Thank you so much for this video! I went from a 90D to the R6 Mk-II. Easy to follow and understand. Great intro to my first mirrorless.
Just picked up the R6 Mk-II & this is hands down the BEST tutorial ever. Thanks for taking the time and effort for putting this together. Just awesome..!!!! Thank you!
This is by far the best tutorial for this camera for a beginner. I have been trading Sony, Canon, and Nikon for months and finally settled on this Canon R6 Mark II. I gave it to myself for Christmas and have been watching videos waiting for it to arrive. Your video is not just a run through the instruction manual, but a thorough look at the what's, why's, and how's ... including "what I would do if I were you." The recommendation for shooting in Av mode is a game changer. Thank you, and I'll see you in the crash course.
Definitely had an eye-opener. This canon has so much more then I realize. I've learned so much watching your 2-hour video. Hopefully this will help me with my photography. Thank you
The best tutorial, your teaching style is excellent. I did most of your customizations because they just make sense--I also made myself a cheat card until I have them all memorized... Thanks for your work--I look forward to the next class and now I look even MORE forward to giving the R62 a workout.
I am an enthusiast and have the R6 Mark II on backorder no idea when I am going to get it. This is an excellent video and your explanations are clear and concise. I have saved this to review when needed, which will be quite often. Thank you for such a great job!
Great video - exactly what I needed after getting my R6 Mk II this week. I learnt so much, but so much information there I will have to watch again. Thank you.
I just got a R6 mk II and this is super useful. This is so comprehensive. Thanks so much for spending the time to create this video. 🙏🏼
Great Video. Very informative. I have learned so much more than from reading the manual. Looking forward to part 2 and the crash course.
I’ve had my R6 for over a year. Your video has motivated me to learn and play with confidence
Michael, I went through so many videos about the Canon R6 Mkll auto focus system and your is the most comprehensive and educational one. I will refer to it until I have nailed the focus on this camera! Thank you!
Thank you again Michael!! Another excellent teaching video on understanding my camera!! SPOT ON!!
Michael, You are absolutely a very thorough, detailed, and well versed instructor. I thank God for your channel and all the valuable information you have provided on the Canon R6 Mark II. These videos will be my go to in the days ahead as I familiarize myself with this new system and menu. Thanks!!!
Hi Michael - I started learning photography about 10 years ago with your Crash Course video on Rebel T5i. You have a great teaching style and your lessons are easy to follow. My R6 Mark II is arriving next week and I'm looking forward to seeing your Crash Course on it along with more advanced photography videos. Thanks you for coming back.
Hi Pooya! We just launched the R6ii crash course this morning: www.canontrainingvideo.com/downloads-c-7_12/canon-r6ii-crash-course-tutorial-training-video-p-184.html
Hi Michael, I got my R6 a few days ago and detected your tutorial by chance. Though I am not a complete beginner I found this video very helpful - especially customizing! Thank you a lot.
This has been absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. I plan to revisit a few sections because there's so much to know! Definitely interested in your crash course.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It was so helpful and there were few setting I struggled with and you answered them. And you did not rush between the pages and the different options. It was easy to follow. You made it less complicated. Thank you so much. God bless you!
I just traded in my EOS R for the R6 Mark ii and spent a week or more ploughing through the 1074 page manual (this is insane), making notes and reprogramming the top-right buttons for my three primary Use Cases. However, I now realize I would have saved a lot of effort if I had known about your tutorial. Moreover, you mentioned several things I had missed when reading the manual (maybe I had nodded off?), such as the ability to use to change the size of the AF area. Thus, I think you have made a remarkable job! Thanks.
Peen shooting on and off for fun for the last few years but shot an airshow with a borrowed lens a few weeks ago. Decided to get more serious about shooting and just picked up a R6mk2. This helped so much with knowledge of the camera and shooting in general. Thanks a ton!
