I worked for 2 years at a document scanning company years ago and proofreading was all I did 8 hours a day, basically catching errors that were caused by a faulty document scan. As a result, over the years, I find myself catching spelling and grammar errors on TV chyrons and documents. It's a habit I can't break! LOL

Thank you so much for this information! I am a stay at home mom with a love for (and many have said a gift for!) writing and editing. I’ve been looking into freelancing options for some time now, and your video gave me the kick in the pants I needed to just DO IT. I set up a profile on UpWork yesterday and have already begun submitting proposals. I am a published author with a personal website and blog, and am giving that information for the prospective clients to check out when I send proposals - haven’t gotten any takers yet but I am hoping someone will give me a chance so I can begin to build some credibility! I’m not going to give up until someone does 😅😏

I’m actually finishing up the Proofread Anywhere course, I got it while discounted almost a year ago, it gives you great starting tips and practice for getting up skills, building a portfolios and so much. There are two levels of the general course offered and marketing specifics would be accessible within the plus option. I only have the regular currently but I’m sure there are marketing tips and guidance online

@@stateofconsciousness9174 I didn’t have a lot of money at the time even with a discount and the other type is more expensive (both the plus and the transcript one) and I wanted to see what the general course had to offer. I hadn’t stuck with it to completion as of current but it wasn’t a bad starting place. There is a supportive Facebook group but only to an extent. The marketing specifics are for the plus students only unfortunately 🙄 So I guess it depends on which you’d like to commit to. I hope I answered your question 😅

A lot of times what I'll notice is an incorrect duplication of a word, like "and and," where it's clearly not an intentional choice (in the wonderfully weird ways English can be sometimes). Other times, it'll be "his" or "is" when the opposite is what was meant to be written.

I'm an avid fiction reader and I have found a few errors as I've read. It drives me a little crazy when I find them because I want to automatically fix it, not to mention that it can potentially jar the reader out of the fiction world. I would love to spend my day proofreading because it would allow me to do something I already enjoy so much. I grew up with my mom and I called her a walking, talking dictionary because if I didn't know a word, she would be able to help me just as well as Google can these days. Any tips for me as a beginner are welcome, because I am interested in making this my stay at home job. I'm highly antisocial, so it would fit me perfectly.

I always pay attention on details in mu whole life. Sometimes I am in my free time doing that and it is exhaustive. Especially if I go in somewhere I observe the errors during the process (forget the client waiting, mistakes in the dishes and order and many others)😂.

I pick up errors in many things I read often. I sometimes get annoyed especially with the incorrect use of "your " and "you're".

I just found this video and would like advice how to start as a beginner. I’ve used quill so basically have some knowledge in fixing misspelled words but am extremely interested where to go from here 🤓🧐

Even though I am not a native English speaker I find so many mistakes in published documents be they typos, grammar and/or syntax errors. My whole education and career since the age of 12 (I am currently 59) has been in English so, I believe, I am well equipped to do this.
Would this work from Rome, Italy where I currently reside?

Informative, thanks. I am making a career change while keeping a p/t job working with Developmentally disabled adults. I need to be remote to pick up and go at any time. I work around my husbands R/R job . I have always seen errors, pick them out everywhere and read fast. I'm interested in this as a possibility. How do you bid a job ? How hard is it to get work when first starting out?

Yeah, I used to read a lot and I also took an office services class with proofreading lessons so I always catch spelling errors in everything I see. Is copy editor and proofreader the same thing? It seems that you’re using them synonymously, but I thought editing was much more creative than just catching typos or spelling errors.
