I'm seriously loving this more "casual" Gordon as a result of the quarantine. He and Matilda are absolutely adorable. He also seems to go into a little bit more detail for these quarantine episodes. As he mentioned; people are cooking now more than ever, so it's nice to see him go a bit more in depth as far as technique goes. He's even sacrificing his 10 minute time in order to do so. We all know how competitive this man is. That's no small feat.
I've made this curry twice now, so let me share a few tips with you all: The first time, it took me an HOUR to make. Shredding the squash and onion took so long. Gordon makes it look so easy, but I spent a good 10 - 20 min just shredding the squash. The dough for the bread was incredibly sticky and I had a hard time handling it without using tons of dry flour. I don't ever make bread from scratch, so if you're the same level of expertise, just know you're on the right track. The bread turned out amazing! It goes so well with the curry you can't afford to not make it! The second time it took about 30 min (I used potatoes instead of chicken, so they take longer to cook). I was over the shredding so I threw all the vegetables in a blender. Sort of a bad choice because the curry ends up a little gritty until you cook it out, but I will take this over shredding any day. I was also missing coconut milk (as every store has been out) so I used coconut creamer (could've done without it), yogurt and milk. Worked great. Overall, this curry is freaking amazing. If you're thinking about making it, DO IT. But just keep in mind unless your hands are as fast and as skilled as a chef, it will likely take a lot longer than 10 min. Happy quarantine cooking!
I'm indian, and I see a lot wrong with this. I've never made butternut squas curry so I won't comment on that, but the roti was all wrong. First of all, he should be using atta, whole wheat flour which is fine. Next he should be kneading for far longer to get soft rotis. I use my KitchenAid dough hook and run it for 10 minutes. My mother worked at one of the best indian restaurants in San Diego, and they kneaded for up to 20 minutes per batch.
@@sbc2954 I don't know if he specifically said roti or not. But I don't think Gordon was creating an authentic indian curry, but more of an indian/thai inspired curry. My mom grew up in India and this is not the type of curry we eat at home. But I still was able to enjoy it and the bread.

I kinda like the fact that he fails often; it'll probably be more encouraging to people who just start cooking to know that a 10 minute dinner is a real challenge for a 3 star Michelin chef, dont be upset if yours take 30-60 minutes with prep time :)
@@ErikTk421 the cooking time doesn't change much with the cook but with the stove/pans. the part that takes us amateur more time is measuring, chopping, etc, most of which aren't included in the 10 min...
I don’t care that it was more than 10 minutes. Your daughter slowed you down, being cheeky🤪 But this makes me want to try the recipe. Very good! My husband and I can’t tolerate spice because the heat creates literal pain in our mouths. BUT I have found that I can use just enough curry in the food, to get the flavor without enough heat to cause pain. And we love it. This will take me longer than 10 minutes, but probably less than 30. And I love that you can vary the ingredients as you wish, kind of like a “formula” more than a recipe. Now I want to find more of your “ten minute” videos!
Simple foods cooked well is still a missed skill that everyone should embrace. Gordon makes the prep and cooking easy. As a cook, it’s awesome to see Chefs help embrace simple but flavorful food. Even as a wealthy Chef, he continues to embrace many communities to get fired up with cooking fresh. It’s inspiring.
Gordons confidence and stress make him what he is. Some people get to know how much they can take, how to say stop, when to stop and how to work with it.
He has tons of experience and he has everything almost fully prepped (plus a LARGE kitchen space whereas mine is dingy, about the size of a community college desk). I'm not really good at cooking meat, but overall cooking time for me took 15 minutes. I needed about 7 minutes to shred my ingredients and about 5 minutes to make the dough) I also made the dough beforehand (it was the first thing I did). My biggest issue was the lack of kitchen space (my counter is basically non existent) so I had to pick up and leave stuff on the floor, had to be more careful. It was good, but I didn't really like the chicken breast. Next time I'll use dark meat.
Made this tonight. Takes about 20 minutes preparation and 10 to 15 minutes to cook. Makes 4 generous portions and is amazing, as good as any curry I have had in a classy Asian restaurant.
I agree, but, since he's a chef, should we assume he's actually not wrong in saying it's "a little"? What exactly quantifies how much oil is a lot or too little?
Watching him cook at his home has dawned upon me that Mr Gordon Ramsay is actually a very polite and loving person. I have not watched too many of his TV shows. But his tantrums on his shows could for a) TV showmanship and that he can get away with swearing etc, and b) that he is so passionate and caring about cooking that anything below acceptable standards upsets him and finally boils him up. I really like Mr Gordon Ramsay.
I love when his kid is all, "Daaaad, you burned it." Or "Pan down on whot." "Daaaad, you're always over 10 minutes.", "That's not how Mum does it." I really love this series. He loves his kids and they clearly love him. He's a good sport for their teasing. And man, I wanna be his neighbor. I need a world class chef to bring me his demo meals and cast offs. 💕💜
Ramsay has evolved beyond the Michelin star, cooking Asian cuisines like this. Of course it ain't perfect but I gotta applaud his breadth of cookery knowledge and willingness to explore new cuisines.
i made this tonight .. very nice . but added garlic i didn't see you use any .. plus turmeric root grated along with the ginger . it will certainly be added to my curries when i buy squash ..
This recipe is fire! I used it last night and it was the best tasting curry chicken I've made. The grated red onion, butternut squash, and coconut milk made a lovely texture and taste with the red curry I used. You gotta try it! Top notch! Thanks chef Ramsey for sharing!
He’s really critical of frozen meat because it definitely brings the quality down. Vegetables aren’t necessary bad frozen, and with peas it would be a pain to prep them all the time.
I love how this is about cooking curry but then we see some happy Gordon family time, always nice to see his nice side when he's not slaughtering kitchen heretics with his words
Ramsey uses the terms curry powder and garam masala interchangeably but these are two very different mixtures: Garam Masala means hot spices in Urdu and other Muslim languages whereas curry powder is a concoction originally for Western kitchens not needing heat
coconut milk curry is probably the best thing I learned from my ex. Asia markets sell curry paste. To my experience much better than curry powder. But be careful - they are often very spicy. Bit of oil in a pan, just the paste in first (a tea spoon per person), spread it out and roast it a little bit first. Get the moisture out of the paste, then put the coconut milk in. 2 tea spoons of paste for half a liter of coconut milk works for me. Let boil up, reduce heat and put in whatever vegetables you want with your curry. They all have different cooking times. I would avoid cooking the curry for more than 10 minutes, because the water from the milk separates from the oily parts and you lose a lot of nice taste. This literally works with almost any kind of meat. I made swedish köttbullar as a thai curry today and it tastes amazing.
The best thing about these videos is that the ingredients aren’t all chopped and processed before he starts. He’s actually chopping and grating while things are cooking like I do.
After you’ve seen the way he interacts with his family at home, it’s hard to believe he’s the same guy who has cursed out people in his professional world. I think that is more of an act. He really seems like a genuinely lovely man.
I'm a loving caring mom and wife but when we have guests (like 20 people) and my food is not ready yet I become completely pain in the ass (I'm working on my attitude) some times kitchen can make people angry, He is a pro and when his staff screw up he gets mad, I totally understand him

