Dennis Rodman shuts down Shaq - 0 pts in 2nd Half/OT (Full Version)

- Опубліковано 12 бер 2015
- Shaq has only 4 pts in the 2nd Half + OT, and 0 pts with Rodman guarding him in the 2nd half.
Rodman shuts down Shaq as usual when Longley/Wennington aren't guarding him

You know you're important when Jordan and Pippen prevents you from getting thrown out.
dice1331 Word
Jordan actually super competitive. He was probably worried about Rodman getting a technical and the Lakers winning by a free throw.
Tracy Davison yeah the most important things
dice1331 those are the facts
Nobody prevented him of getting thrown out 20 s from the end of the game.
They prevented him of getting a tech an a free point to their opponent when they lead the game by only two
2 points 18 rebounds. LEGEND.
2 pts clutch time
imagine having 0 points, 10+ rebounds, 10+ assists, 10+ steals that would be siick
Aerochalklate facts but very unlikely
Luther Blissett right he knew his role
Sakuragi 😁🤣
He had one job, and he did it perfectly.
shaq said in an interview i think "rodman was the strongest player he faced"
Yeah, Rodman was superhuman, he was much stronger than he should be for someone in his height and weight class. After every game, he would do a full body workout, before going out to party with his friends.
Ben wallace has something to say about that🤔

What Rodman did more than anything is induce a sort of chaos and panic which caused opponents to make bad decisions on offense. There's no stat for that.
5:11 just look how frustrated Shaq gets, throwing his giant bison body around.
+ztoxtube What we see here though is mainly a case of Rodman understanding weaknesses in Shaq's game (Rodman obsessively watched tape of other players looking for weaknesses to exploit) and also a case of Rodman being freakishly strong. 100% he knew Shaq's offensive game was predicated on continuously backing his man down until he could get close to the basket to shoot a short hook. Rodman made a concerted effort to keep Shaq away from getting into his relatively small comfort zone near the basket. Rodman was giving total resistance in terms of strength most times O'Neal tried so much as to back him down one step - and he forced Shaq to attempt to back him down further away from the basket than where most other defenders would usually allow O'Neal to start doing his back-down routine.
+ztoxtube Thats exactly right, he brung that perception and I think thats genius.
I remember one game Rodman touched shaq on the ass & shaq went crazy! Lmao,I was a shorty rolling at that shit. Goes to show you how accurate your statement is.
+marksamuelsoncable Excellent analysis...
Pippen and Jordan holding back Rodman and falling down is just too cute and hilarious 😂
Is true, lo que pasa es que ellos saben que si lo expulsaban se les caía el partido ya que rodman era una pieza fundamental en ese partido
"That's stupid Rodman?" He didn't start it. The NBA was bias against Rodman
Was thinking the same thing. Some of the commentary towards Rodman was ridiculous...
V.B right! It made no sense. What a jerk
Ikr wtf is dis shit the dude took the ball after he called timeout and then shaqs ugly ass came over there tryna fight cuz Rodman locked him up
That guy was trying to take the ball and the ref hasn't called the timeout he can do that
Don't disrespect the legend Chick Hearn
Rodman is extremely strong. Shaq realized he couldn't bully him like did others in the paint.
5:11 tho. How's that not a foul on Shaq lmfao
This man speak FACTS!
What paint fool.¿
Rodzilla practically lived in the gym plus I think he majored in psychology in college which was why he owned the minds of every opponent he faced including MJ which is why he made Dennis the Menace top priority to play on the Bulls
theydidntnameme I mean that’s the paint where contact is to be had. And he was just off-balance.
Still incredibly dangerous though from a human standpoint lmao
I would pay to see Rodman guard LeBron.
6:20 Rodman and Pippen are laughing
Who do you think will win?
If Rodman can shutdown Shaq, he can shutdown Lebron like nothing
Rodman would send Lebroni to the hospital on a stretcher
@Stonewall Jackson not a chance.. He defend Jordan well when he was in the Pistons.
It was a different time. We'll never see another Dennis Rodman type of player because the things he used to do are no longer allowed in the NBA. Pity.
Agreed. Same thing with Dikembe Mutumbo and his famous finger
wagging after blocking opponents(which he even continued to do even AFTER being asked to stop by then- NBA Commissioner David Stern). It was a different time.
It is strange how the peak of basketball happened during Stern's term, and he also destroyed basketball by banning handchecking for example.
@@codingsource7309 yeah he kinda ruined the NBA for us fans but he made it better for him why? He banned hand check so players could move freely and it means HIGHLIGHTS also the 3 second rule which also prevents big man camping inder the rim waiting for the opponent to come there which also leads to more highlights and HIGHLIGHTS means more viewers and more viewers means more MONEY SOO... I MEAN I LOVE HIGHLIGHTS BUT THE NBA IS NOT BALANCED ANYMORE
@nQ_Ash 99 nah it's Draymond green Patrick Beverley just has a lot of energy and quick cause he 6'1 and more of a trash talker