I Just purchased a Canon R6 MKII and figured let me see whats the difference from my 80D
I have been shooting Photography and Videography constantly for the past 10 years. Of course when you start, the experienced photographers tell you, you need to learn ti shoot manual. I mastered manual mode but I NEVER learned or even understood the Av Tv or P modes. I totally avoided them. I STRUGGLED during weddings as you can imagine. Now thanks to this video I understand all the modes and now finally understand One Shot vs Servo and honestly many other things I ignored. THANK YOU!
Fantastic! I just got one of these for Christmas and am moving from Nikon so needed help. You are an excellent communicator, and these taught me all I needed to know to work with the new camera. Your back button focus setup by customizing the shutter button was one thing I could not find anywhere, and turns out to be quite simple. Thank You.
Thank you for the info. Much appreciated. I must point out though, not every one shoots raw or crops later so the 1.6 x crop mode is awesome for many sports shooters. I mostly shoot field sports where we use jpg and print onsite at the events. There is no RAW and no editing. I choose my 7D ii over my 1DX ii currently purely for the reach on my 400mm lens. When I get my R6 ii it becomes both cameras in one and that's pure gold to me. When I shoot indoors, say Gymnastics, in lowish lighting, then full frame mode gives me some of the best IQ possible, but when I need the reach for field sports 1.6 x crop mode will help.. Its a win win :)
Thanks Michael! can't wait for the part 2!
Just bought this camera a month ago and this tutorial is the best I've seen. You definitely have a gift for teaching. I've watched it 4 times, and each time I learn something else. Thank you! Ready for part 2.
I just got mine a month ago also coming from a 5D mk1 and this camera is like going from a mini van to a space shuttle - wow. I wish I saw this video sooner. Pushing in on the joy stick and re-centering the focus was huge. I was doing this manually and getting upset. lol
Was there ever a part 2? A settings guide (at least a "settings opinion" and reasoning) would be interesting.
excellent tutorial. THANK YOU
Thank you for this. Really helpful!!!
Thanks for doing this. I saved the R6 guide for 2years. Always good to refer to.
Splendid!!! Worthy of another look.....
Very helpful. Thank you so much.
Thanks I just bought the R6 II and learned a lot.
Excellent work, Michael! Thanks!!
Thank you so much for the tutorial!
This is a wonderful video!!! Thank you!!!!
I am a newbie and bought this camera. What a video. Like you said there is no substitute for hands on learning and along with this video I am much more comfy although I will probably never use most of the settings. But I will experiment. Very well put together video.
Tanks al lot I was learn more than another youtube chanel 🙏
I left a comment on the link asking for the crash course. This is very helpful. I have some experience with the R6 II and have learned a lot in the first half hour of this video.
Michael you are the best ! Tank you !
Thanks for this Michael.
Happy New Year, Michael.
Great Video Michael
Thank you Michael. In the space of two hours, I have evolved from a clueless newbie to a well informed aspiring photographer with this amazing R6ii. You have no idea how this video of yours have changed my perspective of being overwhelmed with the advancement of digital camera that a mere mortal can sensibly understand and work on. You have a great day ahead there. Cheers
Thanks for this video. I have owned a Canon T7i crop sensor camera for 5 years now and am ready to move up to a full frame camera. I want to go mirrorless and stay with Canon as I don't want to have to start from scratch learning a different manufacturer's software. I am not a professional but consider myself an advanced enthusiast. The R6mkII fits exactly in Canon's hierarchy of mirrorless cameras where I think I need to be.
very detailed and helpful
looking forward to the crash course, have been checking your site weekly for months
Hi Bry! R6ii Crash Course just went live this morning: www.canontrainingvideo.com/downloads-c-7_12/canon-r6ii-crash-course-tutorial-training-video-p-184.html
Super helpful! Thank you.
this is an excellent content!
Awesome tutorial....You got One New Subs
Thanks for this great information video
thanks help me a lot good video
Thank you Michael!
