COMMON QUESTIONS: If some of my wording bothers you when going over these tracks, saying that "x track isn't super crazy/isn't so bad/is a little easy," then I highly suggest watching at least the ending part at 1:48:46 where I talk about my thoughts on the difficulty of the dev times overall -- None of these times are easy, but I was gauging them relative to optimization and the general difficulty of the rest of the times. All of them are fairly respectable times at a minimum, but some are definitely easier than others. If I stopped at every time and said "yeah this is very hard" then that would kind of defeat the purpose. Also, if you're curious why I paused during Spyro Circuit, check out this clip: clips.twitch.tv/IronicConcernedAubergineBuddhaBar Unfortunately, like I said at the start, there isn't a lot of major tips to give for these courses other than "don't lose fire, and cut corners as much as possible." These times are really meant to be for people that can already hold fire and want to get better at optimizing their lines. For some tracks, this will be a massive jump up even from the Velo times. If you can't beat all of these times, you definitely shouldn't be ashamed, there are only about 800~ players that had times consistently in these realms before this patch. Pace yourself, if you start to tilt, take a break. Q: How do you u-turn without jumping? A: Grounded U-Turn. There's a video linked in the cards when I mention it, and also a link in the description about it, but I'll put it here as well: ua-cam.com/video/elgpTDFiAo0/v-deo.html -- at around 3:40 in that video is where grounded u-turns are being explained/shown. Q: What do you mean "double tap the boost pad?" A: At 40:43 if you watch, I hit the boost pad, and immediately jump at the base of the ramp, and land on the pad a second time before jumping off the end of the ramp. Just listen for the turbo pad sound, if you hear it twice, you did it right.
I‘m almost a year late, woo-hoo. Haven‘t played in over a year either but I got myself into all the deeper mechanics back then to become more competitive online. I want to definitely say: There were a LOT of surprising tips, seriously! Not just the typical „hold fire and cut corners“, you went into crucial parts of the tracks here and there and that will honestly help me endlessly. Today I got Crash Cove‘s and Drive-Thru Danger‘s Dev‘s Times. Will work on getting all of them. Either way, your voice is incredibly pleasant to listen to and this was actually very fun to watch, just wanted to have said all that!
Q: How often are you supposed to hold the accelerator button? Do you hold it most of the time unless U-Turning or do you only hold it until you get a boost going (so basically never)? I've been trying both and it makes sense that you would never hold it when you have a boost going, unless the accelerator gives you more speed (but I don't think it does.)
@@sijan824 Half a year ago N. Tropy was INSANELY hard for me. But by late October/early November I had all the PSN trophies and all Oxide times. You'll get there! It's honestly a battle of patience more than skill. I still sometimes get upset on my first or second time trial attempt and start messing up a lot. Haha.
I couldn’t beat N tropy for a while but I eventually got good enough. Oxide was a nightmare waiting to happen back in the day, especially for tiny temple because I couldn’t keep blue flame. Few days ago I finally got digital n tropy and I was so happy. Not even touching Velo or developer times tho
I remember playing the original CTR and being like “Oxide is impossible”, years later I replay CTR on this remake and I beat Oxide, I felt good, then Velo comes and makes me cry, and finally Beenox times come and I wonder if god truly exists
Actually, some of the Oxide ghosts on ps1 are just as difficult as some of the developer ghosts on CTRNF, because the controls back then weren't as accurate as they are today. It is not fair to compare... rather, the old Oxide is not comparable with the new one. The old one can sometimes be a real nightmare, while the new one is almost always a joke.
Every time a newbie complains that this game is too slow, I die a little inside knowing they’ve never seen the terror that rests deep within that is the time trial mode.

Big question: where the hell do my reserves go on papu’s pyramid? Because every time i roll up the spiral they magically disappear on me. I’ve had a 1:28 before the update and now i can’t do it for the life of me.
Papu's is kinda rough on reserves. if you play as accel you can actually line it right to do a 3x powerslide while doing the spiral even with SF, otherwise you gotta just do 1x, u-turn, 1x, u-turn, u-turn and land on the pad. Also you can do a different grass cut if your reserves are really sketch, which lets you powerslide a little sooner, just go inside the first piranha plant instead.
I used to be an acceleration main. But then drift came, and it had the exact same handling. So i was like "why not?" But i still play with acceleration sometimes online.
