwater and can use it for power generation during droughts it can keep fresh water flowing thru your colony!
Thanks for the tips!
You should build a Platform path through the middle of your new massive dam, to provide the pumps with faster pathways
Great idea 👍
During the Bad tide you should activate the 'BIFFA'

Stick a water storage tank near the deepwater pumps on the reservoir. That way the workers will fill that, and the hauliers will deal with moving it around the map.
Also, you've got a patch of land inside the reservoir that's only one deep - perfect for aquatic farming.
I'd also replace the top two sets of flood gates with dams, so you don't need to keep opening and closing them.
Isn't the Aquatic Farmhouse a Folktails exclusive building?
Oh, you mean Mangroves, don't you?
What you should do to help the “Feelings” is you can place platforms over the paths and then place roofs/bushes/statues on the platforms.
Also, platform over the water in the dam and move your houses/industry over the water and reclaim the land for trees/food.
If you add the automation mod the water gauges become useful - you can link flood gates to a water gauge and have them automatically close at the start of each badtide and open only once the contamination is completely gone.

Brilliant 🤣
To keep the upper river full, you need to close the floodgates a little bit _before_ the drought happens. As is, you’re storing half a tile of water because of the dam at the end of the river. But if you close the floodgate before the dry season, you’ll fill it all the way up to a full tile, which will last you twice as long.
also close the one on the bottom for a bit and let it fill the hole so you can keep the area with more water during the drought
You can use the mechanical pumps to keep the upper river full. They can also be used to create self regulating irrigation channels by placing a dam underneath the pump. They don't need the full 700hp to run, one engine is enough.
You should also replace the wheel of shame with an engine, doesn't require workers, only haulers.
Move the water pumps to the reservoir and blast channels on the plateau to help any irrigation. Remember the water crops are for one block of water and the iron teeth have mangrove trees.
Have Biffa finally notice some spots he did not plant the trees on the starting "terrace"? There were young trees there when he marked the area for the oak planting...
Also, fluid dumps fill the bodies of water up to their own height, meaning they won't flood themselves, but will flood everything lower than them.
Guess he'll notice that next time he records.
This map is big enough that you're gonna need to use the multiple settlements feature, you're already pushing it in terms of travel distances
LOVING this series tho, don't get me wrong lol
Biffa! Despite you needing berries for beaver... procreation, I suggest moving the berry operation to elsewhere and using that prime land for more farming/building/etc. It's good land and I think it's wasted on the berries. Or at least reduce the amount that's there. You can plant berries using the forester hut.
Because of the time it would take, I haven't calculated the total amount of water that can be stored. I did however painstakenly count the surface area of it, which could be used to calculate the maximum capacity assuming you dynamite down to the ground.
Per layer, it can hold a whopping 962 cubic metres of water!
Wow!
So given the depth at the deepest point is 7 (one more than the 6 of the deep water pumps) that puts the maximum capacity at: 7 x 962 = 6,734 cubic meters of water - if all excavated to that that level. My best guess for the current capacity is probably about 1/3 of that since most of the area is only maybe 2 or 4 cubes deep and the top most level is a half deep layer. So that's 2,245 cubic meters, and given that there are 1000 liters in a cubic meter that gives 2,245,000 liters of water. So genuinely not that far off the value in the title. :D
(Also just as little trivia the maximum capacity of the Hoover Dam is 2,480,000 cubic meters of water. Or about 1,000 what this dam holds. 😯)
17:26 Now we need a mod for the boats or little beavers water construction and is a perfect artificial lake
time for swimming pools and movie stars :)
Would be better to move the water pumps to the other side of the floodgates on the large dam. The beavers would have a much shorter distance to carry water.
Or build a couple of platforms so there can be a path around the flood gates.
Observe how dams and gates work, notice that a single gate at setting 0.75 = a dam, and notice that a gate before/behind a dam doesn‘t really do anything.
Biffa to maximize the land you can use you should dam the bad water as close to the source as you can after you've used dynamite to create an outflow off the map. This way the good water and bad water shouldn't ever mix.
yeah if terraforming is a thing than that would be the absolute first thing i'd do.
give the bad water the shortest path off the map.
@@darkracer1252 he's moving it back slowly but surely :)
you can call it the BAFS
BAd water Flush System
What a nice little dam.
I built a giga super reservoir on the other side of the hill. It has a height of 6 and is best created with "Extended Floodgates". 😁
The water is easily enough for my 200 beavers for 100 days.
You should offer even more variety of food, I think the easiest to start with is cassava root.
After that, corn is very effective, but you need a little metal. You can easily make hundreds of beavers happy with that.
You have too much kohlrabi, 3/4 of it is not harvested at all. You should build more storage for food. When the big droughts come, you will thank me.
It's fun to watch you, I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Looking good, im on the same map and instead of the fluid dumps at the top of the river ive made an area of it 3 deeper where the dumps are and that lasts fine through droughts, not done a mega dam yet, although i may do, i damed the smaller area one ledge up and palced bigger pumps in that little hole that filled up, although it dries up in droughts, so far i still have enough water
