Greetings my #GothMoths
Okay seriously, this is going to be a ride Gothies!
+++
My name is Nat and I am a gothic operatic singer, actor and voice artist based in the heart of Kent, England. Music has always played an important part in my life as a musician and I love to use my platform on UA-cam to share it in my music reactions.
I work on the basis of a reaction should be just that, you don't get another crack at it! What you see from me is the real deal. I don't pre-screen anything I see or work from tight scripts. I'm completely open, emotive and sensitive with my audience.

Devin Townsend: *breathes*
Nat: ok, I need to pause right there
Having a depression on and off last couple of years and years and years... This song made me feel, ... I don't know. Invincible again? I played this in my car last week, saw the sun behind a big cloud so you could see it's rays and I sang OUT LOUD with the windows open. It. Felt. Great.
Nope.... not from Disney, nah. Not at all. It's been said it's Disneyesque, but it is an original piece from his most recent album. I've listened now to almost all his stuff, and own as much, purely as a result of doing as you do - a reaction channel. Had I not started I'd never have heard of Devin - now has become the most important musical touch point in my life. If not as a reaction, please listen to The Death Of Music live at the Royal Albert Hall - it will leave you in pieces. Keep it going fella!
A wild Jim has appeared. Doing music reactions before it was cool. But you know it's best experienced as a three piece with Funeral and Bastard too! Love ya Jim.
The most ridiculous part is that he's been doing this for almost 30 years with little or no vocal training. This is a guy who said "I’ve never been a fan of singing, I prefer playing guitar, but when I was younger every singer I worked with was a douchebag so I thought I’d just handle it.” And this: "Singing is also a nightmare for me... I never wanted to be a singer and still don't particularly want to be a singer. It's one of those things where, after a while, when you realize you've got a vision and have a passion to say something that is emotionally very significant to you, it has to be right. It has to be a certain thing. Over the years, I've developed the capacity to make my voice do what I want it to do in ways that I can't explain to other singers or get other people to do. I try to involve different women to help me with the parts, because it's something I can't physically do, the female side of the vocal spectrum. But, man, it's like pulling teeth, the singing thing."
If this is true, it's pretty funny, considering his very first appearance on any sort of record was as a vocalist. His voice was the only reason Steve Vai picked him up and jumpstarted his career
It's truly amazing to see another human being that is a more gifted than 99.9% of ALL humanity (Living, of course lol) and him seemingly struggle (like us normies) with what to do with.
Fasciniating man. Gorgeous music. My goodness.
As people have already said not from Disney but just known as his Disney song. He has fun with it live, usually changes in to a tutu and very often with a stage covered in soft toys. Watch the live from Houston one, its fancam but the sounds ok.
Hey Nat! Glad you enjoyed this :) It's not a from a Disney film, it's just his take on a disney-ish musical piece. So it's a Devin original, just quite a different style of music than he usually does :)
You might enjoy the official video from the record label. It's a cartoon for which the song provides the soundtrack. Thanks for an interesting and engaging reaction to the song.
It is not from Disney - more of a Disney-esque style or pastiche thereof. He has said that he has a wide range of musical and stylistic influences.
Regarding the Michael Crawford take, Phantom of the Opera is one of Devin's favorites and he has a song that directly references the show - "Christeen," from the album "Infinity."

I never knew that. Now I'm off to check out the song! Thank you, sir.
Thanks for reacting to this special song. Made my day.
hope you watched all of his quarantine concerts... if not .. they are a must watch... great job. tc n be safe
"Sprits Will Collide" is his Enya inspired metal song.
"That didn't happen..."
*rewinds*
"It did, it did happen..."
Me: Snorts coffee out of my nose
Roy Orbison, that's as close as I'm hearing when he sings "why run away" at 4:45
Cool comparison. Now that you've mentioned it I can't NOT hear it :)
I would absolutely die if Devin played The Phantom. He's got the acting chops for it too. I do love that compliment of comparison to Michael Crawford. :)
At 11:00 He tells us to "do the dissonant line", because he doesn't want to do it. xD
You pause these videos every minute and I love that tbh. Watching someone with Genuine passion is inspiring!
I subscribed today and was shocked you didnt have millions.
I love that song as well. Another layer of Hevy Devy.
just a home town theatre guy, but i think he has a michael crawford sound [phantom of the opera] what the F do i know . huge fan TENOR keep it coming.
Devin is insanely talented, not just vocally.
for goths sake man, you need to react to his 'death of music' live at Plovdiv (or RAH version) - its gothic, think burn by the cure slowed to funeral pace and showcases some of his best vocals. Get on it!!
Devin Townsend....the Danny Elfman of metal.
Yes 🖤. I've been saying he'd be a perfect Jack.
Yes, but no. Danny Elfman is the Danny Elfman of metal. Surprisingly enough.
It is the second reaction I see on your channel and I thought that only your appearance was a kind of disguise but I see that it is constant I remember the young scissorhands.
By the way wonderful your way of reacting pure emotion. A new subscriber greets you from Bogota
CHEERS , EXCUSE MY ENGLISH
Were Devin a foot taller, I’d be convinced he is Puddles the clown.
Devin's right ear is kinda small and goofy looking too, cuz I thought the same thing...
I love you Nat. You give off such a good vibe.
While Devin was not a fan of musicals he has as said in past interviews his harmonies were influenced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Trevor Jones (in fact "Skeksis" a song written by his previous band Strapping Young Lad features a passage from the Dark Crystal Overture.)