Funny moment when Rodman and Pippen fell to the ground, they were laughing because of this.
Jordan wasn’t though 😂😂
John O’Rourke right lookin like wtf y’all doin 🤣🤣
I really laughed on Pippens reaction,,they looked like kids who fell in the ground
Jordan didn't laugh because since that it was personal for him
When Pippen laughs its not good for the opposite team
Rodman was a real student of the game of basketball. Whoever he defended his whole career be would lean on them, which is totally legal. He boxed guys out ultra effectively and over time would just wear them down and opponents would fatigue and make poor decisions. Since Rodman never focused on offense he was double focused on defense.
@Jethro Derp his job wasn't to score
Isaiah Thomas said he would toss the ball at the rim with different spins at different spots on the floor for hours so he could recognize and anticipate the rebound
This game Made Me Love Rodman even more and appreciate him for what he was. He was truly a regulator on the court and Shaq could not bully him like he did so many others.
nobody till this day can play like Dennis Rodman rt
Tristan Thompson and Draymond Green are the only potentials but even that is still a long shot to equalling Rodman.
TOuGH Godspell Tristan has the potential but draymond is too dirty he's not as skillful as rodman
draymond cant rebound like dennis and tristan cant play d like rodman
I'm sure if some of these players had the mentality to play like rodman, a few of them can
B Rilla The Chicago Bulls in that time we're too good the coaching was great and so we're the players
Really love how Jordan and Pippen pulled rodman back when he and shaq were talking trash. True leaders

His Airness, The Worm & No Tippin' Pippen. If like me you got the pleasure to see these guys then we need to realise how lucky we were to witness history in the making.
I like how the only points rodman got were the game clinchers

Good observation. The say the ball looks for the player. That ball knew who the player of the night was.
I really didn't see what Rodman did wrong. But I guess when your labeled the villain everything you do is wrong.
I think they new Oneal couldnt hit free throws so they'd just foul him and get the rebound
The foul on Shaq was flagrant. He grabbed his arm
it’s so funny how the old white announcers who do nothing get to decide who’s the villain...

wow Jordan, Rodman and Pippen so unstoppable. I love how crazy Rodman is he has that unpredictability.
This game is from many years ago yet I still clapped so hard when I saw Rodman nail the freethrow. Hahaha. I love this NBA era!
He was actually pretty solid at the free throw line, especially when it counted.
Nobody ever did that to Shaq Dennis is just phenomenal There'll be no one else like him
a lot of people hate on dennis but he was the best did it his way
Shaq relied on mismatches and bullying, when a real defender like Rodman played him he got shut down. Overrated ? Bill Russell would have destroyed him.
Barbar ben wallace destroyed shaq in multiple times and twice in playoffs when shaq is in lakers finals vs detroit. and detroit beat miami in playoffs. wallace man handled shaq

The Original Bad Boy shut down The Diesel. One of the best defenders and rebounders of all time. Maybe the best. That's why he's a Hall Of Famer.
There's no maybe about it, name one other NBA player that could shut down the top scorers of all time, and lead every game in rebounds.
I wouldn’t say he alone shut him down it would be different if he didn’t get double teamed every play😂😂
6:54 lol Jam is blasting
Yeah..ii loved him on the Bulls, but he'll always be a bad boy
Rodman was a freak of nature!!! People never realized how strong Rodman was for a B Ball player. Rodman was one in a few of NBA players who could bench press over 400lbs. That's what helped him to obtain his many rebounding titles over the course of his career. Shots out my boy Rodman...aka the Worm!!!
Thats impressive af, ive always had respect for Rodman but now even more 💯💪🏾🔥

