I work along side a glass business, and I can ensure you that this would be worth the investment. New cars have to have the cameras on the windshield calibrated , after a windshield is replaced. It's super expensive, this is probably alot cheaper, especially if your insurance doesn't cover everything
Can honestly say that this is one thing I haven’t ever done. Haven’t really even thought much about doing. Thanks for introducing me to something new bru.
Didn’t know this was even possible. I can see some clear (no pun intended) benefits for some windshield shapes that are more prone to rock chips and cracks. I had a 3rd gen MR-2 years ago where even the smallest rock was guaranteed to cause a chip in the windscreen. Needed repairs every 1 to 2 months and a new windshield every 18 months on average. This would have been great.
Pretty sure it’s a new product. I first saw this product on a video a few months ago from Chicago Auto Pros on a Tesla. On those cars with a windshield that’s half the roof, which I can imagine is way way more expensive than just a typical windshield replacement (and typical windshield replacements are EXPENSIVE), it cheap insurance.
I was anxious during the entire video. Very much concerned that the installer’s tools belt would scratch the paint :). I guess the PPF that was previously installed helped.
As someone who lives in Canada, in a city that salts and gravels the roads religiously, a new windshield every 2 years with rock chip fillings done constantly it is basically a tax for living here. I've tried other brands of "windshield clear bra" and from my experience while the protector keeps my windshield intact, the constant peppering from small stones created micropits in the film that couldn't be fixed with a heat gun. When glass gets hit by tiny rocks usually the hardness of the glass means there isn't too much of a mark, with the film as it is softer even smaller stones would leave marks and after 1 winter the windshield had a slight haze to it. Heating the film would remove a small percentage but would still be annoying, and in bright direct sunlight it's almost like slightly frosted glass making it a safety hazard IMO. With my installer charging $650 for the film install and a new windshield costing me only $1200 it actually became more economical, and in my eyes safer, to just get a new windshield every 2 years instead of new film every year.
Nice video, although it would have been nice to get closer shots of the finished product. What about pricing? How much would it cost to cover an average windshield? Thanks
i would love to take the Exoshield install class which would definitely be worth the investment from a business standpoint but i think my nerves would be shot when it comes to using a heat gun on the windshield.
Please please please find a way to make the exo shield to used as tinted removable inserts for front driver passenger windows where window tinting is prohibited.
So interesting and so many questions… How about putting on older glass with some scratches? Fills or needs polished surface? Can you put coating on it? Applying on older car with seal covering glass requires tucking it under rubber or to edge? Can/should be applied on sides/rear? I guess I need to check their website. Super interesting. Thanks for video.
Anything you can see now, you'll see after Exo. You can put it on any glass, but it's expensive and hopefully you aren't scratching/rock chipping the side and rear windows.
@@utbigpapa I have older vehicle where I noticed vertical marks from sand/dust laying at the seal at side windows. Rear of the car has wiper blade that naturally gathers more dust that again is being “rubbed” on the glass.
I could be wrong, but there's no way this could be for a daily driver right? 1 year of wiper abrasion would scratch this stuff. If you only drive it occasionally (not in the rain) I can see some benefit.
Thanks for doing this video Larry, I actually was going to message you on your thoughts about this product. Are you or have you already done it on the 993? I'm thinking about doing it on the corrado!
If your windshield costs thousands of dollars to replace, like Larry’s Taycan, I’d says ExoShield, or similar is worth it. However, for most people, I think coatings like Supra Clear Armor is way more cost effective. It only costs $60 CAD here, and all of the cars that I have/had this coating on, never had one crack - chips yes, but the chips never cracked; all I had to do was repaired the chips.
Full on guess here: it compromises the light refraction of the paint but because you're not looking through it, it's not as noticeable. Looking at bare paint vs PPF, you can often spot the difference. Ever look at frosted glass and then apply water? I would guess the softness of PPF against the softness of paint allows for the frosted aspect of PPF to disappear.
i got my windshield replaced.... it whistles like crazy now... They changed it 5 times... they cannot get rid of it. I'll have to sell the car now, it's undrivable..... so annoying
@ammonyc & Exoshield by Alchemy 1: If Exoshield is so much more transparent than a clear bra, why not use Exoshield on the paint too? $$$? 2: Since Larry put 70% tint on the windshield inside, will this reflect enough heat back out (at the exoshield) to compromise the adhesion? 3: Any concerns about exoshield impeding First Responders in getting that windshield out in the event of a rescue operation?
Its a historical term. The original "clear" PPF was originally just around the front bumper of the car as an advancement on those black "bras" that left tan-lines on the paint when you removed them. Now the PPF has been expanded to be installed on every inch of the vehicle.
Thanks for the feature Larry! We're proud to be protecting your Taycan 🎉🛡
Do you install ExoShield in Weschester N.Y.if so can you contact me
Awesome totally something id have driving a Half a million down the road

I was just talking about Exoshield last weekend. this is going to be the next big thing.

This is will be perfect for enjoying show cars

Hey Larry, At the very end, what did you mean by 2 years of piece of mind? Does the film only last 2 years?
Sure wish I knew about this when I first got my 4Runner. I swear it's a rock magnet here in the PNW.

What about windshield calibration for the sensors and cameras? That's where the real cost lies.

Outro song?

Any UV protection? (Other than from the inside tint).
Amazing!!
Would love to know the total cost (including labor) and the benefits of the exo shield
Just two years?

H3 Hummers would benefit highly from this
Too excited & couldn’t sleep or ya must be working hard!! Look a little tired Larry!

I'm thinking about doing it on the corrado!
I’m sure the next thing Larry is going to cost the film in Reflex so the wipers don’t need to be used as much. ;)
Does prevent rocks
Should’ve gotten a windshield from the junk yard to do a demo on. I’m really curious is this works
In the UK almost all car insurance have window cover as standard pay between 70-90£ and they'll fit a new one
in the us it is free with all insurance, problem is replacement windshields often are not calibrated
Amazing stuff. 👍 What’s the cost?
If this was legal in Australia i would definitely get it
I'm used to seeing window tint that I feels weird since this is applied on the outside 🤣🤣

Who was the installer?
i can feel the anxiety larry feel with the glass cleaning method
If clear bra isn't clear, how does it not compromise the quality of the colour underneath?

that rock chip on the front windshield on a new car would anger me so much haha

They mentioned why in the video. You cannot stretch exoshield.
I’m sure if a razor can cut it, a K12 or glass saw could cut it.
Would've been helpful after my 2nd crack windshield in my new Tacoma lol
I'm on a cross-country mission to educated people on the fact that cars don't have breasts and therefore would never need a bra.
If all else fails plexi glass it
Awesome trick, but obviously not for mere mortals with average salary 😊
:)
1st
What exactly is wrong with somebody who buys a Cross Turismo and lowers it. Just buy a freaking Sport Turismo
Argh!!!! A BRA is something a woman wears not what you protect a car with! It’s PPF for gods sake!!!!!!