Ain't drift now the best? In play the game back since two weeks now, beaten adventure on hard, platinum relics, Oxide on every tracks, velo sometimes with King Chicken and I get that drift has best handling and speed, reducing possible mistakes AND rewarding you even more for making none?
some of them, yes! in general walls seem to act differently though. If you just slightly brush a wall, sometimes you won't lose fire. Someone else had said that depending on how you brush the wall, the wall might just steal some reserves rather than take your fire away entirely. I haven't been able to mess with this much, but there are a few times even in this video where I touch a wall and don't lose fire. Overall this has made time trialing way less frustrating.
k1koth3gre4t they probably felt the same we did like: “Thats fucking bullshit that shouldn’t have hit what a fucking broken game” and fixed most tracks lol
Dunno, but the Roo's Tube looks extremerly fake af to me... Alas, I raise my non-existing hat for beating dev times with Acceleration class, which I'm not customed to (Drift is my personal favorite)
14:25 wait how do you do u turns on this track?! Also I see that the courses have previews…. Mine apparently does not show that, is there anyway I can get those previews on the course selection screen like in coco park with the fountain being animated, is there a way I can do this or no? Mine is on the switch so just was wondering.
After watching this and using it as a guide to improve my driving skills (playing this on a Switch is a pain in the ass) I have 2 questions: 1. How changing a driving style can make a difference? I mean, I play on drift style, but I don't really know which driving style is better for this time trial stuff (and playing in general). 2. 1:15:87 on Thunder Struck.... HOW THE FUCK?! Great video and channel btw.
I've only done 7 of the dev times (at the time of making this comment) and I don't know if I'll be able to do all of them. They are SO hard, I'll update this comment if I do all of them.
Just say “shortcut” it’s literally the same number of syllables as “SC” and people will actually know what you’re talking about. Honestly this generation and it’s use of abbreviations for everything is atrocious!! Also how are you getting round that S section so easily?? You’re not even jumping to U-turn.
game thinks the ghost went out of bounds, so it bugs out and tries rendering the ghost getting picked up. I've seen it happen with other people's ghosts. only happens when you're very close to falling.
Megumi and coco taste! I play as baby coco and Tawna/Isabella. I’m really struggling on papu cause of the spiral I might try acceleration instead that was always my class.
And then there's me, Who has beaten all Velo times with Balanced (the class i use the most) and now i'm depressed that some of this are impossible with this class (looking at you Crash Cove, damn you William)
I managed to beat all the developer times, but it was agony. Most were done with the drift class, but speed was needed almost 50 percent. I often watched videos of the dev times and aimed to be around the time for each lap.
I actually had to suck it up and use Speed/Drift for the majority of these. The only ones I did with Turn Engine are Cortex Castle and Tiny Arena. Easiest ones imo: Mystery Caves Tiger Temple Papu’s Pyramid Dingo Canyon N.Gin Labs Tiny Arena Cortex Castle Oxide Station Thunder Struck (ow my hands) Android Alley(I lose fire in the middle of L3 and still won) Twilight Tour Hardest imo: Crash Cove Slide and Turbo OoT (my fucking hands) DSD (I found tube cutting to be kinda inconsistent)(Beaten by .01 LOL) PPg Rustland DTD (i needed compression gloves for these) I don’t look forward to doing this again on PS4...
oh, are you actually primarily a Turn player, or Accel? This list is pretty spot on. missing Electron Avenue from easy though. How hard some tracks are definitely depends on if you're limiting yourself with a different class, like for accel, the top 4 is probably Crash Cove, Koala Carnival, Spyro Circuit, and Megamix Mania, since they're all within like half a second of accel WR, while for other classes they're definitely more mid-tier.
iTheDashy Turn for every Blue Fire Track except Twilight and Koala Carnival; those are Accel and Speed respectively. I also main Turn on Pyramid, Dingo, Slide, Tiny Arena, and Dragon Mines. Mostly online because I rely on other players sucking lol. Every other track I use Drift with the exception of Sewer Speedway, which is the other track I use Accel on.
Also Electron Avenue is weird for me. Doing the hairpin feels weird on anything that’s not Turn Engine. And my Turn Record was basically one frame under the Dev Time. If I didn’t tear my wrists doing DTD beforehand, I would’ve probably tried Turn Engine on Electron.
Other oddities like Dingo and Pyramid are Turn viable as well but DSD pissed me off so hard I needed these tracks to cool me off. Sub 1:20 with Turn on Dragon Mines seems impossible imo. Same thing for Slide.
Most other Blue Fire times are optimized to the point where Turn is either within frames or impossible outright. Sorry if I keep pinging you with replies. More ideas keep popping in my head.
I feel like most of the tips here are "honestly this one is quite easy. Just keep your flame amd you'll be good to go". Which is equivalent to just saying "to beat this just be good at the game"
Those wall jumps on Sewer Speedway are crazy. It's annoying drifting in that area because sometimes you'll be on the wall and you'll hit an invisible object and just fall flat like you ran into a wall. I'm about to practice that shit. Thank you for this compilation.
