The real irony is that Albert could play his horn like any of his heroes: Charlie Parker, Coletrane, etc., though he chose to follow his own direction. He used to say: "They[other musicians]think it's about notes. . . they think it is about THEM! It's about the music!"
I find this utterly charming . And funny. Lighten up, you jazz scribes and pharisees. In the forties , rough, raunchy r+b was Jazz's mischievous cousin. All in the family ,though. This is real 'jazz-rock ',not that polished smartarse stuff jazzers with hastily grown long hair ,looking like undercover cops at a rock festival, started churning out around the 70's .
Some negative comments about the drummer. Really? That's Bernard Purdy in fact. As Albert Ayler's last bass player I really appreciate that Albert got back to his free jazz and funky roots for the Maeght Foundation concerts we played in France, which were not commercial at all. I hope the movie of it is released one day soon.
I saw the film at the Foundation in summer 1971. A must for all Ayler fans and for all people who believe in his message. let's hope it will be released ... but after nearly 48 years ???
Mr. Tintweiss God bless you. Thank you for your dedication and sounds with Mr. Ayler. I hope too they release the full footage of that show. There is only a few moments of it in the recent documentary and wow it is amazing (or is that a different performance?) God bless!
i think there is a certain kind of person who has put ayler in a box, and if he comes out of it and does something different their natural inclination is to dislike it... instead of seeing what enjoyment they could get out of it.
In how many ways would the world be different if Albert had been picked up by Tamla Mowtown .. JAZZ would be different R&B AND ROCK AND ROLL AND POP would ALL be totally different ! ! ! Nothing would be the same __ that's how important Uncle Albert really is thanks for the upload / ive heard plenty of Albert But not this / thanks so much
Some people might not like it because, it may be to commercial for their liking. It has been said that Albert was way to "out" for some, and those people clamored for him to produce music that was more aesthetically acceptable. Well, when he did get around to doing that (material such as the stuff heard on this upload), people started to clamor that he had gone too commercial!
It's a free world and people can say and like whatever they want, I'm all for that, if you don't like a piece of music that's cool and it's your right, it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing, that said i think anyone disagreeing with my taste should be shot.
this may be the first ever recording of improvised rap lol. If it's albert singing/rapping hes taking it outside ! love it. haha this is a very light & funny recording my favorite line is if "woman can give life, she surely can give death"
Christ this song is so bad.. The lyric is kinda cheesy and feels forced, Ayler seems lost the whole time he is singing, the form is all over the place, the background singers come in arbitrarily, the sax solo makes no sense, the ending is out of nowhere.. I fucking love it =) Ayler makes the best bad music I've ever heard "Thank God for Albert Ayler"
Albert was a good friend - I spent one night with him in 1964 listening to Arab musics.

I love how Albert seems breathless throughout the whole track, almost as if he was dancing along with the tune.

I hope the same. Please don't read the comments.
stevetintweiss You did a splendid job there on the bass.I want to see the film of the concert if any footage still survives!
All respects, I prefer Sonny Murray, a brilliant drummer. I agree that Purdy handles this very well. It's just hard to keep up with Ayler.

This is hip hop before hip hop.
A beautiful chaos that sounds like it was done in one take. Love it!
This is one of our femme fam's favorite AA tracks. I hear you, brother. They weren't ready. 💯✊
I love this tune, personally.
Awesome.
"If it wasn't for a woman, we-you-we-wouldn't be here today." -Albert Ayler

It kind of makes me think about Zappa's "Freak Out" album, they seem to make fun of a certain branch of simpletons popular music, joyful !

wow !!!!!
Frippe was seriously bummed out by these sessions. He said this is what killed Albert.

Great "Chops".
Une musique brute ,totale ,en tout cas très en avance sur son temps ... ( From France ) .
Who is the vocalist? Is that Ayler? Extraudinary. The most brilliant composition I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!
I think its Mary Maria Parks, his partner ( wife?)

Ouch, this was hard to listen to. Albert certainly wasn't a good singer.
This is literally the worst song that Ayler ever made and we have his wife to thank for it and her crappy singing.
pd3000 yeah,Mary Parks (Mary Maria) who was using Albert for a meal ticket! Fuck her shitty singing, and fuck her farty lyrics for her fucked up songs!
aaaaahhh das is so geil!!