Thank you for all the work put into this - it’s been very helpful as I navigate this new hobby - will you still be doing part 2 in the future - so many opinions out there but after part 1 I really value your help -
First time R system ❤️ Canon.
Just about required viewing for anyone, regardless of expertise, to get an overview of what the interface in this camera is about. I come from Fuji and Nikon - this is my first Canon; however, whether you are a beginner or a pro this is a wonderful introduction to this optical computer called a camera.
I shot with this for 3 days and it has a dog of a time. I see videos review persons effectively using eye tracking all the time, but i just couldn't get it to work. I''ll definitely be checking this video out asap
Im here from the 90d video from a few years ago. Just prepping for my new cam!!!!!
Exzellent! 👍
thank you
Thanks
Dear Michael, your work is fantastic. Has helped many. Really appreciate your efforts.
I need your help with customizing the buttons. For me the Cluster button customization is not working if I set as per your demonstration to ONE SHOTSERVO. If I set to any other settings, it's working. Kindly advice. Thanks.
👏👏 informative video
Was hoping to get more details on the self timetable continuous mode. How many frames does it take per second? Also are the custom mode now applicable to video settings?
Thanks for the great video. I would like to be able to use the focus stack without having to select the front focus position each time. I have a small irregular item on a turntable and I want to set the focus in front of the object so with the stack, it focuses right through and out the other side. I have about 250 photos to take so not having to select and check the front focus position every time will help my workflow. Also is there an easy way to delete all the images apart from the focus stack result automatically? To do it manually isn't too bad because it auto-keeps the processed image when you select and delete one from the stack, but again, I just want to remove an operation. It's for photogrammetry.
Thank you! When do you find the time to get this stuff done, lol.
tremendous
Thanks for the great video!! Is part-2 out yet?
I look forward to the crash course
Hi volk! We just launched the R6ii crash course this morning: www.canontrainingvideo.com/downloads-c-7_12/canon-r6ii-crash-course-tutorial-training-video-p-184.html
Do you have a tutorial that focuses exclusively on autofocus for the Canon R6 Mkii? The autofocus menu is deep and I need to figure out best settings for run and gun type shooting. I am having issues with shooting wide on a gimbal and having stable autofocus as I move around. I've been having issues with the camera searching for focus from time to time as I'm moving around.
Looking forward to the crash course. Hopefully it will cover focus settings for studio work, portraits, beauty.
Thank you! And yes, it will cover real world shoot for many types of photography including portraits, sports, landscapes, video and more
Hi K! We just launched the R6ii crash course this morning: www.canontrainingvideo.com/downloads-c-7_12/canon-r6ii-crash-course-tutorial-training-video-p-184.html
Great video, very helpful. Was a Part 2 ever released for Canon R6 Mark ii?
Well explained! Laszlo Montreal
Thank you this is really a great video !!!!!! getting our R6 Mark II next week !!! a Question dose this camera need any software Update?
I'm having issues with my R6II (and my R6 before that) in servo mode. It's continuously jumping and photos shot in a burst will go out of photos, back in and then out again continuously. Canon suggested not using servo for still subjects but I'm convinced it's an issue with the servo AF system.
Hello. Could you upload a Nikon Z7ii Tutorial please
This tutorial was great! Did part two ever get released?
What is the hydrogen-alpha light sensitivity for this camera for Astro photography?
Hi can we find out when part 2 is available and thank you so much for such a brilliant part 1. Purchased the camera in December. Great camera
Part 2 (The Menu System) and Part 3 (Real World Shooting) are all on the crash course we just launched today: www.canontrainingvideo.com/downloads-c-7_12/canon-r6ii-crash-course-tutorial-training-video-p-184.html
Hey, can u make a tutorial for Video settings for beginners? Thanks
Definitely hoping for the crash course! I left my name and email on your blog post. Particularly interested in advice for shooting sports photography of my kids using EF lenses with control ring - whether the sports setting is best with all of the new autofocus tech or manual. Thanks!
