So as long as you, the maker of the lights, are willing to state that these lights meet the minimum requirements as outlined in federal code.... It's 100% legal!! there is no requirement to put the letters DOT on it. The requirements are actually about the same as they were in the 1960s. do you have to not be too small, you already good there... And they have to be visible from some reasonable distance away that by today's standards would be unreasonably dim so.... You're good there. I really like this. Personally I would've used less leds for regular tail lights and then used more for the brake portion. That way it's easier for cars behind you to know when you're braking. Too small of a brake light can be really hard to notice.
you can add resistors to "dull" the driving lights and with a diode can even use the same string of leds for both brake and driving creating a "high /low intensity" setting

I really like your process. I think a couple of improvements could be made in how this was done though: 1) When forming your lens, perhaps building a vacuum former would be ideal. I've seen some made that use melamine boards, pegboard, a shopvac and silicone to achieve. Then you could get a much closer fit. It could even be worthwhile to consider making a negative template from your original lens for your new lens material so that you get an exact duplicate rather than a slightly oversized one. 2) Instead of using foil tape to secure your light separators, maybe make some posts, secured with epoxy or CA glue for those channels to attach to (via a hole and nut, or some other fastener). This, I think, would be more secure to temperature changes, whereas foil tape, I don't know how well it does. It could be an ideal tape, I'm admittedly ignorant about this product. So this suggestion I assign with an asterisk. 3) The separators don't have as straight of a line as I would like to see personally, so perhaps some c-channel aluminum or even PVC pipe split down the middle? I think this could provide much more uniform and straight lines. Again, I love your process. Very creative and it shall be stored in my brain for potential future projects.

The light flashing on one side of the car as opposed to being on steadily indicates pretty well that it's a turn signal. In America the red turn signal evolved from the days when vehicles had in some cases only one rear light at all. If I recall correctly, it was mounted on the driver's side, so at least in the dark you could tell where the car was related to the road centerline. We're talking the 1930's or so. Looks great, you may want to try polycarbonate / lexan instead of acrylic from a functional standpoint. It's not as clear looking and gets slowly sun damaged, but it It has far better impact resistance and won't shatter. Most factory headlights use polycarbonate or actual glass, if a rock were to hit an acrylic lense hard enough it could crack and shatter into pieces, although it's more likely on a headlight and not a tail light. Polycarbonate can still crack and scratch but it's far stronger than acrylic and is more shatter resistant.

Polycarbonate can still crack and scratch but it's far stronger than acrylic and is more shatter resistant.
to bad its illegal for me to put any LED's on my exterior lol :
Haha thats a bummer
Riff raf cracked me up then followed by it won’t catch on fire instant fire on screen 😂😂
😅 thanks for watching!
Yo that is highly illegal...
I need some!!
I love how it turned out, but I hate how messy the process was:D
Embrace the process 🙏
Not my cup of tea style wise. But cool as hell that you went with something YOU MADE which is way cooler and unique.
You get it 🤙
@@IMEEMADE I caught a ton of flack when I custom built my 3-in stainless '05 STI exhaust. I mean yeah I get that people didn't like that I didn't buy something off the shelf but the fact that I made it it was mine felt so fucking good
The whole way through the video, I was saying out loud what I thought you should do for the next step, and then you did. Lol. I think I WAY underestimate my ability to take on more projects outside of what I normally tackle! Really awesome job. Earned a sub for sure. My brother would get a kick out of this, too.
You should give it a try! You got this
The plastic will be brittle now because you ovened it.
Ruh roh
Huge fan, looks amazing video was interesting
Thanks so much for watching!
I love your job man you are the best
Thanks dude
They look great man! Good on you. Most people (including myself) don't have the courage to do this sort of thing. You have no just a custom part but a completley personal and hand made one. Only you have it and you'll have people asking you where you got them from and will feel amazing to say "Made them myself they're one offs" Keep it up!
Thank you so much!
yes, it's crap, dude, keep it original...
not very peaceful of you to call another man’s hard work crap!
talk about being unprofessionally professional 😎
😎😎 that’s how we do
Making your own tail lights ? That's sick man
Thanks!
