Good video. It's amazing how many people own a gun and 1 partial box of ammo. I'm with you on picking a few to stock. Also having multiple platforms that use the same ammo is a bonus. There's a reason that 44WCF (44-40) was so popular back in the day. You only needed to stock one ammo for rifle & handgun.
I prefer stockpiling calibers as you recommend but divide into blister packs containing a loadout of each caliber and magazines for same. When evacuating for a hurricane, I grabbed what I could, knowing that I could feed my primary weapons. I keep my stockpile divided up and in different locations lest I be burglarized.
One .50 cal can will store 300 .308 in 20 round box or 1000 5.56 in 50 round box or 1000 9mm in 50 round box or 2500 .22 LR in 100 round containers (CCI plastic) I built a wooden shelving unit that houses 35 cans (5 shelves of 7 cans) for my shtf ammo which i started gathering quite a few years ago. 1500 or 5 cans .308 (900 168 gr hpbt/600 147 gr ball) 15000 or 15 cans 5.56 62 gr ball. 5000 or 5 cans of 9mm (3000 124 gr XTP/2000 124 gr ball). 25000 or 10 cans of .22 lr (5000 CCI 32 gr HP Stingers/20000 CCI 36 gr HP). ((46500 for those that count)) Each can also has a desicant pack in it. My training/hunting/range/practice ammo and ammo in other calibers is also stored on shelves but not in ammo cans. Some is stored in mags others in original box and some in mtm 100 count boxes. Do not forget water food medical and training. One other thing .. 1k or 9mm or 556 or a full 3.5 gal waterbrick is around 25 lbs .. in other words liftable by most .. that is something to consider as well. I agree with you 100% I stockpile the exact same as you with one addition which is 7.62X39, I have smaller amounts of 38/357, 44 magnum, 45acp and 3006. In a SHTF situation I will be armed with an ar or ak and a 9mm period.
Problem with stockpiling loose ammo in ammo can is you get all kinds of pressure/velocity/accuracy in one can even if you put the same brand and type together. As long as they are from different lot number, your bullet hole will be all over the place. Did that one time the seller sent me one 20 round box from a completely different lot and after I zeroed my rifle, that one box of ammo shoots high
It's a bit harder for me since money is tight, so I only buy ammo in bulk when its REALLY cheap. I just recently picked up 1,000 rounds of 9mm for $260. Now I need to save up so when I see another good deal I can buy again.
@@GunActivities365 My local gun store. They have a listing on thier website for Hornady 9mm for $367 for 2,500 rounds. Should I just go ahead and buy it?
While you have the right to buy as many guns in different calibers as you like, I fail to see why anyone needs so many different calibers. I understand a shotgun, .22lr, a pistol, hunting rifle and ar. I don't get why you would need .22lr,.380, 9mm, 10mm,.40, 45, 223/556, 308 you get the point. Unless you have buckets full of money, I find it better to have a few calibers and have lots of it, than to have a bunch of calibers and have little of it.
Your breathing the free air of America man. You can have 35 shirts and your wife can have 35 pairs of shoes-I would say this is normal for most gun loving Americans💥
Blueknight1960….. why would anyone need a bucket full of money unless you only keep one box of ammo around and all of your friends were invited to shoot all 40 of your guns and YOU supplied 100 rounds of ammo for each gun at the target shoot?
I keep all of my stuff in all of their original boxes to help me keep an accurate inventory of specific brands/types of shot. I agree it’s better to have 1000+ rounds of 4-5 ammo types (which gives you plenty of versatility) versus 300 rounds of 12 different types.
I haven't gotten into any kind of stockpiling habit yet. I know I probably should. But it wouldn't take me long to pop out a bunch in a dozen different calibers being I reload and cast for each caliber. I do stockpile the components however. It's a fantastic hobby with all kinds of benefits!
Buy one box to shoot and one to hoard. After a year of shooting every other weekend, you have 26 boxes of ammo in your stockpile. After 5 years, you have a legit stockpile.
What if you have to leave your house and you have 10min to get out. How much of that ammo do you think you'll be able to take with you?I have quite a bit stored but,, I plan on collecting guns and ammo as I move. You couldn't possibly transport 100.000 rds.
