      Also, you bring something back that you paid Cash or Credit Card, and you are given a Card as a Credit towards another purchase. Well, you still are out the Cash or Credit Card Bill. Used to get refund towards the Credit Card. Solution, never go back because you forget the stupid Credit and eventually it gets misplaced or you never use it, which is what they hope. It was such a pain doing business with Cabela. Bass Pro used to be great.

    I used to be willing to spend more money for Cabela's Branded products, because they really were a step above what you could get anywhere else. In fact, 2024, I have several old shirts with Cabela's labels that are tough as nails, and will probably last another 15 years. Unfortunately, Bass Pro branded products, whatever their brand is, just feel like cheap Walmart items.

    I used to be a hardcore firearm enthusiast. In the mid 2000's
    I infiltrated my way to firearms specialist/inventory at a cabelas store. Spent a lot of time looking at inventory from all the stores. Then i could do store to stire transfers with the cliick of the mouse. I spent much more money there than i made and after 3 years of buying guns i retired from there.
    I remember the morning meetings before the doors were opened where the store manager always told us that there isnt nothing in the store that people needed to get by but came in to spend money on what they wanted with extra spending money. The same holds true today but most folks dont have much money left over at the end of the month due to the high inflation we have today. I knew when Cabelas sold to Bass Pro it wasnt going to be a good thing for the consumer.

    Bass Pro opened a new location a few miles from me earlier this year. As before, BPS will continue get my business on smaller, hard-to-find items. That being said, I chose to purchase major items from the local sporting good stores and mom & pops who have been serving my community for years. The same outlets that have, over the decades, steered me in the right direction on so many aspects of my region's hunting and fishing . Quite honestly, the BPS sales personnel, for the most part, have no clue.

    • @kmbbmj5857
      @kmbbmj5857 Місяць тому +2

      You still have local mom & pop sporting goods stores? Haven't seen one of those in years. Last time I was in one, about 15 years ago, I was looking for some tackle trays. The owner told me to go to Walmart because he couldn't afford to stock them; Walmart retailed them for less than what he had to pay to stock them.

    • @weirdshibainu
      @weirdshibainu Місяць тому +1

      I felt the same way...until COVID, then my local mom and pop stores resorted to legit price gouging and got arrogant. They were marking up pistols 30% over the MSRP and then raised their out of state transfer fees to $150. Never went back.

      Bass pro will get more of my business now. Due to its owner being in my opinion a respectable and honorable man. Like you I support local business first and know that builds strong communities. I've watched the progression of Bass Pro and many of his other endeavors. I know the challenges of hiring good help and training. Mr Morris has passion for many of things we all do ,the outdoors, the pursuit of improving at the sports we choose. As the current economy challenges all of us I intend to smartly purchase all I need if possible from BASS PRO.

    I’ve worked for a different “major retailer” for almost 20 years. A talking point that a store manager said when the company was cutting scheduled hours was that payroll was the largest controllable expense for any business. The hard reality is that the overall workload doesn’t decrease. My bet is that the condition of these stores will not look as nice and neat if layoffs happen at the store level.

    • @JohnOBryan
      @JohnOBryan Місяць тому

    Bass Pro Shops has mismanaged their buyout of Cabelas. For example, Bass Pro killed off all the reasonably priced Cabela's clothing, and replaced it with more expensive Red Head clothing in the flagship Cabela's store in Kansas City, Kansas. Most of the space inside freed up now has boats. When I go to Cabela's, I don't want boats. I want hunting and fishing equipment. Bass Pro is desperate to sell their expensive boats. That particular store was packed with people every time I visited it until after Bass Pro bought Cabela's. You don't see it packed, even between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It has become a ghost ship. The final insult was when Cabela's was removed from building and replaced with Bass Pro. I get that, Bass Pro owns it and they can do what they want with it. It was a place I needed to stop by whenever I went to Kansas City. Now, when I think of it, I go meh.

    I dont miss going to these stores. Especially after BPS took over. You can't take 5 steps without someone asking you if you want a credit card, or someone trying to hustle vacations like time shares. Then some of the workers try to tell you what you really need.....Thats when I channel my inner Ron Swanson and say "I know more than you" as I walk away and they're still yapping.

    Everything is expensive these days. BPS & Cabela's are no exception. However, they have been overpriced even prior to the effects of inflation kicking in. Boats especially are ridiculous. Even fishing lures are so stupid expensive. All this is taking the fun out of what we love. Boating, fishing, hunting, camping, etc. cost way too much. I've gone to a minimalist approach, no more expensive boats and equipment. I don't want to see anyone lose their job but BPS/Cabela's need to wake up and stop over-charging consumers.

    I think one of the biggest problems is the pandemic got everyone outside and buying recreational equipment like mountain bikes, boats and guns. So when inventory got short it also got expensive and industries started flooding the stores to cash in just before the costumer base started to thin and now they are stuck with inventory it will take years to sell.

    While usually your thought on boat pricing is correct, we had an opposite experience. We bought an offshore center console for 120k right before covid hit. not quite 2 years later, we sold it for $40K more than we paid for it, due to demand, supply and rising costs of new boats! We used that to order a slightly bigger and much nicer boat that we are currently enjoying running charters and making videos and it's paying for itself and then some that way. Before anyone thinks that you can actually make money charter fishing...No, you really can't. Not with a new boat anyway. The best you'll do after all of the costs is slightly better than break even and get to fish on a better boat! (and work a LOT!) As our existing boat is being paid down and new boats continue to rise, we think we'll sell this one an a couple more years and upgrade one more time to a USED more custom boat that can take the wear we are putting on it, and keep basically forever. (you think production boats are expensive, look at the custom ones that last!) We do 300-400 hours per year on our boat. BTW. Most people should NEVER buy a boat! For the money they spend yearly, they could go on all the charters they want and be money ahead with no work! Boats are mostly for people who can't do math. 🙂

      Tennessee passed a law recently making it illegal to spray their sky’s this year 2024.
      People need to spread this so it wakes all people up to the truth a s’more or all states do the same. The spray also causes way more amplified fires we found out. It makes the levels not fall off when dead and also makes the tree tops burn along with the base layer and so it’s a double burn and also it’s a combustible and so they say now fires spread fast all Dorris d not just the way the wind burns. Old time forest fire workers have noticed all this and tried spreading the world because they never saw fires act this way in thief past lifetime forestry work.

    You left out some key points. First is lack of competition in many areas. Tracker Marine Group owns most of the major brands of fishing boats -- Tracker, Ranger, Triton, Nitro, etc. The remaining brands like Phoenix are very expensive high-end boats. There simply aren't a lot of reasonably priced boats left. It's not just a marketing model; it's an entire industry based on selling a very high-end product to a limited market. Without entry products you don't get new buyers into the market who can eventually buy your high-end product. And, then there's quality. Which Tracker isn't known for.

Housing prices and rents are outrageous and extra items like boats, campers, Rvs and such are being deferred. I have been pricing Aluminum Fishing boats and Trackers are still some of the lowest priced. But when a truck or four wheeler to tow it can easily set the working man back 60 Gs a boat may get put off. The middle class is getting squeezed.
