One of the most moving and deeply personal statements on love in any medium. It's not just about romantic love, nor just familial, but _love_ in its truist and broadest sense. Every time I watch it, I'm a sobbing mess by the end. The DVD commentary is very informative about the episode's origins, for those interested. For me it is amongst the handful of greatest stories from the '80s TZ revival. For those watching this the first time, enjoy one of the greatest love stories ever written!
This writer agrees with the Authors views and thoughts. Its the first time he has seen this, and at age 74yrs, I will admit to being also 'a sobbing mess' at the end
Danica McKellar, three years before The Wonder Years. What an episode to appear in, too. It's neat to still see this and think she and I are the same age. We were only 10 when this aired! CBS Friday nights in the fifth grade were awesome with a lot of shows like this.
My favorite episode. Connects odd behavior this lifetime to last lifetime trauma, something I've known most of this lifetime. A much better delivery of truth than The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. Happier ending too.
babies come on their own timetable, u cant plan that, be happy when /if you get to have them, i love being a sahm of my 2 gorwn daughters very much, 80s babies.
Good job I watched this before reading any of the comments - there's a few very heavy spoilers - one in particular will spoil it for you right from the get go. So if you want to watch this spoiler free, DO NOT read the idiotic comments posted that absolutely spoil the whole episode. I just can't believe people can be so dumb!!!
A heart breaking but sweet and very touching story. A ghost story with a modern twist. A soul, departed too early, returns to the reincarnated soul of her husband, to save him from a desperate, loveless life. To remind him of a love that had been, and of a love still to be had. the "ghost" in this case, is not jealous or sad or selfish, but sends her loved one off to live a good life with someone else who loves him. "Is it better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all?" an eternal question that troubles us all. But I think it would be better to have had love, because it becomes part of your soul. Why else does it hurt so much when you lose it? But if it becomes part of you, you cannot really lose it. Maybe you just need to be reminded of it, like this man was reminded, by a true ghost in the machine. A genuinely interesting and very moving story, far better than anything produced today. And a real happy ending!
This is *THE QUINTESSENTIAL TWIGHLIGHT ZONE EPISODE HONESTLY IN MY OPINION THE BEST EPISODE EVER PUT TO SCREEN.* I honestly interpreted as *Kevin is Robert reincarnated* and Nola is his *wife , a second chance at a full life with Kevin* he can let the old her go because he already has her again , he needs to focus on the now ; the Nora he has now. On second viewing it’s obvious Karol is Nola , they make it clear many times through dialogue. perfect story, pacing , characters and twist ending with a very heart tugging conclusion. I know how it feels to loose people you love early my mom and the love of my life , she reminded me of what I think my mom WOULD have been but I didn’t have the courage or necessary things to love her and I know that I don’t want the fear of losing someone and loving again to pass over to my next life. As of March 2024 my ranking for 80s twighlight zone is: 1) Her pilgrim soul 2) A message from charity 3) The invisible man 4)There once was an old lady 5) The saucer of loneliness.

Wonderful episode! And having been working in the ITC field(Instrumental TransCommunication), I've been receiving communication in different ways for 11 yrs now. I've only gotten communication through various audio techniques, but lack one and that's a real time conversation. I'm close to figuring that out. But to be able to actually see spirit while communicating in real time, would truly be an amazing feat.
I don't think so. Robert's grief was so strong that it passed down through generations. Nola's purpose was to break the cycle of his fear of love, with her love.

******************** *May contain spoilers, read on at your peril* ***************************** All of which begs the question, is his current wife the reincarnation of his lost love? If not, will this new woman's soul get along with the other one in the after life? How does all that work out?
You're overthinking it. Kevin was Robert, and although he did not remember Nora, he knew something was wrong, which was why he was having problems in his marriage. When he'd relived the life he'd had with Nora, he realised what the problem was. In the original timeline, Robert had let his life spoil in grief. Now he had a second chance and Nora made the sacrifice so he could find happiness with Carol. I don't think you have to think further than that, tbh!

stupid story watching this episode I just kept thinking about this guy's wife and how I would have loved to been taking care of her while he was messing around with the computer at his office
Women are a dime a dozen! A man's work is far more important! The great Albert Einstein got rid of his first wife when she was interrupting his research!

I remember Gary Cole in American Gothic. Brilliant actor.
"A cold reset?.....It will take all day to power it back up again!" .....Hah Hah, now it takes 12 seconds
Alan Brennert is a terrific writer.
Well written story, better than a lot of scripts for movies.
Gosh Gary Cole is sure young in this!😍😍😍

Well, it was quite obvious from early on where the story was going. But of course it doesn't detract from the beauty of it.
I sincerely don’t remember this one at all. And, I thought I watched this as a kid religiously.

10 months an hour would actually be 10 years every 12 hours, or 20 years every day. No wonder these scientists don't understand what is going on...

I wanna believe his modern day wife is the reincarnation of Nola.
That’s what I think is implied by Nola , this is my favorite episode.

Hi, so can you explain the ending a little more for me?
So Kevin is Robert reincarnated? And Nola is Kevin’s wife Karol Reincarnated?

A pretty story about reincarnation.
Inspire of the fuzziness and old tech, it can't diminish the good story at all.
The ol smothered mate routine!

@QuadriviumNumbers if you listen and connect the dots. It clearly said that he was "Robert" in his previous life...
