He needs to get into another sport. He still is in crazy shape. Maybe he can capitalize on his image somehow. I fear he doesn’t have a huge following so he might not have as many financial opportunities
9.85 after a massive hamstring injury is impossible for most people. It’s the scarring not just physically but mentally. He’s a professional and doing it for the money while he still can. “Big up” Blake!!
He is a true competitor; he doesn't know when enough is enough. I admire him for that, never giving up. But there is no denying that his best days are behind him. Now all he needs to do is find a way to monetize his skills.
That 9.85 from '22 is literally his only sub 9.90s in the last 12yrs! Went a little overboard in the weight room post his terrible injury, thought he'd try to lose some of that bulk over the last 2yrs but unfortunately didn't. Will be a shame if he's not able to at least make the JAM 4x1 Relay Pool.
@@wss33 They rarely are. It's the brutal reality of the sport - one bad hamstring injury and your best is probably behind you, whether you're 23 or 33.
Blake has been retired for some now. He keeps getting those cheques. I can't blame him. He has never been the same after those injuries. He has to know when it's the end for him. He was great in his time but sadly he couldn't get past Bolt. Wishing him the best of luck as he seems to be a great guy. As he gives back to the community and is willing to help. Respect

Well he did say he was going to retire unfortunately. Everybody should know by know he’s lucky to even be walking hence y he’s working so hard to come back. That hamstring injury was literally off the bone he was almost crippled
Credit to him for being a fighter . Lot of runners have had bad injuries then soon quit. Blake truly loves the sport and had fought his way back, over and over
As much respect as I have for Blake and want to see him excel I can’t see it happening. I hate to say it but I’d be surprised if he made the Olympic team. He has some young, hungry lions in his camp putting in the work. I do hope he finds that extra push and guidance he needs to b back at the top of his game.
He has a storied career. I watched him grow and get better each race. I have nothing bur respect and adoration for him as a world class sprinter. Best wishes to him.
Mid 30's it's hard to recover as quick! I get aches and pains doing nothing lol! He should start coaching instead. Well done Blake you're still a monster.
A few sprinters stand out to me as truly exceptional. Su Bingtian. To run a 9.82 at his age (31), from his ethnic background, with his stocky frame. Simply unbelievable. Justin Gatlin. To have still been running world-leading sub 10 second sprints at 38-39 years old is just outstanding, only Kim Collins exceeds that kind of longevity. We don't even know what his peak years might have looked like given he was banned. The fact he even came back to world class sprinting after the bans is an impressive feat. Yohan Blake. Technically no man has covered 200 meters on a track faster than him, not even prime bolt. If Sprinting was formatted more logically, such as measuring the time from the moment you launch off your starting blocks, he'd be the world record holder in that event. Usain Bolt. I don't have to even explain.
Yohan Blake, may be able to qualify for the 2024 Jamaica Olympic Track and Field Team but no guarantee. The one challenge Yohan Blake is having really is recovery time and training volume. Yohan Blake is a truly amazing athlete and extremely talented one of the best sprinters in the sport of Track and Field for his era of 2008 to 2016 his arguably in the running of top 4 male short sprinters in the world: Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell. Once he is that company, then you talk of Yohan Blake being one of the best male short sprinters in the history of Track and Field. Yohan Blake, now being an elite track and field athlete in the short sprints he has the challenge of recovery time increasing and the need for the training volume to decrease. This is due to a reduction in cell turnover as people age, this gets to a point when he cannot sustain significant training volume to reach the level of athletic performance in the of combination Muscular Endurance, Neuromuscular Firing, Speed of Muscle Contraction, and training of max velocity sprint mechanics needed when performing at his highest levels of sprinting velocity and performance. This leads to an unfortunate reality, that the sport of Track and Field especially in sprinting requires such high levels of performance that sprinters in their mid to late 30's rarely are able to compete on the elite professional due to recurrent overuse injuries such as muscle strains or reduction of performances in season due a needed reduction in training volume overtime with longer progressions for increased recovery time. I have seen it many times with athletes I have coached on the elite level, and it is a challenging space to be in for a Track and Field Coach and Elite Athlete Sprinter in which you want to push as hard and as long as possible, but you don't want to get injured overtime that fine line and balance gets harder to know and manage. So Yohan Blake is an amazing athlete with a superb career that is towards its end, at least for this stage. He can always do masters track and field or see if he wants to try another event possibly that maybe more suitable for him at this stage of his athletic career and development. Wish him all the best and happy to have seen him perform.
Yes, he's capable of running faster times, but the younger guys are faster. He will not make the Jamaican team for Paris. It's time for another legend to say goodbye 👋.
Lost his mojo as soon as he cut his hair, hasnt been the same since. But on a serious note, he's way past his prime but if sprinting gives his life purpose and he's still passionate about it theb who are we to tell him to quit? If he listens and quits what do people suggest he does with his time?
We didnt need a video to tell us his time was up. Been saying it for several years. I think coaching is a way to stay connected to the sport. I strongly believe he has the right to leave on his own terms and time.
Just let him do what he can with this season and if he can't produce something special never mind, Yohan Blake is still arguably the greatest sprinter of all time if you take into account the unique advantage Bolt had with his height and stride length
My personal opinion is he is very likely to be in better shape than his time suggests. Only two years ago he won the Jamaican championships in 9.85, so the injury must be the limiting factor. The question is, which part of his race it is affecting and what is the viability of its complete recovery. That's his body. The rest is up to whether he has the mental resiliance to see it through.
I think if he gets one more sub 10 to end off his career would really end his career on a great note. He’s been going at it for so long and is without question one of the best sprinters to ever live.
Ever since his hamstring ripped off the bone (carrying chunks of bone with it) he has not been the same. Sadly, his body may no longer be able to consistently break 10 seconds...
I was wondering why his times this season were slower than usual. Does anyone know what specific injury he has? I also think he’s a bit too swole to be running as fast as he once did. He is not as slim as when he was younger. He is bulkier and heavier. That must slow him down a bit. Plus he is older and his body is beat up with injuries. His best days are behind him. Great athlete nevertheless. One of the best ever.
Usain bolt retired because they started testing for drugs outside meet and doesn’t want to loose his legacy . That’s a big example what happened to Yohan blake he can’t go back to steroids anymore.

34 isn't old. Look at Shelley-Anne Fraser-Pryce. Dare I say he's just got too much upper body mass and needs to lean out. Make it easier to carry his mass down the track.
It's amazing how much he went downhill after the likes of tyson gay got popped for ped's.... think he's the one who got away with it. His and bolt's "rivalry" is what kept him from getting caught with drugs imo. It put bums on seats and sold tickets. You don't jog a bend and run 19.26! Magic sauce for sure
