This is what I call the perfect tutorial for 1st time owners of an R8 camera - thank you so much - I could follow along and it taught me everything I needed to know up to this point!!
Glad to have found this video.. I bought the R8 and am already enjoying it,, but it's also the first camera I've put my hands on since the Rebel xt years ago.. so many 'things' now.
thank you :) i have recently upgraded from my old nikon d5000 to canon r8 and this is helping me figure out all the controls. especially understanding all the focus settings and how to customize them - i was struggling to get it how i liked, but this is going to help me experiment and set it up to my liking
Hi Michael, I've been doing photography for couple of years now using my Canon 25mk4 and I just realised I missed a lot of informations of using the camera after after watching this whole video. I knew were talking EOS R8 here but the fundamental functions are very similar. The explanations and illustrations were very in details wherein average persons can grasp with it. I am very thankful that I found this tutorial and keep the good work and please keep sharing your knowledge and skills in photography. By the way my EOS R8 is due for delivery next week.... all the best Michael :)
Hello Michael. This was an extremely helpful video! I just switched from my old 450D to the R8, and that is a BIG difference. I found your tutorial and it really helped me out a lot. And yes sir... I am interested in the crash course video! Thanks again for sharing your wisdom! Regards Michael
Great video. Canon should pay you and include this video to all new buyers! I'm familiar with canon cameras in general from years with my 7D MkII and I've become interested in upgrading to either the Canon R6, R6 MkII, or R8, but I wanted to see how the controls would work with a non-joystick and no rear rotating dial body. It has been a very long time since I used a canon body without a joystick or rear rotating dial and I love them. I'm a little hesitant to change my muscle memory and work flow, but it looks like the adjustments are pretty easy without them on the R8.
A camera's diopter isn't used for users with correct vision. It's used so that you do not NEED corrected vision. You can remove your eyeglasses or contacts and still the focused subject. The "trick" to using a diopter is to auto focus the camera on something "easy." The image will not be in focus *for the camera.* And then move the diopter adjustment until the image is in focus *for you.*
Awesome! First video to show that the d pad can be set to move the af points. I've asked in the comments in so many reviews and got zero replies. Great work and thanks!
your DVD on Advanced Photography Techniques is beside me bro . Great instruction . You also gave me a digital version of this . I use my video editor and convert it to MP4 file because every time I use this version a message appears . The file is on my laptop, the physical edition on the shelf . Be rest assured your lessons are not shared because there are other lessons out there that are better .
Thank you! I just recently switched from Nikon to this CanonR8 and there was a lot to learn. I have rewatched and gone back to certain sections of this video. I would really be interested in a crash course as I'm trying to get out in the field and take imagery of upland hunting dogs, waterfowl, upland birds, etc. and would love to learn more about optimizing settings and techniques for fast-paced shooting as well as calm, picturesque landscapes and scenery.
Why you switched? I am asking because I am consider to choose Nikon as they have really great Z-mount lenses offer with good relation price to performance.
Sir, I am Dying to see your shootout videos where you compare 2 different cameras.. those shootout videos are awesome its such informative.. please Sir continue with latest mirrorless camera shootout videos..
Did you do the R8 crash course? I’ve watched this tutorial 2x. I am already an advanced photographer, meaning I understand cameras, lighting, the exposure triangle, composition and basic editing. I had been shooting photos on 2 canon EOS-M5 with adapted EF lenses - great little cameras. I have recently upgraded to an R8 and I would like to know the ins and outs of this body and learn what I don’t know about this camera.
This is so helpful! I felt so lost trying to navigate this camera coming from a 6d. You've unlocked some super cool features for me and you explain things very well! Thank you for this very informative video! 🤩👏🏻
I've watched all the super detailed videos you've created for Canon, Sony, and Fuji cameras. Has the time come for the...Panasonic s5ii or am I asking too much??
The focus guide currently will not work with my Contax Zeiss lenses. Since the R8 thinks there is no lens, it turns ot off. Focus peaking works great. The magnify button is great for nailing focus in the EVF.
Good info that fills in some details missed by the other two how-to vids I watched. One crit: with the light background, the dark camera details you're trying to show are sometimes underexposed, especially when the subject is not filling the whole frame, due to the bright background. Placing a light background behind you may help provide some needed fill light.
Hi Gary - Im not seeing what you are describing. At what point in the video is the camera under exposed? Its possible its a monitor problem on your end. Thanks!
@@michaelandrew5209 Well, I was watching on my phone, with dirty reading glasses and a glare from the window. My 74-year-old eyes do have difficulty adjusting to bright headlights enough to see a dark road, and indeed, when I shield the bright background on either side of the camera with my hands, I can make out the details of the camera a little better. I have now reviewed your video at night on both my monitor full screen as well as on the phone, and, for example, at about 5:06, when you show how to insert the battery, it's hard to even recognize what part of the camera is shown because it's all deep shadow. At 12:15, showing the gasket labels and pins are also hard to see. In general, compared with the other how-to videos, most seem to use a much darker background. Nevertheless, the information was very helpful. Thank You for putting it together,
Question with the R8, is there a set a physical button to re-center your focus point without using the screen icon? On the RP I use the Trash button. But on the R8 I don't seem to be able to program the trash button or the re-center feature.
38:46 does the anti-flicker only work in a mechanical shutter? does the eos r8 have an automatic anti-flicker in the electronic shutter? For example, in eos r5, r6 only works in a mechanical gate..
At 1:14:55 why doesn't the green box stays on the focusing area after re-composing? I've playing with different modes like the SCN portrait mode. I thought i wasn't getting focusing after re-composing. So using this mode the AF detect the eyes but i need to move the square to the focusing eyes then halfpress until it turns a green box to lock and then re-compose... thanks for the video...
25:52 I don't have a black quick screen in any of the creative modes such as manual. I wonder if I disabled it. Any idea how to get it back? I've downloaded the manual, and Canon doesn't seem to give that screen a particular name.
Mike!!! Can you please do a review of Pratik Naik’s pro masters retouching course I cant find a review anywhere outside of his website! I dont want to waste $200!!!
Super quick question if you get a chance - I have the AF-ON button set up for back button focus so should I probably not set up the "star" button for eye focus (since I can't press both at the same time) or is the "star" button pretty much now my back button focus for portraits? As always - massive thanks.
@@MMaven thats soo sad, those were industry leading videos, best of the best ,all my purchases were based on those videos. Hope u get enough interest and returns and start making those soon
@@junedkaka I appreciate that. The problem is much more complex. I could hypothetically get those views if I got the camera early like other UA-camrs, but because I do not participate in collaborative reviews with these camera companies my reviews are always late as I have to purchase them on my own. Because they are late, less views. Less views, doesn’t make sense to invest thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours into them. Camera companies have cleverly learned how to flood UA-cam with many very early (day of announcement) & mostly positive reviews by going this route. It’s basically impossible for me to compete with them