It’s inspiring.
gordon just throws the leftover salt on the floor 😂
Mom will sweep it up.
Lmfao
Salt absorbs liquids and moisture, could help keep the floor clean and dry.
I usually throw it over my shoulder...Salt for the devil's eye.
The way Gordon moves around his kitchen makes me think I am moving too slow
Gordons confidence and stress make him what he is.
Some people get to know how much they can take, how to say stop, when to stop and how to work with it.
He has tons of experience and he has everything almost fully prepped (plus a LARGE kitchen space whereas mine is dingy, about the size of a community college desk).
I'm not really good at cooking meat, but overall cooking time for me took 15 minutes. I needed about 7 minutes to shred my ingredients and about 5 minutes to make the dough)
I also made the dough beforehand (it was the first thing I did).
My biggest issue was the lack of kitchen space (my counter is basically non existent) so I had to pick up and leave stuff on the floor, had to be more careful.
It was good, but I didn't really like the chicken breast. Next time I'll use dark meat.
My kitchen is tiny and people like to come in and stand in my way when I’m cooking
The way he moves while cooking is how I prepare my meal when I'm hungry lol.
I tried moving like that, got dizzy…. Maybe he helped me discover something badly wrong with me, I’ll go doctor and figure it out
His son looks just like him. Not only in physical features, but in his face expression. His frown killed me🤣
Made this tonight. Takes about 20 minutes preparation and 10 to 15 minutes to cook. Makes 4 generous portions and is amazing, as good as any curry I have had in a classy Asian restaurant.
I'm thrilled someone finally told him that he's not using just a "little" oil.

Shout out to Ramsay Jr. Starting off with one crease on his forehead like his old man. 😂

Ramsay has evolved beyond the Michelin star, cooking Asian cuisines like this. Of course it ain't perfect but I gotta applaud his breadth of cookery knowledge and willingness to explore new cuisines.
This is not how we cook "curry" in India, but still, if it tastes good, who cares.

This recipe is fire! I used it last night and it was the best tasting curry chicken I've made. The grated red onion, butternut squash, and coconut milk made a lovely texture and taste with the red curry I used. You gotta try it! Top notch! Thanks chef Ramsey for sharing!
"Frozen peas bring freshness to the curry" I never thought I would ever hear him say those words...
"It's fresh frozen"
If it's not in season frozrn is more fresh compared to the 'fresh'.
(Flash frozen)
He’s really critical of frozen meat because it definitely brings the quality down. Vegetables aren’t necessary bad frozen, and with peas it would be a pain to prep them all the time.
I think it’s kinda funny because he literally shit on a chef on kitchen nightmares because he said “fresh frozen”
@@logangrady1720 that's because the dish is fresh but the frozen, not like the fresh frozen stuff.

It is an act. But you can see he gets frustrated at times when getting meals out. He has high standards
From what I've seen his kids, unlike so many people on his TV shows, do what they're told, the way they're told.
I'm a loving caring mom and wife but when we have guests (like 20 people) and my food is not ready yet I become completely pain in the ass (I'm working on my attitude) some times kitchen can make people angry, He is a pro and when his staff screw up he gets mad, I totally understand him