i placed 2 badwater pumps it the top of the river at the badwater discharge dam, to get my initial badwater for dynamite
Excellent plan… once funneled, those bad water sources could be use for power production too. may i suggest to build more districts to execute it. those poor builder beavers are working on projects that are very far from theirs with source of materials that are very far also.
Oh and once you open the tech, you might wanna try using mechanical pumps to maintain water level on that plateau.
Looking in horror at the available drinking water at the end of the episode, poor beavers will be quite thirsty
A few things:
1) Never have have gates all the way down - have all gates 0.5 below maximum, so when you close them before the drought, they are filled up. Also, close the gate at the outlet BEFORE (like half an hour before) closing the top, so you start with maximum water at the beginning of the bad season.
2) Build some shortcuts around the gates of the big dam, and possibly later also a long bridge - a long trip from the new pumps will be terribly inefficient for haulers.
3) There are a few other crops that don't need canola oil - try to prioritize food variety first, it builds up the wellbeing and makes beavers faster, more efficient and live longer, which makes everything run more smoothly without needing a ton of beavers to compensate. You can reduce kohlrabi fields - beavers go for the better food when available, so you'll end up with wasted crops of kohlrabi as they will only eat enough to have variety. It will just rot in the fields or demand huge storage with the amount you have now - a third of the current fields is more than enough, the rest can be other crops.
Great tips thankyou 🙏
We definitely need timberborn vids at least 3 times a week! Cant get enough of em biffa.
me too
One pile of dynamite at any point along the inner boarder of that horseshoe bend in the river will turn that deep pit into a deep water storage area, to give more water options
You can replace the gates from the cliff down to the farms with dam pieces and replace the gates from the farm area to the mega dam with dam pieces, you won't need to constantly adjust the height all the time
There are _already_ dam pieces there, that's what saves 0.66 water when he forgets to raise the gates _before_ the drought starts.
Biffa where the water and bad water meet at the edge of the map you can dam in-between and make a funnal so all the bad water flows of the map
21:17
Also I would say you would need aleast five water dumps and I would put some more water pumps on the mega dam or the deep mechanical pumps as your water was dropping quickly with only two
use those dump pumps and make your own river
You shouldn't fully open the flood gates along the river during good water. If you leave them on half open you'll always store half a tile of water to keep your crops alive thought the longer droughts.
It'll be enough to let the water pass through without flooding.
With that lake I think you have already beaten the map. Impressive stuff!
Now the beavers can get a bit more sleep, don't you think? Btw, I'd love to see some lidos on the lake...
Im waiting for the first badwater now XD The damn is not ready for it :D
😳
What a great dam!! You will never need water again plus more area turning green!!🤩
The badwater thing should be called CLIFF - Contaminated Liquid Induced Flood Flow
I have to wonder how long it'll be before Biffa starts dynamiting the bottom of the reservoir to make it as deep as possible. In the meantime, there's now plenty of new land to build on.
Your damn has no overflow system. This means if you set the height to 3 blocks, the water will raise up to three blocks and flow over the walls creating a huge flood.
1. You can either replace two of the levees with the standard damn pieces (max. water level: something between 0.5 and 1 block height) so the water automatically flows through it if it reaches about 2.65 blocks height. (gain 0.15 x area of Waterblocks more storage).
or
2. You always have to set the floodgates to 2.5 blocks height.
Badwater expulsion... maybe.. Badbrew spout? 🙂
Biffa, if you leave the flood gates at 0.5 lower than the surrounding, they will work as levees, and store a little water, but also let water flow over. Then you won't need to bring them up and down all the time
For the badwater expulsion, I'd suggest: Filthy Extraction Channel for Excess Sewage.......
I know, not exactly game-lore, but as a plumber, I find it fitting 😊
Loving this series, Biffa! This has turned into my UA-cam series of choice while eating my lunch on Saturdays!
Thankyou 😁
A couple of large water storage tanks plus a food storage would do wonders for the poor little guys working out there
2 water dumps are enough to keep up with evaporation in your little main channel, BUT, you need to move them down a tile to the high water mark, it else it will overflow.
Nice dam, there is a lot of shallow land, perfect for water trees
Oh Dam! Matt definitely has some real competition here! Biffa you're just too good mate lol
Thankyou 😁
You should build a quicker way for the beavers to get to those deep water pumps. They’ll spend most of their time going back and forth, rather than pumping. Either build a quicker way or put some tanks on platforms near them.
Name for your badwater diversion: Badwater Technological Expulsion Apparatus System (Badwater TEA System)
so to help with the water issue at the top, DONT fully open the gates at the first drop, keep them at half and you will keep more water up there all the time.
also the water pumps could go by the 2nd gate rather than on the big dam, that is a LOT of water and that spot would be a LOT closer.
I think overall planning wise just remember that all water sources will produce bad water in bad seasons so be careful of accidentaly comtaminating green areas. Theres an area close to your resevoir that has a steep face but if you make that part of the resevoir it would he a good place to put your 6 deep pumps and not worry about dynamite.