He loves you!
The bit you were stumped at made me think of Music of the Night. Definitely
Tuesday greetings, Nat. Have you seen any other of Devy's quarantine stuff? I haven't seen a lot because of my current obsession, but what I have watched has been great (he's really 'growing' on me). :) Gonna request Avatar again (and Heilung & Civil Wars, lol)... Johannes (singer), in more than 1 interview I've watched lately has mentioned Devy as someone he/they really like & look up to. In 1 interview, he was talking about how Devin opened for them not so long ago & said how excited he was about that & didn't know _how_ it came to be... then said it hit him that that meant they had to go _after_ him (and the ensuing panic, lol)! :)
Everytime I listen to this song, his voice gives me Meatloaf vibes
you are funny, I like that. liked n subbed.
I‘m reminded to Titanic as well Wehen I hear this song. Trank you for not being the only one :)
That person who called it a Disney song is incorrect-I’ve seen them say that comment on a couple other videos. “Why” is from his latest album (2019) “Empath”
Highly recommend the acoustic live version.
Not to bad for a heavy metal "screamer" that he can go from operatic tone to heavy metal fry screams at the "flip of a switch" still blows me away.
He does a song from Les Mis. Yes it's true.
Love the Michael Crawford reference. I've always said devin should redo phantom of the opera
What in the woooorld did I just watch? ;)
I also get some Mario Lanza vibes from this side of Devin. Really old-school reference...
I know exactly what you mean about the "bird taking off".
He sounds like Roy Orbison, I think :)
Thank you so much Nat. Your thoughtful reaction was just great He wrote a full-on show tune here that is just fantastic and showcases another side of his magnificent voice. How can I request the song with his best vocal performance ever? It's The Death Of Music live from Royal Albert Hall ua-cam.com/video/AnDfqYlSzNs/v-deo.html It would mean a lot to me - let me know if I use Patreon for the request
Watch the animated video for this song too: ua-cam.com/video/fT-uWOVP5q0/v-deo.html
rock
Would you rate him as i do as one of the best male singers atm?
Here's what will make you sick. Back in the early '90s Devin was singing for Steve Vai, and they sent him along to a vocal doctor about his voice. The Doctor told Devin that if he continued to sing the way he did he would permanently damage his voice within two years.
25 years later his voice is stronger than ever.
Danny Elfman. He sounds like Danny Elfman.
A year later and I still maintain that he sounds like Danny Elfman.
Disney.... Hahahahahah. Noooo.
Deadhead at the Royal Albert Hall next.
I understand that it is necessary to give an analysis and reaction, but they are Too many interruptions
Devin Townsend has never had a singing lesson in his life.
Back when he was 19 and singing for Steve Vai they sent him to a voice coach who told him that if he kept singing the way he did he would lose his voice within a year.
That was 28 years ago, and his voice is now stronger than ever.
Nat,
Don't take this the wrong way please but just a little advice from a friend & supporter,
I find it hard to follow a reaction that is stopped way too early & far too often.
(I don't feel that 6 seconds & 1 word into the song warrants a pause & comment, the video just feels so disjointed when that's done.)
(I'm still a Goth Moth, just bleating on a bit though, sorry.)
Btw, You have a cute laugh!
Late to the party as far as comments go, sounds like Elvis in his fat days
Hi NAT what I like about your channel is that you show music hard to find or different artist and that is very entertaining and like I said before, you should react to CAIFANES that is a Rock band and you can get lost of subscribers from spanic counties, Cheers from Cancun
not that far Elvis is bad, just something about the tone from that time period, side note I cant sing so could be wrong
It shouldnt take 5 fucking minutes to get to the tede.
Not bad for a guy who hates singing 🤔😳
Don’t mind all the pausing but it’d be cool if it didn’t take you ten years to get a sentence out 😂
Not my thing. 😶🙏🏼