Hi Shannon! We just launched the R6ii crash course this morning: www.canontrainingvideo.com/downloads-c-7_12/canon-r6ii-crash-course-tutorial-training-video-p-184.html
when i change iso, the info appears big and in the way on the screen. Is there a way to not have it pop up like that?
Can the control ring on the RF lenses be assigned as an aperture ring? Is an RF lense the kit lense for the 6ii?
New to the R6 had one less than a week. Using Servo focus usually on a blank wall - focus points usually Expand area or Expand are around, occasionally I get other thinner lines around the focus points - similar to those in the flexible Zones, can you tell me why please.
Great tutorials.....
Mike, I am a beginner. I have a Canon RP and been doing my best to learn how to use it. I am thinking of trading it in for a R6. If I am going to know my camera I would just get the R6. Do you think the R6 is to much for me to handle?
I set my camera to Raw, now if I will set to Av priority, can I still achieve Raw photo? Please advise, thanks
How long has this camera been out? I know the original R6 has been out for some time.
How does this camera compare to the Nikon Z7 Mark 2?
Fingers crossed for part 2 😊
Part 2 - the menu system has been published with the Crash Course this last week. Thank you
can the usb-c port be used to connect to an external ssd?
There is an icon I don't understand completely and couldn't find it anywhere. It makes my R6 Mark ii crop in on video mode. And it's not electric stabilizer. Do you mind helping me ?
It's like a frame with a person inside followed by the mm of the lens.
Is this a good camera if you want to take pictures of dogs and birds?
Hello everyone!!
Tell me, pliz...maybe someone has encountered ...
Wi-Fi 5GHz support is certified, but he does not see the home router network at 5GHz..."two" sees, "five" - no. Maybe he doesn't see all the channels? I.e. he doesn't display the network name. Or what am I doing wrong...)
I tried to enter the SSID manually...he says there is no such thing... Changed the Wi-Fi channels 5GHz...it doesn't help...I tried seven different options. Other devices at home "see" the 5GHz network, R6m2 does not. :(((
Brilliant as usual. Have you heard of any firmware updates on the R6Mk2 yet?
Wonderfully clear, thank you Michael for taking the time to make this video. Has anyone figured out how to shoot tethered with the EOS R6 Mark 2? Every program I check, like Capture one, On1, Lightroom, and Smart Shooter, doesn't have this camera on their list of supported cameras yet. I tried On1 myself today, but the tether function in the program says "camera not supported." It's not easy to find Canon's own software list of supported devices, but a couple months ago I found it and they didn't support this camera either! Does anyone know when Canon will give these programs the necessary support to see this camera? Thanks, I will appreciate any information.
Well, Canon Camera Connect now does tethered shooting for this camera, only to IOS. If you go to Canon's site, they make you search for your camera to see if the software sees it, and the R6 Mark 2 doesn't come up. So I put in just EOS R6, and then you get a page with information including what cameras are supported, and the EOS R6 Mark 2 is on that list. So I downloaded it for my iPad. It works.. barely. It takes it a coons age to save each raw photo. And after saving a photo and then switching back to shooting mode, it has me reconnect the camera, which also takes time. So, if anyone has any info on one of the other programs, Like on1 seeing this camera for tethered shooting, I'll be interested. I wrote on1 also about when they expect to support this camera.
Today I found it- Canon does have capture software. It's EOS Utility 3.16.10 for macOS in the software/drivers/manuals for the camera on their site. This is for desktop/laptop and seems fine. Meanwhile, On1 wrote me back, saying he thought it could be a while before Canon releases the software to support tethered capture to other companies. Hopefully not.
Awesome tutorial! I have not figured out why the focus keeps crawling/moving when I press the shutter half way. Even when I pick the focal point. TY!
canon R6 Mark II how to control via ext Touch screen , Feelworld touch is only controlling menu, not Camera menu or other function
by far the best tutorial on the web...clear, concise and to the point! Thank you so very much for this