I have 200 Self Defense rounds made up, and 500 hunting rounds made up. I also have 500 empty case ready to be made up as I go for practice and plinking. I wait till I am ready to play before I make them up, and only enough to get though a play session. This way just in case I want to change up bullets or try a new powder I have the empty brass ready to get after it. I am also in the process of searching through 12 reloading manuals in order to find recipes that I might would like to try out. So I do not want to over buy one type of powder or bullets. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Plus, I am wanting to create a Wild-Cat Cartridge and want empty cases ready for the process of development. So, as long as I have enough loaded ammo to cover what may come up at a given time, I like having empty cases laying around at my disposal. So I only buy enough powder of a particular type to see what I think of the recipes at hand. And once I find say a favorite recipe I will then buy up a lot of the ingrediencies to last a long time. But I still will wait to load them up as I go, as I prefer spacing my reloading sessions out, a little here and a little there. All that said I also buy all the primers I can get my paws on, as I did with the cases, so that I'll have them stockpiled and ready to go for years to come.
I don't take ammo to the range in ziplock bags. That's not how I want to look being a gun guy. I either use mt mtm 4 can crate or I put all my diffent kind if ammo in 1 can and take that.
I hope it doesn't get back to how scare it was before and during the pandemic. If stores run out of ammunition then I will resort to getting from other sources I can't be without. I am not an expert by any means but all I have now is one 9MM gun and 2 10mm and one 762X39. I like how you got a bunch. I am going to try and save up to eventually have 4 ammo cans minimum of the caliber I carry and that will be for SHTF
I would not dump ammo out of its factory box into an ammo can. 1 lot numbers matter. No way of knowing if its a bad , poor performance or poor quality lot. 2 the weight of the loose ammo in the can .
this is something i made a point of cause i see videos that are hard set "STOCK ONLY THESE CALIBERS" and i commented on that like. Yea you should stockpile those, IF thats what YOU shoot and maybe if someone you know and trust also carries. I may not have a 308 but my buddy might so I'll stock that maybe, but I will only stock what I have access to otherwise. in my mind there isnt a point to stocking ammo for guns i dont have. thats just how i see it
I stock, ammo, reloading supplies. You can literally stock lee c press, hand primer, dies, measure, calipers, and dies, with 4 c clamps for emergency use, in one ammo can, and fit 10 thousand primers, projectiles and 10lb of powder in another larger can, not only for me, but for my kids and grandchildren
From the look of your ammo box bulging out on the sides they must be the cheap crappy Walmart kind and not the military surplus. Might as well have them in a paper bag. Looks like you really don't know what you're doing. You're also using 50 Cal boxes for 9 mm which is not logical if you want to haul that around you're going to have to get ones half that size and just double up. 🤦
Think about recalls and defective ammunition. You need to retain lot numbers. Keeping them in their boxes will come in handy in csse yours or others guns get blown up.
Never once had an issue with squib loads or overcharged rounds or anything like that. Ever. I'm not too concerned about it. But that's not a bad idea for people who have 100 boxes of ammo.... I'd need a whole ammo room if i kept everything in original packaging.
I dump it too for 9mm and 556. 308 i leave in boxes because of all the different kinds to identify. Reason I dump into cans besides storage space - I've taken some rifle and pistol classes over the years, guys getting ammo out of boxes reload mags really slow and leave garbage everywhere 😂 everyone waiting for those few (used to be me) and the experienced guys were grabbing like popcorn and then helping others when done.
Ruger Security 380 is a fantastic gun. Lightweight, easy to rack, while also being super soft and shooting. Great for popping off multiple shots quickly and accurately because the muzzle doesn't rise much at all.
I live in Florida and have kept my ammo in its original boxes inside ammo cans with moisture packets (from new clothing/sneaker purchases) haven’t had a single problem in 28 years. Not even a spot on any brass…
Good points. You can DIY moisture absorbtion packs using 000 steel wool in an open baggie. I also suggest getting reloading supplies, go to the local ranges to see what you can salvage. I use a cartridge conversion book, to see what brass can be converted. 30.06 can make a lot of other calibers, .40 S&W can produce .357 SIG. It can also be sold/traded for something you do want.
@jennifernichols9468 Sorry, 10mm to 357 sig increases case pressure due to thicker web at the base. If you use a straight walled bullet, the 40 case can be used. It gets a good grip on it, the case head spaces off the shoulder. I've run about 3 k of this.
Interesting that you bunch up for some (I.e. your 9mm can in front). Have thought of doing that but concerned it might be bad somehow. Is it always one single brand, or anything like that?
I put all the same grain weight in one. So like 115, 124, 147 in separate cans. Haven't been separating brands untill I've been noticing problems with winchester handgun ammunition lately.