Rodman is the best rebounder of all time.
Edit: Please stop arguing about Wilt, Bill and Rodman. This argument is pointless, Rodman wears the crown as the best ever. It was earned in his pure unadulterated determination to win every rebound.

tired of everyone saying rodman didnt play offense. his passing was on par with a point guard even at full court. and he had a brilliant basketball mind. between setting picks, filling lanes, and assisting 23, 33, 7 he was very involved in the offensive highlight reel that was da bulls
For sure. Dennis was a PHENOMENAL passer. Dude's court vision was as good as anybody's
I watched this game on tv when it was played. Rodman was kind of a love or hate guy. His antics were often quite frustrating to opponents, so if he wasn't on your team, chances are you didnt like him. But I was a huge Bulls fan. I was skeptical when they got him that his style and lack of scoring was what the bulls needed. But his energy was off the charts, and if there was a 50/50 ball in play, it always seemed like he came up with it. Nobody can deny his heart, legendary hustle, and his swag. Man was absolutely a hall of famer and to be honest, his defense on Shaq and others was some of the best I had seen. Think of how he rattled Kemp, Barkley, Malone, any of the days other stars. That allowed Scottie and Michael to do their stuff and not worry about the mess inside. It was rough down there in the box and I think they needed Dennis to be banging around and getting fouls on the other teams bigs to swing games. He was a complete A$$ but the man had unreal cardio if you ever saw him live the man simply could run anyone in the NBA out of the gym on any given night and I mean anyone!
He could guard the perimeter too at the same level that he could guard the paint. The Bulls just didn't need him to do that.
This was when basketball was BASKETBALL !

Damn Rodman is a beast!
shaq had 50 lbs, 6 inches and 10 years younger, and rodman owned him
Quarantine Gragas That’s false. Look at the stats 96-03 Shaq was prime shaq. I’m these days, Shaq was more athletic and faster.
Quarantine Gragas Dude. Yao Ming, Ben Wallace, and Chamberkain could stop him
@Quarantine Gragas no. They call him "the most dominant player ever" because they are skilled at marketing... and it seems to have worked on you.
This isnt Orlando Shaq here. This is Lakers' Big Diesel... this was his sixth year in the league / 27 years old. He was 320 lbs and, besides shooting a higher FG% this season than later, the rest of his numbers are essentially identical to his three peat years.
Rodman matched well against Shaq. That sort of thing happens. Happens with Lebron vs certain players, it happened with Kobe, it even happened with MJ. And fans of those guys will readily admit this. But there's something about Shaq fans: you guys have yourselves entirely convinced that "nobody can guard Shaq. NOBODY. He's THE most dominating...." bla bla
Well, people could and did defend Shaq very well sometimes: and this video provides clear evidence.
@Bob George true. Like I said "some players could and did defend Shaq well."
Rodman was definitely one of these. That was my point.

jordan picked up rodman like he was his child acting out in public, “one more time and were going home!”
This is why Rodman is one of my favorite players of all time (and I'm a Lakers fan).

Universal Suffrage Hakeem Olajawon
all he did was grab him from behind while shaq was in mid air.. lol idiots.. shaq can't fight haha, he was too big to fight, mma history shows that guys over 265 pounds and over 6'3 are at a disadvantage, way too hard to defend take downs. even dennis rodman is too tall to be an elite ufc fighter at heavyweight.
Actually, rebounding is all about positioning. Quickness to get to a good position, and an innate talent of knowing where a ball is likely to bounce (given distance and direction of the shot) are more important than pure strength.
When Shaq simply backed Rodman down, the Bulls doubled. No amount of quickness or positioning can overcome pure strength there.
Only other was Ben Wallace, him and Rodman are the goats of defense imo

