Absolutely love the professionalism on this flight deck. Awesome checklist usage and crew coordination. You guys could show a lot of people how it's done!
Great career advice. We all imagine a linear career progression, but often it’s is pretty disjointed and nonlinear. Taking advantage of all forms of expertise brings benefits. (As an example, I know a CFII who got blocked from the airlines just as was ATP qualified - COVID shut down all the airline opportunities - and he decided he just wanted to spend more time around jets. So he worked in Napa at an FBO simply marshaling planes, driving the fuel truck, changing blue water, etc. But he flagged any issues he saw to the pilots and owners. Boom - during one of those chats he got invited to fly with them. He is now type rated. True story. 👍)
I worked in IT at Gulfstream Aerospace Technologies in Bethany, OK in the mid to late 90s. Always good to watch a video of an aircraft I may have had a part of. Thanks, Owen.
@@Steve-cu1ye Nope. Worked at GAT from 1998-2002. Had Savannah not closed the Bethany plant, I could have worked there until retirement I enjoyed it so much.
Current tower controller here. It’s a breathe of fresh air to hear two pilots in the same plane with as much chemistry and experience as the pilots in this vid. We deal with predominantly regional jets and air taxis and our ga jet traffic is low at around 10%. I got routed to this video after watching you and your buddies buy a Mustang and fly it home. Watching you left seat a Citation and then right seat a G4 was friggin amazing. I feel all these new “airline pilots” don’t have the passion or chemistry to fly anywhere as smooth as you and the two co-pilots I’ve watched you fly with. It’s the tiniest things that start the snowball. Attention to detail and enthusiasm will allow you to do whatever you want for as long as you want.
Owen, an ol retired. Spent lots of time in cockpits, and totally loved it. The Jet Gulfstream were new. Flew the II & III. Absolute wonderful AC. Had a BA Captain in my cockpit , that was the initial trainer of the supersonic for them, and stated the G III quite the performer. It sure is, and ours were early era. A real treat for you.😊. I enjoy you videos!! No matter what, you’re blessed to be there. Always “ humble”….😊
Your guys are hustlers, love it, got you to where you are now, and you fully deserve it. Great futures for you gentlemen, thanks for letting us ride along.
Ha! I love it - "You just had to say something" was like reading my mind - I'm thinking "It's not over until the chocks are in place and engines spooling down." Great video!
Thanks for sharing this. Don’t see too many Gulfstream videos like this. For reference, flying the Gulfstream doesn’t appear to be too much different than an airliner at all. I’m a dispatcher on the 737 and 787. Looked pretty similar overall to a 737. The 787 is just a whole different beast, altogether.
Hey Owen! So interesting how Brad's story is pretty much exactly your story. You put yourself out there, said yes to every job, started out washing airplanes, and networked your butt off. To quote a country song, 'You got it honest.' It stood out to me when you both 'mentioned 5yrs ago'. So inspiring! As for having 50kts on the falcon my best guess is it was actually a falcon...as in the bird :) Great video, great edit...thank you so very much for all you're doing to show it's all possible.
Owen, I've been Instagram friends with you for a long time now and I have to say this is one of my favorite videos! So much G-IV footage, outstanding editing, and very cool music! Thank you for continuing to make and share your adventures! This "GulfstreamGuy" loves what you are doing!
That was extremely good advice, sometimes bridges need to be burned but if it’s possible maintain those relationships. It doesn’t cost you a thing and never know when that relationship may have a very positive impact on you or allow you to have an impact on someone else.
I flew in the US Navy for 16 years. We flew all over the world under all kinds of conditions. I flew in Helo's doing what you are doing at first, then I flew 4 engine turbo props. You may have heard of the P-3 Orion. At the time it was the fastest prop plane in the US. 405 knots. The Russian Bear was faster. It was challenging and most of all it was fun. I miss the flying, but not the Navy. Watching you makes me want to get back into it. Like your videos.
That's an awesome plane. I live near Portland, Oregon. That is also where the Nike headquarters is located. I'm a truck driver and drive by the glass enclosed hanger where Nike keeps their three Gulfstream five's. I call the hanger the "glass display case." I can imagine if I had nearly one quarter of a billion dollars to drop on some wings, I would proudly display them too. Great video. Thank you for sharing, and safe journeys.
Damn that cold bro, if I had a choice to fly anything would be that HONDA JET loves that plane. Right now I can only sit back and watch you guys do your thing and enjoy every moment. Thanks guys
My uncle use to fly for Air Malawi and Air Botswana. I admire him for his lifestyle and his ability to fly those huge passenger planes. I wish my interest was strong at your age instead of 49. I imagine I’m to old to fly a gulf stream or not?
Do you let the people in the back know when you're going into clouds and possible turbulence? Setting up front where you can see what's going on is much different than setting in the back where you have no clue what's going on 🤔. I'm sure you do,just asking? 🙂
Great video. Great example of how to use CRM and proper, timely decision making while being task saturated. You are living my dream 😍! I know Gulfstream’s inside and out from Maintenance POV as an A&P and hope to eventually fly them before I get too old. Clock is ticking but at least I have my PPL. We both work in the same world and I live in the PNW, surprised we have not met. 🤔
Best video ever Owen. Love to watch you in the cockpit.! You and Brad make a great team. Keep the videos coming my friend. I never get tired of watching your flights.
Not to name drop, but John Moores the former owner of the Padres had a G4. Got invited to fly on it to Cabo and back. Super fun. More fun than the flight was parking our cars on the Tarmac and walking right on and leaving 5 min later. No clearing customs there or back really. Cars washed and vacuumed upon our return.
You've come a long way since tagging along in Matt's Bonanza. I guessed you must be good when he let you reposition it solo one day. Congrats on the 501 also.
Great video. A few years ago I used to fly a GIV-SP based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Checked my initial FAA ATP together with the type rating initial check-ride in SAV, then flew the aircraft for a little less than two years (plane was eventually sold). It was fun, I was sorry when the contract ended...😎🖖
It's 71 in Nassau n I'm cold. Hearing the temperature being -1 gave me anxiety 😂no joke. Also the door of the aircraft was open so long. The only thing I could think of in the beginning is when will the heaters fire up
The CRM displayed is pretty cool to me. How is it switching from different captains as far as CRM is concerned in the 91/135 world? Looks like you wprk really well with everybody you fly with.
Being In commercial real estate development, I understand the strategy to take any business that makes sense. My buddy’s husband flew for the Dole family for many years which landed him the latest position in corporate aviation.