Well, I have 2 of the calibers, 22lr, and 9mm, as far as a shotgun i have a 20 gauge. I dont have nearly what you have then again I've never run out because I dont have the chance to shoot as much as you. I have 3 22's, the one 9mm pistol and the 20 gauge. Contrary to popular belief even the smallest birdshot will devastate things inside 21 feet. I usually stick with the cheapest fmj for the 9, and cheapest bulk pack fr the 22. Honestly if I could keep only one firearm it would be my marlin model 60 loaded with thunderbolts
Just bought a bunch of ammo and noticed my older ammo stored in the garage wasn’t the best idea so cleared out some space in the house and started to sort by type 9mm, 40 and 10mm No rifles to my name yet
You always have to have different types of calibers because you never know when you will not have ammo for one caliber. I am a 45 guy 762×39 never shot 556×45 or 9mm but recently there was no 45 and no 762×39 so now I bought 556×45 rifle and 9mm pistol because ammo was plenty. If you don't have ammo you can not train 556×45 is a baby bullet compared to 762×39 but you can train with it. Not a fan of 9mm but very cheap so I can train with that so I am becoming a fan. Then need you shoot gun and your hunting rifle so when shoot gun shells on sale or my 308 on sale I by it. I have my 10mm and 357 for hiking and hunting so I stock as much as I can. I stock 22 because it is cheap so having a 22 ammo you can always hunt small game and always eat. Stock everything you can you never know when you will not have access to ammo and always have as many different rounds as you can. If you store multiple calibers you will always have ammo to train with.
Yes Sir, that's about what I'd would do and say except me 12 gauge trade in for 16 gauge as my best shots are wingmaster 870 16 gauge. And I know 16 is the odd man out know. But it's still out there and I save my hauls Incase have to make some up. Cut down 12 to make 16 if had to. But in my opinion 12 nice 20 not enough so it's obvious 16 is where its at. Next I would need 45 acp in there and believe it or not no ar lol not at moment. Son does. Brings me to third he got a little Taurus 357 wheeler. Ok catch later here someone at door
All the ammo in the country will do you little good without spare parts. Everything breaks, gets lost or stolen. Have plenty of parts for all of weapons and know how to repair them. 2 is 1. 1 is none.

Thanks for the ammo-porn! If you have “thousands and thousands” of rounds for all of your off-caliber weapons (the ones you’re not stockpiling), you’re either rich, bragging, or both. The most important piece of information is common knowledge: Don’t stockpile for every gun you own.

Except for ove water tested the Walmart ammo cans🤣🤣🤣
Do you just collect ammo or do you shoot as well? Because I know some people that collect ammo do not like to shoot because their stock is going down.
I would like your recommendation on what you think about the Ruger security 380 and the Taurus G2c 40sw...thanks
Get the th series for a 40, trust me
Ruger Security 380 is a fantastic gun. Lightweight, easy to rack, while also being super soft and shooting. Great for popping off multiple shots quickly and accurately because the muzzle doesn't rise much at all.
Why would you leave ammo you're planning on storing for long term in cardboard boxes? It's easy to absorb moisture even though you have silicate packs
I live in Florida and have kept my ammo in its original boxes inside ammo cans with moisture packets (from new clothing/sneaker purchases) haven’t had a single problem in 28 years. Not even a spot on any brass…
Stockpiling is good but training should also be a priority. So, do you ever shoot 9mm, 556, 12ga, and 22?
Yes!
I've heard that.
10mm can be cut and resized to .357 SIG NOT .40 S&W, its too short.
Would you recommend stashing some of it in a second location?
Yes depending where
Those cans got to be heavy.
Have you thought of saving the brass shell and loading your own bullets?
How long did it take you to get where you’re at now
Like 5 years, but what you see in the video isn't much of what I got
Smart man using silica gel
Just bought a bunch of ammo and noticed my older ammo stored in the garage wasn’t the best idea so cleared out some space in the house and started to sort by type
9mm, 40 and 10mm
No rifles to my name yet
7762x39 22 3006 270 12 gauge are my favorite😮
If BIG BROTHER monitors, You Tube you just told him whose home to raid first.
Lol 👍
I assume you buy online?, in store?, or both. May I ask what you think the site as the best price for a good bullet?
i only stock calibers i actually have guns for..... shtf happens i won't be bartering. lol that's just dumb because you won't be able to trust anyone
Where do you get your ammo cans?
Walmart or harber freight. Old mil Surp are way better but i hate how beat up they are.
House rules here are for every toy that comes in, 1k batteries for that toy before another toy.
