After having used the ME-90 daily for over 6 months (teaching, tracking, rehearsing/gigging), it's apparent to me that Boss intended the user to have internal preamps on at *all times* when in conjunction with the OD/DS module. The fact that the 'Line/Gtr Amp' switch is only functional with a Preamp Model turned on speaks to this intention. Also...every single factory preset comes with a Preamp model turned on! On their own, all OD/DS tones are bright, fizzy, harsh, nigh unusable on their own...yet as soon as you click the "Natural" Preamp...boom! perfectly smooth, warm tone. Knowing this, I use the ME-90 in three primary ways: 1) As a preamp into the FX Return of an amplifier (switch set to Gtr. Amp) 2) As a preamp into an FRFR cab (switch set to Line) 3) As a strictly time/modulation focused MFX 'board' into my tube amp's FX loop, getting all my gain staging & channel switching from the amp itself

I was having no luck getting a good drive tone with this ME90. Finally I discovered that turning OFF amp models and running straight into a clean dry amp (with good Celestion speaker) sounds incredibly good. The screamer, overdrive, and Centaur drives sound awesome this way and rhe effects are stellar!!
@RajorshiBhattacharyya interestingly, I have it set on "line" and that seems to sound good. I would think "guitar amp" setting would be better.. but not in this case.
Dave, are you saying turn off the 'Preamp' section, I see a red light at the top of this section the section in the upper left corner? How do you turn it off? And you're probably saying select the line over amp via the line/amp switch on the back panel? I'm ordering this tonight. I doubt there are good or excellent factory presets for Classic Rock rhythms and leads, is that they case, that would be pretty typical.
To remove that annoying hairy fizziness simply go into you parametric eq and slowly cut the very highest frequencies down a little at a time. You will be shocked at the difference.
The ME 90 doesn’t have a parametric EQ, although I agree that using one would definitely help. My goal here is to improve the overall sound for zero cost, but if you do have a cheap EQ pedal lying around, running it in through the effects loop makes a huge difference.
@@bikersoncall boss tone studio,I was incorrect,I was thinking of my katana amp using bts, apparently you don’t have that option when using the me90 Update: Using a Bluetooth adapter you can utilize BTS on tablet/iphone There is also an online file sharing site to download/upload presets you make and also others share
Keep in mind this switch only works with the ME-90 Preamps turned ON...which points to the fact that Boss reaaallly want you to use the internal preamps, regardless of the user's end purposes. 🤷♂
Good morning. I ask for help regarding the ME 90. Trying the delays: MODULATE, WARM, TAPE, ANALOG, STANDARD and also the one in the EQ/FX2 part, they are practically all the same and not even a stereo one. Is this the case or did they give me a defective pedal board? I've been using Boss pedals for a long time but never with this limit. Thank you and greetings.
Ill never part with my EVH 5153 combo, but since I do not play live anymore I have been attempting to go digital. My needs seem simple. Heavy, thick, 90s metal tone. I had a Kemper but sold it because I never used it for anything more than a guitar amp. Got the Katana Artist, despite its range of tones, it will not do metal the way I want. Same with the GX-100, but even worse. Then I tried the ME 90, and just more of the same, and yes- the IRs make all the difference. For me, the worst thing about the ME, is no amp relay. What is the point of the 4 cable method if your fx unit cannot change the amp channels with patch changes? I like the idea of running it 4 cable thru my amp so I have the ability to switch to the amps clean channel and use the the distortion stomps in the front end for different distortion levels, without tap dancing. I have a ToneX on the way hoping that might scratch my itch.
This unit came so close to matching everything I want except it sounds bad compared to others. This gives me hope I may try this. I wonder if they purposely made it not sound as good as the higher pices ones and you unlocked it
This is what is so very aggravating about these companies, they give us sht when they could give us great sounds and presets. The excuses that we need to deep edit a total blsht. Once I create a nice patch from any processor, it sounds great on any amp or guitar I have, just might need very minor eqing' but not critical.
@@LightwaySolutions That is a good question. So far I've worked out two decent patches with the ME90 , got it yesterday. I'm not ready to buy the GT1000 just yet.

Hey bro, awesome video. Indeed the IRs improved the total tone. Do you mind sharing the IRs please?