Rodman all time best defense player ... Period
I’m here right now, because shaq mentioned longley and wennington but forgot to mention Rodman, when he said no one on the bulls could guard him. That’s the reason he said his lakers would beat the bulls. Sorry, Shaq!! You’re wrong.
@Quarantine Gragas Rodman is keeping Shaq of the glass, and I can see Kobe having trouble vs. '96 Scottie. Scottie on Portland kept Kobe to 42% from the field in the 2000 Finals as the primary defender, which is great. MJ would have trouble vs. Kobe, but in 2000-2002, Kobe was undisciplined and gambled too much on defense, so he either got a steal and started a one-man fast break or got blown by and left in the dust. Regardless, I would take the 96 or 97 Bulls over the 3-peat Lakers of the 2000s anyday.
I remember this game. It’s cool to hear different commentators...I watched the TNT/TBS broadcast & went Jordan & Pippen went to calm Rodman they were laughing.
the difference between rodman and shaq is that, shaq is only using his large body to gain advantage over the others. while rodman is fckng brave and will not go down with out a fight, no matter who you are, he will fight you inside the court.
shaq is only good because he's big. rodman is good because he's good.
+green house is shaq still good then?
Shaq would have thrown his clown ass
+Makaveli The Don the same guy who try cheapshot Rodman while he was distracted.. yeah...
Shaq is only good because he's big? You must have never seen him play. Shaq was arguably he most dominant PLAYER ever. With his size, he can run the floor, he had speed, the IQ, the moves, and the power. He was relentless on he offensive end and you had to double team him almost every time he had the ball. Again, Shaq was arguably the most dominant PLAYER of all time. The only problem was his FT shooting.
UA-cam User HE'S DOMINANT BECAUSE HE'S BIG. CENTERS AND POWERFORWARDS UNDERSTANDS THIS. do you play? even his coach uses it as an advantage. he's no more different than yao ming.
A lot of Shaq fans are whining that the Bulls were doubling and tripling Shaq in the 2nd half, so Rodman didn't really shut him down. The only reason the doubles and triples were effective in the first place is because Rodman prevented Shaq from getting deep position and made him take way too long to post up.
You'll notice on the first 2 plays that Shaq scored on Wennington, Jordan tried doubling on Shaq, but with Wennington on him, Shaq had an easy time getting deep position, backing him down and taking a quick shot before the doubles could do anything. Even with the help defense, it's accurate to say Rodman was the main reason Shaq got shut down because his initial defense was the only reason the doubles and triples had enough time to make Shaq a passer. If it was Wennington guarding him the whole second half, Shaq would have kept backing him down before the double teams could do anything.
Nobody Touches Jordan quit whining.....its called home cooking. bullsheet colored glasses

Stupid announcer. Rodman should not take the bait under the circumstances, but consider that first he eats an elbow to the neck fighting for position--no complaint. Then he grabs the rebound, calls time; the ball is grabbed from him from behind??? No big issue yet, but he is getting hot. Then Scottie grabs him, but Shaq comes over and puts hands on him--for what? Does the announcer say "stupid Shaq?"
the broadcaster is clearly a laker fan.
+JetLife 4 Life Idiot he's a Laker legend, Lakers broadcast team, Kcal 9 channel. Wow where have idiots been. In the U.S. there are multiple media outlets that cover games. This is clearly a Lakers broadcast. Chick Hearn even has a statue outside of Staples Center.

@ 2:33, Rodman holds Shaq's left arm the entire time during the ball being passed to him. In today standard, the NBA players of today would cry nonstop to the referees and to the media. I missed NBA from the 90's. I think it's the best. I'm a little biased because it was my era and growing up watch Michael Jordan is pure awesome.
I certainly agree with you. In my part, it's called full body contact with strategy...
agree i recently watched that 3v3 street basketball world championship and was amazed that they let them play it like in the old days like man used to play. I love this old stile wish basketball was more of mans game today as well.
Tyrone Kuleman true its the millenial trans gender time basketball
Tyrone Kuleman Damn dude! I just enjoyed the NBA in the 90's and you're the one that mentioned about being "glorified", etc. Now you even go so far that there are something "special" happening right now. The hell? Who's glorify now huh? LOL! I'm not making fun of you or anything but you sounded more into the NBA now days than I was being in the 90's dude.
You mean made you interest in watch the NBA in the 80s. The NBA wasn't watch by the world in the 80s, well a small world that is. Only Canada, and part of Western Europe could watch the NBA in the 80s. Other parts of the world can't, maybe because of political reason (China/Soviet/Cuba), poverty (many countries in Southeast Asia/Eastern Europe/South America/Africa) and basketball didn't really catch on (Japan/Korea/Hong Kong) until the 90's where those reasons might free up the interest in watch/play basketball. I came to the U.S in the late 80s and didn't know jack about basketball until I came here, so forget about the NBA. So the 90's open up lots of door to basketball in general and people know more about NBA started in this era. Is it because of MJ? Probably and this walking legend should always be part of the equation. He's that good.
Rodman is a beast, I always loved watching this guy play, pure Heart, he will be missed!

