Cars on the northeast coast get eaten by the salt they put on the roads in winter; that, and the salt air at that place would doom any autos living there.
(This is just his New England "cottage", doncha' know.)
@@barrykaine6526 Usually in New England the sea air doesn't seem anywhere near as bad in effects as you hear about in Florida, it's the *road salt* that really gets you. (Though I dunno about that jagged RI coastline this way, just the ocean temperature's usually that much lower and offshore breezes dominate, generally. Probably actually being out on the water and parking outside wouldn't be the best. )
@@OllamhDrab At least on the East Coast the prevailing wind is more often going toward the ocean, not toward the land. Best to keep the Rolls or Veyron in the six car garage of course.
Just imagine the privelege it would be to sit in the same room as those two and hear the conversations from two of the greatest car gurus that have ever been born. That would be priceless!

I imagine the speed limitation in the 30’s and 40’s wasn’t the chassis or the engine, it was the tires.
Even if you had a car that could go 100, there were very few paved roads back then, so you're really taking your life in your hands flying down a bumpy gravel road.
Tires and brakes were the limitations. 😬

Loved this piece. The Auburn is absolutely gorgeous. The three vehicles sitting around Seafair's amazing circular driveway looks so perfect. Also, driving along Ocean Drive brings back very fond memories. I owned a house in Newport (Swinburne) for many years and I miss being there. Can't wait for more episodes!

That car is so beautiful. There are some nice cars out there now, but nothing like that, the lines flow.

I like how Jay acts like his own person and even if it doesn't meet The narrative of the episode he's honest about car history and history itself. It's also great to see him driving a car of that caliber dressed like a normal guy

The house was listed for $17.5M and Leno bought it for $13.5M. It has a six car garage.

Donald is the type you don't know if you could trust in real life, unless you KNOW him %100, and have known him for a long time... Where Jay is the type that YOU FEEL Like you've ALWAYS KNOWN HIM!. and it's a given that he is trustworthy no matter what!. If ya know him or not... Donald, maybe trustworthy, maybe not, ya gotta get to know him, Jay?! %100 trustable always!, know him or NOT, %100... He's a car guy first a foremost!! The show is called mansions and motorcars. I came just as much to see the house as the cars. We got to see the cars inside and out, but while I love the stories about the house, I wanted to get a tour of it like we did the cars and we really only got to see the driveway.

The opening of this video is fun and tells the entire story without words. What a great buddy episode. One of my favorite vehicles, so beautiful. And what a dapper brother in fabulous attire, goes well with the auto. All you need is a newsboys cap.

Love these 2 together. I’m a big fan of Newport. It’s a little oddball kind of small town on a beautiful coast with a great history in New England. Close to NYC, Boston, Vermont and a great weeklong stop if travelling through New England. Leno and his wife found a great location to entertain his family .

My husband and I live 40 min from Newport and are frequent visitors. We’ve driven by Seafair dozens of times; but it can’t be seen from the road. It’s set way back from the road closer to the ocean. We acquired a membership to Audrain this past summer. Seen two of their exhibits, so far, and plan to visit the newest one which opened in November. Its an awesome museum. Small; and the staff running it are warm, very knowledgeable, and friendly. It would be awesome to run into Jay; but, unfortunately, he spends most of his time on the West Coast.
If you go up to the gate you can see the house. I've done it on my bike.
The one in downtown Newport with the Vanderbilt collection was beautiful. My in-laws live in New Bedford so when we visit from PA we love to go to Newport.
Jay and Donald are very different people.........but share the love of history and automotive excellence.........always a joy to listen to the conversation and try to feel like you're there.........would've been cool to see some motorcycle riding with either 2 bike's or one with a side car..........

My wife & I live in PA, but have vacationed in Newport for over 35 years. We love the city & all there is to do. Since its opening, I visit the Audrain Museum every trip!! Thanks to the museum, Mr. Leno, Mr. Osbourne, & everyone who makes these videos possible. Seeing both the cars & the sights of Newport is so very enjoyable. The relationship between Jay & Donald and their conversational style in these videos is so entertaining. Please keep up the great work. Now, if I could only bump into Jay on one of my visits!!!