You need to close flood gates just before dought starts. Closing them when you did does ABOSULTELY NOTHING as the water has already stopped flowing through the dams in front of them.
Dam!
Indeed! 🫡
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Seems as good a place as any to let you know that beavers don't get over being contaminated, they just die
The water dump should be built at the level of the water. Otherwise they’ll keep pumping even when starts overflowing. If it’s at the waterline they stop when it gets to the top.
If you put your floodgates at .5 instead of 0 during wet seasons, you will have a lot more water during droughts. .5 won’t overflow the banks, it’s basically the same, as having a dam in place.
You really need to rethink the bad water deflector wall plan. Best to do it on the other side of the map
Love this series!
Biffa you could add 2 more floodgates on the side of your new dam as there is 2 natural channels there already. Even more green land for use!
Keep it up, best part of my saturday and even got my brother hooked on the series 28:40
Nice 👍😁👍
Maybe you should build a water rig in the middle of the reservoir, kind of like a oil rig but designed to pump blue gold.
That could both look cool and shorten the walking distance.
I like it!
I was watching a video and apparently if you use tanks they don't evaporate. But if you have dams or open bodies of water they do
Before large metal platforms an epic bridge across the dam/lake would be cool (also shorter path for water pumping)
Badwater Expulsion Device for Tide Interuption of Massive Envireomental damage, og the BEDTIME! NASA please get me a job :3
🤣👍
It would be interesting if they added durability to dams were they break down over time
Now, dynamite all the shallow bits to make it uniformly deep...
Here's an acronym for your system:
B.A.D.S.
Bad water

This is a real California level dam - well done!
For the calculating the number of water dumps needed press alt +shift +z to open developer mode then click a water source for the evaporation rate and other fluid stats like source power and stuff. It differes from map to map. Generally it would be something like 0.00000002 or a similarly small number.
6 blocks of water equals to 30 units (1 small) tank. 1 block = 5 units of water.
it is the BBB,
Biffa’s BadwaterBender.
Hi Biffa You should harvest the electricity if you placed the turbine in right place
The fluid dumps look like they're built too high. The only reason they are working is because they are too pathetic to fill up that large a space. But if they did manage to, it would overflow. They need to be built at the level where you want it to stop, the mechanical fluid dumps are the same
Biffa, have you considered an irrigation channel to improve and expand your available farm land? Then, build a platform path over the channel so it is ground level path for the beavers, but water below for the fields.
I most certainly have ;-)
Integrated Badwater Switch, or Badwater Auxiliary Redirect Flume. 😁😉
😅
This is my first time watching one of your Timberborn episodes, and I gotta admit, I was in it for the dam!
Also, that acronym you tried to make - how about a TWEN: Tainted Water Expulsion Network
OR
A TEA - Tainted Expulsion Automation?
Ooooh nice 👌
Thoughts on the Badwater Expulsion Vital Regulator (or BEVR)?
😅 love it
Triple fludgate is not enough, they must made 4 and 5 sections fludgate
The one thing i don't like about the ironteeth, their food production is very involved and requires a lot of steps
That was a nice one.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍😁

By my workings out your new dam should hold approximately a lot of water 😅😂
I shall make a note! 🤣
I cannot make a proper estimate with what little visual data I had as I hadn't been able to distinguish how many blocks there are in the obstructions, but I estimate an EXTRA 950-1180 units of water. It may be less, but it is an estimate
I have seen 1:06 of this game ... and i need it. Not now cause life happening, but like next friday.
your estimation:
enough water is being stored
Great Series
Well, thats about it, not the entire number
That is as of the point 18:59, and remember, i said EXTRA
I wonder if four beavers hauling water to a dump that powers a water wheel would be more or less efficient than four beavers pushing the wheel... I mean, it shouldn't be, but some of the thermodynamics in the game are a bit fishy...
Great entertainment 😊
Love your video's.
Maybe research dynamite? To make some channels for bad water.
Thankyou 😁 and I certainly will 👍😁
hell yeah!!!
Nice Video!
Thanks!
Well.....well dam! 🤣🤣🤣
Hmm... thats only 5 000 cubic meters of water. Used to pump more per hour in real life. :(
Hey Biffa, heads up, your playlist for this series is out of order.
Great series, btw 😊👍
I don't know what's the name of this game but it looks entertaining as heck. I would like to give it a try.
This is Timberborn and it's great fun 😁
That’s dam big
I think you have beaten this map.
Math, oh no not math😉👍