seeing the great Sager on the end is a nice bonus to this excellent upload.
Lebron would die flat against Rodman
gwapsgarcia for sure lebron is lucky.. if he played in the 90s rodman wouldve owned him..
rldabomb7 no
The giant Troll Yes!
but now rules are changed and, game is not same as old way
Yes, Lebron has spent most of his career lowering his shoulder and bulling his way forward. And either getting a blocking foul or getting to the side of the defender and using his hip to create room.
He counts on quick players being afraid to take charges because of how big he is. And big slow players can't cut him off in time.
But Rodman had the quickness to make life a nightmare for Lebron, and he was fearless enough to take the hits.
Rodman was totally fearless he seemed to have extra fire hatred towards O neal. When asked why he hated Shaq he said I dont feel nothing off of him meaning no energy. Thats why Rodman could be so effective he was busy and made Shaq work and have to fight for position.
yo alonzo schooled him ok

Rodman from 1989-1997 was DOMINANT on defense

I love the Lakers and the Bulls back then. I also enjoyed the bad boys of Detroit. It's the reason why I continue to watch basketball now. Rodman was the GOAT in defense in my book. I'll have him on 1st team Defense all day/ every day. Can't knock the man's hustle on Defense.
I remember this match, it was epic ^^ With Rodman it was white or black, sometimes he was shitty but when he was in a good day, he was a huge problem for the other team.
7:15 that one handed choke of MJ could calm down any beast..😂😂😂😂
Rodman also kept him off the glass. So anyone stating the double & triple teams are the reason Shaq didn't score, how many offensive boards did he have? Any chances for garbage buckets? Nope.
but people did not realize that in crucial plays, rodman free throws always counts..ahahha
Rodman had a very bad FT pt in career but in the money time, he often put his Ft such as 96'finals game 2
Despite all his personal eccentricities, you have to respect a guy who created an entire NBA career based on hustle.
so many great memories watching Rodman play. absolute fuckin beast with an unmatched will to win
damn, rodman swished those free throws better than ray allen.. dude was always trying hard to score as less points as possible, lol
The most impressive thing about Rodman is that he covered Jordan or Pippen early in his career as well as Bird and Magic, He focused on his strength and began covering power forwards and centers.
Dennis Rodman is so entertaining. His passion and enthusiasm were unmatched.
6:34 Jordan just pulling Dennis, like a big brother. 6:16 Jordan actually had his hands on Rodman's throat to stop Rodman. Freak man, Jordan was tough on his teammate. Getting Rodman in line, protecting him from being thrown out.
That’s what teammates are supposed to do. Protect each other from making dumb mistakes.
He had just been suspended & Jordan was basically the coach so he had to keep him in check
lol the commentator really hated rodman
It's an LA broadcaster, look at the logo of the station. Rodman raped them out of victory so you can expect them hating him for that.
that's chick hearn commentating legend
Yep! Haha
when Rodman was one of the few guys with tattoos...the good ole' days !
Rodman would disrupt the.post position on Shaq. He would deny him the top of the box and forced him to start his scoring move far away from the basket. easier said than done but Rodman had the leg strength and the low center. to be able to defend a freaking giant like O'Neal. incredible.
lmfao at 7:07 Jordan grabs Rodman by the neck!
Rodman was a strong player. Shaq couldn't move him when trying to get close to the rim.
El Joelo well he would get double team every time he would try
Angel Sanchez You didn’t watch the video
Hokage Itachi Uchiha are you dumb? Like look back at it every time he would try they would try and steal the ball you metal dumbass
Angel Sanchez If you watched the video, you could clearly see that Rodman prevented Shaq from backing him down and gaining a deep position, which caused those turnovers, and made Shaq take jumpers.
@@AngelSanchez-or5re you must have watched a different video than I just did.
One of my favorite players all-time.
LOL shaq said he would destroy bulls, but he was struggling and schooled by grandpa rodman
They double him soon as he got the ball or when he try to make his move they brought a late double team it's good coaching by Phil Jackson one of the greatest Coaches of all-time
When the biggest ovation of the night is someone making two free throws you know it’s crazy.
Lol " that stupid Rodman " 😂
UA-cam Ads lol. From one troll to another
UA-cam Ads lmao I spit my cereal out of my mouth when he said that.