Imagine the fireworks in that home fire
😂
Where you get your moisture pack from
Amazon.
There’s some kitty litter out there that is 100% silicon. Put it in a coffee filter and staple shut.
The litter should be blue crystals with no clay.
Can't beat a wingmaster!
I have two 16 gauge Browning Auto-5's I inherited.
Where to buy 38 Special ammo is my question. Not at inflated prices.
9mm,40 cal,5.56,380,308,12gauge
I see you have a can full of ballpoint, I assume you got a can of hollow point somewhere?
For shtf situations you won't be concerned about the box and lot number.
Agreed
All the ammo in the country will do you little good without spare parts. Everything breaks, gets lost or stolen. Have plenty of parts for all of weapons and know how to repair them. 2 is 1. 1 is none.
Agreed
Great point!!
No such thing as to much
I prefer to say more than enough!
9mm, 38/357 22 lr 5.56
No weird unobtainable calibers
How much ammo do you need?? Me: “yes”
God bless you sir
Very Nice 👍
👍
MESSAGE TO ALL STOCK PILERS! it will only take me one shot to claim your stash when shit hits the fan.thank you for saving my future ammo.
Lol goodluck with that😆😆😆
This is a normal "Craig" Comment...
@@GunActivities365 lol I speak the truth soon as someone knows you have a stock pile when shit hit the fan the whole town will be watching you.its best to keep quiet about your stash.and yes this is a normal comment from me thanks for noticing.
No need now. Stores are loader up.
Thanks for the ammo-porn! If you have “thousands and thousands” of rounds for all of your off-caliber weapons (the ones you’re not stockpiling), you’re either rich, bragging, or both. The most important piece of information is common knowledge: Don’t stockpile for every gun you own.
Neither Rich or bragging. It dosen't happen over night. It takes years for a normal guy like me...
@@GunActivities365 I believe you. My comment was largely motivated out of jealousy. I’ve only accumulated 1-2K for each of my (5) preferred calibers. Like so many investments, it’s important to start early. Thanks for the video, and the reminder.
Go ahead and broadcast to the world what you have!! Smdh
You can come get it🙂
Thats right show the feds what you have geez
You think they care?
🇦🇺😎👍🎄Nice🏁
Nice
Thanks
Lucky mericain
I think that's all the ammo you have.
Lol sure is
Why are you showing your stuff??? Fight the urge to show off your supplies. Could have made your point with one box each.
That's a 10th of what I have. Noone is showing off anything. If you watched the video you'd know that.
Stop trying to reassure us that you have more ammo.
It's people like you that like to talk crap🤷♂️ that's why I do it lol.
So you have what 100 k in ammo? Wow I wish lol
Bro said 250k rounds 😳
😂😂😂😂😂
You can only fire one gun at a time dude
Lol okay? And? You can only wear one pair of socks at a time, what's your point?
@@GunActivities365if you can’t figure that out on your own I’m not taking you to raise
Cool
No .45 or 10mm or .308 🤨
Got all of them, but don't Stockpile them haha
nothing useful in this video.....just babling on and on
Thanks for watching!
I say there will never be a time when You need all this ammo. Does this guy really believe he will be at some kind of secure tower or bunker and be able to stand against Explosive devices ... I think not.
It's not really for shtf. It's for the fact that maybe in 2030 we cab nolongwe buy ammo... I can still shoot and hunt and have a hobby.
chipsramek3868…. Have you been living in a cave or is it that you don’t see the pending ammo crisis as a threat to your self preservation, whether for defense or for hunting as long as you have a couple boxes of shells for your calibers in the closet?
It’s not about how much you’ll need at any one time. It’s about how much is going to be available in the near future and for how long the supply will last!
Keep putting back as much as possible 👍
That’s expensive
Do what you can afford. If you're okay with couple hundred rounds per caliber than do that. Do what works best for you
Why stockpile ammo? Someone give me a legitimate reason. I feel there are better things to spend money on as a prep
Ammo is food. Ammo is safety. Ammo is sex. Ammo is transportation. Ammo is water. Ammo is currency. Ammo is shelter. Ammo is supplies. Ammo is whatever you need when SHTF. Do you need any more legitimate reasons? Ammo is whatever I don't have, I'm going to get. Let me know what you are stockpiling.
Ammo is like money in the bank.
You must not shoot much
I don't shoot much? Lol okay...
@@GunActivities365 you got money then
@@justusbryant7366 just enough to pay the bills and fund the hobbies and save a little.