20:33 "Just get your fire, hold it and take all the shortcuts" Yes but that applies to EVERY DAMN TRACK, do you do a U-turn to get the boost pad on Papu's? Is Speed at all viable on Papu's?
So watching the video, you noted how the dev was 4 seconds behind you on Papu's Pyramid and that you were unable to figure out where they lost time. I honestly think it may be because you did that grass cut and the dev did not. I'm also learning quite a bit of ideas to try out on my own end once I manage to master u-turning. Don't think I'll go for dev times but perhaps Oxide first... still need to beat Tropy and let's just say Dragon Mines is getting close to me losing a controller out a window.
Here are my times for all of you to compare. The characters I list are their default driving style. Kart wise, I used the classic wheels and body for the CTR tracks and the driver's respective color and limited myself the tthe CTR characters. CNK, the 16 characters and the four team karts. The bonus tracks I did with Nitro Fueled items characters, outfits, karts, etc. Now then... *BEHOLD MY TIMES* Crash Cove: 1:19:70 (N. Tropy) Mystery Caves: 1:59:76 (Papu Papu) Sewer Speedway: 1:47:36 (Dingodile) Roo's Tubes: 1:16:80 (N. I think Inferno Island is probably one of the easiest I lost my fire like 3 to 4 seconds before the turbo pad on Lap 2 and I still beat the ghost.. at least the dev has a cool name lol

It because the game thinks he fall down
I used to be an acceleration main.
But then drift came, and it had the exact same handling.
So i was like "why not?"
But i still play with acceleration sometimes online.
Ain't drift now the best? In play the game back since two weeks now, beaten adventure on hard, platinum relics, Oxide on every tracks, velo sometimes with King Chicken and I get that drift has best handling and speed, reducing possible mistakes AND rewarding you even more for making none?
Hi, Dashy, are invisible walls fixed now?
some of them, yes! in general walls seem to act differently though.
@@iTheDashy If we get improvements like this, maybe it isnt farfetched to think, that they're gonna do some item balancing and bugfixing.
devs got so annoyed going for these times that they fixed bugs in-between tries
k1koth3gre4t they probably felt the same we did like: “Thats fucking bullshit that shouldn’t have hit what a fucking broken game” and fixed most tracks lol
I dont know what you’re smoking dude but some of these time trials are absolutely messed up. Hot air skyway for one.
Hey man quick question, how do you turn so fast with acceleration? i cant seem to do what your doing by turning very quick... any tips?
Dunno, but the Roo's Tube looks extremerly fake af to me...
Alas, I raise my non-existing hat for beating dev times with Acceleration class, which I'm not customed to (Drift is my personal favorite)
I think one of my favorite things about watching dev time trials is watching players squeak by on near-chokes, and still hold it together.
kill me. Is this Devoloper Times or World Record Times?

@@FeiiSR Wow, nice copy and paste.
@@Tman258587 Wow, nice piggybacking.
kill me. Is this Devoloper Times or World Record Times?
I still need practice lol. I'm still struggling to beat Oxide's times because I can't seem to keep my fire going without brushing against a wall.
At 1:23:25 the dev ghost had a mask? ...how?
Beating their ghosts with accelaration is humilitation for them
It's 2023 and this guide really helped me with getting these damn wheels
great to hear that most tracks can be done with acceleration
i main aceleration class and i thing this was impossible, Chalenge accepted! thx for the video dude
Odd how in Coco Park, Oxide takes the shortcut Lap 1 while Velo doesn't.
Great video.
I play mainly accel and when i beat Velo by 3 seconds on Slide coloseum i was so happy.
Then i saw the WIlliam P time and my heart just sank.
I have passed the first 15 dev times in the last 2 weeks
I had the game only like a month and a half ago
This video helped me so much keep up 👍🏻
Hey thanks for showing me how to take that fence shortcut on blizzard bluff
Video begins: 0:00
People: OmG hate this freaking guy voice plss start this shit now *proceeds to skip intro
"Don't lose Blue Fire on Out of Time. ez"
In cortex castle, how do you do that so called "double tapping" on the blue fire turbopad? Can you do that in any turbopad?
Yes but its alot harder
Hey wanted to ask when you say double tap the nitro boost pad how do i do that im asking about the cortex castle map
Megumi one of the best trophy girls indeed ;3
After watching this and using it as a guide to improve my driving skills (playing this on a Switch is a pain in the ass) I have 2 questions:
1. How changing a driving style can make a difference? I mean, I play on drift style, but I don't really know which driving style is better for this time trial stuff (and playing in general).
2. 1:15:87 on Thunder Struck.... HOW THE FUCK?!
Great video and channel btw.
for the dev trials you should def use speed except for a few just to be as fast as possible
Wdym this generation? You don't know if hes a millennial or Gen Z lol
1:23:25 Hold up why does the Dev have an Invincibility Mask on?
game thinks the ghost went out of bounds, so it bugs out and tries rendering the ghost getting picked up. I've seen it happen with other people's ghosts. only happens when you're very close to falling.
Ha n. Trophy is no faster i m don’t like costume is it i want to see the fake crash
Slide, turbo, DSD and prehistoric playground were so difficult for me. I need to learn the blades in DSD...
Easiest ones imo:
Mystery Caves
Tiger Temple
Papu’s Pyramid
Dingo Canyon
N.Gin Labs
Tiny Arena
Cortex Castle
Oxide Station
Thunder Struck (ow my hands)
Android Alley(I lose fire in the middle of L3 and still won)
Twilight Tour
Hardest imo:
Crash Cove
Slide and Turbo
OoT (my fucking hands)
DSD (I found tube cutting to be kinda inconsistent)(Beaten by .01 LOL)
PPg
Rustland
DTD (i needed compression gloves for these)
I don’t look forward to doing this again on PS4...
oh, are you actually primarily a Turn player, or Accel?
Man the speed is way faster in this game than Mario cart. My sun said
I got all the oxide times and several velo times but these dev times are beyond me lol
beating the dev times is not so hard, as a wise CTR youtuber once said in italian.accent: CORNERING GODDAMIT
I know speed is like the best engine
But is acceleration actually good for online and etc?
Oh god I recognized the VA-11 Hall-A music.
ALWAYS VA-11 Hall-A music in my vids.
Two months ago I did imma try. I gave up. Stressed me to my limits. But still I’m gonna try when I have the need FOR SPEED
On few tracks here, dev ghost passes the finish line before you and you still claim the win???
In your dev video you beat The Dev on Prehistoric Playground by 1 millisecond!
“With acceleration”
*Bitch what*
Edit: You know what, I take it back. Go king, go.
Thanks for the tips, almost beat oxide,he won by 1 sec -_- but ill try again ^.^ thanks again dashy
20:33 "Just get your fire, hold it and take all the shortcuts"
Yes but that applies to EVERY DAMN TRACK, do you do a U-turn to get the boost pad on Papu's? Is Speed at all viable on Papu's?
Hey can I ask how do u unlock the time trial ghosts I tried unlocking ntropy ghost in mystery caves but it wont show
Hot air skyway is such a fun track for casual racing with friends and such but the Dev trial is so hard it's just not fun 😅
Studying this video religiously so I can just unlock trophy and the champion cart
SICK MYSTERY CAVES RUN!!!
I don't think that is the dev time based of me watching the dev reactions on the ctr Speedrun...
H... howw do you U turn without hopping ? On turbo track.
U-turn without jump input. Practice it, might take a few tries.
ua-cam.com/video/elgpTDFiAo0/v-deo.html
So watching the video, you noted how the dev was 4 seconds behind you on Papu's Pyramid and that you were unable to figure out where they lost time. I honestly think it may be because you did that grass cut and the dev did not.
I'm also learning quite a bit of ideas to try out on my own end once I manage to master u-turning. Don't think I'll go for dev times but perhaps Oxide first... still need to beat Tropy and let's just say Dragon Mines is getting close to me losing a controller out a window.
iTheDashy: h
N. Tropy: *Am I a joke to you?*
Midget Waffles he’s pretty much a joke to everyone
I need a t shirt saying "don't lose your fire, cut the corners as close as possible" with a ctr logo
Now then...

How do you turn so sharply in the air not sure if it's a extra thing or I'm just doing something wrong my turns just seem to be way wider
I've tried for 6 hours now and I can't even beat oxide on dragon mines and I want to throw my Xbox out of an airplane pls help
I only have 3 more Dev times left!
Turbo Track.
Hot Air Skyway.
Drive-Thru Danger.
This vid has helped me out alot.
In Papu's pyramid looks like lap 2 and 3 the dev doesnt cut the grass
So which one is better? Acceleration o drift? That's a big question I can't solve
How you can past Prehostoric playground ?
Excellent job and very nice play in this map
I think Inferno Island is probably one of the easiest I lost my fire like 3 to 4 seconds before the turbo pad on Lap 2 and I still beat the ghost.. at least the dev has a cool name lol
So many of these tracks are ahead of my pb by less than a second and that's very frustrating.
